I'm still hoping Amy Klobuchar will throw her hat in the ring. I'm delighted it will be commonplace to see women running for president from now on.

I hope Beto O'rourke doesn't run. He couldn't even beat Ted Cruz. It was close, but I think my dog could have beat Ted, so not real hopeful lol.

Amy Klobuchar's voice just calms me. I too hope she runs. I heard snippets from Kamala Harris Town Hall last night. I liked what I heard. I will have to make a point of listening more often to her. She does have an infectoius laugh. I have to admit, I'm over Elizabeth Warren. I think she would be better served to stay in the Senate. Same for Bernie. I have mixed feelings about Joe Biden. I like Joe, but, it just seems to be the same old same old. Sigh, gonna be a long couple years till election day 2020.

DH asked if I wanted to go outside & start his vehicle to take Jason to work. I politely declined. LOL It's crispy out there, but not as bad as some other areas in the state.

I forgot to watch Kamala Harris's town hall on CNN last night, but have heard snippets from it this morning. She did sound good. A family friend watched it last night, and she really liked her. I like Amy Klobuchar too, and agree with Pam that I'm glad it will no longer be considered unusual for a woman to be running for President. Like Linda I am over Elizabeth Warren and torn about Joe Biden. I like him, but I agree it just seems like too much of the same old thing. Whoever the nominee ends up being I will be 100% behind them. For that matter, I would be behind DotRen,'s dog (the one who could have beat Ted Cruz ) in order to beat the JA. We simply can not have him get another term. I really believe if that happened there would be nothing left of this country to save. I'm hearing that a lot of people who voted Republican are saying they absolutely will not vote for Trump again, but I don't dare trust that. I didn't believe they would vote for him the first time. My faith in the electorate has been greatly diminished.

This article just made me feel good when I read it. Maybe it will do the same for you. During the years my mom and dad lived with us we had to call for help more times than I can possibly count because my dad would fall and we could not get him up. Both paramedics and the fire department would usually respond, and those firemen were so kind. They were young and strong, and would have my dad back up and in his recliner so quickly. Then they would laugh and talk with him for a bit so as to help ease his embarrassment at having fallen and not able to get up on his own or with our help as he was a big man, and if you've ever tried to lift just dead weight you can imagine. Anyway I was grateful for them, and this story made me think of those firemen. It's good to know that despite what we hear in the news and see in the WH, basically the world is still filled with good, kind people. www.cnn.com/2019/01/29/us/firefighters-baby-snow-shovel-iowa-trnd/index.html

I'm relieved to learn I'm not alone on the EW front. She's a single issue candidate and her most recent policy proposal is complex and unrealistic. Don't get me wrong, she's super smart and would make another great advisor or point person on consumer financial protections or the like. But, I can't fathom her as Commander in Chief. Sadly, she can be very polarizing and I don't see her garnering support from a large swath of the electorate. And not for nothing, that DNA stunt really left me cold.
Speaking of feel-good stories.... last night I watched as strangers from all walks of life attended the burial of a vet in Texas that had no family. That act of kindness reminded me of what we are when we are at are best. Sorry I have no link

Pam, I saw that on the news last night too. It was very moving. I wished I could have been there for him too. Those stories warm our hearts, and we need to hear more of them especially in the political environment we are living in now. That was a beautiful and very moving tribute.

"California Sen. Kamala Harris fully embraced "Medicare-for-all" single payer health insurance at a CNN town hall Monday and said she's willing to end private insurance to make it happen."
So she's definitely thrown down the gauntlet for private insurance companies. You know they are going to be pumping big bucks into the JA's campaign. Personally, I would like to see Medicare for all. I think it's long past time we should have that, but there are a lot of people who are going to be dead set against it as insurance companies have been very good at scare tactics about this for years. You don't see the countries who have this trying to get rid of it, and yet because insurance companies and the GOP have been so good at frightening people about it you'd think they believe that people are dropping dead like flies in all those countries instead of living full, healthy, long lives without worry of going bankrupt when an illness strikes.

Rene I'm with you on Beto O'rourke and I also worry that too many could divide the votes. Having said that, it's still fairly early and it will be a long slog. There's enough time to coalesce around a front runner. It would be good to see and hear the different proposals and how they stand up under pressure and scrutiny. And, every candidate has at least some baggage. I'm also thinking that other extraneous would-be candidates will decide not to run after all.

I'll be happy to furnish the duct tape if someone will just please put it over Lindsey Graham's mouth. He is a slimy, snake oil salesman if there ever was one.

Back to the Medicare for all issue, I've been thinking about that and need to learn more about Harris's proposal. Right now Medicare pays 80%, but you still need private insurance to pick up the remaining 20% or else pay that out of pocket, which could be hefty for a hospital stay. So I'm not seeing where the getting rid of private insurance is coming in other than are they thinking private insurance would pull out of the marketplace? If so, then there would need to be some changes to what Medicare covers because 20% can be a lot if the bill is in the thousands. Clearly I need to read more about her plan. I am definitely of the opinion that healthcare is a fundamental right of every person, however, and never a privilege just for those who can afford it.

I saw a portion of the interview with Howard Schultz this morning on Morning Joe. While this guy hasn't made a definite announcement, he definitely sounds like he is running. I don't get the point? Is he just doing this now to sell his new book? He has to know that he can't win as an independent, and he has to know that by siphoning off votes from the Democratic candidate he is assuring the JA a second term. So is he truly serious? Is he just enjoying an egotistical ride? Is he just trying to sell his book? What's up with him? And even if by some miracle he could win, how is he going to get anything done in Washington when he has both sides p*ssed off at him? He's throwing out broad topics and saying things he doesn't like about the current administration, but so far I have not heard anything concrete about how he would make changes. For instance he says we need to keep Obamacare and fix it, but as far as I know he hasn't offered any thoughts on how to do that. He talks about changing the tax rate on corporations, corporate gains, etc. but doesn't say how or how much. So does he have a plan or is this an ego trip?
