Happy Valentines’ Day! Pouring rain here—flooding in some streets—four people had to be rescued—has not stopped all day—very unusual for Vegas—started well into the night.
Baking my pear almond cake and roasted some butternut squash chunks for my salad—just need to set table—only five coming. Did pilates and cardiosculpt—skipped tai chi.

Hi!
Happy belated Valentine's Day!
Busy week, volunteered on Tues, got my hair cut on Wed, went to the accountant for my parents and my taxes yesterday. Needed to get that done before my trip since I won't get back until the second week of April.
Our main tv's cooling fan broke down a few days ago. Instead of spending 300-400 fixing it we bought a new one and will give the broken one away. We only got it about 4 years ago, and it's 4k ultra hd smart tv.
Joan, you always do a lot of sightseeing in NYC. Glad you got to spend good times with DD and DGD. Hope your cold is better.
Well, have lost 4.5 lbs on the protein diet, I know it's mostly water, but it feels good! It always surprises me how easy it is for me to not have my usual wine, etc in the evenings. But I do so enjoy it when I do.
I've been buying usual clothes, makeup, etc online in preparation for my trip. Always like to have a few new things. Need to buy some shoes, 2 of my favorites got totally worn out on the last trip.

Hi everyone! Sorry I have been absent lately. I have been doing a lot of t.v. Shopping for clothes- they have had many clearance sales and I really need clothes. I have gotten so lazy lately and find myself doing so much online shopping! It is so convenient.
My DGD13 is back in school and seems to be doing well. She is in a school with 1 teacher to 3 students. She has daily goals and a daily report is sent home to parents. So far, so good. She will finish the year here and then hopefully be back to her regular school next year.
DH has now lost 25 lbs and is still counting. I am so proud of him.
I never started the exercise program I was talking about. I really need to get into some exercise program. There are 2 programs I can do at home that I am considering. Hopefully I will start one soon. I feel I have vegetated during the winter.
I am already planning another remodeling project on my downstairs. We need new flooring, ceiling and lighting. I want some built in bookshelves and a desk built in for DH. We will probably do it in August or September.
I put pictures of the bedroom, closets, and bathroom on Facebook. I am really enjoying all of it!
Joan- hope your cold is better. Glad you had such a nice trip!
Holly - how great you are going to Israel!
Sue- I am so excited that the Walking dead is back on. I do miss Rick though! I am also watching the third season of Victoria. It is so very good!
Got to get on the taxes for this year- although it should be so much easier this year.

The kids are out of school this week for some break - they seem to have so many that I cannot keep up. They will stay with me Tuesday and Wednesday
Hoping I can get them out in the yard helping pick up sticks and pine ones

Hello everyone—have been so busy—DS park ranger and family were here till Sunday about noon—then I was at the clay studio both Sunday afternoon and Monday morning since the gym was closed for holiday. Visits with DS park ranger are always a mix of enjoyable and somewhat stressful. DS is very self centered—only has interests in his things—so the whole weekend discussions only “work” if they are focused on fishing or his job and his stories. The first day it’s sort of entertaining and then it’s harder after that. Truly don’t know how DDIL copes full time. I had a big dinner Sat night—DD and DGS14 came over too—ate out Friday night and they spent time on the Strip with DGD13 and his friend. It snowed Sunday quite a lot for Vegas and was still on the ground at 9 am yesterday. Funny to see cars with fluffy white tops. No one wanted to dust off their cars—sort of like having a badge to show off—LOL.
We are making a marionette of clay and I have spent three days on the head=-=did three total eye replacement surgeries and still her eyelids are not down far enough and she looks as tho she has Graves’ disease really bad! I will try to add a bit of eyelid one more time and then call it done. Have not even started the body yet—made the legs and arms and hands and the start of the feet/shoes. Crazy hard project!
Get haircut Thursday and cannot wait—it’s so much longer and thicker!
Wow, 25 # is a lot, JoAnne—I can imagine how thrilled you are—I remember your frustration when he was sneaking in burgers on the sly!
I made my boiled orange almond cake into a meyer lemon cake and it was so, so good—the little chunks of peeling are delicious with the chewiness of the almond meal. DDIL and DGS13 loved it—they are lemon fanatics like myself.
The pictures on FB from Holly’s trip look as tho she is totally immersed in having a great trip!
Doing three classes at the gym today—have to get tax stuff ready for Thursday night at 4. Then I have class at 6;30–ugh a packed day as I also get haircut that day and have gym classes. Supposed to meet up for lunch with old yoga gang but not sure I can work it in. I saw where Amazon made like 11 billion plus profit the past year and will pay zero in taxes. It sickens my stomach.
We watched most of the episodes from the Lorena Bobbit documentary on Amazon—it should be required—our nation is so hateful to women who are abused and live in nightmare conditions—the woman is always the bad person and nothing seems to ever change. Then I found out that a young teacher I had at my second school finally got away from her totally abusive husband (she used to come to school so beat up and make up stories of falling down stairs and falling in the tub) to explain purple bruises, broken wrists, black eyes—it was horrible—but I guess after she got away she fell under his pressure and went back and is still with him—what sad news that was to me! My mom used to go and counsel two of her friends who were always beat up by their drinking husbands—I remember the quiet talks and the bruises and always wondered how the kids survived and turned out.
I never have shopped on tv—have a friend who does though. I like being in the store to try on things. Sue I imagine you are in last minute get ready mode for sure.
DH and I need to clean out the office closet—it is a nightmare—and now the pole brace broke and our hands are forced—will be good—half of what is in there needs to be donated. DH collects coats — sort of a fetish—and he needs to pare down big time. I have material I’ll never use and need to donate it.

