Ginny, actually it was two months ago that my sister left and I can't believe it either. Time sure goes by fast. Half this week is gone already.
Yes it's hard to see our children living in a place that is not what we would like to see them having as a home. My dd lived in places like that for a few years until her husband finally got embarrassed himself and bought a house. I hope your dd and her new dh will be able to find their dream house that's affordable very soon.
Have a great time at BOM tomorrow. It's nice to get together with people who have interests in common
I didn't feel like doing much in the way of crafting today for some reason. I did stuff the heart pillow but didn't even crochet the little bit of seam closed and I only worked on a hat but I did do quite a bit of the attempting to organize. I don't know how much more organized things are but I did move a lot of things around.
My cursor keeps jumping all around...just like what happened on my old laptop that caused me to buy this one. So I'm thinking that it's something I do weird that causes it. Anyway forgive all the odd parts of words that are in the wrong place. I try to find and remove them
Ginny, I'll try sending again.

Good afternoon!!
Ruth, the post seems just fine, and I am not seeing anything off in your typing. Lord knows, I am guilty of that, sometimes I post without my glasses on and make all kinds of mistakes. You do more crafting in one day than I do in a week- so if you need a day off, that’s just fine. Plus I am sure there is some reorganizing needed after Phyllis’s leaving and in anticipation of your son’s arrival. After an initial reorganization sometimes little tweaks to the system are needed...perhaps you are doing that. Reorganizing is therapeutic for the soul- it helps us reevaluate what we do and why things are stored where they are. I could always use help in that department!!!
One thing I need to wrap my head around is that my dream house for my daughter might not be her dream house. Last weekend when I picked her up from her inlaws house,(she had to get her car which was here)- her MIL remarked about her own home, about how large it is and that she has 7 bedrooms. Well, I gotta be honest, it might have 7 bedrooms but from the condition of the house on the outside I would not care to see any of them. No, I am not a snob, and I do not live in a palace. (This is a modest home with average furnishings). All I am getting at is I think Dd’s In-laws are not concerned much with how nice a home is- so it remains to be seen what DSIL and Dd end up buying when they can. Its such a tight market here, very few entry level homes on the market. We shall see how it goes.....
Went shopping with my friend- went to Christmas Tree shops. Got a lot of good stuff for Dd and her apartment (she knew what I was going to get for her) and got some wonderful bargains. Good to spend time with my friend too. We had a lot to catch up on.
Leaving in a little while to practice at church (flute, with the church pianist) and then pick up my BOM buddy for class. Guess that is my crafting today.
Cool night last night....looks like we have a week of low 80’s during the day and mid 60’s at night for awhile. Not quite as cool as I would like but better that than the excessive heat.
Hi to Phyl, CJ, Becky and Sue... Ginny

Ginny, yes reorganizing things really is therapeutic for me as is getting rid of things that we don't use. Now if only dh went along with that it would be great
What a great time you must have had shopping and visiting with your friend. And to get a lot of bargains too is really a great bonus and I'm sure your dd and new sil will appreciate the Christmas decorations. And yes it is hard to realize that our idea of the perfect home and how it's decorated might not be the same ideas that our children have. Can't believe your dd's inlaws have 7 bedrooms...that's a lot of bedrooms and a lot of unneeded space to have to heat. Of course I could use at least one more bedroom since we only have three but It's not a necessity for sure. And if they don't or can't keep it up what's the sense of having a house that large. As you say though it's mostly these days that most people can't afford to move into a smaller home since they cost so much. I know that here house prices are absolutely ridiculous as are rents. It used to be that you could buy a house for an extremely affordable price. That's no longer true.It also sounds like you're having another fun day today. And of course going to the BOM group is definitely crafting.
It's a cooler day here today too but will heat up again tomorrow for a few days.
Today so far I'm just working on finishing the hat I started Tues evening then do that seam in the heart pillow and try to get myself motivated to sew in the lining for dgd's purse.
Oh I got some really nice angel pendents to hang from the point of the triangle on those triangle scarves. It's going to look very nice

We're about to have another T storm. I've just taken out the woofers and rolled in the awning which has an electric motor.
Quilting was fun this morning. I took a detour and was halfway to California before I realized that the intersection without a street sign was where I should have turned. They were working on enlarging it. The city is moving in on the area where the hostess lives, a lovely older home on several acres.
I'm working on a different scarf. This one is double crochet and is in tan and. brown shades. The yarn is crinkly, and the darling thread spun into it at regular intervals yield an impressionist zig zag. I had to play with the stitch and hook size to get the result I like. I like it!
Things are about the same as usual. I'm busy and not getting much done and falling farther behind. I finally got to the grocery store yesterday.

