Hi all,
Crazy week. Trying to coordinate the repairs for the house. Running into snags due to it being an old house. The first thing to go in were the countertops. I picked out quartz—peppercorn white, which is white with specks of dark grey in it. It is really pretty. I’ll post pictures once the rest of the kitchen is done. It is extremely overwhelming, but when it is all said and done, I think it will look great.
Starting to finally feel like Fall here. Seems like it stays hot longer each year.

Holly, all renovation work is stressful—I find making the decision about what to go with stressful—and I don’t like living into the mess. I wonder if JoAnne is buried in her remodel downstairs—haven’t heard from her in a while.
Had a busy weekend—played cards on Friday, went to the choreographer’s showcase annual show on Saturday—go every year—it was really excellent this year. The last two dances literally made all four of us cry—was with 3 friends. Then went to the studio Saturday night for a special saggar fire and birthday party for one of our members—she puts it on every year. Was fun—food, visiting with friends—, she raffled off some of her work and I got two little pots with succulents in them. I fired two horses and the cow I made for DH—they turned out pretty cool—you wrap the pieces in foil after putting some caustic chemicals on them, a bit of carbon material, copper wire a bit of Miracle grow, and whatever else you choose—-then the chemical reactions stain the piece different reds and browns and blacks. Kind of fun as it’s a total surprise—now I have to figure out a way to shine them—tried waxing them tonight but the wax DH had did not work right—hoping I can get it off!
Made some really yummy ginger cookies today—shouldn’t have as I dearly love them.

I thought I posted this last Wed!
Hi!
Low key weekend for us, finally fully recovered from cold, no more congestion/coughing.
Have been doing my usual volunteering. Last Thurs I was invited to an opening night reception/event that the organization that I volunteer at is involved with. Every year a local magazine sponsers a Design Show where they partner with a developer and they build a house and furnish it fully. Every vendor, company, designer, etc is showcased in the magazine. They sell tickets to people who want to tour the house and part of the proceeds will go to the organization where I volunteer. It was out in the suburbs, close to where my sister lives, so we went together. It was interesting, first time I went to this, although my sister had volunteered as tour guide there when her charity was involved years ago. Very interesting to see my other volunteers there dressed up and not wearing hair nets! Working in the kitchen is not the most glamorous look, haha!
Holly, this move to new house is so exciting! How is your work coming along?

So I see that Holly did move into the new house already. You must be so busy settling in!
Joan, I love succulents, I've been buying succulent arrangements for these housewarmings I've been going to. I never realized how much you can do with pottery! We have a few pieces that I've bought for SO and we love them.
Busy week again with volunteering Tue/Thur. Thurs evening we went out to dinner with friends at a restaurant that I've been to before but SO and the other couple hadn't and it's one of the best restaurants in town, but kind of not in the best, or easy to get to neighborhood. It's middle eastern cuisine and was excellent.
Last night we took my second nephew and his gf out for dinner. So great to see them, I still can't get over how mature my nephews are! They came over to our house for drinks then we went to a gallery art opening down the street before dinner. The bad thing that happened was when we got to the restaurant, they made up wait for our table, then when they took us to the table, it was not in the regular dining room but next to the bar! I was so mad, SO was too. Just poor management. We walked out, found another restaurant nearby and went there instead. A Greek one, that I had not been to before. It was good though, we got a bunch of dishes and shared.
This afternoon we are going to ex-neighbors' house for memorial service for his father who just passed away. Whew, too much socializing!

