Hello everyone! Evidently things are tightening up in Iowa and both Warren and Mayor Pete are closing in on Bernie. I think that's probably a good thing even though personally I like Bernie. Still he worries me with calling himself a socialist even a democratic socialist, and also I wish he would stop talking about revolutions. I just don't think those things go over well with ordinary people in a large part of the country. Mayor Pete is very good, but I'm just not sure he's ready for "prime time" although anyone could do better than what we have now, and this guy is super smart and well spoken plus he has government experience even though at the city level and he's served in the military. He definitely has a bright future ahead. I like that EW is coming on strong. I was afraid very early on that she had already shot herself in the foot with the Indian heritage and wouldn't recover, but clearly I was wrong about that. So go EW!
As for yesterday's party at my house, it turned out just great! Even the weather cooperated and the rain held off until last night. It was a lot of work, but it was thoroughly enjoyed by all including me. Could not have asked for it to have gone any better.

In the beginning, when this jerk was selected, I had a difficult time being ashamed to be an American. I have to admit, as time goes by, I'm getting the hang of it.
I'm happy to hear you had a fun birthday celebration, Joyce. You deserved it, Sistah!

nashville11 , so glad the party was great, and you enjoyed it too!! birdgal , thanks for the sweet compliment about being a good friend. My BBF used to be my next door neighbor but now we live an hour apart. Our friendship has changed with the changes she's encountered with her health. Mentally she's a little off, but just a little usually. She hasn't driven in years so I go to her house to visit. And now for the past few months, she's had home health aides there 24/7. So not so much privacy to even chat on the phone. I need to go see her one of these days, but currently my DH is having health issues so I'm torn about leaving him very much. Onward and upward..... smile

I agree that there should be a law passed that puts a cap on the amount of money a president can just blow doing things like playing golf, schlepping his grown adult children around the world, etc. After a certain limit, he has to pay for it himself. It's ridiculous how this president has taken advantage of his position in every conceivable way. And now that he has done this and gotten away with it, there's no reason to think others might not do it in the future or that this one will even get worse before he's out of office. And every time he does it with the golfing, he's actually making money off the taxpayer because we are paying for him to go to his OWN golf club. He's the biggest con man that ever lived, and the American people are evidently the biggest rubes.
It's pretty bad when even Fox "News" and Laura Ingraham have to call you out on lying.

I had a difficult time being ashamed to be an American Nothing to be ashamed about. We didn't vote for him and we are in the resistance. I agree about our standing in the world, though.

Welcome to a new week with the same old political mess. Sometimes it all just feels like you're trapped in one of those escape rooms and can't find the door out. It's all just mentally exhausting, and if you're like me you are just sick and tired of it all. I just want it to be over. I can hardly wait until we get seriously into the primaries. At least then maybe I will feel that there's a possibility in sight for some progress. Right now it's just all depressing.

I am ready for the 2 debates June 26 and June 27. I hope EW does well. I am starting to prefer her which I never thought I would do.

amyrs, it's interesting how our views about candidates change as campaigns progress. I guess that's the beauty of having a democratic election process. We're able to have a choice that could end up being a completely different choice than the one we thought we were "certain" about. I'm also looking forward to the debates. It's unfortunate that we can't have all candidates on the stage together, but with so many candidates I can see how that would be totally unmanageable. I hope we'll actually be able to hear substantive answers.

Linda, the more I see of Mayor Pete the more I like him. He seems to be the real deal. If you were ever a fan of the TV show West Wing (which I admit to being a West Wing addict) there is a scene in one of the episodes where Josh is trying to get Sam to sign on at the very beginning of the Bartlett campaign, and Josh tells Sam that Bartlett is the "real deal." The same goes for Mayor Pete, IMO.

It is shameful that even a question about providing fully for these first responders exists. The nation owes them.
