Renee...Your friend more than likely will not believe the fact check & just consider it Fake News. It just amazes me how many gullible people are wiling to suck up so much false info. They jump in wholeheartedly to swallow every word that comes out of JA mouth but refuse to even consider something that is proven true. This College Admissions Cheating Scheme that just broke, leaves me shaking my head. What some parents, or rather rich parents are willing to do as in cheat, commit felonies just to get their kids into elite colleges is .......well, I don't even know what word to use. I guess when money is your God anything seems possible to them. The fact that so many coaches, administrators & colleges were in on it is disgusting. www.huffpost.com/entry/felicity-huffman-lori-loughlin-charged-college-admission-scheme_n_5c87c516e4b08d5b7865d04d

The trouble with crazy people is they have too much energy. It's hard to keep up.

The true believers will never stop, DotRen. If he stood in front of the world and announced it is all true. Everything I have been accused of and even far worse I actually did, they would tell themselves it was fake news and that their hero was being a martyr for the nation. They'd light candles, link arms, and stand outside his prison cell chanting Build that Wall, Lock Her Up, over and over and over again. I have really come to the conclusion that there is a large segment of our populations that is completely deranged. I don't think the JA caused this, but he sure was smart enough to recognize it and manipulate it to his advantage. It's like those young jihadists who are willing to go on suicide missions. These JA followers are every bit as brainwashed and deranged.

It is disgusting, and you have to think that if these same parents had spent half as much time encouraging their kids to do their best, making sure they did the work, teaching them discipline, etc. the kids would most likely have been able to make it in on their own merit. Instead all these kids have learned is that their parents really didn't have much faith in them, and that whenever possible you should look for the easy way out. That educators were in on it too is even worse.

Jack Kennedy was a Legacy, preceded at Harvard by his father, grandfather, and older brother. Trump and W. were no Academics The almighty dollar was there to grease the wheels. It is more the prestige and connections that the parents are looking for, the money is just a ways to a means. Get into Yale, join Skull and Bones and you are set for life. Frankly I would be more forgiving if the parents donated a Science Research Lab to the University and the Professors held the parents children accountable to keep up their grades.
Not really the worst evil in this country at this point in time.

I watched a little of a web show talking about this college scam and I loved what one of the commentators said: if your child is not smart enough to get into a college, send them to community college for a semester or two and make them earn the right to go to the school they chose. And that: for every one of these kids that bought their way in*, some kid who worked their butt off to make the grades did not get in because rich-kid took that spot.
I use the * because I do not believe these kids didn't know their parents bought their way in -not for a second. Especially the ones who: paid to have someone take their SAT's; and had fake sports profiles made up to get them in. No way these kids didn't know shenanigans were going on!

And doesn't this speak to a larger issue in this country that the rules don't apply to the rich? That if you have enough money, you can circumvent the rules the rest of us must follow? I agree with Anne in that there's a difference between donating a building to curry favor and the outright cheating that was done here. But where I differ, is that income inequality and economic fairness are right at the top of the issues of import in 2020. This case could well be ground zero for candidates that are running on leveling the playing field against the 1%. The rigging of America for the rich and powerful is out of control.

I agree. I think it is just one more symptom of so much that is wrong in our country. It's true that the very wealthy have been donating buildings, etc. for years. Also that from what I understand "legacy" students meaning kids of parents who went to a certain school have an advantage of getting in. But this seems to me to go far beyond that. Being a legacy admission at Harvard or Yale at least those schools are private. But at least one of the schools mentioned here was the University of Texas at Austin. That's a public university. It's a good school with high standards, but still public tax dollars are supporting it. So some kid who truly deserved to get in. Who played by the rules, worked their butts off to make the grades, etc. was not admitted so some rich kid who did nothing but be born into wealth got their coveted spot. And from what I read, with Lori Loughlin's daughters the girls themselves really didn't even care about what school they went to because they said they only wanted to "party."
Maybe this just especially resonated with me because it mentally took me back to my days as a struggling single parent when it was time for my DD to go to college. How is the playing field ever going to become level when the institutions themselves are corrupt? I'm far more upset with the schools that participated than with the parents themselves. And, I agree with Renee that there is no way the kids involved didn't know what was going on. You know if you took the test or not. You know if you've ever played a sport or not. Still I blame the kids the least. They were just behaving in the way they were brought up. They believe they are entitled, because all their lives they've been told they are entitled.

I was surprised at Manafort's sentence after the dressing down the judge gave him. The only explanation that I've seen is that since this is a Federal sentence and subject to Presidential pardon, it would look worse to pardon him for a light sentence. Sounds like reaching to me. He will be unable to be pardoned for the New York stuff coming up.

I hope New York throws the book at Manafort. I'm just sick of all this, "we don't have to play by the same rules as everybody else." As for the emails Cohen has, they're just plain weird. Please, please let us get through the next election and put these people and all their drama out of office and out of our lives.

Absolutely agree with you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Oldest grandson is in a 4 year University and will complete his degree in 3 years. Bright kid. #2 is a little young for his age and he is doing Community College then finish at a 4 year. Also bright but he needs more time to mature. #3 We just get out of his way,,lol Each kid is so different.
