Think it was 12 degrees when I left for work this am....now it's a heat wave of 19. Cold!
Ruth, I am glad you have found yet another hat pattern-gives you lots of options. I agree, too much slouch is not attractive, and I think I somehow fall in the middle with what I think looks nice. I tried the hat on last night and decided I will add 3 more rows, then the final row and pompom and be done with it. It's for a young lady I am mentoring at my church- we are not supposed to buy gifts-but I had this yarn here and I figure making something is ok.

Good morning Ginny, thanks for getting us going for the week I have been really busy the past 2 weeks and today I am tired ands plan on having a lazy day. Yesterday I didn't go to church but I have been leading a group after church and I had to go and do that. Then in the afternoon we had a few friends here and celebrated Christmas with them. Too much food and most of it we will save for Christmas day. This week should be easier as most of my Christmas stuff has been done.
I was able to do some knitting last evening and listen to an audio book.. A few more knitting sessions and it will be finished. I rarely ever drink coffee but I just had a cup to waken me up.
I wish you a day filled with peace & joy.

Hi all. I had internet problems this morning which might have been related to this horrible wind. It's actually "warm" here today...temp is now 30 and was only supposed to get up to 18 but, as I said, the wind is unbelievable. It even blew over a semi driving on out drive tht goes around the town which is a dumb place to drive when wind is blowing. Blowovers happen all the time here
Since I couldn't get online I made another hat this morning. Ginny, I don't have the good sense to try the hats on before I tie off the yarn. I know I could untie and make more rows but I didn't so some of the hats have less slouch than i really wanted but it will work ok anyway. I do have a lot of hat patterns that I downloaded and alwasy look for more. The one you sent me is going to be one of my favorites to make and I'll experiment with the amount of slouch. Now that I have a hat made for everyone I'm just going to make a bunch of different one the rest of this week. I was even thinking of taking a bunch of them over to dd's house on Christmas and telling everyone they can feel free to trade hats or here is a pile of others they can trade for. Then after Christmas I can take the extras to the shelter. This afternoon I'm making one using your pattern and wool ease yarn. I think it will drape nicely with a little more slouch than I gave the ones made with the Red Heart Heads Up yarn. It's a bulky yarn. I don't like it either. It's. like all other yarns, made with many "thread" in the strand and in this yarn the strands keep coming apart. Evidentally they didn't wind it correctly or whatever they do to make the strands from the fibers. It also has a lot of knots and there's only 90 yards in a skein so..they can't make 90 yards without several knots in the skein?
Have you seen the patterns for the "messy bun" hats? I'm thinking of making some of those to take over too.In five days I should be able to get a bunch of hats done although I do have to wrap presents too... oh and all the hats still need to have ends woven in. I usually crochet them in as I go when I change colors but I missed some this time and of course we always have the ending yarn to weave.
Well back to hat making. Wish I knew how to post pictures, I'd have dh take pics of my finished hats

Good evening!
Meg, I truly hope that you got your peaceful day! ITs good to hear that you have most of your Christmas preparations done and I do pray that this week before Christmas you can rest and reflect. Hope you can get some good knitting time in too! Will KnitWits meet this Friday- just 2 days before Christmas?
Ruth, I do love your idea of a hat party! How many more hats would you have to make then? How does wool ease work in that pattern? I have several skeins of wool ease, that I bought for a sweater that I never finished, and was planning on using the wool ease for a hat for myself. I am curious how the yarn works up in that hat. Never seen a messy bun hat- I will have to check that out online.
Lots of news tonight- hope to finish the hat while watching the news with Dh.
BLessed evening ladies! Ginny

Hello Everyone - hope you've had a good day I really admire all of you making gifts for family and friends, I'm sure they appreciate getting them from you. I always think the things I make aren't good enough to give to anyone I spent the day visiting a friend in the hospital, two other friends went with me. These ladies are from the monthly group I'm in that meets for lunch once a month. The lady in the hospital got very sick suddenly one day and went to the hospital (that was last Tuesday). They found she has an obstruction in her bowel due to scar tissue growing together. They are working to see if they can get the obstruction to resolve itself without having surgery. But if it doesn't by the end of this week, she'll probably have surgery. . I'm glad we were able to visit her because she doesn't have any family in this area, so I hope we made her feel a little better today. Take care everyone.

CJ, I'll be praying for your friend. I hope she doesn't have to have surgery.
Ginny, I've made a lot of hats with wool ease but not this particular one. I'm thinking that with how soft it is that it should work fine.
Oh and CJ, I don't know how appreciative they will be but I hope they will. I never think my things are good enough either. I look at the ones online and then look at mine and I just don't think mine measure up. Then I look at the one online again and see all the mistakes. I've seen items that people have sold online and wonder why anyone would pay for something that looked like that.I thought my knitted Harry Potter scarf didn't look good until i looked back at the picture that's with the pattern. Mine looks great. I bet your's do too. We tend to be too critical of our own work. I laughed when Ginny mentioned taking out some of her finished work because a stitch was wrong. Yes if I see a stitch that's wrong or just not quite right I take it out and fix it. My dh says no one would know there's even a mistake but me and he's right about that. a friend sent my dgd a sweater and hat she knitted a few years ago and she told me there was a mistake. Well I would have never known and still don't think there was because since she mentioned it I looked and couldn't find one.