Hey Sue, so sorry you feel like you are falling behind in what you need to get done. Is there anyway you can catch up or get help with what must be done?? Its a discouraging feeling to know that you are not getting done what you want....perhaps this is just a temporary phase. If care for your Dh is a factor, do you have the respite care that you can get? Glad that you got out to quilting! Is important for you to get some time in doing what you want instead of taking care of others and the affairs of others. That time spent at quilting helps regenerate and restore your wellbeing. Love the sound of your scarf1 Bet that the yarn is a challenge to get the hang of the zig zag effect.
Ruth- CTS does sell all kinds of decor for holidays- right now they are phasing out summer decor and bringing in fall decor. They also sell all kinds of discontinued and discounted items- sheets, blankets, housewares etc.....that is the kind of stuff I got for Dd. Those angel pendants sound perfect for the scarf points!! Hope you were able to get the hat finished and the lining sewn in the purse.
BOM was good. Getting toward the end....a bit discouraging as they cannot give me the directions for the one class I will miss in October. In some areas this quilt shop is not as friendly as it could be.....been a busy day, I’d better get to bed. Ginny

Sue, good to hear you got out to quilting. As Ginny said and as you know, it's good to get out. It's not easy being a caregiver nor is taking care of someone's estate and you've had to do both. It did cloud up here and I thought we were going to have another thunder storm too but we didn't. We did have some rain during the night.
Ginny, maybe they just didn't want to give you those instructions until after the group meets so maybe you'll be able to get them when you have time to go to the shop after that. If not, will your friend be there and able to get the info for you? I didn't know CTS sold all those things. We had a store here that went by that name but I don't think it was in the chain of those that are in existence now. They sold strictly Christmas things all year round. The store didn't last long but that was way back when we moved here and in was in a "bust" time. So anyway I thought you were buying your dd Christmas decorations but now that I hear what kind of things you did get her I'm sure she's even going to be more pleased.
Yes I did get that hat done. It was a waffle stitch hat and for me it goes pretty slow although the waffle stitch earwarmers went much faster...well they're smaller but still they went faster in the stitching itself. I think those were done differently. I did start stitching the lining of the purse but dh got up so I set it aside because I needed to concentrate so started another hat instead. I obviously need more practice in lining things. I also got the pillow completely finished. I'm not sure if I'll do a little more on the lining the rest of this evening or if I'll keep working on the hat. I had a couple other tasks on my to do list for today that I didn't get done either so they'll go on tomorrow's list.

Well I finished the hat I started last night. I really like this pattern and will be making many more from it. The way it's made it hides any evidence of seam which you get when crocheting in the round and it can be made in any size at all. It's good only for women and girls though so that's the only drawback. The pattern for this week was released this morning and is a hat with built in turban which I don't care for at all but they seem to be very popular right now with the young women on the crochet groups so probably my dgds and also any girls and young woman that get them from the ones I donate will like them too.
After I finished that hat I did the seam on the purse but it wasn't enough of a seam so I'm going around it again with a different stitch which is working well but it takes a LOT of time. I'm about a third of the way through and it's tedious.I'm not a patient person.I have several other crochet things I wanted to do today beside this but of course I have other things I need to do too so some will go on tomorrow's list probably
I hope you're all having a good day. I wonder about CJ because she hasn't been here all weeks so far I don't think.

Good afternoon,
Yes, I worry about CJ too- you know I will send her a short friendly email just to see if she is ok. We all know she dislikes the heat, and if I know her (think she is a type A personality, who likes to get things done) she feels she cannot post here because she has not been able to craft. Well, thats hogwash- ya’all put up with me when all I could do about crafting was dream. We miss you CJ, and just hope you are doing ok! Ruth, glad you were able to complete the hat and the purse....well almost on that. Its surprising that you do not consider yourself a patient person. You have toughed out difficult instructions, debugged bad patterns- all of which take a ton of patience. I just looked up what a crochetted hat with a built in turban would look like.....guess its not so bad, I would be tempted to put a decoration/flower where the gathering is. The other pattern does sound like a good one, a pattern which hides where the seam is. Is it an easy pattern??
We are still in the mid 80s here, but it is a bit more tolerable. The humidity is at 54%, so it does not feel awful- just warm. We went to the zoo with Dd#1 and her kids. Had 3 choices of zoo’s, a very small but very nice one, a zoo in the city, which is a great zoo, but huge. And then a medium sized suburban zoo which we have never been to before. We opted for that one- the kids liked it and its a cool zoo....but it was way over crowded- and there were many summer camps visiting. Dh, Dd and I decided we would never go back there, it was just not worth the chaotic drive and the crowds. THe city zoo would have been better, which is very spread out and is a lovely zoo. For the age of her kids, think we will go back to the smaller zoo, which is easy in and out, very clean and well run and for young kids a much more pleasant day.
Good idea Ruth, suggesting that perhaps I can pick up my directions for the BOM just before we depart. Not sure how that will work, though....the shop owner might not be cooperative. I do not find her the most friendly individual, she puts up a decent front but it does seem a bit artificial to me.
Glad to be home. Dd#2 will be home tomorrow....and I have a carload of her stuff ready to take up. I also have to return to CTS to pick up a bag they did not remove from the carousel to put in my cart. Thankfully its pretty close to DD’s apartment. Think she wants to go to Walmart with me tomorrow anyway to figure out how to outfit this apartment for her. When i made some banana bread last night, I was reminded of all the supplies (cinnamon, baking soda, baking powder, salt etc.....) that a new apartment person would not have. How well she stocks this apartment will be up to her. WIth such a tiny kitchen, I am not sure she will want to take on much more than very basic cooking.
Have a great day all Ginny

