Meg, I'm sorry to hear about your friend being so frail. Sometimes leaving this earth is such a blessing No sickness, no pain as the hymn says.
I'm working on an interesting hat pattern now. It took me awhile to figure out what she was talking about. she didn't state it very clearly but what she meant was to make a hdc then go back and do a front post stitch around it. It's nice. she also said something about crocheting under a stitch which would enhace the openings in the pattern. I think a lot of people wouldn't know what she was talking about there either but it came to me what she meant and it's working well. I like this pattern and will make a few hats using it.
A friend sent me some yarn she was planning on "removing" from her stash. This pattern would be good for men or women so I'll use the yarn she sent and make a bunch of these and a bunch of the ones from the pattern Ginny sent me.
Meg, I'll be over soon for dinner, what are we having? I think Devin needs his own computer... I bet he'd agree. It's amazing the things little children have these days. I didn't even get my first radio until I was 14.

Woo....been very busy here today, which is good to see!
I am tired, and so will be brief-
Meg, and CJ- I will pray for your friends, both of whose are blessed to have caring friends like you.
Ruth sorry about all the wind damage.....and that is absurd that red heart would ask for a sample. Perhaps they should offer you a refund or credit instead of putting your through this nonsense..
Phyl, we all go through those phases where we collect too much yarn, or fabric....guess you have to get busy (as if you are not busy enough!) and make more quilts.
Ended up babysitting today (this was unexpected) and having to help Dd out getting DGD to school. I watched her Christmas play too- which was adorable.
Needless to say, I got very little done today- only a few minutes of crochetting in. On the last row of the hat.
Have a wonderful evening all Ginny

Just a quick hello. I finally finished the hat- just have to make the Pom Pom, which I will do this afternoon.
Ruth- I would love to see this hat you are talking about- and I would be completely lost with a pattern like that!! I have to stick with simpler patterns for now.
Hope everyone is having a great day1 Ginny

HI Ginny, I am having a very lazy day... so far. I didn't have to take Devin to school so I slept late. I have been on the go so much lately and I really needed a lazy day.
I didn't do any knitting last evening but today I hope to get busy later. Ginny, you wont get much done with the DGkids around but I am sure they are excited about Christmas and what would Christmas be like without the little ones. On Sunday morning as I scrapped the frost off my car windows I said to Devin that Jack Frost had been around . He looked at me a very seriously said Is he real?
Ruth I have a Samsung 10.5 tablet that Devin uses all the time but he still wants to use this computer. I try to do my computing when he is at school. Though he does have to wait and take his turn. He knows more about fixing the computer than I do.
I need to get busy around here even if I am having a slow day. Have a wonderful day.

Hello Crafters - Hope you are all doing well today Ruth - The reason I haven't given away any of my quilts is because they are only finished quilt tops - they've never been made into an actual quilt One day I will get them quilted!! Glad you didn't have too much damage from the weather. Sounds like you are very busy with projects and hopefully enjoying them. Meg - I'm sorry to hear about your friend too. Hospice is a good organization and I've had good experiences with them. Hopefully your friend is not in any pain and is at peace. Ginny - I bet your DGD's Christmas play was sweet, I'm glad you were able to see it. Glad you finished your hat. Phyl - Hope you are doing well. I went out and did my grocery shopping today (lots of people in the store and it will probably be worse the next few days). I also went by the post office, bank, another store and gassed up the car. I like to get everything done while I'm out, so I can stay at home more other days during the week. This afternoon I went by a funeral home where a friend of my brother and sister-in-law had a viewing. This woman led a very interesting life - she was an Air Force Nurse back in the 1950s-1960s-1970s, where she went many places all over the world. After leaving the service, she continued to volunteer for the Red Cross and worked with helping the wounded servicemen/women who came back from overseas. The last day of her life she was at the Air Force base volunteering. I think that's all we can ask for in life is to have lived it well, gave to others and done the things that brought us joy Take care everyone

Ginny, I bet the play was wonderful. It's so great to be able to see little ones in plays and Christmas programs. They're always so serious.
Oh and I'll post the link for the hat. Once you figure out what she's talking about it's not hard and after you figure out that when you do row three you're not going to come out with the right number of stitches to do what she says but that it doesn't matter and when you figure out that when she says crochet under the stitch she means to crochet into the space you made on the previous row, then you've got it mastered. It's a very pretty hat and worth the work of figuring it all out.
I made dh his traditional Christmas walnut tarts today. Tomorrow is wrapping presents day. I had to explain the hat gift thing to dh again last night. He forgot what I told him our plan was...lol
CJ, my aunt was an Air Force nurse for years about in the 50's to 70's also. She went to nursing school as a nurse cadet and went to the same nursing school I ended up going to.It sounds like your friend lived a full and happy life
Meg, yes little kids know a lot more about electronics than we do.I can understand why Devin wants the computer. I have a tablet too and it rarely gets used. I like my laptop so much better.. and smart phones...no way..the screen is just way too small as is the keyboard.
and I almost forgot.. I still have my rice bags to do. I think I'll go into the craft room now and looke for the fabric I want to use.I hope I have enough rice.

