Wow, it's been busy here.....and I do not have the time to respond to everyone now....so I will just go in general.
CJ- that quilt top you made sounds so pretty!!! Wish we had some way of sharing here...and I just went against what I said above, but wanted to comment on that.
I dislike Pinterest. It's information overload for me- I much prefer simpler information- and the ability to limit my search- as lionbrand.com does. Guess I am old school. Pinterest is great for the pictures, but for me it's TMI. Dh grew up on a dairy farm- and their meals were early. Dinner was done by 5. But Dd has a friend, whose dad is also a dairy farmer and they eat dinner at 9! (Which would kill me, as I would never get my kitchen cleaned up that late). Guess it's all personal preference.
So sunny and in the mid 40's today. Wow. Feels like spring.
Gotta get back to work. Ginny

Hello everyone, well our spring has ended for a little while. Today is cloudy and a little colder. Those spring like days were very nice. This morning I went with DS to buy some shirts for Devin and a pr. of swimming trunks for his trip to Florida. They leave early tomorrow morning.
My eyes are feeling much better today and tomorrow I start my iron infusion treatments. I will have a treatment once a week for 5 weeks. I have done this before.
Ruth, I think I have pined enough b/blanket patterns to keep me going for awhile. It takes a lot of time browsing through their web site every day. I need to spend that time working on something.
Ginny, I'm with you I like to get dinner over with and the cleaning up done so that I can relax for the evening. Usually I delete e-mails that come from web sites like pinterest. It is only recently that I realized that they have knitting & crochet patterns and I am more interested in the color schemes than the patterns.
I wish you all a great day.

Hello all. I just got home awhile ago from shopping and still have to put away some of the stuff. It was grocery shopping.
I usually eat my dinner at about 8pm. I'm a late riser so don't usually have breakfast till at least noon but mostly around 1 or 2pm so sometimes have only the two meals. Dh eats at weird times too and we usually don't eat at the same time.
Meg, Pinterest used to send me emails but for some reason I don't get them anymore. Just as well because I used to spend WAY too much time looking through them. They had, I believer, four squares on each email, each of which had a hugely long page of patterns. I wasted whole lot of time doing that. I did find some nice patterns but it took way more time than it should have. Ginny, on pinterest you can narrow down and get only what you want but the lists are still extremely long and some patterns are repeated over and over. Then, as I mentioned the ohter day, some end up not being in English and some end up not being free even though you asked for free patterns. Sometimes they have knit patterns mixed in with crochet. Then if you click on one you sometimes get yet another page when you're not even finished with the first page yet so there's another couple hours of looking. I do like looking on Lionbrand, redheart.com, bernat, com and others like that. There are just so many things I want to make.
Anyway haven't had time to work on crocheting yet today. I'm tired from all the walking. i was able to pick up mail too. Most of it was junk mail but some bills and a couple packages from things we ordered and a nice surprise gift from a friend.

Hello Crafters - hope you are all doing well today Meg - I've only finished a few of my quilts and still have them. I just have alot of quilt tops done, but not put together as a quilt. I really need to get working on that. I'm glad that your eyes are starting to get better too. Ruth - Hope things with the shawl keep going well now that you've figured out what was going on. Phyl - Sounds like you had a nice meal at Olive Garden Ginny - Hope you are enjoying the milder weather. I don't like to say it out loud, but we've had such a mild winter here. I'm happy with that, but sure hope we can finish Feb and Mar the same as the rest of this winter. I lost a crown yesterday when I was eating my gummy vitamin So I went to the dentist today and he cemeted it back in. Block 9 of the Solstice quilt is out today, and it's a large 32x32 inch block. I find that I'm getting kind of irritated with this project. I wish I'd known at the start that there would be all these strange size blocks. If I had, I might not have participated. It just seems to me if I only make these blocks as 12 inch blocks, I won't get the full effect of them. So I'm not sure what I'm going to do at this point. Take care everyone.

