Good morning fellow crafters!
I am not usually here so early- but with all the ice and snow and freezing rain...school is on a 2 hour delay this am. So I am up anyway, and starting the thread is something I can do quietly and not wake up the house.
Ruth- you make me smile with your saga of the scarf and fingerless gloves. you will finish it- yes I know you will! Do you think you will have to purchase more yarn if you do make the fingerless gloves to match? I do not think they would take all that much yarn.
CJ-wow- you are truly the quilting queen here! Glad you got to try out the new log cabin ruler and have figured out the secret to getting it to work. I would agree (with no knowledge of log cabin, but just quilting in general) that as long as each piece gives you the 1/4 inch seam all around it should work just fine. Hopefully this week, as things start to slow down (ha ha ha) I can check out the cool links you leave for us to see what you are up to.
Phyl- Joanns does that with instructors and their classes. Regretfully, the one near me is very understaffed- but the staff that is there is very nice. Were you also considering taking a class or just Delona?
The baby afghan is DONE! Last night I got a text from the baby's grandmother asking me for a pic of the afghan to show the baby's dad (which is why I made it, I kind of figured the baby's mom's side would not make anything for the little fellow). So I got the afghan out of the dryer (I had already washed it) and took a picture. The baby's mom will not see the afghan until it is given to her. The baby was a month early- but still a little over 6 pounds. I do know that they were watching him in the hospital- but it was all precautionary- they thought he was doing just fine.
So now to move on to another project! Might make one of those slouchy hats for myself. Or the embroidered pillowcases that I have waiting to be worked on, or DD#2's quilt from my mom's blouses.....where do I begin!?!
Hi to Meg- who I hope is feeling better.....you start your injections/infusions this week, right?
Have a great day Ginny

Good morning Ginny, thank you for getting us started today. Sorry you are still dealing with snow and ice. I have good news for you, spring is on it's way. Our weather has been very nice, warm sunny days. Of course it will get colder again but we do get spring earlier here than the rest of the country. Tomorrow I go for my eye treatments and Thursday I get my iron infusion treatments. Today I will go to lunch with a group of ladies from church. They meet once a month at a different restaurant. Today we are going to Sizzlers. I like their chowder so I had better watch I don't eat too much. I have managed to do some work on my b/blanket on Saturday. Wont be long before I get it finished.
Ruth, I have the TV and I have been listening to the news reports about the Oroville dam. They have evacuated the people who live in Oroville and Marysville. I thought that last week they had fixed the dam but apparently not. You mentioned Pinterest patterns. I have noticed when I go to check out a free pattern what they really want is my e-mail address sp that they can send me e-mails trying to sell me something. I don't want to sign up for more e-mails I already get more than enough e-mails. But I do pin some of the afghans that I like because of the color combinations which I would like to try. Some of the stitches I could figure out and make up my own pattern.
I will check back later. Have a great day.

Hello Crafters - Hope you are all doing well today Phyl - That yarn sounds really pretty, glad you were able to get it. I thought about taking a class at my local JoAnn Fabrics, but I figure I could learn just as much over the Internet. Ginny - hope the snow wasn't too bad for you. We had very windy weather here last night and today, but we've managed to avoid the snow so far this year (fingers crossed). It's exciting to figure out what new project to work on, isn't it? I hope the new parents love the baby afghan you made them. Meg - Hope you enjoyed your lunch today and that you find some time to work on your blanket. Ruth - Hope you are doing well I did buy some more batting at JoAnn Fabrics today. It was 50% off, so I bought a few types that had been recommended on websites I checked out. I'm ready now to start practicing my machine quilting and I'll keep a list of what batting I use with each project so I can tell what I like about it and maybe what I don't. Otherwise, no time for any crafting for me today. Take care everyone.

I got a late start on here today and was anxious to see that Meg is ok and glad to see she is. Ginny, yes this shawl has turned into a much bigger deal than I thought it was going to be for sure. I don't know whan i'll get started on the infinity scarf and I don't know if I'll make the fingerless gloves the same color or not. I would like to make a light infinity scarf because it doesn't get all that cold where whey live in southern Ind. I have to look thru my yarn again and see what I have that's light.I've noticed a lot of the patterns call for bulky yarn. There's one pattern I'd like to try but after the fiasco with this shawl pattern I'm a little leary of starting that one right now. Her birthday is March 12th...ddil that is. Dgd who the shawl is for birthday is March 16th. They'll probably both be late but just the other day ddil said again that it just makes hte birthday spirit last longer. I am finally going out tomorrow to mail the box with the gifts for dgs and dgd who had bdays on Feb1st and 3rd.. Just two weeks late...not bad PHyl, that yarn does sound pretty. I bought some Red Heart Love when I was out last and the color is called Mango but it, too, looks more like coral. It's really pretty. Ginny, congrats in getting the blanket done. I know the mom will be thrilled and I'm so glad to hear that the little one is ok. Meg, that's another restaurant we don't have here. We used to go to one back in Ny. Have a good time. Well off to work on this shawl again.. I think dish washing first though.

