Hey Ruth, just catching up from last night...well that is some story about how you kept making the same mistake over and over again with the purse lining. (I did something similar with a quilt block last month- had to remake one section 3 times before I got it right). Anyway, glad you got it right. Can you cover the feed dogs on your machine or lower them? I know you have a good machine that might offer the ability to lower them. You really went nuts with hats last night/yesterday got many of them done weaving in the ends. Ever wonder why we all do that- wait and then out of nowhere get super inspired? Anyway, getting 12 or 13 hats finished is a good thing, and one more thing you can check off your box.
Just the other day DD#1 and I were discussing hand made hats and babies....and what a shame that babies outgrow little bonnets and things like that so very quickly. I have two knit sweaters that my mom made- so very much work for the fine baby yarn she used-and they only fit for such a short amount of time.
Got the block cut out last night. Hope to get it sewn today, or at least started. Thinking I will get to the quilt shop tomorrow to pick up my backing fabric. It still seems odd to me that I am actually entertaining finishing this quilt. When I get to the shop I will decide which class will work out better for me, if either.
Think I am babysitting this am for a short while (30 minutes)....so better grab my tea and get busy. Thankfully its not supposed to leave the 70’s today. A big change from the heat wave.
CJ, did you get cooler temps also?
Sue- is that construction next to you ongoing?
Phyl- how is your back and when is your retreat?

Good morning crafting friends. I hope you all have a great week this week. Time is sure going by fast. Before I know it it will be time for my son's visit.
Ginny, you asked if I had to pay for the testing and repair on my truck...yes I did and big bucks too. At the Ford dealer I told them to disconnect the aftermarket alarm system the prev owner had recently had installed. The truck had come with a factory installed alarm system so why he had a new one installed is beyond me.Same with the sound system. He had already had one installed years ago.I did NOT tell them to disconnect the back up camera. They were two separate things although they kept talking as if they were one. They charged me for that but the service person told me he wouldn't charge me for the testing so for mutilating my wires they charged me nearly $100. Then at the Honda dealer, yes they charged since they had nothing to do with the Ford dealer selling me a defective vehicle. Also at the Ford dealer, my truck suffered some body damage...the dent was not there when I took the truck in. Also they return it to me VERY dirty. Someone had splashed it with muddy water and they never bothered to wash that off. So, needless to say, I won't be returning there for any service and won't buy from them again.Saleslady told me that their service dep't, which had declined after being sold to large company, had improved. That is not so. I also though she would get back to me today but so far I haven't heard a thing. Enough of my woes.lesson learned...expensive one but lesson none the less.
I didn't start any of the gift items last night after all. I'm working on another "autumn leaf" hat. This one has the green brim. I like the brown better but someone will like it and be kept warm with it on.
Warmer day here today and yesterday warmed up more than was predicted. We did a little yard work in the evening

I've had two appointments this morning and am back at home. The main focus was on my neck and the left side of my head. I've been having a lot of ocular migraines. Traction helps most of the time. My guess is a pinched nerve and a change needed in glasses due to a vision change in my left eye. This has happened from to time since me concussion six years ago, but this is a particularly long spell.
Ginny, work on the building next door continues. I drove around the long block twice today to look at the building from all views. I don't think much of anything can be done about it, but I imagine there will be an attemptto block use if there is a plan for use as a business. Time will tell. The workers weren't there today. The roof hasn't been done. Doors are still missing. The wrap is on the exterior walls, but nothing has been started on the siding.
I did some rows on the bamboo scarf I've been working on last Thursday but nothing since. Until I finish the tasks for my sister's estate, I'm not motivated to do anything. Every time I start looking at the paperwork, the migraine gets worse, so I'm not making much progress. I see the opthalomogist again tomorrow, so hopefully there will be some answers about my vision.

Hello Crafters - Hope you are all doing well today I'm glad to hear there is crafting going on, mine is only looking at websites on the Internet The temps here are a bit cooler this evening, but inside the house it's still hot. Once the heat builds up in the house it's tough to get it out, typical summertime. Take care everyone!

