I am 100% plant-based/vegan. After nearly 8 years of eating all plant-based, I find that my overall health is much better. Still overweight, rather large, in fact, but determined to stay the course and eventually get to a healthy/normal size.

Hi-I am so glad that there is still a ww message board! I gained everything I lost when I made lifetime in 2012 and rejoined. I really miss the boards so thank you for being here! I have been a lacto-ova vegetarian since 1970. My husband is too though he eats very little dairy and we raised our two girls vegetarian. My older daughter married a vegetarian and they and their son are vegan. Unfortunetely my grandson is allergic to both soy and dairy but has grown into a healthy, active two year old.

I know itโs been a while since this post was active, but I am beginning the process of transitioning to a more plant based lifestyle. I will probably fall under the lacto-ove vegetarian category, at least to start. I enjoy eggs and cottage cheese and would like to continue eating those. Meat, poultry, fish - I can easily get away from eating those, have not had any for-the past week.

transitioning to a more plant based lifestyle If it's simpler, you might start by transitioning to a vegetarian lifestyle. I am neither vegan nor vegetarian, but find I make a lot of vegetarian dishes. I'm always surprised to realize that some of the vegetarian dishes I make are actually vegan...

I have not had meat or poultry for a LONG time and don't miss it. I still have milk and eggs and some cheese but have the cheese less often as I just went back to the old WW Core eating program.
If you have questions or need substitutions or anything...be sure to post

Since becoming vegetarian my stomach pains have completely vanished. I used to blame a myriad of things: (1) too much fat in the dish (2) not enough water (3) ate too much. Turns out it was just the meat.
When I first started my family, including my husband, was very worried about me "suffering" on this new "diet" and would ask how my meal was. I looked at my plate (mashed potatoes, corn, berries, and a roll) and looked at their plate (mashed potatoes, corn, berries, a roll, and bbq chicken) and said, "What do you mean? We're eating the same thing!"
The kids are vegetarian naturally. They used to get so mad if I tried to put chicken in anything. They still eat meat occasionally with DH, but are usually very happy with what I'm cooking/eating.
I'm not trying to "convert" anyone. Just striving for a healthier version of me!

irisinnia, I am glad to hear your tummy issues are better on a vegetarian diet. I am happier without animal products and hope to transition at some point to vegan BUT perhaps not quite yet. My husband "needs" his chicken at least once a week and has sardines and tuna in tins he has, too. I just don't feel like it any more so avoid it. We need to listen to our bodies

I think cheese can fit in but think to get one serving of milk you need 2 ounces...can't remember. cathygeha , It was an ounce and a half. At the time, it said non-fat cheese. It's been extremely difficult to find non-fat cheese for at least the last year or so; I've been using RF cheese but keeping it lower than 1.5 oz each time I have some...

I rarely find nonfat cheese here so use light and it is not necessarily low calorie. So, when I have cheese I usually have one or two points worth of it and don't usually even think of it as dairy but instead more as a protein.
