Hi everyone. I’m enjoying this message board very much. So I just read that the JAMA (Journal of Medical Association) published research today saying 3 or more eggs a week contribute to heart disease. I wonder what this does to WW claiming it’s a zero point food, in essence encouraging members to eat them in unlimited amounts.

I had my annual exam last month and asked my NP about eggs and she said eggs were fine to eat.I'm sure she meant within reason but I told her I was eating 2 per day and she said that was fine.My bad cholesterol was slightly elevated but she said my amount of good cholesterol far outweighed my bad cholesterol. That said I'm not doing freestyle either.

Just clarifying eggs AND dietary cholesterol -not just eggs. And no, we all have the same risk of death: 100% lol I really hate studies that compare 2 people "on the same diet except for xxx" because that doesn't take their general health, fitness habits, sleep habits, genetics, ect into consideration -just the specific food. Eggs are bad – then good – then bad again? What gives? (a slightly less biased opinion)

Ha. So true! My internist, on the other hand, told me that he is finding whole egg usage reflected in higher lipid results. I haven’t read the original research, just the news article, so there maybe could be some specific circumstances, although they did emphasize the no more than 3 a week thing.

Some articles say a day, some say a week. The pro egg people are rebuking the findings. This is getting confusing. 😩

I came to a conclusion some months ago:
You did a study? Good for you. It says if I do xyz I have a greater risk of dying? That’s alarming. But, tell me, if I STOP doing xyz will you guarantee that I won’t die? Didn’t think so. In the future, Mr./Ms. Researcher, please keep your opinions and findings to yourself.
Just so sick of all this back and forth on the evils of food. What it amounts to, mostly and IMHO, is a multi-BILLION reseach industry that would evaporate if they stoped re-studying the re-studies of the re-studies of the studies that proved or disproved this or that.

Poorly designed research, uncontrolled "control" groups, falsified results, funds coming from entities with a stake in the outcome of the research--I don't have a lot of faith in news about research results. Tell me about it when it's been replicated by more studies, peer-reviewed, etc. Until then, my motto is moderation in most things is okay. Eat reasonable amounts of a wide variety of foods and UBOK.

"The entire study is based on an unreliable food frequency questionnaire given one time only with absolutely no consideration of how patients’ diets may have changed over 17 years." "Allen and her team pooled data on nearly 30,000 racially and ethnically diverse adults between 1985 and 2016. Participants were asked about their dietary habits over the last month or year in an extensive questionnaire. By the end of the follow-up period, the group had experienced 5,400 cardiovascular events and 6,132 deaths from any cause." www.cbsnews.com/news/eggs-and-cholesterol-how-many-should-you-eat-heart-disease-experts-guidance-research-study-northwestern-medicine-2019-03-15/One initial questionnaire and a then a follow-up of morbidity and mortality years later and basing cause-and-effect conclusions on the results of the follow-up? Hogwash.

At the bottom of the My Day page, there is an article entitled "Can You Eat Too Many Eggs?" The old standard for WW was no more than 4 eggs a week, red meat 3x a week, etc.

This guy may not be your cup of tea because he's a low-carb/keto advocate, but he does dive into the topics really well:

I just hate these ads on TV that tell you their product will reduce your risk of death. We all have a 100% risk of death. (Also taxes.)
