People over 60 have a different metabolism than those who are younger, and weight loss gets harder as one ages. This thread is for us.
Join us! Share your ideas, your successes, your frustrations. Offer support. Get advice from folks who are on a similar journey.
Our challenge is to stay on plan, exercise and keep trying to lose weight while improving our overall health -- and maintaining a positive attitude!
Think about where you were and how you felt when you made the initial decision to join The Senior WW Challenge. Close your eyes and remember when you said to yourself “Enough is enough and I’m getting in shape!” On a scale of 1 to 10, how serious are you? You really need to be an eight or higher! If not, you should probably reevaluate your thoughts and feelings about regaining great health in your life.

Snowing like crazy this morning so another day of not going out. Will be warmer before dipping in the deep freeze for a few days.

Good morning, not sure I will have a question today, this weather has me a little crazy. Think I am heading out in a bit for preschool. Have my bath and waiting for last minute school news.
Snow last evening, then some freezing rain, then temps went up to 37 middle of night and now on way back to zero by nightfall.
So far no school delay and DGD sent message that Highway 92 is clear so just to get out of our driveway. Check in later.

Good morning!
We're overcast and cold this morning but we'll be almost 40 this afternoon. This must be the lull before the storm. We'll be in a polar vortex by mid week. Brrrrrr
I got everything cooked yesterday that I planned on taking to my friends with the new baby. I made Lemon Chicken and Rice, seasoned green beans and a Chocolate Chip Cheesecake. Everything's in disposable pans so all they'll need to do is reheat the entree and veggie in the oven. I'll call later this morning and let them know I'm dropping everything off this afternoon. That way they can eat when they want to and not have to wait on me to bring a hot meal over tonight.
I think I'll stop at the store while I'm out to pick up a few things. I also need to run to the post office.
Karen and Sandy, stay safe and warm!!

Good Morning!,
The rain has finally stopped. It is sunny but it is cold out. Tommy missed the bus so I had to get up and take him to school. I have already been for a short walk with Daisy.

Good morning, friends. I am dragging...was in bed long enough but got less than 4 hours of real sleep. Anxiety, I presume.
This cold weather is tough...for all of us, it seems.
Last night was a lovely cocktail party at the clubhouse. One of my neighbors fell at Disney World. No broken bones, possible concussion. It was just before her significant other's daughter's wedding. She is all black and blue. We commiserated about falls.
DD is driving me a bit nuts. I am having my floors sanded while I am in surgery and rehab. She asked if they could stay at my place that week to visit me and ski. Noooo. The floors will be getting done. I sent the floor people an email but I am pretty sure they will not be done until after the kids' vacation week is over. Time for some tea. I'll check back later.

Good morning friends. My sympathies to those of you experiencing cold and snow. It’s been rainy and cool and windy here. It’ll only be in the 50s today and I don’t want to leave the house. I’m such a wimp.
I too am cooking for friends today. I’m planning to make a pot of lemon orzo chicken soup for someone who’s had surgery and a neighbor who’s had a small stroke.
My itching is almost gone today. Eliminating food culprits has helped, plus slathering on cream and Rx.
After watching “Foods that cure disease” I’ve started watching a documentary on wheat. As I’ve suspected, wheat is adulterated with hybrids and chemicals. I can’t even make my own bread because the flour is the same. I’m a little bummed.

