I realize that there's a national emergency, but please try to remain calm and don't panic. The JA has it all under control from the 9th hole at Mar-a-Lago. As usual, he's on top of things. How fortunate we are to have a president who is willing to call a national emergency whether it is needed or not, and who so selflessly puts in extraordinary amounts of executive time.

The only national emergency I'm aware of is an unqualified, puffed up, ego maniacal, unhinged slimy jerk in the WH, and some republican politicians, as well as regular citizens, who wink and nod at his lack of governing skills, intellect, as well as his crude and embarrassing behavior. He's a disgrace and a puppet and so are those who blindly cheer him on. IMHO, of course.
Honestly, I'd rather he spend more time on the golf course instead of in the Oval Office.

What is the media's fascination with AOC? She's a freshman congresswoman, for Pete's sake. Personally, I am getting tired of hearing about her and having her branded as the face of the Democratic party. While she may turn out eventually to be great, right now I am not enamored.

She's a shiny new toy for the media to play with right now. Young, different, smiling, friendly and easy to approach.
This is the time for them to build her up. Get her name and her face out there. A media darling at the moment.
I wish her well because what goes up must go down and they'll be there for that too with the same gusto.
It's refreshing for me to see another face, a young and enthusiastic politican. It gives me hope. If she seeks advise from seasoned politicians, I think she will be okay.
I haven't had much hope lately. I almost forgot what it felt like. Lol.

I don't know much about Sherrod Brown, although I recently saw someone on this thread (was it luanne maybe or lani ?) mention hoping he will get into the race. He was on SOTU this morning, and I liked what he had to say. I could see myself possibly getting behind him, BUT he did not come across to me as being very charismatic and so I'm not sure he could secure the nomination. From his demeanor, I'm also not sure he could give the JA a good "fight," and someone is going to have to do that. Of course that was one short segment, so it's impossible to tell a lot about anyone from such a brief interview. It's unfortunate that we have reached a point in our political system where we have to consider charisma and ability to get down and brawl as heavily (or maybe even more heavily) than sensible policies. We've got a ways to go before the primaries, but that time will go by quickly. Come on Democrats! Get your act together! 2020 is going to be a make or break election if there ever was one.

As far as AOC and the rest: do your job and make a name for yourself by actually DOING WHAT YOU WERE ELECTED FOR. They have done nothing except make sounds bites. I honestly don't know what's worse: the old, entrenched politicians that are just lazy, or the new ones that are only interested in becoming celebrities.

Totally agree DotRen , I hear you nashville11, and I really hope the media gives equal air-time to the contenders so that they all get a chance to put forth their ideas and plans. The media has to take some responsibility for JA since they covered him almost exclusively and gave him the front-runner status through the entire process. And, with a similar kind of bullsh*t with Hillary, the media did a huge disservice to their viewers, the electorate.
I just wanted to add that I don't think AOC is a victim of the media. She seeks it out. She inserts herself into everything. She is a master of social media, as was evidenced by her unlikely rise and win back in November. She made it easy for the media to notice her.

doordie50 , I definitely agree with you, Pam. The media seems to pick a "favorite" on each side, and that's primarily all you hear about. They covered Trump incessantly, and jumped at all the outrageous comment baits he threw their way. He was smart enough to use them for free media attention, and he got it. They also clearly favored Hillary over Bernie, and kept referring to her as if she had already won. I think that turns a lot of voters off and ends up hurting a candidate more than it helps. In this case I think both Hillary and Bernie were hurt. Bernie because he didn't get enough coverage, and Hillary because everything was continuously blown all out of proportion and blasted at us 24/7. There are times when I like to hear commentators give opinions, but not 24/7 opinions. I want them to cover the candidates evenly and factually. Let the voters make up their own minds about who they want to support. I seriously doubt we'll see that happen, however. As for AOC, I agree too that she knows how to use social media and she works it. She's smart, and she's using that to keep herself in the news much the same way that Trump has. I can't blame her for being smart enough to use it to her advantage. I do blame the media for jumping on every little tidbit and blasting it around the world as if it was written in stone and handed down from Mt. Sinai. Ultimately, I think it's going to hurt her. What I really fear is that in the meantime it is going to hurt the entire Democratic party. All these potential candidates who are trying to jump on her bandwagon, would be better served (IMO) to take a breath, and study the issues before coming down for or against something. What's so wrong with saying, "I want to study that before I make a decision about whether or not I support it," or, "I support parts of it, but not other parts," etc.

This is just one more example of the media and the way in which it can direct people's perceptions in this case of a party, but could just as easily be a candidate. According to this author, "The fight over Amazon is the fight for the future of the Democratic Party." Really? I don't think that's true, but it can be made to seem that way. It seems like some people in the media are trying to force a division, when there is enough of a divide all on its own without any outside help. I don't think we have to be a party of extremes. I think we can be a party of balance, but we're going to have to work to make ourselves be seen that way. I am fearful that extreme points of view make take over in much the same way we saw this happen with the old Republican party. Now there is nothing left that remains of the GOP of either Bushes much less Reagan. I don't want that to happen to Democrats too. Some of these young progressives have some good ideas. I'm not saying throw them all out. I'm just saying we need to keep balance in mind. And we don't need media authors like this one trying to equate the party with the woes of Amazon. This is one business decision of one very large company, but it doesn't or shouldn't represent anything other than that IMO.

Happy President's Day everyone or as I've seen one meme proclaim we're celebrating 44 of our 45 presidents. Did any of you see the 60 Minutes interview with Andrew McCabe last night? It was very interesting. I know some are trying to throw a lot of doubt on him, but he came across as being very believable to me. What did you think? How embarrassing for our entire country that there was such utter silence after Pence mentions the JA at the German security conference, and then the idiot pauses and waits for applause to break out which of course never happened. These people are totally clueless! They've been attending so many MAGA rallies, that they seem to have no clue about the way the rest of the world perceives them. Then it had to be embarrassing for Ivanka when Merkel chastises the JA in her speech and huge applause happens all around her while she just sits there stoically. Remember how President Obama was received in Germany? They loved him. They have nothing but contempt for this JA, as do I. Morning Joe made some scary comments this morning about possible actions Putin may now be emboldened to take. The world is becoming more scary by the day.

Just waving a quick hello. Bernie's officially in the race. It's starting to get pretty crowded. I'll be away from a computer until around the 26th, so you girls hold down the fort here. DH and I are going on our first cruise. Hopefully the JA won't completely implode the world while we're gone. I intend to unplug and forget all about him and his lies until we get back home.