Good evening!
Meg, Hope that you enjoyed your lunch at Sizzler! I have not been to one in a long time, but remember that the food is predictable and good- also reasonably priced. Hope you behaved with regard to that chowder!
Ruth- I sure hope that you find a yarn that you want to work with- and do not have to buy more yarn. there are some really nice airy yarns that would work up so well.... the way I see your package mailing system, it's rather like getting Christmas every few weeks in the mail! I do not see it as such a big deal if the package is a little bit late...homemade gifts are well worth the wait.
CJ- congrats on getting the batting 50% off! I know it's a personal choice- and I am curious to see which one you like best. Happy practicing!
In the realm of unbelievable and stupid, DMIL's interment is tomorrow at a really odd time. I hope that with all the snow, they are able to get this done so that Dh can have some closure. Healing from MIL's passing is going to take a long time.
See ya tomorrow Ginny

CJ, I meant to say that if I had seen batting for 50% off I would have bought some too even though I don't even quilt yet but if a person has a plan to use it at some time why not get it when it's on a good sale. If you wait there's no sale and the original price goes up too. I guess that's why I have so much yarn and fabric in my house....well and a lot of other things too.

Good morning!
Phyl, I guess we were posting at or close to the same time.... I agree you on the dinner hour- but sometimes it's better eating early to get it over with. Glad you were able to get some webbing from Hobby Lobby. What bag are you making???
MIL's burial was this morning- cold and snowy but I am so glad it is over. Perhaps now DH can begin the slow journey of moving on....he has a lot of emotional healing to do.
I started making a hat for myself last night. We'll sort of. I only got as far as making the magic ring and getting the instructions and yarn out. Will get busy hooking later on! Have a great day Ginny

Hello all. Ginny so good to hear that mil was finally interred. Yes the hard part comes afterward.
I've done the magic ring a few times but I find it so cumbersome so I usually just use my own version of it with chaining three and doing the stitches in the first chain of the three. It pulls tight too so it works for me.
Phyl, I would say too that the youtube videos really work for learning stitches but sometimes it's good to have someone to ask an opinion of what a term in a certain pattern means or which stitch they think the designer meant for you to stitch into. Talking classes though doesn't garantee that you'll be there when that advice is needed though and sometimes there isn't a youtube what what you need to know. So the way you learned seems great to me...friends to help and videos when needed.
Ginny, you did get a good start on the hat...any start is a good start.

Happy Valentine's Day I made a mini quilt top this morning - 15 inches by 15 inches using the heart blocks that I talked about a few days ago. I put 4 inch hearts in each corner (4 of them total) and a 7 inch square in the middle. The hearts were in a dusty pink color and the lighter fabric was white with a pink floral going through it. I used the white/pink floral to have side sashing around the 7 inch heart. It was just something fun to do for the holiday today. Ginny - I'm glad the burial is over and I hope your DH can get some healing done. It's really difficult when we still have emotional issues with someone who has passed away - since we don't get the chance to talk it over with them. Enjoy making your hat. Ruth - Hope things are coming along on the shawl. Phyl - I wish they had more of those classes in the daytime during the week, but I'm sure they are catering to the customer that is younger and doesn't work. I'd join a quilt guild again if there was one in my area that met daytime, but they all meet at night around here. Meg - Hope you are doing well. Take care everyone.

CJ, good to see you. I'm taking a little break. The quilt top you made today sounds REALLY beautiful! There are ways of posting pictures on here but I saw where Deb that runs the board explained it the ohter day and it sounds complicated. I'd love to see that quilt top if it wasn't so had.
Ok, I am now going to humbly confess that after starting this shawl completely over from the beginning the other day I found that it wasn't the pattern that was off, it was me. Now that I've made the first rows as they said not as my interpretation thought they meant them to be, I am now doing ok except when my mind gets distraceted and I forget to put two stitches where I should at the beginning of some rows. There are four rows that are repeated and if I don't have to keep frogging and can get two repeats done a day I should have it done in four days except for the edging. This morning though I did two rows and did count stitches after each one but I guess I need to go back to kindergarten because apparently I can't count correctly and I had to end up frogging and doing those two over. So now it does look like i have one sequence almost done. I want to do one more this evening. The rows are getting really long now so each row does take a bit of time esp the sc and hdc rows which two of them are.
Ok back to work

Good evening everyone, It has been a busy day. I had my eye treatments this morning. I did not have a severe reaction today though my eyes feel like I have grit in them and they are also a wee bit blurry. DS took me and brought me home. I can't see very well but I am sur that will be cleared up in the morning. It was another very nice day here,
Ginny, I am glad you got the burial service over with and hopefully everything will gradually get back to normal again. Lunch at Sizzlers yesterday was very nice and as usual when I go there I eat too much. I love the chowder they have there. I did work on my b/blanket and I just have about 2 more rows and then a border and sew in the strands of yarn, I have not enjoyed working on this blanket because of the yarn. How is your hat coming along?
Ruth, you have tried very hard with that pattern I don't think I would have the patience. I don't use patterns very much any more. but that only works with b/blankets. I am anxious to start a new b/blanket and I hope I can come up with a good combination of colors. Looking for color combinations on Pinterest gives me some good ideas and inspires me to keep going.
cj, I would love to see your quilts. I am sure they are beautiful. When they are finished what do you do with them?Phyl. how are you. take care.
I need to get off the computer because my eyes need to rest. I will check in tomorrow.

Meg, I love looking on sites like pinterest and others to get ideas for color combinations. Sometimes you really find some great ones that you might have thought wouldn'teven go together but when you see them in a finished item like that you find that they really do and, in fact, are beautiful. I don't use a lot of patterns either, usually, but since I've been making things for my grands I've used more patterns. Some were only used as guidelines and in others I followed the whole pattern. As i mentioned to Ginny one day, I'm not a patient person but I have trouble with giving up on things. And actually if it was something I was making for myself I might have given up but I actually have trouble letting a challenge go. I hate giving up whether it be on a crafting project or in an argument. Not an admirable trait when it's in arguments. And while doing this one I've learned a lot.
I hope by morning your eyes will be feeling good. When is it that you start your iron infusions?
