Good afternoon my dear crafter friends. It's a hot day here again today but I did do a tiny bit of work outside. Then I did some inside. I crocheted before that and after too. I'm working on another hat to get to my goal for the week. I need to set a day to just finish everything aka weaving in of ends.I probably have about 30 hats now that have ends that need weaving in as well as a couple other projects. Tomorrow I'm going to do some sewing...making the lining for dgd's purse I hope you are all having a good day. Hello to all

hi girls, well Tuesday Nita looked at the jackets.Nita said she should have opened up the jackets, tapered thee sleeves and then turned under and pin ,pin.
Nita will help me when she gets back from Alaska.
they leave for their dd on Monday and fly out from Chicago on Tuesday. they have to be at the airport 6 or 6.30 in the am.
they are not early morning people all
it will be there 60th anniversary . the two dd came up with this idea. yet everybody pays their own way.the are going first class .kay told them you will be pampered.they do not drink. not sure about the 2 dd.there is one town they will not be going to as it will rain all week there. .
we had lunch at panera's. then joann fabrics. checked out rogan's shoes.
then it was time for my chiro appt. dr. pilato said my right hip and low back has alot of arthritis. also I have no discs in 3 spots on my spine. never knew ABOUT THE DISC OR DO NOT REMEMBER BEING TOLD.
Also the old trick of sleeping with a short pillow between my knees. but not bring my knees way up. phyl

Good evening!
Ruth, how are you managing to keep cool in the 90+ weather? Be careful if you are going to work outside, Gee you are plenty smart enough to know how to take care of yourself. Don’t over do it if you have to be outside. It seems as though you will experience hot temps for awhile. Think its a great idea to get the hats finished, meaning getting the ends woven in. If you get the hats cleaned up and donated, that should make a lot more room in your house. Were you able to find a suitable fabric for a liner for DGD’s purse?
CJ-It looks as though you and I are in for a hot weekend, and Saturday will be super hot. Are you able to get any inspiration to work on the mason jar quilt?
Phyl, hoping that the tips from the chiropractor help you to rest better and stay more comfortable. What did you have at panera?? I love their oriental chicken salad.
My friend came over this afternoon to show me how to make this months blocks. So very glad she did as i never would have figured out these blocks. She was right, there are no new techniques this month, but its the orientation of the elements that is different- and is poorly explained in the directions. Actually, its not explained at all. We had fun, shared a cup of tea, and each got a block done. Funny, she made a mistake in the assembly of her block, but we both like it better and she is going to leave it as is. I finished sewing my block after she left. Am happy with the block, now have to make 3 more. Next class is August 1, so that does not give me a ton of time. My friend is leaving for vacation on Sunday, but I convinced her to pack her sewing machine (something I have done before). Its wierd because in the directions they are now talking about work in the next months, and how to finish the quilt. Wow.....gotta get to the quilt shop next week to buy my backing fabric. Nice to get some quilting time in.
Have a great night all Ginny

ginny we had the strawberry poppy seed grilled chicken salad.not sure how much longer they will have it. it is one of their seasonal salads.
I have known about the pillow trick since I was a nurse aid in the 60's.I can be such a restless sleeper some nights the pillow would be useless. I will try it again. phyl

Phyl, that's why I don't use the pillow suggestion. I turn so often it woud be left behind in no time.I see people on the lifetimers thread talking about the salad you had. Panera's is another restaurant we don't have here.
Ginny, I'm glad your friend was able to come over and show you how to make the block. I'm glad she's leaving her's the way she made it. If both of you liked it it has to be lovely so why change it.Yes Aug 1st doesn't leave you much time but I know you can do it now that school is out and wedding is over.
I did find a fabric that will work for the purse. It's not plain but it does have a very tiny pattern...I forget now that it is. I don't think it's a flower but whatever it is I thought she would like. Now I'm trying to decide if I want to try a zipper and I think I will. Can't hurt to try as I have plenty of zippers and the fabric piece I found is large.