Good evening!
Meg, sorry that your early spring has ended...but with where you live, real spring weather is just around the corner! Hope that Ds and Devin have a fun and safe trip to Florida. I am sure you will miss them but also the quiet might be nice. Its good news to hear that your eyes are doing better- and that the infusions begin tomorrow. Hopefully in a short amount of time you will be feeling and seeing much better!
Ruth- well, my day starts at 4:30 am.....and dinner is around 5 or 5:30. Thanks for the advice regardig Pinterest- but I agree with you that it's helpful for things like color schemes etc.....but for overall directions for a project, I do not use it. Yes, I attempted to limit my list- but as you said, sometimes you get things/projects you did not ask for. I have also had trouble with not being able to get directions. So I will stick with what I am doing now and ignore Pinterest.
Babysitting tomorrow...but thankfully, we are off on Friday and MOnday, making for a 4 day weekend.
Hope that CJ and Phyl are doing fine. Good night Ginny

CJ, that sure is a large block. Yes that's why I don't participate in crochet a longs or knit a long. I want to know what I'm making before I start. Maybe you can incorporate the blocks you've already made in a different quilt top completely. I'd bet you can design one yourself using them
Ginny, The only time I've had to get up that early was on the rare times I had to work day shift and believe me, it wasn't pretty. I also had to get up at that time when I flew to visit ds and his family. I absolutely HATE having to get up before about 9 am. Maybe 8 would be ok but 4:30...no way!! I loved when they had flights from here to Minneapolis. Then they didn't leave till about 10 am but unfortunately they did away with that route so it's either get up at 4:30 to take the early flight or end up there at the airport at 11pm and have ds or ddil have to drive 40 miles to pick me up then 40 miles back home. Now that I think of it though, next time I go I might just take the flight that arrives at 11pm then take the airport shuttle to a hotel and spend the night and ddil can come and get me in the morning after hotel check out time.I love staying at hotels...I'm weird.Down side is that if I made hotel reservation and the flight was delayed or cancelled I'd probably lose the hotel cost.
I do blab a lot

I was thinking the same thing as you , Ruth, that perhaps CJ could incorporate the blocks she made into her own creation without making the huge block.
And I have trained myself to get up at the hideous hour that I get up at. I am,by nature a night owl. I do love hearing the birds in the am though.
Babysitting today.....BBL Ginny

Hello Crafters - Hope you are all doing well today Thanks for the suggestions on the quilt block. I got over my "upset" feelings about this quilt and went ahead and made a 12 inch block this morning and I'm happy with it. I've made the choice to stick with the 12 inch blocks, so I just need to stay with that. The block this week would make a nice baby blanket or lap quilt and she gives instructions for that. Here's a link to Block #9: www.ilovetomakequilts.com/ - scroll down to see pictures of this block, some are very pretty. Ginny - I feel for you having to get up so early. I've never been a morning person and it was tough making myself get up to go to work all those years. I love being retired and now I sleep most morning until sometime between 7 A.M - 8 A.M. Hope you enjoyed the babysitting today. Ruth - I always enjoy reading your posts, you do not "blab" too much Meg and Phyl - Hope you are doing well. My mother used to make a pie that we called Graham Cracker Cream Pie - it was really a Vanilla Cream pie with a Graham Cracker Crust. Her pie was always delicious and I used to make it after she died. Since I can't eat all those calories anymore I found a way to cut the sugar and fat from the recipe and I've made it a few times and it's not bad - nothing like the real thing though. Anyway, I made one today, so I'll enjoy eating it over the next few days. It's nice to be able to have a "treat" like this sometimes. Take care everyone!

Naw, Ruth, you do not blab a lot...you just have your own outlook on things.. And that is just fine! There is something nice about a well appointed hotel (and I do not mean ritzy- just well done) and the luxury of staying there. Think the last hotel I truly enjoyed was when we stayed at one of the mid priced Disney resorts in Florida- my last trip there (over 10 years ago) was very relaxing...and staying there made for a really nice time.
I did get a little bit done on the hat today- and will do some more in a little bit. Dh has a bad cold- and is in bed already. So I have the living room to myself and can watch what I want. After the week I have had a nice evening of reading and crochet should be lovely.
I am livid though.....one little girl on my bus boarded for the trip home hysterical crying- I asked her what was wrong (as I moved her up to sit near me) and she told me her father was dying. I expressed some concern over that- and then asked her brother what the truth was (in a much more gentle tone) to which he told me that dad has the flu and told the kids "he was dying". The brother confirmed that Dad had been to the doctor and was going to be ok...this same father has told his kids that they are moving in a year or so to another country because the wrong person was elected president. I have been dealing with him now for 4 years- and indeed he is a flake and not a very good parent. Honestly, some people should have had sanity checks before they were allowed to reproduce. My heart broke for this little girl- because dad does not seem to notice that his daughter takes things very seriously.
See, Ruth, I can blab too!!
Ok, I have vented enough. Have a good evening. Ginny