Good evening, Ruth, congrats on getting hat #52 completed. That is quite an accomplishment. WHat a saga on the repair of the truck. I think I would also avoid the ford dealership. Love the sound of the autumn leaf hat with a green brim. I love autumn, and fall colors...am sure it will turn out beautifully.
Sue, Best of luck with the opthamologist. The headaches sound painful... an easy solution would be nice for you.
CJ, unfortunately, in my book the house does not really cool down until night time temps go in the 50’s. We have 2 months before that happens. Hope you are getting lots of good inspiration online for when you get your quilting momentum back.
Worked on the BOM a little bit.
Have a good night all Ginny

Yes over the weekend while it was cool outside it was still hot in here even with a fan trying to blow in the cool air. Looking at websites counts Sue I sure hope they aren't planning to use that building for a business. I imagine the area is not zoned for business anyway but some people do try to sneak past the rules I'm working on a heart shaped pillow thanks to Ginny's suggestion. I'm using Bernat blanket yarn so the first three rows are brutal since you can't see the stitches but I got out my stitch markers.I'm past those rows now for the front panel but now it's in the boring part so I stopped for awhile and did some other things so will get back to it in a minute. I'm going to get out some crochet thread now too so that I can also work on some bracelets I saw between bouts of working on the pillow. My grandaughter has an easy name to embroider or sew on so I'll do that when the panels are both done before sewing it together and stuffing...I think that might be the best way.I might also sew on some little heart appliques Sue your sister must have had quite an estate for it to be taking so long to get it settled.I hope my son doesn't have much problem with ours when he has to do it.

Hello Crafters - Hope you are all doing well and getting in some crafting.
It's cooler here today, so that has been nice and the rest of the week is going to be in the 80s too.
I cooked some of the frozen rhubarb and strawberries that I had frozen from fresh earlier this summer and had them with vanilla greek yogurt for the last 2 days. I really enjoy it that way and don't have to add any sweetener to the fruit since the yogurt has some in it.
Take care everyone!

Hi CJ, good to see you and I'm happy to hear that it's cooler there so you're more comfortable. I have rhubarb in my freezer but no strawberries. They didn't have any good ones while it was still strawberry season. We don't get very good fruit or veggies here as I'm sure I've mentioned before.
I hope Ginny, Phyl, and Sue are all having a good day.
I've been working on the heart pillow but with this blanket yarn it's tricky so I'll see how the rounded parts go now since I'm up to that part. I may have to take it out. I did take it out earlier because it looked funny but turns out that's how it's supposed to be for the humps in the top of the heart. Now I'm planning to make dh another neck pillowfor his birthday which is in two weeks.I'll try to use the blanket yarn for it too. The one I made him before doesn't have enough stuffing in it and I wove in the ends so well that I can't open it. He actually uses it quite a bit but it will be better to have one that has more stuffing.
It's hot here today. Nearly 100 but humidity of only 16% so it doesn't feel all that bad.I watered all my outdoor and indoor plants earlier. We didn't do any outside yarn work last evening because it got dark and we had a thunder storm with rain. Probably won't do any this evening either because it will still be hot and there's no breeze like there was last time we went out there when it was still in 90's

Missed your message Ginny. I think we were typing at the same time. When my house cools down after summer it gets very cold and stays that way.It doesn't heat well and doesn't cool well either. I'm glad you got in some time with your block. Did you get out to get the backing?
These pattern writers are going to drive me crazy. I had to rip it out way back to row three because I didn't read what the writer meant instead of what she wrote. It's working very well now. Now everything that happens with it will be my fault...I think

Good morning all!!
CJ- hats off to you, my friend. You can eat greek yogurt! I love regular yogurt and plain vanilla (sweetened) is my favorite. When we go to Mickey D’s, I even order their fruit and yogurt parfait. But I find greek yogurt inedible. My kids love it, and I know others do too. Sounds so good that you are able to use your frozen fruits to add to the yogurt. A nice treat I am sure...Enjoy the cooler temps. Here in my neck of the woods its going to be nice today, but a slow creep up in temps over the weekend. I saw some 90’s too for later on. Hope we can ride this summer out without any more of the extreme heat we saw a few days ago. Stay cool!
Ruth I would imagine that making a heart shaped pillow our of blanket yarn (is it a bit chunkier than others?) might be a challenge to get the curves right. Of course, I know you will prevail and it will be adorable. Are you making the pillow red or pink? Just curious. So sweet that you are making another neck pillow for Dh’s birthday. I do love how he appreciates your creative efforts. Think we all have faced trials with pattern writers. There is an art to writing instructions and being sure that ALL steps are properly documented. I caught what you said about not reading what the writer said, instead of what she wrote....but am glad that the pattern is now working for you.
So in the last 3 days we have gotten some complete nonsense in the mail- which would have cost us well over $5,000.....two mailings were problems in billing from Dh’s procedure in June. Found out after a long phone call with the insurance company that we were over billed for a copay, and instead of owing $5000 we are getting a small refund. Then yesterdays saga was with social security- who claimed I owed them money. So we drove to the SS office, and after presenting a mountain of paperwork to them the lovely young woman (such a nice personality) informed me that we owe them nothing. Pfew!!!!!
On to the quilt shop. Got my backing fabric (which I LOVE) and discussed how I will finish the queen sized quilt when done. I have no desire to spend several hundred dollars with a long armer, so I will stitch in the ditch around the blocks and stars, probably free motion quilt in the background areas (off white) and perhaps take on using my new quilting ruler on the border. I also signed up for the free motion quilting class in 2 weeks, and she will help me perfect my technique. She knows I have done some free motion quilting before and will work with me while others are getting the process started. Lets hope an old dog can learn new tricks.
Errands to run today. BBL Ginny

