People over 60 have a different metabolism than those who are younger, and weight loss gets harder as one ages. This thread is for us.
Join us! Share your ideas, your successes, your frustrations. Offer support. Get advice from folks who are on a similar journey.
Our challenge is to stay on plan, exercise and keep trying to lose weight while improving our overall health -- and maintaining a positive attitude!
Think about where you were and how you felt when you made the initial decision to join The Senior WW Challenge. Close your eyes and remember when you said to yourself “Enough is enough and I’m getting in shape!” On a scale of 1 to 10, how serious are you? You really need to be an eight or higher! If not, you should probably reevaluate your thoughts and feelings about regaining great health in your life.
If the thread has not been started for a day, and you are ready to post, feel free to get us started.
Questions of the day: Monday: Karen E; Tuesday: Ann; Wednesday: Sharon; Thursday: Ruth; Friday: Recipe Sharing; Saturday: Karen C: Sunday: Gail.

Good day friends.
Day 16 challenge: Find a supplement
I think I take plenty of these, but I have considered taking B-12 for a while. We lose that as we age. Mostly I’m good
Questions today are nostalgic... QOTD: Do you still write checks? Do you write letters? Do you use hankies? Do you use aprons? Do you wear hose? Any other customs of the past you still use?
I made Don a breakfast casserole this morning. He can have that for a few days. He likes it for lunches too and I’m sure that way he’s eating some vegetables. I’m skipping eggs for another week or two and then will add them back. I made salmon patties and will have one for breakfast for my protein.
Shuffleboard league today. I might go with Don to his dentist appt today and then out to lunch before shuffle.

Questions today are nostalgic... QOTD: Do you still write checks? Yes but only for a few things such as HOA fees and real estate tax. Do you write letters? Yes to my oldest sister and to an elderly neighbor that moved away. Do you use hankies? Yes but only if I have a bad cold and then it’s one of Dons big ones. Do you use aprons? Yes I’m a messy cook. Do you wear hose? No never. I might wear tights for a fashion look. Any other customs of the past you still use? Probably, can’t think of any.

Good morning! The roads were slick when I was out yesterday and they're slick again today with black ice from a freezing mist that's been falling. I don't have any place I need to be today so I plan on sticking close to home. Sharon, a breakfast casserole sounds delicious. I may need to make one soon. QOTD: Do you still write checks? Yes. I'm old school when it comes to bill paying. Do you write letters? No but I do like to send cards. Do you use hankies? No but I never did. I prefer disposable tissues. Do you use aprons? No but I did buy a really cute one for Maya last year for Christmas. She loves helping her mom cook. Do you wear hose? Yes but they're the doctor ordered compression pantyhose.
Any other customs of the past you still use? I'm sure there are but I can't think of any at the moment.

Early check in front me and I do not know where this day is headed. May go to Hospice and if so need to pick up some fabric marking pens. I use the heat disappearing marking one's to mark design's on quilts for quilting.
Already completed a 10 minute SSGo in house walk which included 4 trips up and the stairs. Feed the cats, now need to hang bird feeders and feed myself. Not supposed to snow until tonight but one can never believe what they tell you about the weather. Supposed to donate blood Monday with more snow predicted that day so may see if I can donate today in Ottumwa at Blood Center very close to Hospice House.
AOTD: We do write checks as no on line checking for us. We are very old style as no ATM not Debit cards. Do use credit cards. Write letters at times but do send lots of cards. Not hankies, Plus tissues. No I do not use an apron. I do wear hose when wearing a dress. I have very ugly legs with large veins, sort of inherited that from mother.
Have a great day if weather permits.

good morning
It is 49 here so I have on jeans and a long sleeve shirt. I have 2 things today and both involve food and church. I had trouble sleeping so got my best sleep at 8:30 this morning and then the phone rang at 9.
Questions today are nostalgic... QOTD: Do you still write checks? Yes--my checking account pays a nice rate if I write them. The one month I was one check short cost me $35 in interest. However if things come out automatically it counts, too. Do you write letters? A few but usually has to do with a company and not a person Do you use hankies? no Do you use aprons? no Do you wear hose? no Any other customs of the past you still use?
I have so much to get done and it is already 10. I spilled a whole cup of tea last night and did a fast clean up with towels so I need to clean that better and sweep and mop the kitchen and a bathroom. I need to empty the dish washer, too. I want to call the cruise line and see if I can talk to anyone about the travel insurance from July 2016. But as Sharon said I will probably just pay the $300 and be done with that bill . I am feeling so overwhelmed right now and perhaps I need to take one of those anxiety pills the Dr. prescribed --maybe I will take half of one. I know it is good to be busy but I am on overload with it right now.
My iPad refuses to work even when plugged in so good I am getting a new one. I need to check my email to see if it is in yet but was told it would be a few days.
I need to eat breakfast so off I go to try to get something done in the next hour before I leave.