Thank you CJ, you are so sweet for saying that. I'm glad you made a plan for using the blocks that will work for you. I think most of the time, in crafting of any kind, we have to be creative and not blindly follow the patterns that others have set for us. It does sound like a baby blanket would be a great use of those squares and I'm sure a lap blanket would be great too. oh that pie sure sounds good. I think a treat now and then is really necessary to keep us on track. If we feel deprived all the time what good is that.
Now I read you'r post Ginny and I thank you too. You ladies are wonderful. Ginny, you are so very right. There are so many people that absolutely should not be parents. There are some that make idle comments like that and children take them literally but this man sounds like he does it all the time and, as you said, has not realized yet that his child does take him seriously. Many parents are so self involved that they don't notice their children's feelings at all.Your evening of watching tv and crocheting sounds great.I do like my alone time when dh is taking naps.
Today so far I have made pasta sauce which is now simmering on the stove and I worked on my shawl. There is a mistake in row 9 but I can work around that now that I've figured it out and if nothing goes wrong I should be done soon. while working on it I'm trying to decide what yarn I'll make for my dil's infinity scarf and fingerless gloves. I also need to look up the other things I'm going to send to them...ddil and dgd...and I may need to buy something more for dgd. She will be 13 and I'm not sure what she likes but Last year when I made them each purses I put a half dollar in each coin purse htat was in the main purse and when she wrote her thank you note she mentioned how much she liked it (you don't see many half dollars anymore) and mentioned two other coins she had so one of her gifts will be a couple president dollars, a Susan B Anthony dollar, and a Sacajewa (sp?) dollar that she can add to her collection.DH already has silver coins for each of the grandchildren which we'll give them later, Oldest of those grandaughters loves horses so dh bought her a silver coin with a horse on it.
Hello to Meg and Phyl too. I hope all are having a good day. Ginny I hope your dh feels better soon.

Hello everyone, I have been on the go pretty much all day. I had my iron infusion this morning hope that perks me up. I have another one next Thursday. We have huge black clouds in the sky today. On the way home we had cloud burst which lasted just a few mins. I pulled off the road because I couldn't see where I was going. This afternoon I stopped at Michaels and bought some yarn. They had a sale buy one get the second one 50% off. I discovered recently that I can get an extra discount with my military ID card so I think I got a good deal. Looking at patterns has inspired me to use some different color combinations. I still have most of the Lion Brand Pound of Love that I bought on sale. I am almost finished with the b/blanket I have been working on. I was going to finish it off but decided to do 12 more rows.
DS and Devin left very early this morning to fly to Florida. Devin has never been on a big trip like this before. DS had his first flight at age 2 when we went to Germany. DGD is at work and I probably will be here on my own pretty much but I don't mind. This evening I will listen to my audio book and not worry that I will disturb some one else because I don't have head phones.
Ginny, that was sad about that little girls That is sad about that little girl. I hope you were able to make her understand that her father was not going to die. I worked with children for many years and little kids don't understand when someone is teasing.
cj, that graham cracker cream pie sounds delicious. I went to Sam's Club and walked around the bakery dept. I managed to resist some of the goodies they had. I did buy some do nut holes to take to knit wits tomorrow.
Ruth, when they first came out with the quarters one for each state I was going to N.I. and I took as many as I could find to give to my nephew. I was a few stares short and I don't remember which states I was missing. He is now very grown up and I don't know whether he kept them or not. He is now in his 3 rd or 4 th year at Queens University in Belfast. Now I am off to watch TV or whatever. It is going to be very quiet evening here all by myself. Have a good evening.

Meg, I didn't even know they had the president dollars (at least I think they're dollars, I'll have to look) but one day when I was at the bank there was a sign that said the Grant ones were in. So I bought enough of the ones they had ...apparently they'd been getting various ones for awhile.... for each grandchild. I think they might have had four different ones so I'll have four to send her instead of the two I mentioned earlier. I hardly ever go to that bank or I would have gotten the new ones as they came out. I'll have to ask next time I go there and see what they have. They aren't valuable or anything but kids like to collect coins because then they can dream that they'll become valuable. I have four sacagawea books to put coins in but I don't think I have the years that the book calls for.I got those coins by putting money in a change machine at the Minneapolis airport. $20 bill you got $20 in the coin dollars. I used to get the Susan B Anthony ones in change at the post office in their stamp machine.I bet your nephew loved getting those quarters. No he might not still have them but I bet he was happy when you gave them to him

