Well this is sure silly in that a post I put in hours ago has just reappeared. Interesting.
Phyl- well I hope you can find enough of the yarn you want in the color you like to finish a project. I would think between web sites and brick and mortar stores you ought to be able to find the yarn.
Ruth what I like about the granny square concept is its small enough to play with but yet large enough to see how the different layouts of colors will work. Love the idea of a baby blanket with a granny square hood attached! How cute that would be.
Meg, I am glad that you have had this week, while getting the first few infusions- to rest up and get your strength back before Ds and Devin come home. Oh, I think we all have the same intent when shopping for yarn. None of us wants to have too much yarn, but at times I forget what I have on hand, or think that a certain color will match when it does not, blah blah blah....and It's so hard to return yarn. (Not hard at all, but emotionally it's hard).
Got a little bit of work done on the hat today...and am now going to go read.
Have a great night all! Ginny

I went to Sam's Club this afternoon. I needed some splenda and I bought a big, big box which will last me forever. It was a wee bit windy otherwise it was a very nice afternoon. DGD came home from work and took off again. So I am home alone again but I don't mind because I can putter around and do what I want and not get in any ones way. I will probably knit tonight. I watched a tutorial of th granny stitch tutorial. It is done in lines. I am sure you know what I am talking about. I know how to do the stitch I just wanted to see how to do the beginning and ends of the rows. The ends of the rows is where I always run into trouble. But I am persistent and I want to learn to crochet properly.
Ruth, I didn't look at the name of the color when I bought the yarn I just liked the color. I have used that color before or one similar to it. Here is the color on the label... Creamsicle Crème D'Orange Glacee Paleme De Crema. I think Carron One Pound has it in a similar color and also Red Heart. I just love bright colors and I like working with different colors. I think this is going to be a popular color this year. I should go to Hobby Lobby some day. When I go and get my eye treatments I am very close to Hobby Lobby but after I get my eye treatments I just want to go home because my eyes are blurry.
Ginny, when it comes to giving away yarn and books I have an emotional attachment which it makes it difficult to part with them. Of course if I gave my books or yarn away I would forget about it fairly soon and they wouldn't be missed.
Phyl, I hope you will have enough yarn. Just recently I finished a b/blanket and did have enough yarn. I couldn't find what I needed anywhere so I had to use a similar yarn. I finished the b/blanket and donated it. It will keep a baby warm somewhere.
Now I am off to relax and have dinner and then I will knit or crochet.

Hello Crafters - Hope you are all doing well today. I'm glad everyone is enjoying looking at the quilt blocks and finding favorites I did read all your posts since yesterday, but I hope you'll forgive me if I don't respond directly to anyone and just say that I enjoyed catching up with you. I've been gone all day to a big quilt show in Virginia. There were some nice quilts there, but a lot of them are very artistic or modern, and I prefer a more traditional look, still it was interesting to see them all. They also had a lot of vendors and I made some good purchases. Here are some of the things I bought: - Large Cheryl Ann's Design Wall - I've been wanting one of these for years and this was a main reason for me to go to the show today - Some white and cream fat quarters - I never have enough white/cream fabric - Some needles and Aurifil Thread (I've never tried this and want to see what it's like) - Some embroidery patterns for barns and churches - Several pre-printed mini wholecloth quilt tops that are already marked and ready for quilting. I figure I can practice my hand or machine quilting on these. They all measure under 20"x20" - A Fat Quarter pack of fabrics that look like vegetables. (I already have a pack of fruit fabrics, and I want to make a Jar quilt using these.) And here's the biggest and definitely unplanned purchase - an antique/older (probably mid-20th century or maybe later) finished quilt done in pink and white fabric (only two fabrics used). It's about a queen size quilt and it was hand quilted and they said it was from Lancaster County (I'm guessing in Pennsylvania). It has 42 large 25 patch pink and white blocks laid out as 6 across and 7 down with white sashing in between. So the blocks kind of float on the quilt. There is a lot of hand quilting on it too. The backing is solid white, and the batting is fairly thin. I've always wanted to have an older quilt and I love pink and white together. It cost me $275, and my sister-in-law (who has purchased antique quilts) said this was a good price, so I bought it This is the start of the quilt show season, so I'm excited about all the quilt shows to come this year. Take care everyone.