It's weigh in day and my DH and I are anticipating another loss this past week. Fingers crossed! The tip for the week from my 50 in 50 weight loss group:
"Avocados
Avocados are a nutrition powerhouse! Avocados offer nearly 20 vitamins and minerals in every serving. They contain potassium, which helps control blood pressure. They also contain lutein, which is good for your eye health. And they also contain folate, which is crucial for cell repair. Avocados are a good source of B vitamins which help you fight off disease and infection. They also give you vitamins C, and E, plus natural plant chemicals that may help prevent cancer.Avocados are low in sugar and high in fiber, and hence make you feel full faster and keep you feel full for longer time. For diabetes, this means they will not raise your blood sugars. Avocados are high in fat; however, its mono-unsaturated fat. Monounsaturated fats are good fat that help lower your bad cholesterol (LDL cholesterol). If you have never bought avocados before, they can be intimidating. At the store, to know if they are ripe, feel them. If they are soft to the touch and soft or mushy, they will need to be eaten that day. If they are firm, they will likely need to ripen. To ripen them, store them at room temperature. They can take 4-5 days to ripen. To speed up the ripening if you want to eat them sooner, put them in a paper bag along with an apple or banana. You can also tell by taking a look under the stem. At the top of the avocado, you will find a stem. If you have a hard time removing it, it's not ripe. If you remove it fairly easily and its green underneath, you have a perfectly ripened avocado! If you remove the stem and its brown underneath, it likely is over ripe and you may find many brown spots on it. While guacamole is the most popular dish with avocados, you can also puree and toss with pasta, substitute for butter and oil in your favorite baked recipes, spread or slice on to sandwiches, dice some into a salad, smash them with a little salt and pepper and spread over a slice of whole grain toast topped with a hard-boiled egg (avocado toast), or slice a few pieces on your favorite tacos. Avocados are proven to be very versatile!"

I did end up ordering a box of the bilt bars. I don't remember who suggested it. I got a mixed box and it was $32 for 16 bars but they are the size of a regular, not king size, candy bar. They are 3 points. It seems expensive but I think well worth it as it's made with real chocolate and is delicious! I will order them again. Plus they also have a sampler of six bars for $9.99 but with the bigger box shipping is free but not with the sampler. Don't mean to sound like a commercial but when I find something this good I just have to share!

Good morning.
Sharon and Vicki, so thoughtful of you cooking for others. I am sure it is appreciated.
KC, I love avocados and just bought two yesterday.
Our weather has been perfect for walking outside, in 60s and 70s, so hope I have energy to go for a walk today.
Hope you are careful if you have to drive in the snow. Stay safe.
Gail, ever since my sister fell and broke her foot a few years ago I have been careful when walking.

Good morning ladies,
I lost 1.4 this week and I have been tracking in 3 places and watching my carbs. I'm not at 100% but working on it. I am not going no carbs as I love my carbs but what I'm doing is trying not to have more than 90 grams a day. So far I think I'm doing good. As long as I keep tracking and be accountable what I eat I will be OK.
Another storm on the way and frigid cold all week. Got everything I needed so I don't need to go out this week except for TOPS tonight.
Sandy...where did you get those Bilt bars, I've checked amazon and they don't seem to have them

Good morning. I was MIA yesterday. Got up, sewed, went to mass, went straight to work, came home for dinner and crashed.
Karen E and Sandy be careful with ice and snow. I think our snow has been cancelled. We are in the 50's today and rain will start around 4. It will then drop in temp until the 20's and lower aroung midnight. Needless to say we might be facing ice, freezing rain, who knows? Certainly not the weather people. They were predicting inches of snow until yesterday. It will remain mostly in the 20's for days. I hope this is our last blast of winter. Vicki I know you are facing the same, only colder.
Sharon and Vicki I love cooking for others. I get a lot of satisfaction from giving something I made. I hope you feel the same. It is truly a gift from the heart.
Sharon My feeling about foods is that moderation is the key. You can grind oatmeal and mix with half flour, but I don't think I would avoid flour altogether. I believe if we look hard enough, we can find something negative about just about every food.
KC I love avacados and usualldy have one or two in the house.
Carolyn great weather for walking. I have the 50 and very windy but I will walk with Huey today as it will be very cold the next few days and then rain when it warms up again. No sun today, but it seems brighter and not as gray as we have had a week and more ago.
Gail good luck with the floors and upcoming surgery. You'll be fine.

Joanne if I keep my cars 90 or under I always lose weight. I agree with you that it is not healthy to cut out carbs altogether. I am a firm believer that moderation is the key to most this. If only I could follow my own advice I would be much thinner by now.
