Ruth, thanks for the definition of your βuglyβ yarn. Indeed, it seems as though you have come up with a good way of using it- and it does indeed seem as if you have even made something pretty using it. Combining the two oranges, well, I would never have thought of doing that but can easily see how that could work out well! Hats off to you for coming up with that solution! (Pun intended).
Sue, it would sure be nice if your water woes are fixed today. Do you have a well or municipal water?
Now, just so yβall do not think I am some kind of nut who lives in a picture perfect home, well I do not. Our house is small (by todays standards) but comfortable. All I am looking to do is declutter and straighten up. In the past few weeks with all the wedding stuff and some extra babysitting, things were not being put away properly. Plus we have one corner of the family room which is stacked with shower gifts. All I am trying to do is get the house so that its ok to take a picture in and does not look like a disheveled mess everywhere. Considering that the other 3 occupants are basic slobs, I have my work cut out for me, but little by little I am getting things put away.
And yes, now realized that I did get some crafting done. My friend, who finished the quilt for her future DGD was remarking on how all she sees is the mistakes in her quilt (which is adorable). I suggested washing it before giving...first of all because it fluffs up the batting and will eliminate loose threads (or make them easier to find). We had a conversation about washing vs not washing via text- and I checked an online blog about it, where most recommended washing first. So I got my crafting in for the day. π Ginny

good morning,
well I feel good enough to get some cleaning done. so far.I did sleep pretty good.
Ruth when you take $47.94 divide it by 6, the block magazine cost 7.99 per copy which is about what most magazines cost now days quilting or other magazines.those magazines are loaded with advertising.
I think woman's day and family circle are lower in price.now if you buy say like a special issue of a diabetic or quilting or other magazine is good for several months they can cost you 12.99 on up.
also if you pick a magazine from another county you could pay as much as 18.99 per copy.
a magazine wrapped in plastic with a little some kind of product in it will cost more.
you subscribe to a magazine for a year or two the companies will start sending a renewal form long before you even get to your running out date
one thing we have to watch out for some companies have auto-renewal .they don't always warn you, all of a sudden you have the bill on your cc card.
oh yeah the publisher's have customers over a barrel when it comes to buying a magazine now days.
well I better get breakfast and get started cleaning.
have a good day. phyl

Lost my post. I was thanking you, Phyl, for explaining the magazine and magazines in general. I haven't bought a magazine in years. We used to get them at the library and only magazine I've had otherwise were two that a friend bought me a subscription to as a gift.I just don't read magazines. I'm glad to hear that you feel better and got a decent sleep
Ginny, I do get it. I'm not a clean fanatic either but when people are coming over I do like the clutter to be out of sight. My house is fairly large but most of it is open spaces. There are only three bedrooms and two of them are really small and the so called master bedroom isn't all that large either.Bathrooms are small too. So spaces to put things where people won't see are just not there. There's lots of space but not places to hide things.Yes you definitely did get in crafting. I always am concerned about washing things before giving them away. Some fabrics just never look the same after being washed. Some of the ladies at Caps for Kids used to show us their flannel baby blankets that they made to look like quilts but really weren't. They always washed them but whenever I've washed flannelette it always got dull and sometimes pilly.Maybe I didn't buy as good of quality as they did but I bought it at the same place. Maybe I washed it wrong.
Yes I was amazed at how great those colors look together. One of our Caps for Kids leaders was always talking about color combos and how well some colors go together when you don't expect them to. She had a leaflet from Red Heart showing hats in unexpected color combos and kept it there so everyone could look at it. Of course there were always some hats that came in that had some really weird clashing colors.
Sue I hope you water problem is cleared up soon.

Hello Crafters - Hope you are all doing well today. It rained so hard and long here this morning, I had 3.60 inches of rain by the time it was done! It was cooler today so that was nice. Two of my relatives were telling me about getting rain in their basement and I hadn't really thought about checking mine but I did this evening. I could tell where some water had come in around the back door into an unfinished room. It was already drying up so I'm not worried about it since there is nothing that matters in that room. I've been checking my sump pump too to make sure it's been working and I've heard it pumping out water all day. If I ever move from this house I will not have a basement in my next home. I hate all the problems that go with them. I let all my quilt magazine subscriptions expire. There just weren't many quilts in them that I liked and it's so easy to find patterns on the Internet for free that I'm surprised the magazines stay in business. I do still get 2 magazines but both of those expire this year and I think I won't renew them. I can look through them in less than 30 minutes, so I figure they can't be that interesting I can always buy them at the store if I want. I had planned to go out today but when I saw all the rain we were going to get I put it off. I need to go to the grocery store post office and bank. Also, one of my cable TV boxes has been broken for about a month and trying to fix it online didn't work so I need to take it to the office and get a new one - the office is about 20 miles from my house so I've been putting that off. But now that it's so hot I need to be able to watch the TV in the room where that box was because there is a working AC unit in there. Take care everyone!