CJ, it sounds as though you had a great day. They have quilt shows here at the fairgrounds and I think that this year I might go. I love to see quilts.I think that I mentioned that my mother's aunt used to make the most beautiful quilts I've ever seen. She once stayed at my home when she and my grandmother came to NY to attend my cousins wedding and she said she wanted to give me a gift for having her but it turned out that she bought me a laundry hamper while I was hoping for a quilt. I don't know what she ever did with her quilts or what happened to themwhen she died.
The quilt you bought sound beautiful. I'm glad you got it since you said you've been wanting one. Sometimes we have to do that..treat ourselves

Good morning, but by the time I finish this it will be good afternoon!
Phyl- sounds like you can make that yarn work into a lovely project! Happy knitting, or do you have to pick up those circular needles?
Meg-Hope that Devin and Ds travel safely and get home just fine. Enjoy the last day of peace and quiet....I am sure you missed them, but also enjoyed some quiet time too. You ought to check out Hobby Lobby. they have a wonderful home decorating section and their fabric selection for quilting is nice(as long as you are not looking for quilt shop quality). I have always found the staff there friendly and helpful. (Think the corporation insists upon it). Funny you went to Sam's for that huge Splenda- I buy the huge thing of Truvia at BJ's/
. CJ- sounds like you had a great time at the quilt show! Yes, knowing where in the world you live, Lancaster Pa is not far at all, and I would think that quilt came from there. Enjoy it! Will you display it or use it? You got lots of goodies to play with also.....have fun and keep us in the loop with all the cool stuff you do. I do know that there is a huge quilt show in Lancaster in April- but I do not think it will coincide with when Dh and I are planning to travel there.
Ruth, like you I do quilt shows at the fair grounds. I do hope that you get to attend... Your story does indeed make you wonder what happened to your mom's aunts quilts. Wow, they are assuredly antiques and I hope were not thrown out. That is why when I make a quilt (and I am NOT a master quilter) I do make a little square with my initials, , town and date- so that there is some sort of way to follow where the quilts came from.
DD is coming home this evening.....we are still in warm weather, and I am babysitting until I head back to work. It should be a busy weekend....but I hope I can finish the hat this weekend. Then I think I will move on to quilting again.
Have a lovely day! Ginny

good afternoon from snowy cold Wisconsin, we only got .o7 inches. south of town got 2.6. so we didn't get as much as other places .we are still in a Blizzard warning till 6 am sat. oh yeah ole man winter and mother nature are making up for lost time. when it is that nice in february we know something is going to happen. I would rather it came early march then late march. course april can surprise us also.
last night I found 2 lilly skeins I thought I gave delona. so I made a knitted dish cloth last night. then made another one today. they will go to the church hollyberry fair In nov. a lot of people love using those dish cloths.I do not like using them. seems like they make everything you wipe down wetter. give me the good old regular dishcloths.
now to figure out what to do with the leftover lilly yarn. I may have enough for one more. not sure how many you can get out of their small skeins.
I need the circular needle. unless I use a smaller or larger needle. I don't think my circulars are 24 inches. more like 16 inches. phyl

Meg, it sounds like you'll have plenty of splenda for awhile. My dh used to put steevia in his coffee so we have a ton of that in the house. He doesn't even use it now..just drinks the coffee plain with milk and he drinks it cold. He doesn't drink hot beverages
Phyl, it got cold here yesterday too and snowed all day. finally the snow has stopped and it's sunny but still cold. Yes here for sure we have snow in April. ONe year I was having a new roof put on, the man said he would do it in April. Well that April was esp snowy. He never actually got to it until July then i had to bug him in order to get him here. Luckily I had his written statement of cost because when he finished I was out of town and he tried to get dh to pay him more. Fortunately I had told dh were that statement was so dh showed him and told him that if he had a problem with that, he'd have to talk to me when I got home. Never heard from him after that.Anyway two years ago on Mother's day we got 12 inches of snow just one week after temp had got up to 80.
Ginny, I'm happy to hear that your daughter is coming home. Is it just for the weekend or is she having spring break or something. I know you'll have a good visit with her.
WEll I didn't get much done of the scarf last night so being that it's cold and I'm in the "apartment" I'll work on it all day or at least a lot of the day.I've been looking thru my online list of projects I plan to crochet after this scarf and I'm making a list. I have the perfect shawl pattern for the little dgd. Other dgd who will be 16 in Sept wants fingerless gloves(she even sent a pattern) and a scarf and I found the perfect scarf amd slouchy hat to go with the glove pattern. The little dgd that wants the shawl will be only 6 in August so it will be a small shawl
Have a great day everyone and remember...take time to enjoy