Well it looks like everyone is busy. And it is summer after all. There's lots of things to do and also summer work to take care of
Well I think I got my craft cave better organized and also now have room for the bed I just bought for company. It's a fold out bed but has a great mattress and will be perfect for a week or two at a time and I also thought it would be a good thing to have in case dh or I get to a point where we can't walk up and down stairs. And this craft cave is on the second floor which is the floor that you enter when coming into the house and where the dining, and living rooms are and the kitchen so it would be perfect for a person that is ill.Everything else is downstairs. And of course bathroom on each level.
I also worked on the triangle scarf that I started last night. I thought I had left the fabric out that I was planning on using for the purse but I must have put it back or put it on the pile of fabrics that I just put away so have to look for that.
I hope you're all having a good and and that it's not too awfully hot where you are so that you can enjoy yourself. See you later
Ginny, yes I take a lot of breaks no matter if I work inside or out. The day I was working outdoors and the neighbor came over to chat it got way too hot though standing in that sun. She's 81 so don't know how she could stand it. I think I was on the verge of heat exhaustion myself.

afternoon, the pain woke me up by 3. I got up about 4,ate a little something, took my pills and ice pack on
one good thing I got to watch a boyfriend for Christmas on the hallmark channel at 5.one of my favorite movies. they don't show that one to much anymore.
we had thundering and lightening around 3 so that probably would have woke me up if the hip pain didn't.for all that hoop-a-la we only got a quarter inch of rain.
Cwe went to lunch at Culver's. I was hungry for A CONE.
then it was joann's .I got a thread box to take thread with to the retreat..
I just wound 4 bobbins each of white and beige thread.my brain is telling me to do some little things for the retreat not wait till the last minute.
ruth there are A lot of things I want To organize .starting with dresser drawers.I keep putting it off. when I get the upstairs done then I really want to go over my sewing room stuff and clean out.
ginny what is the name of the block of the month you are doing?
I HAVE A FRIEND WHO WORKS AT JOANN'S. BEAUTIFUL QUILTER.
I asked kim about sewing lessons. joann's is not having classes anymore not even quilting. not enough interest. kim said she was the wrong one to ask about hemming.
the tech school use to have classes in a several things for adults. they haven't done that in years. now it is just regular adult carer type stuff.

Good afternoon,
Phyl- well that stinks that your Joanns does not offer classes anymore. I wonder if a local vocational school would offer that, or even watching a few good you tubes. Or even someone from your sit and sew. Just some ideas. Yes, I love how Hallmark Channel seems to have their movies running all the time. A sure reminder of cooler temps- more pleasant weather. The BOM I am working on is called Silver Stars. Its a 25 year anniversary quilt designed by the shop owner (her parents started the business 25 years ago). I will see if I can import a link for the quilt. Needless to say, each block has a star- of different construction and color. Its pretty, got a sort of Amish look. Our DD#2 likes that poppy strawberry salad at Panera. I like the oriental chicken salad there. Dh cannot stand Panera, says it does not serve enough food to feed a man. But he is tall and thin- with a very high metabolism. So sorry that your pain is that bad. Is it your sciatica??
Ruth, gee, I have to find the link again for that scarf you are working on. I can see my DSIL (who heads home tomorrow) making one of those. She can crochet in her sleep. Once again, she brought up a ton of books and patterns for me to look through and keep. I have already gone through most of them, knowing which ones I will keep. Got a donation truck coming next week- so some of those books will be in there. Her level of crochetting way exceeds mine, I do not knit and styles have changed. So the decision to keep or donate a book was fairly simple. Your DS will be coming to stay with you in the fall, so its great that you now have a good bed for him to sleep in. Yes, that is very good planning to have a bed on each level, in case that is necessary for you and Dh. Congrats on getting your craft cave all set up and organized. Now you just have to make sure that you have craft supplies on each floor, in case of emergencies. You know, we have to plan for events like that! How is DGS doing? I know that he returned to Taiwan- have not heard much about how he is recently. But I am also aware that he does not always communicate well, news does not always come home. Hope he is doing well and making wise choices.
We have gotten a few texts from DD and DSIL. Looks like they are having a wonderful time on their honeymoon. Hoping to get my second block sewn today.... I picked out all the colors for the other blocks, so now I am all set to cut and sew. Seems funny that they are leaving hints in the directions on how to finish the quilt. Wow, time has flown. The shop is offering 2 classes on quilt finishing, one on free motion and the other on quilting with rulers. I would love to take one.....not sure which one is right for me. Guess I will call the shop and get their opinion.
CJ- hope you are doing ok.....I have temps for DC on my phone and it seems like you are experiencing really high temps. Hope you are staying comfortable until this miserable weather passes.
Sue, how are you doing? Did you make it to your quilting group this week?
Becky, wherever you are, sure hope its not too hot.
Meg, thinking about you and hope that you are feeling strong and your dizziness is going away.
Time to fold the laundry. I did my good deed and put it out on the line today to dry. No sense running a dryer when its like a hot clothes dryer outside. So sorry if I missed anyone, I do not think well in hot weather.