Ginny, all the messy bun hat is is a hat with a large opening in the top...remember pony tail hats.... you're supposed to fluff up your hair and have it poking thru looking like a messy bun. Seems to be the big thing in posted patterns now.

Phyl, yes that is a great hint that Meg gave. It should work well. I'm sure I'm going to be using that one sometime too. That poor pink cable hats is sure giving you fits. I like your persistence. How many times have you started it over again? I was looking at crochet cable hats last night online. I decided that it's too complicated for me to do right now when I'm in sort of a hurry so will tackle that later. I like learning new things. In fact one of my goals each year is to learn something new. When I worked it was usually a new procedure. Now it's usually something new to do with computers or crafting.
Wind is still ridiculous here. Yesterday we had hurricane force gusts of over 88 mph and it blew a semi over. Well he should have known not to drive on that road. They always are saying not to drive there when it's seriously windy but each year people do it anyway. I never drive there in winter because I don't want a semi blown on top of me. It's a road called outer drive that takes you around the town instead of going thru. Much safer to go thru and even semi's have another choice.Luckily yesterday no one was hurt

Hello Crafters - hope you are all doing well today Ruth - I know you're right that we're always more critical of our own work. Maybe someday when I finally finish all my quilts, I can give them away so people can enjoy them. I'd also like to make some more of the crocheted lap blankets to give away. That wind sounds terrible, hope everything is O.K. with your property. Stay warm Phyl - Glad to hear your projects are coming along too Meg and Choney - hope you are both well I haven't been doing any crafting and probably won't do much in the next few weeks. I need to get into my sewing room and organize my fabrics and projects so I can start the new year knowing what I have and make a plan for what projects I want to work on. I hope I can get to that. Take care everyone.

CJ, the only thing that got damaged so far is the nice enclosure we put on our deck. We used a really good synthetic lattice work thinking wood would break too easily and this morning we so that there is a big crack up the whole things...Back to square one. Luckily we have gorilla glue. When the weather gets better we'll try that
CJ, you mean you've never give away any of your quilts!!! Oh I know they're beautiful. YOu have to know some really deserving people that would cherish them. Do you have neices?
I just started a hat made with Red Heart "with Love". The skein looks different than the old with loves and now that I started working with it I see the yarn itself is different. It's not soft and cushiony like the old with love but I LOVE IT! Feels so nice. I sent them an email tellig them how disappointed I am in the Heads Up yarn. They got back to me with a form letter saying they would send me a reply in snail mail and they might want me to send samples....well come on people...you got lots of that yarn, why would you need my samples? I'm not going to do all that. I don't expect anything from them I just wanted them to know that they should look at their product and fix the problem. anyway I do love this yarn and will be buying more of it...;yep, just what I need..more yarn. Just like Phyl going to the quilt shops.. I can't help myself. I was the same when I used to buy fabric for sewing only I rarely used any of that. And speaking of that I still have to do my rice bags
Ginny, you asked about the rice bags. I have crocheted some but, as you said, you have to have a liner. A former friend of mine always used knee highs for a liner but I sewed mine. I tried the knee highs and didn't like how it looked. So now, since I have to sew anyway, I'm going to make these just our of fabric.
Phyl I knew you had started the scarf over quite a few times. I've done that. I can't believe that I was able to make that cable palindrome scarf that Elayne that used to be on the WW board gave me the pattern for. It was the first and only time I've done cables so far and it was such fun. I did have to take out some stitches but amazingly I didn't have to rip the whole thing. I still can't believe I did it. I really want to make another when I get time.

It is a beautiful sunny day here. Temp is 54 so I cant complain. I went to the Dollar Tree and bought some gift bags and a card all for less than $5. I should remember to go there more often. This afternoon I went to visit an old friend who lives in a skilled nursing facility which is very up scale. I haven't seen her for a few weeks. I don't know what is keeping her alive. She is skin and bones and she now has a Hospice person with her so I am thinking she is not long for this life. It would be such a blessing for her to die because I know she would not want to live like this. She is 91.
I was able to get quite a bit of knitting done last evening and finished my audio book. I will just keep knitting until this b/blanket is finished which should e soon. I have knit a lot of hats but I am not interested in knitting any at the moment.
I have an old pattern for a bun hat. They must have been popular a few years ago. I don't remember ever making one.
Devin needs to use the computer and I need to think about dinner. I will check ack later.