That's a lot of rain CJ. I'm glad your sump pump is working and you have very little water in your basement. Yes having a basement adds even more challenges to home ownership. We don't have one. Our house is two levels but neigher one is a bsement. Yes there are so many patterns for everything online that buying magazines is pretty much a waste now. One of our cable boxes isn't working right either but they won't let you just pick one up. You have to have them come to your house. It's free but I just don't want a stranger in my house. I hope you can get yours working so that you can watch tv in comfort.
Well I called garbage people today. A man actually answered. I explained that I talked to the owner Fri and she said she would send someone that day but no one ever came. So he said he would check into it immediately and send someone. Well no one showed up yet again. And the car dealer called and said they found what is wrong with my truck and it will cost $651 to get it fixed. I'm still waiting to hear from the saleswoman where I bought it but haven't heard from her but I doubt anything will be done by them either paying for the repair or at least paying part. I just hope this really does solve the problem. If not I'll be going back there. Luckily it's not far from my house.I told them that after they fix it I want them to keep it for several days to make sure it works. We'll see. What he said is wrong is completely different from what the service person at the Ford dealer said.I think I trust this man more.Ford dealer should at least pay what their service dept has already charged me.
I've been working on dgd's purse. I ripped out most of it last night because it was too large so now I've got a good start on it. It still seems a little large for an 8 year old but she can use it as a tote and put lots of things in it. I'm going to line it to make it stronger. I want to make another hat too but will only maybe get one started tonight..I'm not sure yet

Good morning,
Phyl, you nailed it on the head for how the magazine is charged. I just read the information on Block magazine, and they indicate that once you subscribe they too will auto renew. It does look like a beautiful magazine however...
CJ- houses are just a pain in the neck, basements or not. Glad you made it through all the rain with little difficulty. That is indeed a pain that you have to drive that far to rectify the faulty cable box. I am surprised that they will not come to replace it with a service call instead of making you drive to them. Hope you get the problem all squared away.so you can get that television working during the hot weather.
Ruth, it does indeed sound as though the saga of the truck with electrical problems is coming to a close. I also doubt that you will get a nickel from Ford- who I hope you have not spent too much money with trying to get to the bottom of the problem. Your garbage company is another issue....at the rate they are going at your next garbage pick up will be due (meaning that you completely missed one) which you ought to be credited for. Yes, I would think that making a tote for DGD will also be nice. Even if she does not appreciate it now, most girls do eventually like tote bags. Lining it is a great idea.
Ended up stopping at church to drop off quilt wash for my friend, and I got to see the quilt in person. Its adorable.....and I think she did a wonderful job. The front is all quilters cotton and the back is flannel, making it a warm and snuggly quilt. Yes, she washed it which I think is a good idea to give the quilt that comfy ready to snuggle with look. So that was my crafting for the day. She did mention that if I do not make it for our BOM class she would spend some time with me next week to show me what they did in class....that could actually work, as we could do that here- where we have airconditioning and she does not. From the looks of the long range weather forcasts, its gonna be hot here for a long time.
Hi to Sue, Meg and Becky.....gotta email Meg to see how she is going Ginny

I hope you hear back from Meg. I was thinking of sending her an email yesterday but then got distracted somehow.
well we've been out shopping..two stores and are back home and most things are put away. They got in my exercise for the day walking in place and arm exercise. Since I got my fitbit app synching with my tracker I'm having fun setting and meeting goals.
Did crafting by ripping out about six rows. For some reason when I followed the pattern the nice stitch pattern showed on the inside instead of outside where it should be. I couldn't just turn it because then the rows of ribbing would be on the wrong side.Sometimes it's just trial and error.
I hope you're all having a good day. I had to shop today because the next couple days are going to be really hot with Thurs maybe hitting 100...dry heat is still hot although certainly more comfortable than humidity

Hello Crafters Ruth - I hope you can get your garbage picked up, I'm sure that is getting really irritating. I also hope the truck can be fixed and that solves the problem. There's always something going on, isn't there? Ginny - That's nice that you have someone who can work on the BOM with you if you can't make it to the meeting. Hope your weather doesn't get too hot. It's been nice to have a few cooler, low humidity days here. For my new cable box I could have the company come and replace it at my house, but I'm also one who doesn't like to have anybody come in my house. I always feel like they are scoping the place out, it's scary to me since I live alone. I only let someone in when it's a major emergency I went out and did my grocery shopping today and went by the post office and the bank. I'm tired this evening since I didn't sleep well last night (that always happens when I know I'm going out the next day), so hopefully I'll sleep better tonight. I'd like to hear how Meg is doing too. Take care everyone!

