Ruth, well your DH is a real winner!!! Love that he does not mind (in fact encourages you) that you get more yarn. That triangle scarf is so pretty- and I can see how it fits in with todays styles too. A charm on the center V really adds drama.....gee that is going to be pretty.
DBIL and DSIL from Florida will be visiting with us today. Better go get my walk in before they get here and before its too hot.
Hi to CJ(stay cool!!!), Sue, Phyl and Becky Ginny

Ginny, how great that your sil and bil will be visiting. I don't imagine you get to see them often. She's the one that's the fantastic crocheter too, right?
Well I started over on the triangle scarf. I still have the other intact and waiting for the ordered yarn to arrive. I'm making this other one with Red Heart's unforgettable yarn. I can't believe they say this is worsted weight because it's very thin which is what you want for this scarf but how in the world can they call it a #4. It's thinner than even the other thin #4's. It's pretty though and I have tow skeins so plenty for the scarf. I'll have some of it leftover though too and it won't be enough to make anything so at some point I'll end up having to buy another so that I can use it unless there's another in my stash that I don't know about but I don't think so because there two were right together and if there was another it should have been right there since my yarn is a little more organized now. I've decided that I'm going to make all the girls one of these scarves for Christmas. The young women in the crochet groups all seem to love it so, as you said, it must fit in with today's styles.Yes I was surprised that dh was so amenable to me buying more yarn. I know he thinks I have more than enough and he's right about that but I never have the one I need for the project I'm currently planning to make. As I said I have very little #3 yarn except in baby yarn and baby colors. I don't have much cotton either except the scratchy kind you make potholders, etc with such as Sugar n' Cream.

Hello Crafters Ginny - I'm glad to hear the wedding went well, I'm sure it was beautiful and that now you can relax the rest of the summer. Hope you enjoy your visit with relatives today. Ruth - I'm enjoying reading about all your projects, I'm glad you have so many that interest you. Phyl - Glad you were able to get out last Thursday, but sorry to hear there wasn't much worth buying. It does sound a bit disorganized. I did enjoy hearing you ate at Ponderosa. We used to have them around where I live and went there a lot, I sure do miss them - they are all gone from here now. Hope everyone else is getting some crafting in and doing well. I checked out the blogs on the Slow Sunday stitching website yesterday and was pleased to see so many people working on embroidery. It really seems to be making a comeback. It's been very hot here so I haven't been doing much of anything. The house gets so hot by late afternoon and evening. I really need to get things figured out so I can move out of here before next summer. Take care everyone!

good afternoon, Ginny I am glad the wedding went very were relax now please.
I have been in my playpen/family area doing some cleaning and putting away.why do we as crafters make such a mess . probably more in the sewing area then other crafts. we seem to cut, leave stuff out,get stuff on the floor.
Don is vacuuming for me now.then I will go cut some strips for paper piecing I tried to start the star last night. I need another lesson from Nita.
I did watch some on you tube. most of them just show a square and using 4 corners.kinda like sew a square in the corner and flip, cut. don't need paper piecing for that.phyl

Phyl, not real sure what you were describing, but for paper piecing you will find that there are other ways to accomplish the same goal, without using paper piecing. But by using paper piecing, it comes out so much more precise- better. Thanks for the orders to relax......yes I needed that.
Ruth, what a nice idea to make those scarves for your other grand daughters. That way you will only have to master the directions once, the other scarves will be easier. And I also do not understand yarn sizing.- have had the same experience where the same weight yarn is noticeably larger or smaller. Makes no sense.
CJ- any idea where you will be moving to next year? I admire your spunk and determination....we are all here in your cheering section.
Got no crafting in other than discussing quilting with Pastors wife this am. Visit with family from FLorida went well. Good night all Ginny

