The baby Trump balloon does have a permit to be there, but it cannot be filled with helium. So, basically, it really won't be flying high. But I certainly hope its visible enough for lots to see. Honestly, I'm not sure if I will watch or not. Curiosity killed the cat, & I'm that cat sometimes...LOL I hope tho, the Mall & surrounding area is not filled with crowds. Usually, the 4th in DC is hot & humid, but I see rain is forecast. I hope it rains on his parade. Of course the Park Service is going to suffer from the price of this parade.
The Border situation is just getting worse & worse ....SHAMEFUL! I'm not sure the Border Patrol investigating themselves is the right thing to do.
We will be having a very quiet day here too. Which is fine with me.

nashville11, I agree. When he demanded tanks for the "show" it reminds me how much like a dictator he sees himself. Too many old news reels of Germany show the tank procession as a show of force/strength/control.

I'm disappointed that the Baby Trump balloon won't be filled with helium. Going to go do a rain dance for DC tomorrow right now. I hope it comes a monsoon just as it's about to begin. Always before 4th of July celebrations have brought me feelings of pride in our country. I love the music and seeing the fireworks. Not so with this fiasco. All I feel is shame and disgust at what he is doing. Linda, I also don't think having the Border Patrol investigate themselves sounds like a good idea. Didn't I hear last night on hardball that a large number of the border patrol agents are members of that secret FB page that is so disgusting? I'm sure there are probably many good agents too. In fact, I've also heard about some using their own money to buy food and clothes for some of the immigrants. It's easy to go overboard with blame, and I don't want to do that. It's like with the police. There are many, many good ones, but some bad apples can make people distrustful of them all. The bad ones though are disgusting, and the people like John Kelly making money off the suffering of these poor immigrants just make me want to throw up. Interestingly, at least to me , I posted that same meme of the Statue of Liberty on FB. Several people liked it. Among those people were 2 card carrying Trump supporters who totally support what he is doing at the border. Are these people so stupid they don't even see the disconnect between what Emma Lazarus wrote and what is happening now on our border? Apparently so.

It's sickening to see images of kids in cages and tanks in DC on the eve of the national holiday celebrating freedom. Feels like everyone's gone batsh!t crazy.
On a cheerier note, we're heading for the coast and boating with family and friends. They're having a big fireworks display on the water - should be amazing. Hope everyone enjoys the holiday weekend.

Let the Rain Dance begin...ND, TN, TX, WI, PA, CA, NM and all the rest of the posters states I don't know....Never know, it just may help...:-) LOL
How's it done?
Wear turquoise and feathers, if you have any. Many Native American tribes associate turquoise with rain and feathers with the wind. Put on any turquoise-colored clothing that you may have and turquoise jewelry. If you have access to any bird or decorative feathers, place a couple in your hair or secure them to a hat and wear them during the rain dance. Find an outdoor space where you have plenty of room to move around. Choose a space that has sparse or no tree cover so that you have a clear view of the sky. The terrain of the space you choose should be relatively flat, which will make it easier to perform the rain dance. Spin around in circles. Begin spinning clockwise at a slow and steady pace. Chant your own simple rain chant as you spin. Your chant can be something as simple as the word "rain" repeated over and over or an entire phrase, such as "Come down rain." Raise your hands to the sky occasionally to urge the rain to fall. Speed up your spinning and chanting. The longer you spin and chant the faster you should spin and chant. Close your eyes as you dance and breathe in deeply between chants. When you want to end the dance, drop to your knees in silence. Stay on your knees until any dizziness you feel goes away and you can regain your balance. We desperately need the rain... Let's dance!.......I googled this...:-)
Think of all the calories we would be burning...LOL

Pat...I googled the Rain Dance directions...Altho, here in ND, several tribes still have huge Pow Wow's & dancing. Very colorful. Actually, if I remember correctly, President Obama came to one that was on the Standing Rock Reservation when he was President.

Yay Linda! Thanks for the directions. I'm going to go look in my closet for something turquoise and try to find some feathers. Now that we know how to do it surely we can make this happen. Pam, enjoy your celebration with family and friends! Pat, I read a blog post yesterday from a friend who is an evangelical christian speaking out against these atrocities. I think you would have enjoyed reading it too. She along with many others will be marching in Nashville about this next week. There are many christians, evangelical and other denominations, who are speaking out against this. Who are standing up to be counted. The problem is that there's just not enough, and it's easy to miss their voices in the clatter and shock of the things we are learning in the news each day. But just like with border patrol agents and police officers, not all who profess to be christians can be lumped together. But then I know you already know that. You're just like me--angry, frustrated, and feeling helpless to bring about any real change. I hear you sister! Speaking of border patrol agents, this blog post is written by a former border patrol agent. It was shared with me by the same friend I mentioned above. I warn you all though that if you read this there is a very big chance you may feel tears rolling down your face. At least that's what happened to me. www.southernborder.org/she_asked_do_they_take_babies_away_from_mothers_in_the_us_heres_what_i_said?fbclid=IwAR2751Ec3lSCG8AY1sGMMwGH6wP-fN0yO1N_w8boaPJayey_9IhnTRmXv8Y

Fourth of July celebrating -
We had our annual party this past Saturday. We like to have it on the weekend to accommodate any of our friends, and family, that are still working. Dh grills up steak, brats and chicken and everyone else brings food, so we always have plenty. It was a lot of fun.
On the Fourth we'll go to the Pancakes on the Plaza event sponsored by the Rotary. We've gone every year since we moved here. Pancakes (of course) are served, the local volunteer concert band performs, there is a mini car show, and lots of other stuff going on. A really community oriented event. There are also fireworks in the evening, but we usually don't go watch those. I will NOT be watching the farce going on in D.C. either.
I know the primary, and the election, are still a long way off, but at this point I'm discouraged. I have this horrible feeling that the Democrats (and those who oppose Trump) aren't going to unite behind a candidate and we'll end up with four more years of Trump. I don't think as a nation we can survive that. I will get behind whoever the Democratic nominee ends up being, only because I despise Trump so much.

luanne, sounds like a fun celebration! I'm with you on being truly scared that we could see Trump re-elected, and like you I don't think our nation can survive that and ever be made whole again.

Happy 4th of July! Hope you are all somewhere having fun. And let's all hope that on July 4, 2021 we are celebrating the start of a return to normalcy and the values our country once stood for. Yay for Congressman Amash for having the courage to leave the Republican party! I heard a little speculation this morning that he might be considering a run for the Presidency as a Libertarian or Independent. Either way, if he does he might siphon some votes off from the JA. He (we all know who HE is) seems to be digging in about the citizenship question on the census. He doesn't care what the SCOTUS said, and personally I don't think he really cares about the census or what questions are on it. He just wants to keep chaos stirred up, and it makes his xenophobic base stay riled up and believing he's actually doing something. Neither him or his base even know the purpose of the census, and frankly neither of them care. They just enjoy hate.

Oh, I think I totally cares about the census. Someone must have explained to him that asking the citizenship question will keep many latino residents from participating. Federal resources are distributed according to the population in the census. So his favorites states, like mine, California, can have their budgets cut. It also affects the number of House representatives, I believe. So it's a big deal.

I was wondering what would happen "if" the question about citizenship was included but people (even legal citizens) opted not to answer that question. Looks like we would still be counted.