Good morning all. Sharon thanks for the start. Where is Sandy? Jane sounds like half a pill might help. Overload is not good. Believe me, I know, as I put myself there occasionally. Maybe more than occasionally. Pace yourself. I've learned that the cleaning doesn't get any worse if you let it slide for a day.
Vicki and Karen E be carful with the snow and ice. I HAVE SUN TODAY. Cold weather, but not gray skies. Of course the new storm you are getting will give me plenty of rain tomorrow and again all day Saturday. I'd love to see a few flakes. Not dangerous roads, but a few flakes in the sky would look wonderful to me.
Off to the bank and get gas. I need some more bird seed as they are hungry little creatures this winter. I'm sure Huey will go with me. He didn't get to go yesterday and was very disappointed every time I left the house without him.
Off to start this wonderful, fabulous, sunny day.

Greetings: Yesterday was full. We both weighed when we got back from Vegas. This morning DH weighed and has lost 6 pounds. SIX POUNDS. I have not. He read an article in Prevention about eating more fruits and veggies. That should not have been news to him!
Today is gray so far but it's supposed to be in the low 40s. It snowed while we were gone, didn't meet the threshhold and we have a frozen mess in front of our house.
Today we'll go to dinner w/ friends. She called last night and said she has shingles. We both have had the shot, so we're still going out to a new restaurant which is a 30 minute drive! We'll see some new streets, I think.
QOTD:
Do you still write checks? Only when we have to. Cleaning lady and if there isn't enough time for a billpay check to get there -- like one of the senior outings. All recurring bills are on autopay. Other bills that come we either pay on the provider's website or send a billpay check. Do you write letters? I write notes in cards. I do my postcards for short notes when it's just to let someone know I'm thinking of them. Do you use hankies? No, but I never did. I have some handkerchiefs from my Dad and we use them for eyeglasses. Do you use aprons? Yes. Not all the time. It depends on what we're cooking. DH just decided to use an old one while he's painting so when it's covered in paint we'll just toss it. Do you wear hose? I would say the same thing as Karen -- when I wear a dress, suit, something where my legs "show". And then I realized, I haven't worn anything like that for years! I wore a dress to DSS's wedding in 2011 and to DS's vow recitation in 2012. I don't think I've had a dress on for more than 8 years! But, two or three hang in the closet. Perhaps I should remove them to the basement closet. Clearly they are taking up prime real estate! And are extremely out of fashion, but that isn't a real issue. Any other customs of the past you still use? I am a staunch RSVP'er. I feel alone in that. I defer to my elders offering a place to sit or advancement in a line although there are fewer of them!
And now if I don't move I'll be late for exercise!

Apparently not good at math either! It's just 2019, not 2020. So, 7 years since I wore a dress~

Good afternoon everyone. I am awaiting a repairman for my 1.5 years young dishwasher (grrr), then will be meeting a friend for lunch.
I use plenty of supplements. I started using Biotin for hair and nails a while back and have noted a difference. Does anyone use a probiotic? Someone I know recommended it. The only other thing I am considering.
I'm coming over for your breakfast casserole, Sharon. I love them.
AOTD: Such interesting ones, Sharon! Do you still write checks? not many, but yes. My hair salon prefers a check to a credit card and that is also how I pay my cleaning lady. Do you write letters? Almost never, unless it has to do with a problem with a business. Even there I try to use email so I have a permanent copy. I do send cards. Do you use hankies? No Do you use aprons? Yes. Like you, Sharon, I am not the neatest cook. Do you wear hose? Yes, if I wear a summer dress that is not long enough to cover my varicosities, which is rare. Otherwise no. Any other customs of the past you still use? Depends on your perspective as to what the past is. I still read actual books (some online, though), I have a land line, but I only use it to locate my cell phone, and I still like nightgowns, though I also wear jammies sometimes.
I need to get ready to leave for lunch before the repair man comes. I'll check in again later.
Gail