PHyl, so sorry about the pain and that it wakes you at night. That is the worst I think, when you can sleep because of the pain. Then you're not only in pain but tired also. Sorry too about the classes not being held anymore. Back in the day the schools used to have great classes at night for adults teaching all kinds of things. It was great. I went to quite a few of them after finishing my nursing degree.
Ginny, great Idea encouraging your friend to take her sewing machine. When we had our little "fishing shack" in Arkansas one year my dh asked if I wanted to take my sewing machine but I told him no because I didn't want to have to take a bunch of fabric and all the sewing essentials also. I did do a lot of knitting and crocheting while there for my Caps for Kids group. ONe year I almost forgot to bring the huge bag of hats back here with me. (we were there for two months)
Ginny, I know that you think that I'm also a good crocheter but actually I'm kind of a stupid one if I say so myself. On this scarf0 for instance, well anything... I never make swatches so now that I have two scarves completely finished and one partly finished ( the one I'm waiting for the yarn to finish) I've found that my scarves are coming out way too small. They're supposed to be 68 inches and mine are only about 52. It's ok though because I can send them to the two youngest grandaughters. They should be the perfect size for them but I thought I had one of the almost 18 yr old dgd's gifts made and now I don't. I'm going to start on that right after I finish here and instead of chain of only 202 I'll chain at least 262. I don't crochet tight either. If anything I crochet too loose. And I used the hook size she called for and the yarn I used for this second completed one is the yarn she called for...a dk.. do don'tknow why mine is too short. I tried it on myself and I'm short and it's even too short for me and that's with the triangle pulled way up my neck so if the person wanted it to be down further on the chest (which looks best) it will definitely need to be bigger...maybe I need a chain of 282...can't hurt for an adult size person
Hot here again but weekend the high is only to be 8

Yes, I did get to quilting. We met all the way across the valley. Afterwards I went to the dentist for an appointment with the hygienist. All is well, better than usual. The dentist ground down the height of my make believe tooth which immediately took care of a slight twinge on the adjacent tooth.
The too tall building Jarvis's the fence from my next door neighbor now has a small deck/porch/balcony and an outside stairway to the top floor. Up until now, I still had some privacy. Now they have a direct view into most of my backyard and deck. Although I don't think anyone will be hanging out on the stairs or balcony, I'm not thrilled.

Hey Ruth, hope that your modifications to the pattern make the gauge correct- and that the scarves fit. I hear ya, sometimes a pattern just does not fit- even when you follow the gauge and correct hook size. Think that happened with that baby afghan I made two of, I ended up adjusting the foundation chain size to make the pattern work. But with something like a scarf that has to fit properly, its a bit more like work. Yes, it looks like your temperature will not be bad over the weekend. Glad its going to be more comfortable for you.
Am almost done with the second block. I hope to finish sewing it together in a few minutes....then I will cut the third block over the weekend. Dh is already getting the “what are we going to do” syndrome- and with its so hot here, I am fine with being in the house quilting.
Off to starting up my machine. Have a good night all Ginny

Sue, so sorry about the view of the stairs/balcony. I totally understand, and have faced the same issue. For us, we ended planting some tall growing evergreens, to block the view. I cannot say much positive about my neighbor, he likes to stare at us from his vantage point. Thankfully, those bushes are growing quickly and his view of my yard is starting to disappear. Glad you got to quilting and the dentist also! Simply amazing how much it helps getting your teeth ground so that they fit better G

Good morning, Gee, this seems strange, I have gotten to sleep for two days in a row. Also am able to wake up with a bit of a “what do I want to do” approach. With all the activity and effort needed for the wedding, I guess I have to deprogram myself a bit. I did complete block #2 last night. Now to work on cutting fabric for block #3.
BBL to see who checks in Ginny