hi, we are getting an nice rain now. Ginny one thing about msqc is they email you and let you know when
it is time. then you have the choice to continue or not.
I might try their modblock mag. have no idea what that one is about.
need more information on the mag.
today was sew day. I did not really have anything thing ready. so called Nita yesterday and ask her if she would help me with a small paper piecing project. this is what the small quilt shop in Winona I went to last fall Pauline was trying to teach me. this is the one they use for beginner's class called mayflower and it is a star.
for some reason I seem to be more relax with Nita. I didn't seem to be scared of doing it.think I might be liking paper piecing. least for this one.
now the one last winter the guild had people come and teach us. that was not for beginner's.even tho 3 people from that shop were there .
remember how I SAID I HATE PAPER PIECING? YOU MAY HEAR ME SAY THAT AGAIN IF I ever get back to it.to help. THINK THAT ONE IS A JUDY NEUMIER PATTERN.PHYL

Hi crafters, Phyl reminded me that I hadn't been posting on crafters at all. I have been reading the posts most days. Just have missed the part with the orange yarn. Orange is not my favorite color but it sounds like it is turning into something pretty.
I've been working on a white crocheted baby blanket for my great granddaughter. Finally finished it. Turned out cute but would have liked to put some color in it. Mama said she wanted all white.
No other projects started right now. Have a few to finish though.

Almost 100? Yikes, Ruth! Our temps are getting up to a mere 80, and I'm wondering what to do with my feet already ...
The mystery of the low water pressure is solved, thanks to the man who mows my lawn. There's a major leak in one of the sprinkling system water pipes out front. Probably the pipe lost a battle with the aspen roots. Major gushing of water. The lawn guy let me check to make sure the inside water was working and it wasn't. So, now the sprinklers are off and the inside pressure is back to normal. I talked to the sprinkler guy a few minutes ago, and he'll be here on Friday. I have to call back the well company tomorrow and let them no that their visit is downgraded to not urgent. The other things still need doing, but not asap.

CJ, yes it is always something and everyone has these problems. You have you a/c problem which I hope is not acting up again this summer, your small leak in the basement, the cable box etc.Sue has her water problem. I'm sure Ginny, Sue, Betty and Phyl have these things happen too
Betty, it's sure good to see you. Yes I even wondered why I bought the orange yarn. But it did turn out really nice when I combined them. Is the greatgrandaughter born yet or is she expected sometime soon. I have one that's due to arrive last of Sept or First of Oct. Haven't had an update on that lately. Your blanket would have been beautiful with some colors, yes...maybe some pastel sections but some people just like plain white
Phyl, I'm glad you have someone to help you with that...one that you're comfortable with and I hope that you do end up liking it.
Sue I'm glad the source of the problem was found and can now be repaired. As Ginny said in one of her posts above, home ownership truly is a pain. The only thing I like about having one is the solitude from the amount of space on our larger lot and the lack of having to pay rent every month.
I did some yard work today after being home from shopping. All this exercise seems to be giving me energy.I've also been listing my food in Sparkpeople and I do need to be a little more mindful about my nutrition. I seem to be low on a lot of things. I know you can track your food in fitbit app but I've only done that one day. I like Sparkpeople

Good afternoon,
Ruth, thanks for the headsup on sparkpeople. Guess I will have to check that out, as right now I do not keep great track of what I eat for micronutrients. Good to hear that you are getting some exercise in- that is one thing Fitbit does a great job of is encourage activity. So sorry about having to take out al those rows....
Phyl- are you doing paper piecing or english paper piecing? Yes, I can understand why you dislike it, but it does create beautiful corners.
CJ- were you able to get that new cable box? Glad you got those errands done, and hopefully will sleep better tonight.
Betty, great to see you!! Congrats on completing the baby afghan, which sounds so very pretty.
Sue, the water mystery is solved!!! Yes, tree roots are a headache. At least its a minor problem and hopefully not too expensive a repair.
Things are going along well enough...think I will go straighten up the kitchenette, then work on final payments for the vendors we are using (like the wedding musicians).
Take care. Hope that maybe I can get some crafting in later! G

hi friends Ginny it is regular paper piecing.
don't think I want to do English paper piecing.I watched mary jo working on her grandmother's flower garden did not realize that is a form of English paper piecing.except now they use little plastic shapes.
I know there is a technique out that is like paper piecing but not using paper.watched that on you tube one time.not sure if I could get the hang of it.
yesterday Barbara said she tried it and could not get the hang of it. she is a great quilter.does beautiful quilts and does amazing hand quilting.
today was the chiro, give blood work for my platelets,go to the bank and meet Delona at The y.
Lunch at wendy's, the old navy store.
then joann's.
Delona was looking for a new scissor. her right thumb knuckle has a big knot on it. I told her get it checked out. not every thing is arthritis related. phyl