Ruth, thanks for the link for the hat! It's awfully cute- and I like that it has a distinct band- (my hat pattern does not). Perhaps next week- when the dust settles I will try that pattern too. Glad you made DH his walnut tarts...you were chatting about them last week.
CJ-glad you got your shopping all done! That is a big relief, especially as Christmas draws nearer. It's wise to get all the errands done in one shot- think we all probably do the same thing...It sure sounds as though this woman was a lively and interesting woman! I am sorry for your loss- but she surely does set a good example of how to live to the fullest.
I did my errands today- got most of my shopping done. (Still have 2 more things to pick up from the store...thought we had enough eggs and alas we do not!) In craft land, I am still searching for an afghan pattern for the baby- think I am down to 2. Figure by the end of the weekend I should know what I am doing. Cannot wait to start!
Hi to Phyl and Meg.... Ginny

Here I go another day. I took Devin to school and filled the car up. I have to go out again to the bank and get a gift card and then I am done. ... I hope. No knitting yesterday but I am hoping today I can sit and knit and listen to an audio book.
You all seem to be very busy with your projects.
cj, your friend lived a very interesting life. My DH spent 20 years in the USAF so I remember the AF nurses well.
Ruth, I had a look at the cap you have been talking about and I printed out a copy and I may try it. I have never crocheted a cap before I have always knit mine. There are ladies in my nit Wits gp who do excellent crochet projects and we all help each other. Thanks for sharing.
Ginny, I hope you find a b/afghan pattern you like.
I am off to the bank. I will check back later Have a good day.

Hello Crafters - hope you are all well today Ruth - what an interesting coincidence that your Aunt was an Air Force nurse. Ginny - Hope you can figure out what afghan to make. Meg - We have an Air Force connection - I worked as a civilian for the Dept of the Air Force for over 30 years. I cleaned out another kitchen cabinet and drawer today. Found some menus from restaurants that have been out of business for years - so I can figure how long I had them in the drawer It's a beautiful sunny day here today and in the high 50s. I went outside and sat on a bench I have in the yard for awhile. It's nice to breathe the fresh air

Ginny, lol, I do repeat myself a lot. I forget who I told a certain thinng or forget which thread I posted a certain thing on and then I repeat so please forgive me for talking about the tarts yet again.
I'm working on my fifth hat from that pattern. This time I altered the top some so that it would be solid and I don't like it as much. The hats look even nicer in person. I'm in love!
I'm going to make dgs and dggs's hats over. I think I mentioned yesterday that I don't like the seams so I've definitely decided I'm going to make them over for sure.
I have to defrost the freezer today. It'll be a big job but will be worth the time to have a nice clean freezer once agian.. I'll sort things while doing it. I'm sure there are some things that got lost in there that need to be thrown away. Maybe I'll even make some room in there so that I can buy more stuff to put in...yep, just what I need.
Anyway, see you all later.
Still haven't got to wrapping yet but that will be either later today or tomorrow. I'll be glad when the holiday is over and I can get to some other things I want to get done. First on my list will be the afgan quillo type thing that I mentioned for other dgs. And I have to ask ddil if there's anything the next dgd in line for birthdays wants me to make here. My dgd Lily alwas has something she wants made. She's the one that wanted the shawl but I don't know if Grace wants anything or not. She'll be eight.. Lily is 10.Grace loved the purse I made her last year. The next month will be yet another one of their sisters' bday.

CJ, didn't see you there. I don't know what the temp is here today but sitting out on a bench enjoying the 50 degree weather sounds so nice.
Oh Ginny, I meant to say that the band that is at the bottom of the hat is just rows of single crochet. It can be done on any hat and it does give them a nice look plus you can decrease was you make the first row or two of the single crochet to have the band tighter and the hat. It makes for a nice fit.
Meg, you do a lot of driving. I hate driving and do like...oops senior moment...but either Ginny or CJ and do all my errands on one trip so that I don't have to go our again. One of my biggest peaves is when the pharmacy doesn't have all of dh's meds and tells me I'll have to come back in a couple days.. it's not like I live next door to that store! Luckily we seem to have extras of everything so don't bother going back until next time we're out... That usually happens when they claim that they have to call the doctor for a refill...well they were all prescribed at the same time so why are the refill dates different. Or they say that it's not time for one to be filled again...well again, all were filled originally on the same day. But no use arguing with them or getting upset...I've learned to just go with the flow...unless it's a really serious issue of course

Well got the order from dgd. She wants a pink "shawl with a button" or a pink hat with a "big fluffy ball" on top. I know her 15 year old sister bought each of the little girls a hat for Christmas and maybe ddil doesn't know that so I'll wait till after Christmas to see if she still wants the hat and if so I'll make both.So as soon as I get the two hats I'm making this evening done I'm going to start of those things. Their birthdays are Feb1st and 3rd.