Excitement here today! About noon we heard two loud explosions and the saw a raging fire out our Back door. The House next door was raging on fire. The flames were above the tall trees. There must have been at least 8 emergency vehicles that came. I learned something interesting from the firemen. The more calls they get the more vehicles respond. If they only get one call they figure it is only something small but if there are multiple calls they figure it is really big. This certainly was big! There is only one guy who lives there and he did get out unharmed. The fire inspector said he believed lightning hit the house- there was a thunderstorm. It was 6 or 7 o’clock before all of the trucks left. The owner was in our garage watching it all with a bunch of other neighbors until about 5 o’clock. DGK’s were really excited about it all and getting to talk to the firemen.
Yes Joan ,25 # is a lot but he has more to go and it is slowing down . He needs to add exercise. But I am not complaining! He is wearing clothes he has not been able get in for years. I told him when he loses 25 more we will go on a shopping trip!

Joan - you are doing really complicated projects with the clay. You must get so much satisfaction out of seeing the completed things you make.
Enjoy your trip!

Hi!
Nice day today! After snow and cold, today is going up to 50's, crazy.
Jojo, 25 lbs is a lot! So glad your DH is taking steps towards better health. When do you think you will have everything done in your house that you want done? The fire is scary, was there a lot of damage? Thank goodness everyone safe.
Joan, when was the last time you had this much snow in LV? Is this the DS park ranger with the concussions?
Got our new tv today and spent morning setting up, whew. Hate all this technology stuff, of course, I'm the one on the phone with comcast figuring out all the connections and the remote control.
Also, an ex colleague (she left long ago for NYC with her surgeon DH) came by. She is in charge of a charity event in NYC and SO is donating one of his paintings. There will be a lot of CFOs of banks, and major companies there so hopefully, there might be additional interest in his work. Really great to see her, we used to hang out all the time when we first started in our profession, we were the "young group", so go back to when we were still in our 20's.
Tonight, our dept's secretary is coming over to visit and we'll take her out to dinner. I'm still on the low carb diet, but tonight's plan is steak and salad. I've lost about 7 and my stomach has shrunk big time, love it!!! Clothes are feeling much better. The diet ends Sat but I want to keep it up a little bit more.

Joan- wow ! A lot of snow for you!!
Sue- it looked like about 1/2 of the house burned but ALl of the windows are black with soot. He is a musician and has a studio downstairs- it is a split level. None of his equipment was damaged and the firefighters covered it all with tarps; so the owner was very relieved about that. Yes, scary it was! Congratulations on the weight loss! I know that feeling
I have been looking at some exercise programs for home and have Found that I have access to some good tapes thru my Amazon Prime. I will look at them tomorrow . Glad I don’t have to shell out money for them .

Sue, DS ParkRanger lives in central NV—he had the ATV accident nearly two years ago—back fusions, broken ribs and shoulder blade. DS in SLC is the skier, bike rider one who had the concussions. He has no children.
Hope something sparks interest in SO’s paintings at the fund raising event.
It snowed till about 1 pm or so today—we had a huge snow in 1979–another huge one in 1974—and lesser one in about 2009 or 2010–but the latter was not as big as this. 79 was bigger—school busses couldn’t run for two days then. School was open today—very low attendance I noticed at the school near my gym.
Ah the cruise diet—you are so good at that.
Holly should be coming home soon.

Cold and breezy today—still have a white yard but the snow is melted off the trees—still on some rooftops and on the mountains surrounding Vegas as well.
Did my dance and weights classes today—before going I pinched another cat plate—made two at home now—will roll another slab for two more tomorrow at the studio and then form them here. Picked up my bisque fired horse and will paint underglaze spots and mane and nose and then clear glaze the rest since the clay fires very pretty tan with sort of speckles in it.
Spent some time visiting with WW BF—she is full time caretaking her DH now—his dementia is worsening. Tried to talk her into getting help—she is postponing it because it feels like giving up but truly she must have a break—can tell this is wearing her down just in her voice on the phone.
making a roasted veggie salad for dinner with a Vegas roll sushi roll for dinner—picked up the sushi. I tasted it at the market and it was delicious. This market has a sushi chef and he serves samples on certain days featuring one roll or another. Everyone was buying one of these.
Staying home tonight and painting my horse but going to BF’s for dinner tomorrow and playing a little silly game with quarters—six of us—same game we played Christmas Eve here—Left, Right Center. Hope everyone has a nice weekend. We see Come From Away Sunday night—broadway play this month.

Hi all,
I got back on Wednesday and have been adjusting to everything. The trip was awesome, and went by really fast.
It was interesting to see the major biblical sites first hand.
It has been raining forever it seems.

Welcome home, Holly! Now for the “let down” of the normal life after so much excitement! For me when I go places and love it, it’s a mixed bag coming home—always look forward to my cats and my classes and friends but also the anti-climax drop is part of it as well. Anyone else experience that?
I am headed to clay class today in about an hour and will be there till early afternoon. We are making some sort of lamp today—hope it’s something I feel I can “get in to”—was sad my plates were not yet fired—another member explained the process to me—have to fill up like five or six shelves of green ware to fill the kiln and my first clay was not the kind most people like to use so the shelf fills up very slowly!
Now i’ve switched to a different clay so things move faster. Yesterday I made two small cat plates at home and will roll out clay for two more today while there. Then I’ll have four little hors d’oeurves plates and two larger serving plates. Each will look like a different kind of cat. Will be cute for when we play cards and have snacks.
DGD18 had her final performance at Complexions in NYC—culmination of her special classes she took in January—she must have really appreciated it as she actually posted something on FB about it and thanked her parents there—first post she’s ever done. Wish we could have gone—I looked for super cheap special flights but there were none for that time period.
Holly, how many were in your tour group? Was this a church group?
