Good afternoon!
Meg, by now Ds and Devin are home- it's too bad that their flight was delayed a little. Glad DGD is picking them up- so that you do not have to do that. Airports are busy and hectic. ANd I hope you enjoyed the quiet week!
Phyl- good for you getting those circular needles. Congrats on your weight loss!!
Ruth, I did check out the granny stripe patterns- very interesting! Many follow interesting color choices- typical of granny squares. The scarf pattern is beautiful- and I really like that you can double it for warmth or wear it single for the airy look. Very pretty.
I slept poorly last night. Finished my book- so no crochetting time in at all. Dd and I hiked a bit of the Appalachian trail this morning- views were so pretty.
Hope everyone is enjoying their Saturday. Ginny

Meg, that sounds like a different bamboo stitch than the one I saw. I think it would be really pretty. I might someday do that one too. I'll add it to my list.
Phyl, I'm glad to hear that you got the knitting needles you needed and yes, I think we all have all sizes of needles and hooks but when we start a certain project we don't have the one we need for that one and have to add to our collection
Meg, I do like the diagonal knit dishcloths but, as you said, the crochet ones are just too thick.
I hope you are all having a good weekend. Hello also to Ginny and Cj and those "viewing" this thread

DS and Devin are home. They got here about 1 a.m. this morning. I fell asleep while waiting for them and didn't hear them come in. They had a great time and Devin would like to go again. Which he will no doubt when I or his Mom can take him. Devin is a very friendly kid and he talks to everyone. On the plane he was talking to all the flight crew and passengers. Devin has spent most of his life with grown ups and he thinks he is a grown up as well. Anyway back to school next week and time to settle down.
I spent most of last evening looking at web sites trying to find a pattern for the granny stripes afghan. There are lots of pictures of them and some I would have loved to copy the pattern but they make it so difficult to print out a free patter or even one you pay for, Anyway while I was sorting through some patterns this morning I found one I had printed out ages ago. Mainly I need to know how to start and finish each row. I know how to do the rest of it. I would also like to make an afghan using the V stitch which also can be worked in rows of different colors.
Phyl, congratulations on your weight loss also finding the needles you were looking for. A few years ago when I had a 40% off coupon I bought a set of the needles you can change the needles with different cable lengths. They were expensive but with the coupon I got them almost 1/2 price. They are handy to have but I prefer my bamboo needles.
Ginny, I think that the granny stripes would be a good way to use up odd balls of yarn just like the granny squares. I do know how to make the granny squares. I am really trying to improve my crocheting skills. Sorry you didn't sleep well last night. How nice that you and DD enjoyed a hike this morning.
Ruth, I think I knit the dish cloths I made. I like to be able to wring the water out of my dish cloths and my knit cloths didn't quite make it. I find that people either love them or hate them. It is sunny here today but I am feeling cold. I don't have anything planned for today so I will probably read or crochet or knit.
cj, hope we hear from you later. Have a great day.

Ginny, we must have been typing at the same time because your message wasn't there when I looked last. I'm sorry you had such a bad night's sleep. I hope tonight will be better
Meg, it's great to hear that the guys got home ok. Devin seems like such a great boy. When you talk about him it reminds me of my son and his oldest son...both so polite and good in company of adults.
Phyl, I thought the dishcoths were probably 8 inches. I crocheted some about a year ago that ended up 8 inches but when I washed them they shrunk. That had never happened before. I always forget and put fabric softener in my towels and dishcloths so they never end up being very absorbent. I need to get some real wool and make some of those wool balls that I think were mentioned on another thread.
I still haven't crocheted yet today but just got out the scarf and second skein of yarn and am about to start on it and probably dh will wake up just when I start and that will put it off for awhile while we visit.

Hello Crafters - Sounds like you've all been busy this weekend I enjoy reading about all your projects. Ginny - How nice to get to go for a hike, I bet the fresh air was wonderful. Meg - I'm glad your family made it home safely. I worked on some quilt tops today. I had bought this panel at the quilt show on Thursday: www.fabric.com/buy/0512258/timeless-treasures-beach-haven-beach-scenic-23-panel-beachSo I just put a small two inch border on it using some beige colored fabric that has seashells in a blue that matches the sky in this panel. I also picked out some fabrics to work on another quiltalong that I signed up for. This one only has 9 blocks that are 16 1/2 inches by 16 1/2 inches and only use 4 fabrics, so I had enough fabrics to participate. I pressed all the fabric so I'm ready to start with the first block that came out this week. Here's a link to the page about it: go.nationalquilterscircle.com/A7154/ - if you scroll down you can see the quilt in gray, pink and blues. I'm using white, dark pink, light pink, and blue. And then when I was looking through my fabric, I saw a small piece of one that is a pretty floral in pinks/blues/greens and decided I would cut it up into 6 inch blocks and I also cut some blue fabric and pink fabric in 6 inch blocks and I'm going to make a small quilt with 6 down and 6 across - so it will be a little smaller than 36x36 inches. It was fun to do this today, but of course I should have been working on my Lone Star quilt

Ruth, Devin is far from being the perfect child but he gets along with adults. A few weeks ago Devin was invited for a play date by the mother of a child in his class. I haven't seen or talked to the mother since and I had intended to invite her son here for a play date. Just today I learned that while Devin was at their house he opened the refrigerator so he will not be invited back and the other little boy will not be allowed to come here. Now I do not want Devin making himself too much at home in other peoples houses and going into their refrigerators or opening drawers or anything like that. It is something he needs to learn and I haven't seen him do anything like that. I feel the mother should have explained what her house rules were. I would at my house if a child not my own were getting into places where he shouldn't be. I have always taught my kids not to touch anything that is not theirs. I just thought the whole situation odd.

