WELCOME TO REGULAR & NEW POSTERS! This thread is full of encouragement & suggestions. New people, welcome! We encourage you to jump in. One day, one hour, one minute at a time is easier to handle than a week, etc. Lurkers, join in
Our goal is 21 days Binge Free (studies show 21 days to break old habits & start new ones!). Whether we make 21 or one, the point is to learn as we go, replace binges with other things to help us through stressful times. Some days are harder than others & we may slip; that's OK. The Binge Monster is in the shadows waiting to pounce. Hopefully this thread provides inspiration, courage, & support to become a Binge Survivor!
You may see different folks on different "Cycles." A Cycle is a 21 day block of consecutive binge-free days. Stay with us for as many cycles as you'd like.
Everyone's definition of a BINGE is different. The Oxford Dictionary defines a binge as a spree of eating and drinking. To many of us, BINGE is defined as "eating without dignity." The dictionary defines "dignity" as a calm and serious manner or style, showing suitable formality or indicating that one deserves respect. Only you can define what a binge is for you. Going over points, as long as it was done with dignity and journaled (therefore acknowledged and "owned") isn't binging--it is up to you to decide.
SPECIAL THANKS TO LESLIE5609 for starting this challenge on the Out of Control Board, in August '02, and thanks to all who keep it going.

C77D20, 8 water, 25 points, low on the ghgs, 1186 calories (591 gms over goal on sodium), 8187 fitbit steps, K-15/16, G18 Y3 R4 February.
I stuck to my plan with one small exception. They brought matzo ball soup with the order and I had a very small bowl of it. That raised the calories a little so I eliminated my planned yogurt with sliced mango. I had the scale at the table and weighed everything. The day turned out to be 27 points instead of 30 and I managed to stay under the 1200 calories which is amazing. It was a really wonderful day all around. DS, DGK and I took a nice long walk and played table tennis at the clubhouse and that was a lot of fun. We watched two episodes of “This is Us” cuz they wanted to catch up. I even got my piano practice in while they did stuff on their laptops. DH enjoyed the day immensely – lots of chit chat mostly about our so-called president. My birthday card to him said “OMG It just hit me. I’m in love with an older man” LOL. My weight was up this morning but I’m thinking maybe it’s partially due to the prednisone so if I stay really strong I might see a nice drop when that’s over – still have 10 days to go.
Jan – Love you but have to agree with your “not smart” comment <g>. Delighted to hear you and DH are back to speaking. Good idea to bring a friend for DS-16. I use the computer for MFP. I also track in a notebook so if I don’t plan in advance I can enter it at night. Our lives are different. I’m home so much that the desktop is no problem. And thanks, I do think the hives are just about over though I do wake up in the middle of night itching still. Last night I put on some stuff and went right back to sleep. I have a follow up appt with the dermatologist on Tuesday and will receive final instructions.
Kathy – Another 1.2 lbs. That’s phenomenal. So nice when your efforts are rewarded. Sorry your Mom isn’t getting any exercise. Would she join a Senior Center or something – not only for exercise but for socialization. How old is she? Your poor DH being sick and manhandled by cattle simultaneously. Ooy. Whoever said life is easy? Sorry about your dinner. They probably would have been happy with mac n cheese instead of all that work <g>. On the bright side, you’re set for lunches for a while.
Meg – What a pleasant and welcome surprise. Come back often. Happy to know the family is well.

Morning, BFF's! Yesterday got away from me; just busy with regular chores and errands. My food-related goal this weekend is not to gain weight. I have found this to be a helpful way of approaching eating when I know the foods I'm eating won't be 100% healthy. It is just another way of framing things and keeping in the yellow zone without feeling so restricted. Marie had once mentioned this. For dinner I enjoyed a vegetarian dish that had cheese in it and I also had some homemade cake for dessert. I didn't overeat because of the simple "don't gain weight" goal, but I was able to indulge a bit. Today's eating will be cleaner and I'll also get to the gym. It was so great to not have to wear a coat, yesterday, but the temps have dropped again. I will catch up on reading yesterday's posts and BBL for personals.
Nancy - Your card to DH made me laugh. I'm glad he had such a nice day.

Nancy - Sheesh on the hives. I'm glad they are going away, but they are certainly taking their time.
Beth - DH and I have been watching the pre-season games. I love just hearing the sound of the announcers. Yesterday, we saw your team play. Gotta' start eyeing all the competition. ; )
Jan - So good to hear that you and DH are speaking again. Good idea for vacation.
Kathy - Yay about the scale! You are doing so well. This is the home stretch for your project, but not your health. Beware the relief trigger this week. Maybe you can make a plan for a reward that isn't too rewarding, if you know what I mean. (I'm totally projecting here.) For meals this week, I'm making a Broccoli Quinoa Casserole (also has spinach and kale), Chinese style vegs (with tofu for DH and with chicken for me), and a gumbo-ish dish with shrimp. I'm also making a small lamb shank for myself. I loved the 3-day lamb recipe with the pomegranate molasses, but I doubt I will ever make it again because of the time. One day, I'll get to the restaurant in Philly. My favorite way of roasting lamb is to season it with lots of garlic and thyme and to slow roast it in the oven. I use a Dutch Oven, but a covered roasting pan works, too. Sometimes I will add some white wine by itself or mixed into the liquid in the pan. When I make the shank today, I may brush it with some pomegranate molasses at the end, now that you mentioned it.
Meg!!!!!!!
Waving to Cindy, Lori, and Louise.

Good morning! I started the Meloxicam last night and my foot is feeling almost like new. I'm going to try a 5 mile run today.
Meg!! I was thinking about you yesterday! I hope you can check in periodically. I miss your humor and perspective on life.
Nancy, it sounds like yesterday was a perfect day! Your card was great. Your new determination is wonderful! I'm in awe at how low your calories are. 1200 calories would be torturous for me. I did it a few years ago and I was ready to gnaw my arm off.
Edesia, Marie was full of wisdom, wasn't she? I think that's the plan I'll use on vacation- to not gain wait. It will hopefully temper the all or nothing mentality. I can remember binging on so many vacations.
Kathy, you're on the home stretch! Definitely beware of the relief trigger.
Lori, hope you're having a great weekend.
Waving to Beth and Louise!

Have people waiting for me on a conference call. On a Sunday - ughhh.

Got in my six mile walk. So crisp and so beautiful ~ the world is full of returning geese, though we still have 100% ice on ponds. The geese return with the Girl Scout Cookies! Kids bought $60 of cookies while I was walking. I instructed them to HIDE THEM! :-)