No Ponderosa's here either. You would think that in these western wide open spaces that they would have them just because of the name. They had some back in NY when we lived there and we went there a few times. Phyl, I can make a mess with crocheting so I'm sure I'd really make a mess sewing. It's been so long since I've sewed except for making linings for my dgds' purses that I don't remember.
CJ, I sure do hope that you'll be able to find a really nice place to more to. Are you planning a house, condo, or an apartment and will it be a buy or a rental? Does anyone in your family know a realtor that they can put you in touch with that will give you a good deal on both buying a new home and selling the old?
Ginny, I' glad you had a good time with family and that you were able to talk to your friend about the quilting you missed last week.
Well I worked on my craft cave Phyl, like you did with your playpen. I organized some more and also weeded thru my huge stash of fabric and bagged a lot of it up for donating. None is what you would use for quilting or at least very little of it, or I'd take it to the senior center for the ladies of the quilt group they have there.I took some there a few years ago and also donated some to GW and did sell some at the one and only garage sale I've ever had although I sold it to only one person and to her so cheap that it was lgike donating. She said she was a teacher and wanted it for her classroom. I need to make some space in that room but actually right now I need another shelf because I want one for my super bulky yarn. I hate to have it all mixed up or have rows in front of other yarn so that I can't see what's behind it.So I have more work to do on it tomorrow.I doubt I'll get there again this evening since it's nearly 9 but you never know.
Ginny, this is a super easy pattern but I seem to keep forgetting that chain after the dc even though I think I'm concentrating enough. When a pattern starts out with 202 stitches in the first row and increases with each succeeding row the thing you don't want to have to do is rip rows out and do over. And yes even some RHSS yarn is a different thickness with different colors and they even make the texture different on some of the supersavers from one to another. This particular yarn that I'm using is the same thickness as that which I was using yesterday but is considered a 4 while that one is a 3.
Ok back to work...see you all tomorrow

good morning,
last night Jeana took us out on the Mississippi with her pontoon boat. we were out for over an hour. the water was choppy. we had a really nice breeze she went a little faster. I had my sun protecting hat on. I had to fold the band down to cover my ears. I have always been one no to like wind in my ears, even with hearing aids.
was funny when we first started out Jeana asked if I was afraid to go faster? I said are you kidding? this is the kid who grew up going to uncle Ralph's cabin and riding in a fast motor boat. those were fun times.
I love the water. Don nicknamed me water duck.since my knee surgeries I can't kick like I use to.
I have everything ready for sew day..I have two new windbreakers I want Nita to look at. Kathie from the y was to shorten the sleeves.last week she had me try them on. the black one I said needs to be trimmed and then turned under. she said no she would just turn the hem under.I said that will make the sleeves heavier. well the black one the end of the sleeves do not feel right.
then the navy blue one I said probably needs about 2-3 inches cut off..then turned under. she had me put the wind breaker on inside out. turned the hem up. I said that will be to big of a hem. she said no. well I said pin it.she said no she would remember. the cuff was coming out as I took the jacket off. the blue wind breaker sleeves are still to long. the sleeves come to the middle of my palm. like maybe she never shortened them.
this is a lady who loves to do handwork. she did a good job on Margie's pants. I told Delona about it last night. Delona was there watching us. Delona said I wondered how that was going to work.
my cutting and hemming has always been something to be desired about. not good. even I know enough when sleeves or pant legs need to be cut off. my problem is I can cut but not get things even.
wish I could have slept longer this am. time to get some breakfast.
hope you have a good day. phyl

Had no idea that Dan Blocker started Ponderosa chain.... we used to have the one hear sort of nearby, but it closed a good 10 years ago. Perhaps more. Phyl, sounds like a fun time on a pontoon boat (never been on one myself). Hope that your lack of sleep does not bother you throughout the day. I wonder if there is a class that you could take to help you with your cutting and hemming...or even a good you tube. What project are you taking to sewing? I get the feeling that you, like Ruth, have many projects going at once.
Had a great time with DBIL and DSIL yesterday. Wished they lived closer than Florida. Now I am trying to plan the rest of the week, to see when I can get together with my friend to figure out what to do for this months BOM.
Think I am going to sneak in a short walk before it gets too hot. Ginny

Now that you mention it, Phyl, I think it was a Bonanza restaurant not a Ponderosa. And no, I didn't know Dan Blocker started them but it makes sense that it would be one of those men. As to the sleeve issue, mine are always too long too. I have very short arms and legs. I'm not good at cutting and hemming and getting it even either. And you're right....you never just turn it up and sew. You will have too large a hem then. Now on winter coats there's always a problem for me. Difinitely can't just turn those up and sew...it would be WAY to thick. As it is though I usually end up just rolling the ends up which still makes it too thick and it looks tacky but what can I do. I'm not going to cut a thick winter coast sleeve. And hemming pants is a problem too. Oh and another thing about just turning them up and sewing esp on pants is that then you get puckers due to the bottom usually being narrower than up further.Luckily now they seem to be making the petite lengths shorter so mine don't end up way too long now..just a little too long. My dh has the same problems because he, too, has short arms and legs. And for her to not even use pins...well who does that. You have to pin
I have one more row to go on the triangle scarf. I did a lot of other things yesterday so didn't finish. It doesn't call for an edging but I think it will have a more finished look if I add a row of sc for an edging. Not sure if I'll start another one after that or start one of the other birthday gifts I need to make. I will work more on my craft cave.I forgot that I also need to find a shelf for my light yarn that I found among my stash yarns. Right now I just have them in a little crate. What I need is three walls of built in shelving with cubbies...wouldn't that be nice. I once had a coworker who quilted and her dh built her some for her fabric.