Good morning! It's a lovely thing sitting here in my jammies and not having to fly out of the house this morning. Dh and I have already put together our first bird count (it's backyard bird count weekend, which we participate in) and I am trying to get my day organized. Regarding the father (who I left a rant about) I have been his daughters driver for 4 years- and I do indeed feel sorry for the kids. They were diagnosed with head lice about 2 months ago...(head lice to prefer dirty hair). THe father is a very self absorbed individual who used to become repeatedly angry with me because I did not want to wait in a bus at his stop for great lengths of time for him to either drop his kids off on the bus or pick them up at the stop in the afternoon. Mind you, their house cannot be seen from the stop- and - state law dictates- that ALL kindergarteners be met at the stop by an adult. So I was just doing my job. THis joker half the time is not watching his kids at the stop, but playing games on his phone (his son shared that with me). And the guy has another problem....guess this jerk does not wear underwear- and frequently shows up at the stop wearing just sweatpants, with a "problem" that he should have taken care of in the bedroom. Yet he walks around in public... Gee, aren't you glad I have more time to post today and share this nonsense? CJ- I knew you would adapt this odd shaped block to suit your crafting style! You do indeed seem to have a very well defined sense of crafting style and I feel confident will work something out that reflects your taste and great talent! Now, remember.....you have to quilt this! . I am glad you made that wonderful sounding pie for yourself. We all have to indulge sometimes, and you do sound as though you have enough will power to make it work for you and still stick to your dietary constraints. Meg, so we all know you are a kind and caring person.....and now to learn that you have a military ID? (Would love to hear that story!). Enjoy your quiet week- and I do hope that DS and Devin have a safe and fun trip. Will they call or text you while they are gone? Glad you were able to get a good deal on yarn at Michaels. How long does it usually take for the iron infusions to help you feel better? Are you heading to KnitWits today? Ruth, how did the pasta sauce come out? Glad you are almost finished with the shawl- which despite the minor issue you found in row 9, is I am sure lovely. No one but you will notice that little problem...it must look great. For some reason I thought you had already figured out which yarn to use for the infinity scarf and fingerless gloves. Oh dear, do you need to order/purchase more yarn for that? (What a hardship....indeed!). I do think the idea of a special coin in each gift is a wonderful idea. Recently, I heard of a new coin- a new special coin- but for the life of me I cannot remember what it is! I did get some work done on the hat - and I am happy to say that I now have the pattern figured out and it makes sense to me now. Of course the rest of you would have figured out all this earlier, but now I "get the stitch counts and I need the directions much less. This hat is for me- which seems rather silly as we are going to have some very warm weather this weekend. Ok, enough from me for now. I am heading next to check out that web site that CJ posts about. Have a great day! Ginny

CJ, I did indeed check out the web site with all the quilting blocks. Yes, it's so nice to see how different people interpret the pattern based upon the fabric they have on hand or are willing to purchase. Some individuals really do have an eye for color and pattern. I do enjoy looking! Ginny

I just had a long post typed and hit something and it disappeard. Ginny, I guess that man doesn't have a wife to help with the kids? I was laughing about what you said about his "problem" but then it made me wonder if there is also abuse happening in the home besides neglect. It does sound like the kids are open in their communicating though so probably not. And as far as games on the phone, maybe he's doing other things on it. I'm going to add those children to my prayer list. Ginny, I'm glad to hear you "got" the stiches and the hat is working well. You said the rest of us would have probably gotten it right away but I'm not too sure of that. Sometimes those patterns are hard to interpret. I'd love to see the pattern if it's an online one that you have a link to. When I mentioned a mistake in row 9 I meant in the pattern. You repeat row 6-9 over and over for the body of the shawl and it's actually row 8 that has the problem which makes row 9 hard but at least I was able to adjust for it and it's turning out ok. Now I haven't decided on the yarn for the scarf yet. I decide then I wonder if I need to use a different one and I sure am hoping one of the yarns I already have will work. I did look at some more yarn online yesterday though Here's the link to my shawl www.redheart.com/files/patterns/pdf/LW1698,WR1698.pdf Have a great day eveyone and Ginny, enjoy the sitting with your feet up