Hi everyone, I just got home from Knit Wits where I had a very productive afternoon chatting and knitting. The sun is shining here but it is chilly. I guess they are having more snow up in the Sierras. They have had a lot of snow this year which means we will have lots of water in the summer. Last evening I worked on doing a sampler of my granny stitch stripes.. I did ok but I need to make sure that I get the ends of the rows straight. It's just rows of the stitch you use when making granny squares instead you make rows I have seen pictures of finished afghans and they look really nice.. I will probably spend some more time this evening just to make sure I am doing it correctly. Last evening I found the pattern of the afghans that using the chevron stitch. I really liked that pattern. I was able to keep my edges straight so I may use it to make a b/blanket.
The boys will be home later this evening so I will make the most of my free time before they get here. It has been nice having a free week but it will be nice to see them come home again.
Ginny, have a nice mother daughter weekend. The problem with having too much yarn is that I don't remember what I have and it is packed away and I have to pull the boxes out of my bedroom closet.
Ruth, I will probably never have to buy Splenda again. I don't use very much of it every day. I get sugar free apple sauce to have with my cream of wheat and for my occasional cup of coffee. Cream of Wheat and apple sauce is my comfort food.
Phyl, where do you live. is it Iowa? Stay home and keep warm.
cj, hope all is well with you today.
This evening I will do some needle work and read or listen I should say.
Have a good evening and stay warm.

What a long day....and I am tired!
Dd is coming home just for the weekend... She will probably not be home next weekend then. Not sure.
Meg, glad you got to knit wits-. I love cream of wheat too! My week days are too rushed but I do enjoy it on weekends. Enjoy getting your family back home.
Ruth- it's impressive that you have your projects all figured out! What is next for you? Sounds like birthday gifts!
Phyl- I love the dishcloths made from crochet cotton! Yes, they hold a lot of water but they are so pretty and are washable. How large are your dish towels?
Ok, I am really tired and am going to read.
Good night all Ginny

Hello Crafters - Hope you are all well today and ready for the weekend I didn't get any crafting done today, but I did put away all my purchases from the Quilt Show. I'm hoping to work on my Lone Star quilt this weekend and maybe something I bought at the quilt show. Take care everyone!

Meg, I like the granny stripe blankets. As long as you make sure to get the first and the real last stitch in each row things should be fine.I did look up the bamboo stitch you talked about but kept forgetting to mention that. I'd like to try it sometime but it's more like knitting, I like a lot of stitches , like the tunisian stitch and crocodile stitch and I want to get better at chainless foundation stitches but I've been so busy making things that I haven't got to that yet. I also have a LOT of crohooks that my dil gave me that belonged to her mother. I've wanted to learn more about how to use them. So far I've only made dishcloths with them. I do waste a lot of time that I could be using for those things but you know how it is. You get kind of tired of doing the same type thing even if it is somewhat different. Right now I do have a huge list of things I want to do
Phyl, if only you lived nearer I could lend you the circular needles you need. I think I have about every size and length.I have a lot that I'll never use of straight needles because I'm never going to make anything on size 2 and 3 and the other small ones. I may even have small ones in circulars but I'm not sure of that. Small ones is not what you want anyway for your blanket otherwise I'd be glad to send them to you.And I know you don't want straight ones

Ginny and CJ, I didn't see you there when I started my message. Only Meg was there. I love cream of wheat too but now I can't eat it since my gluten problem was discovered so I'm thinking of getting some cream of rice but I keep forgetting to put it on my shopping list. Ginny, I think I said it already but have a great time with your daughter. CJ, It's nice that you got everything put away. It usually takes me awhile to get everything put where it should be after I shop.Great job I've been crocheting almost all day so far and will get back to it now. This scarf is supposed to have 20 rows but that seems like a lot to me.I think the yarn I have will make about 14 or 15 and I think that will be enough. I was thinking of using another color for a couple rows in the middle between skeins but I don't think I will. And I've decided I'm going to make this same scarf for my dd for her bday but I might try double crochets instead of trebles. Here's the link if you want to see it and it's so easy if you like it and want to make one. They claim is warm as well as decorative if you double it byjennidesigns.blogspot.com/2015/11/free-crochet-pattern-chains-and-trebles.html?spref=pi

Ruth, here is the bamboo stitch ( you knit it)
Multiples of 2 ROW 1 ; *YO; knit 2, pass YO K2; rep from * to end
Row 2 ; Purl rep these 2 rows.
I was just curious to see what it looked like. Some day I may make something with it.
lik the look of the granny s trip blanket an did a sample last night I hope I can keep the ends straight. That's where I always run into trouble. I will have to go to UTube again and keep trying.
DGD has been checking on DSs flight and they have been delayed somewhere I think at Vegas so it will be really late when they get in. I used to buy cream of rice cereal and I liked it.
Phyl, I think people either love the knit/croche'd dish cloths and I did make some but I found them too thick. I did make some for a man at church he really liked them.
Ginny, my week if peace and quiet is coming to an end. It will be really late when they arrive at Sac airport. DGD will go and pick them up.
You all have a good night and keep warm.
cj, enjoy your quilting weekend