You really have been busy, Sue—didn’t realize you had caught a cold as well.
Yesterday I went to open studio and did handbuilding for a change—I made the cutest thing—a fat chubby mermaid—made it out of dark brown clay that will fire nearly black so this is a black mermaid—she is so darn cute—I only need to go tomorrow and texture scales on her bottom half—fish portion—I literally loved making her—I made lots of curly hair that looks real==hoping I anchored it well enough so that it all stays in place throughout the firing. I am going to go back and make some more—also want to make a chubby lady sitting—not a mermaid==I cannot wait to glaze her. But of course I’ll have to!
Our studio is moving so closes down the week before TG and then reopens closer to home in a much nicer building on Dec 7–so anything we want in time for Christmas has to be made within the next week or so—guess I won’t be giving all pottery for Christmas after all!
Cruise BF’s DH spent two days with us—right after they gave up their apt here and made FLA their only residence he found out his mom (83) has stage 4 cancer so he will be coming off and on. She will not take treatments—she lost 26 pounds this last year—is about 100 # now and has COPD—and other things that compromise her strength==so will have pain management care only.
My friend who started taking clay lessons with me and had to quit lost her mother yesterday—she was in her 90’s—will go to funeral and reception after tomorrow—need to get some fruit to put together a fruit plate for her.
Wondering how the remodel is going in Georgia?? And in NC?
We have had the most spectacular fall weather—just cool enough at night for a light sweater or jacket—walked Saturday and it was so beautiful.
I have an issue with one finger nail—I think I am literally losing the nail on my middle finger—it started turning red like there was blood collecting under it and now it’s like it’s disconnecting from my finger! It looks horrible. Anyone ever have that happen? I never have seen anything like this. And this just when my nails are starting to get somewhat healthier—they at least are getting stronger even tho they don’t grow long without breaking at the corners.

Thinking Holly is as well?

Joan, I have had that happen to my toe nails. It's red then it turns almost black and you have to wait for it to grow out and then it does seem like it lifts a bit from the nail bed, but then a soft layer grows underneath it and it gradually hardens. It takes a long time.
It was really nice to see my ex-neighbors last night at his father's memorial reception.
Tomorrow is volunteer day. Starting to get organized for our cruise, looking at what we have to do to get visas. We can get visas for every place that requires it on board, for a fee of course, except for India.
We keep finding out that more couples that we know are going on the same cruise. At least 5 so far! And we will meet up with another couple in Capetown, they have homes in London, Spain and Capetown and will be there when we are supposed to be there.

It’s as though you have a cruise neighborhood now, Sue! That has to make it so much more fun!
I made butternut sq soup tonight—roasted all the squash, shallots and a small sweet potato then just add veg broth and seasonings—it is so yummy—even DH who isn’t a fan loved it for a change. Waiting for DD to pop over and pick up a cup to take home. She worked late tonight.

So excited about my new mermaid—went and made her scales this morning early after a very early morning 2 1/2 mi walk—I found a tool that my friend had given me (her late husband’s tools) that made perfect scales—took me 2 hours to so the scales but I think it’s pretty cute—can hardly wait to have her ready to bisque and glaze!

Hi folks! Excuse the intrusion I am just popping in to let both boards (Less to Lose and A Lot to Lose) know we are going to merge you guys and call it the "Weight to Lose" board. We are posting this announcement now before we do the actual merge so all the regulars know it is coming and will be able to find it with no issues. Same place, just a name change. If you have this board bookmarked it will still work (I did a test run with the recipe board) and none of your threads will be lost. We are doing this because we are going to be adding a few new boards (see our post BIG NEWS in the announcements for more information) and wanted to streamline things to add some space. Thanks a bunch for being a part of our community!

Hi all,
It’s been a rough few weeks. Sue, since you aren’t on social media, Charlotte was hit by a car last week while I was out of town. Feeling really out of sorts with the new house and losing her. I will have to find a new routine.
I’m getting a lot more walking in now that I can walk to/from work.

Holly, I'm so, so sorry for your loss! Wish I could hug you in person. Man, I remember when you first got Charlotte, and figuring out what to name her. I'm really sad this happened to her.

Bummer about the boards merging—but maybe we’ll get to know some more people. We could start a group strand on Text Message of FB—I think Holly had suggested that once before.
Has anyone heard any news from JoAnne that perhaps I missed. Hope all is okay!
I made two really cute little clay fish for friends of my mermaid last night while watching the series Press on PBS_-it’s on Amazon Prime too I think—it was really good. Watched all six episodes in two days—you know I’m watching too much tv when that happens.
Holly, have you started on your kitchen? I hope you will consider getting another dog—I just don’t know if I could cope without my pets!
Got down in the 40-s last night and today was cool all day—wow what a change!

jmg44 I saw your post. I left it separate as a sub-group so you guys still have your own board. Let me know if this works! 😊 ((( holly2007 ))) I am so sorry for your loss.
