It's good that we'd still be counted, and if it has that question I will skip it, but unfortunately a lot of Hispanics and other immigrant groups as well will likely simply not participate in the census at all whether here legally or not. As we have said on this thread at least a million times and now a million and one, how can Republicans who have always tried to present themselves as strongly standing for the Constitution totally throw it out the window without a second glance to follow Trump?
"We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness." . . . Unfortunately they don't seem to be self-evident anymore.

That is the intent and hope of the administration in trying to add the question. I think getting a citizenship question on the census would be a win/win for the administration. They will either/or identity undocumented immigrants, or under count the population.

Linda, thanks for the rain dance instructions! Sounds like his supporters are sticking it out, rain or not. I guess we know they're not the brightest bulbs in the box. Too dumb to come in out of the rain. I'm just wondering how Donnie staying dry. He's still speaking.

On PBS t the lawn in fun of the Caloitol they had the regular July 4th celebration. It ws good with fireworks after.

Hope you all had a good celebration for the 4th however you spent it. Ours was quiet and typically very hot and humid, but nice just the same with only the 2 of us. I didn't watch any of the events on TV, but some neighbors were shooting fireworks and they were really pretty and could be viewed through my window while I stayed inside with the AC. From all accounts the JA amazingly did not make his speech as partisan as he normally does. I suppose that's a good thing, however, there's no denying that the whole event was intended as a campaign extravaganza for him whether he specifically said that in his speech or not. At least it's behind us now, and while he may get a boost for the moment from it there is still a long time until November 2020. Kamala still seems to be coming on strong, and Biden is losing some ground. But again we've got a long way to go before the election. I expect there will be lots of ups and downs for all the major candidates before one finally rises to the top. At least we have some strong candidates in the running so may the best candidate win.

JA speech was ....YAWN!...Most commentators described it as an "8th grade history lesson" or "Schoolhouse Rock"...apt descriptions . What a waste of money! I'm sure today, JA will be back to his usual obnoxious tweeting self.
We spent a quiet day here too. It rained off & on.

Huff Post...Democratic 2020 candidate Joe Biden poured cold water on the claim that he is intimidated by President Donald Trump in an interview with Chris Cuomo that aired on CNN’s “New Day” Friday. “You walk behind me in a debate, come here man,” the former vice president told Cuomo, with his fists bunched up, in an apparent reference to Trump lurking behind his then-Democratic rival Hillary Clinton in one of the televised 2016 debates.
IMHO, that kind of talk turns me off. I start envisioning a P'ing contest between two old guys. I hope Biden puts that kind of talk to the side & just concentrates on the issues, etc. To me, comments like he made to Cumo, is just getting down into the mud with JA, who loves this kind of talk. I saw parts of this interview & for the most part, Biden was sensible & on issue. To think we are just at the beginning of a very long presidential race is mentally exhausting to think about. I hope by the next debate, the field is cut dramatically.

We had a good Independence Day at our family cottage, which is now in the hands of our daughter and son-in-law; our 2 sons weren't interested. Nice to not have the work of upkeep but still be able to enjoy the place. I think it has 30' of waterfront, but the pond/lake is pristine and quiet. We face west and half of the land bordering the lake is just woods so that's mostly what we see, and the gorgeous sunsets. People shoot off fireworks every 4th. Illegal in CT but never enforced. Some people "around the corner" from us had the most spectacular, continuous display of awesome fireworks I have ever seen, including public displays. Very hot and humid, but the water was refreshing! We may be back there every day this weekend - it's only 10 minutes away. I had to laugh about Trump having trouble reading the teleprompter and saying something about our army taking over airports as he was talking about the Revolutionary War. Some very funny retorts on Twitter to that! Linda, I agree with you about Biden's aggressive talk about Trump walking behind him being a turn-off, like they are both bullies. Geez, don't stoop to his level!! Conniefromct, the cottage sounds cozy and peaceful. It's nice to have a place to go for some much needed R&R. I'm glad you had a good time.
I love the fireworks but I despise the LOUD noise! It has always frightened my pets especially when we had dogs. It scares the wildlife too especially the youngsters. Why do people have to be so noisy?
Fireworks are also illegal here in NY but that's never stopped anybody. When I was a teenager my friend's dad was a cop. He would confiscate fireworks from people, tell his daughter to have all her friends meet on our stoop around dusk. We lived in Queens across the street from the school. We'd be treated to a very special display of fireworks. The ice cream man would be there and we had a coke machine in our yard.
That is still one of my favorite memories. So fun. [br
It sounds like your cottage might be one of your favorite places on Earth to make meaningful memories. Enjoy!

That sounds like so much fun, and definitely something that would be most likely to occur in a city as opposed to the tiny little town where I grew up. Interesting how childhoods differ and yet in many ways still have so much in common no matter where you grew up. As for fireworks, I love to watch them but yes, they are very noisy sometimes. They're not illegal in the state of Tennessee, but they are illegal in most cities in TN including my city. But on the 4th that's never enforced, or at least I've never known of it to be. Like all of you I had to chuckle when I read about the army taking over the airports in the Revolutionary War. The man just can not give a speech even when he's really trying. I didn't hear him, but I have heard others say he read it off the teleprompter in a flat monotone voice. And the thing about Marianne Williamson editing herself into a Vogue picture of women running for president just sounded kind of pathetic to me. I hope she's not any of your favorite candidate. Don't want to offend anyone, and truthfully I know next to nothing about her. But I don't see how she could possibly have a chance, and I think she must know that so it just seems like a lot of self-promotion to me maybe to boost book sales, and that kind of thing really leaves me cold and reeks of the buffoon we have in office now.
