"National Sticky Bun Day is observed annually on February 21st. Originally known as “schnecken” and still considered to be a Philadelphia specialty, it is believed that the sticky bun’s origin in the United States began in the 18th century when the German settlers brought baking tradition with them when they began settling near Pennsylvania. Most often served for breakfast or as a dessert, sticky buns consist of rolled pieces of leavened dough that often contain brown sugar and sometimes cinnamon. Before the dough is placed in the pan, the pan is lined with sticky sweet ingredients such as maple syrup, honey, nuts, sugar and butter. When the buns are finished baking, they are then flipped upside down so that the sticky bottom becomes the topping. Famous cousins to the sticky bun are the cinnamon roll, caramel roll and monkey bread." www.nationaldaycalendar.com/national-sticky-bun-day-february-21/I can honestly say I am like a Pavlovian dog when I am in a mall and smell a Cinnabon. *sigh*

Oh yeh, they are evil. I know them well. I grew up not too far from Philadelphia. Not only were they in every bakery (really delicious ones), but my mother was an expert at making them too. I guess the last time I had them was when my brother made them. I personally have never made them. To those that might not be in the know, sticky buns are not the same as the cinnamon buns you'd get from a Cinnabon. They are made differently. Both are evil though.

Philadelphia is known for sticky buns. I think the recipe for the original ones is from the Amish. Saw a food porn show on CNN &a they were showing where certain foods originated, I.e., the hamburger first served @ Delmonico's steak restaurant in NYC. I love sticky buns & cinnamon buns...pure sugar & fat, apply directly to belly.

Why didn't I believe you the warning? I knew it couldn't be chocolate mint day two days in a row. Shaking her head and remembering I don't need a sticky bun.