Today my scale was down .4. I have been keeping track of my weight each day on my calendar and I have lost 2 lbs. since last Wednesday. I have been OP and tracking regularly since Saturday and is an eye-opener for me.
QOTD:
Do you still write checks? Not often. The only check I write on a regular basis is to the percentage I pay to the CDD my yoga classes. I do my banking online and deposit any checks not directly deposited via my mobile app. Do you write letters? No. I do write hand written thank you notes when my yoga students give me gifts. Do you use hankies? No Do you use aprons? No Do you wear hose? No - too hot in FL. Any other customs of the past you still use? None I can think of
Vicki, I hate black ice! It is so dangerous. Yes, do stay home and safe!
Mike is going to the Dr. with me today (for my knee)
Oh, I almost forgot, I thoroughly enjoyed THE UPSIDE! It is a great movie! I will give my review on GROOVY MOVIES when I get back from the Dr.

Gail, This is the probiotic I have been using for 2 years. You find it in the Refrigerated section of vitamins at health food store.

I have had a hectic day. After knocking over my tea and spilling a whole cup last night , today I dropped a container of cantaloupe and had it all over the floor. So glad I hadn't mopped the floor yet. I cleaned it up with a paper towel because I had no time to do better. But I was home at 2 and checked my email and my iPad was in so I got in the car and headed to Apple. I had to park a long way from the store. This area is just so busy and that mall is huge and Apple is so busy you can hardly get in the door. A very nice young lady took care of me and managed to stay with me to get it all installed again. She was very sweet and found a chair for me. I guess I do look rather old and pitiful now. So after I got home I got the kitchen floor cleaned and where it had hit the cabinets and fridge.
The widow's luncheon was OK--maybe a bit of a disappointment. The minister had a little talk he gave and a woman at my table acted as though it was audience participation and interrupped him over and over . I hate to say that she is the one who lives in my community and wanted to take me under her wing at the meeting I went to before. The leader asked why I hadn't called her back and I told her she didn't leave a phone number. Well it is on your phone she said. No it isn't. If you leave me a message I don't see a phone number. How hard is it to leave your phone number with a message. Anyway as I said it was OK. I will go back because I do like the minister. Next month they have a woman speaker and the following they are doing a high tea. I didn't know which door to go in for the church meeting and parked and walked to the closest one and it was locked with a sign directing to the office so I went back to the car and moved it and went in another door. Well next time I will know. However the dinner tonight is in the same room and I would imagine that I need to go in the main door. These churches are so big that finding the right door can mean a lot of walking which I am unable to do.
I never got any of my calls made but this phone has rung a lot today. And none that I needed--several robot calls which I didn't answer and every time I was doing something else and couldn't get to a phone in time--no message--so nuisance calls and as I was going out the door. I think there were 6 of them today.
I need to change clothes before going to church dinner
I do think I am going to have to slow down because I am really feeling tired. I never took the anxiety pill. I really hate to depend on that. Since I have only been to Silver sneakers once I would like to go tomorrow but will see how I feel. If I am feeling so overwhelmed in the morning I think I will stay home and try to get those phone calls made. I have the concert at the clubhouse tomorrow night so that is relaxing and the table I sit at is a friendly one and not one that is clique.
Time to take Kelcy out, get the trash out and put a note on the old can asking them to take it, change clothes and put away a few things and out the door again.

Ruth congratulations on your consistent weight loss. Let us know what’s going on with your knee after Monday.
Jane if you have a smart phone, the phone numbers of people who called you are in recent calls. So sorry for your dropped messes. I do that too. Don’t feel bad the lady that helped you with the iPad got you a chair. Being a little white haired lady has its benefits. I use it often.
Gail I like this breakfast casserole because it doesn’t include potatoes or bread. It’s basically a baked omelet with vegetables and meat. This one I made with chopped ham, red bell pepper and scallions.
My partner and I lost all four games again today at shuffleboard. I know I’m rusty but I’m a little depressed about it.
Lunch out today was fried fish and now I can’t have much for supper.