Meg, no child is perfect but Devin does sound like he's well behaved. My son too spent most of his time with adults. Yes that mother should have explained what the rules are and who would think to teach a child not to go in the refrigerator in other people's homes. It's something we would never do but don't think to tell children. And it's not a horrible thing to do so that mother was being very over dramatic. All she had to do is tell him that the fridge and drawers are off limits.
CJ it does sound like you had a good day working on fabrics and blocks. There's other days to work on the lonestar.
Strange thing happened. I do have a facebook account even though I don't participate and I just went there to see if any family had anything to say and you remember how I said I was going to do granny square blankets with hood? Well there was a message posted with a pic of that very thing with a pattern. Not that most people would need a pattern for a large granny square but directions for the hood are helpful

Good morning!
Meg, think I agree that everyone has their own house rules- and that the response to Devin going in someone's fridge sounds a little bit dramatic. That's too bad...I do remember my kids having friends that I needed a little more attention than others....but once they learned the rules it went ok. Devin sounds like a great kid-perhaps because he is with adults a lot he responds more with the confidence of an adult. So glad he had a nice time inFlorida! (I love Disneyworld!). Dd just woke up....will be back later on Ginny

Back from church-
Ruth, if that was a banner ad on facebook that you saw, you were "data mined"- and it was no accident. Like at the bottom of the screen for this site I have an ad for Craftsy- becasue I look there at quilt kits. Glad you got diredtions for the granny square hood...I have done granny square Christmas stockings....it's all in the folding or it you make half grannies.
MEg- granny squares are easy- and so portable.
CJ- wow you are sure busy with all your quilting endeavors! I will check out your beach scene later, are you making a wall hanging from it?
Got a few minutes of work done on the hat. Dd delivered the baby afghan today think the young mom was surprised that I was able to make such a thing.
Well today is30 degrees cooler than yesterday- and it flurried briefly this morning.
Hope everyone has a good day! Hi to Phyl- who must be happily working with her new circular needles. Ginny

Hello Crafters - Hope you are enjoying your Sunday meg - I think that was an extreme response from that mother! She could have just explained that she doesn't allow that in her house. Ruth - Glad you found your pattern Ginny - I would just make a wallhanging of the panel quilt. It's cold here today too, such a shock after the mild/warm weather. Glad you found some time to work on your hat. I finished putting together the quilt with the floral, pink and blue fabric that I had cut the blocks out for yesterday. It was just and easy strip piecing project but fun to use the fabric. Otherwise, I haven't done anything today Take care everyone!

Ginny, yes they do data mine me a lot but this was on my newsfeed. A couple groups send me pictures every day of different crochet projects with patterns. Sometimes it's just a video. I don't know how anyone could crochet something while watching a video. You woud have to pause it a lot. I do like the patterns though and add some to my files to make in the future. I'll read how they say to add the hood.
I bet that young woman loved the gift Ginny. A handmade gift is so special. I know there are some people that think you went the cheaper route when they get a handmade gift but that is just so not true. It's a true gift of the heart.
I'm going to really work on the scarf today. I forgot compltley about the fingerless gloves that my dd's friend wanted but they'll still wait till I get a couple other things done first. I'll put them on my list so that I remember.
CJ, I know your wall hangings are beautiful. I should try making some of those. I want to change my walls...paint and get new thinngs to hang
Meg, I've never been to Disneyworld but have been to Disneyland in CA but it was back in 1969.
Phyl, I hope you're having a good day too.

Hey guys, just wanted to let you know we have a new crafting board! I just wanted to reassure you I am absolutely not touching this thread, you guys are free to have it wherever you want, if you want to put it on the new board that is fine too. itsrad and I thought it would be nice to have a crafting board more visible, since we assume there are tons of crafters around so we thought we would try one out on its own board with more visibility. *ETA forgot to mention, if you guys want to meet up on the new board just let me know and I can move the thread over there for you

I'm the newbie here so I'll leave it to the others. I'm happy with it either way. I know there was one woman who we told how to get here but she couldn't find us. On a crafting board we'd be more visible and people could have their own threads according to what craft they do and their age group right? I love this particular thread and I do think that wherever it is it would probably remain mostly the "older" crafters...knitting, crocheting, quilting. The young lady that inquired that you're referring to didn't stop in so I'd guess we must have been too old for her.

Don't take that personally gramma15! I think she was looking for the group she used to post with on the old WWMB's to reconnect with her friends, you know how close groups get