OH Ginny, that SS thing especially would have made me a wreck. One time we had to go to their office because of a problem with dh's SS but it was resoved easily. That person also was very nice and helpful. I'm so glad you had all the needed paperwork to prove to them that you didn't owe anything. Yes insurance and doctor offices are great at overbilling. I never get bills except for my copay which they always mess up but then I owe them $25 which is not a big deal at all esp compared to your $5000.Strange thing lately on mine, and I think I may have mentioned it ,is that they refused to pay for my blood work this year but on that same form they sent it said that I didn't have to pay either.I don't know what is with that. We have blood work every year and they've always paid before.
I'm glad that you were able to find a fabric you really like for the quilt backing. I didn't realize your completed quilt was going to be so large. It's nice that you already have the skills to do some of the quilting and that the person at the quilt shop will give you some help on it and also show you some new techniques.
The heart pillow is actually in teal which is her favorite color. She doesn't like red or pink. The blanket yarn is considered a super bulky. #6. It's actually just a chenille but a thicker chenille than what they used to make. It's what is used for the water balloons and is washable and dries easily.Since I had to start over several times yesterday I'm really getting practice working with it and used to it. I have much of the front panel done and now have to make the back. For the edging I'm going to use another blanket yarn which is a variegated with this color teal in it.And I'm going to use that one to make a couple small hearts to sew on If I can get the small heart pattern to work with this yarn. Otherwise I might just do a surface crochet and experiment with making hearts that way.
Another hot day so just sitting and crocheting is what's on the agenda. Tomorrow might be shopping although if it's too hot maybe we'll wait till Monday. We can make do with what we have in the house

Good evening Ruth and all who follow-
Sue, hope you are doing ok and that you are feeling ok. Its getting toward the end of the week. Did you or are you going to your quilting group?
CJ- hope you are staying comfortable. Don’t you love the Christmas in July movies on the Hallmark Channel?
Phyl, being that you are so quiet, I am hoping its cause you are on retreat. Hope all is well.
Becky, what are you working on these days?
Teal was my mom’s favorite color. Funny, Dd#1 was asking what she should pick up for Dd#2 as a gift to remind her of my mom. Dd#1 had some good ideas, and then I went into walmart today. Found some really pretty dish towels...which remind me of my mom. Yes, you guessed it, they are teal!! Got a set for each Dd...for Dd#1 its a hoot, cause her kitchen is colorless...white cabinets and back splash...the white kitchen look that seems to be so popular these days. Now she is going to have these bright towels. Ha ha ha....I find it all very funny as my mom was one who went against the tide a lot- did what she wanted as opposed to what was popular. These bright teal towels will look pretty funny in Dd#1’s kitchen, but will remind her of my mom. Gee, chenille yarn is tough to work with. Sounds like the pillow is coming out really well and I am sure DGD will love it. Has it cooled down any? From what I can see, you will be pretty hot most of the week. I know that does not bother you as much as it would bother me.
As far as SS went, the letter they sent me had limited information and an even more limited explanation. But what I saw was that they thought I was “double dipping” - collecting SS while working full time. So, by bringing in my last pay check, last time sheet and letter of resignation, it all documented that my work ended in June....but I was not paid for that work until July. That seemed to take care of the issue. Why it took them over a year to figure out all this is beyond me.
Got to work on the embroidered pillow case while Dh and I drove to Walmart. So I did get some crafting time in.
Hope everyone is well and able to relax a bit. Take care Ginny

Well sometimes gov't agencies really don't do a good job. I'm glad it was straightened out. I'm glad you got some embroidery done. Was it on the pillow cases? Well I think that your dd#1 needs some color. Some people like it stark...plain white or black and white. Sometimes it's good to go against the tide
Yes still hat here but on the weekend once again it will cool off a little just for the two days. And yes, I would much rather have it hot because then there are no issues with being stuck in the driveway when we need to get out or pipes freezing.Plus it just seems so depressing in cold weather.
Well I had to set aside the pillow for a couple days because my thumb is really aching from working with the heavier yarn. I did make another hat so the rest of the evening I think I'll make a little brontosaurus. It's on a site called spin a yarn and she has a lot of "ragdoll" type patterns and this is one of them. My youngest grandsons will love it and it will be fast and easy. I guess I could work on the triangle scarves too so we'll see how it goes but I do think the dino
Get a good sleep everyone and will see you all tomorrow
Hi Meg