Wow, Ruth you are flying through that triangle scarf. How many more do you plan to make? Totally agree, I too pin, pin, pin. Its the only way to make sure that all works out close to the way you want, and for certain garments a ton of pins are needed to evenly distribute any excess fabric neatly into a tiny gather. I even pin small parts of a quilt block- just to prevent me from messing things up. Think a sc would look lovely as a border on the scarf. A reverse sc is also nice but tends to be a bit bulky and might be too bulky for that delicate scarf.
My sister pulled a real winner. She gave Dd#1 a dress (?) that she knit for DGD #2. my sister never made anything when DGD#2 was born. Ds made a monstrosity, not sure what it was meant to fit other than perhaps an obese beagle. (No offense to beagles). Its all stretched out looking... an odd color of dusty rose (a bit off for a baby) and even the workmanship appears bad. Ds does beautiful work when she works in counted cross stitch. This is a disaster. Remember the beautiful off white baby afghan I got tendonitis working on for her grandson a year ago? I pushed myself hard to get that done ON TIME, when Dgd#2 will be 2 on her next birthday. This dress is a piece of junk. I told Dd it was fine to donate it or throw it out. My sister will never know what happened to it as she lives 450 miles from here. Sorry, had to vent.
Ruth, I wonder if you could find a premade cubby shelving unit at a store like Lowes. Something modular that you could expand as needed. Even something in metroshelving wire. (I know its available on Amazon) might work. Just an idea.
Gotta go look at quilt directions Hi to CJ, Sue, Becky, Meg and Phyl. The cat is looking to jump on the keyboard, so I guess I better sign off before she causes trouble Ginny

Ginny, some people do make the most ugly and poorly constructed things to give as gifts. You would think that when they look at what they've made they could see that it's no good. I told you about dh's grandmother. She used to make sets of hat, sweater and bootiesfor babies. Well first of all she used the most awful scratchy and hard and harsh yarn. Then she made the booties about the size for a 5 or 6 year old. It's good that your sister lives so far away. If your dd donates this "dress" someone may be able to take it apart and use the yarn for something else. It's a shame that people make these things and spend their time and money to make such a monstrosity. I see pictures that people post on the crochet groups that I just can't make a comment on because there's nothing good you can say. On some, people do say nice colors if that is the case, and don't remark on the item itself.
well scarf is done. Ginny, this scarf is so easy it really takes no time at all despite the fact it starts with 202 stitches and there are increases in each row at the triangle part. The strange thing is that the designer said it takes 357 yards and while my skein of this unforgetable yarn haa only 270 yards, there is still a lot left even after I did that sc row in all the nearly 300 stiches. I have to measure the rest to see exactly how much it took. I did it exactly as the pattern stated. So I'm going to go back to that other scarf I started using this same pattern and see how much I can get done with what I have on that skein. I know I won't be able to complete the whole thing but it will be interesting to see how much of it I can get done with the 151 yards that comprise that skein.I ordered two more skeins because even two is not supposed to be quite enough
Oh and I will be making at least 4 for dd and her family and not sure how many more I'll make for ds' daughters if any at all but the youngest one who will be 8 love s emulating her oldest sister who will soon be 18. The one I just made is for the one soon to be 18 so I may have to make a smaller one for the one soon to be 8.You can easily make these any size

Hey, Ruth! Glad you completed the scarf- which sure sounds pretty. I really like the pattern and am sure that your DGDs will love it also. I can imagine that increasing or decreasing for the size is not too difficult. Yes, I can see you making one for everyone, which means 4 more scarves.
Got to read some quilting directions today. That was my crafting. Ginny

Ginny, btw, I do remember you making that beautiful blanket for your sister's adult child. That's the pattern you shared with us and I did start it but haven't got back to it yet to finish. Well I have a long way to go on it actually. One of the things I was looking at today in my craft room was the very large bin of yet unfinished baby blankets. Most are actually done except for the dreaded edging as I'm mentioned a lot of times because my conscience keeps telling me to get busy on that.
I'm glad you got some crafting time. Yes there have been days when my crafting for the day consisted of looking at what people made and posted on the crochet groups and looking at patterns
Well I did get back to that first scarf and I now wonder again how she ever came to the conclusion that the scarf would take 325 yards. As in the ohter post, this yarn I started making it with has only 151 yards on it and I have all but the last row done but not enough yarn to go completely across. This is the last row of the pattern not my added row of sc's.If I had enough for this row I'd stop on that instead of doing that sc row.
Besides the grandaughters, I'm also going to make one of these scarves for my grandaughter's best friend that just lost her dad.