Yes it would be great if you would send CJ an email to make sure she's ok. She sure is missed here. I love hearing about her quilting even though she may not be working on it currently.I don't have her email address so couldn't do it myself. Ginny, I'm glad it wasn't a super hot day for going to the zoo. At least you checked this one out and know you don't want to go back. With small childre, yes, I would guess a smaller and more well run zoo would be best. In my mind I'm always making lists of what a person just setting up housekeeping will need. It's just beyond belieft all the things you need even for simple cooking and even infrequent baking. When she gets a house of their own and has a better kitchen you can really go all out to help her equip it the way she will eventually need. It will be fun for the two of you to work together on that. Yes the pattern is super easy. It's all double crochet and puff stitches before and after the ends of each row...couldn't be easier. Just one puff stitch cluster on each side. Here's the link theunraveledmitten.com/2019/01/25/fly-away-beanie-free-crochet-pattern/?fbclid=IwAR2nKNPj6VL0szvM_9cDqEko9uBZNcyRME1MQrYYHf9i8GrgPbITEYZF_hY

I'm practically jumping up and down with joy because I have the lining all sewn in and it and the zipper work like a charm!!!! I'm not all that happy about how bunched up the lining looks but dgd won't even know the difference and she'll love it so that's all that counts. Now I'm going to work on other gifts and get my list of really need to get done things done....well as you mentioned, Ginny, my list is long so that will take awhile but I'd like to get the three hats for ds and the little guys done tonight...at least the parts. They have the hat part and four other parts that go on each hat. The hardest part for me is decided what color I want to make them.
I hope we hear from CJ. I'm praying she is ok and I'm sure Ginny is too

Hello Crafters - Hope you are all doing well Ginny and Ruth - Thanks for thinking of me and wondering how I am. Sorry I haven't posted, just don't have anything to say really. But I'm glad to hear you all are doing crafting and having things going on in your lives. My mouth has still been hurting after getting the temporary bridge last week so I went to the dentist yesterday but he couldn't find anything wrong. So I guess I'll just keep taking Tylenol and aspirin until I get the permanent bridge put in and hopefully that will solve the problem. I did finally get a new cable box set up and working in the room where there is a working AC window unit, so now if it gets too hot I can sit in there and watch TV. Take care everyone and enjoy your weekend

CJ, so glad to see you. Ginny and I are like a couple mother hens and have to keep track of everyone. I'm sorry your mouth still hurts. Did your dentist suggest anything else you could use such as Ora Gel or anything. I hope it's better soon. It's no fun to be in pain. I'm glad you got your cable box fixed. As you said, at least now you can watch tv where it's cool. And you don't have to have anything really to say...you can just babble like I do.

Well here we are...another day, another weekend already.
Learned something interesting last night. I was starting the three Viking hats and well as you probably know when you crochet in the back loop only you get a ridge. When you crochet in the 3rd loop you get a look that resembles knitting. I've never heard of anyone saying to crochet in the back loop AND the 3rd loop but this pattern designer does instruct you to do that. It's great. If you've done crochet in BLO you know you go thru only one strand of yarn and it can make for a very thin and flimsy item. Well going thru that back and 3rd loop at the same time is easy and it creates that same ridge only with a more sturdy stitch. I have one done and it's great. I did a lot of revisions on the pattern because she calls for chunky yarn and I didn't have any that I wanted to do these hats with so had to adjust.Plus I had to adjust for three different sizes. Despite my plan I only got one started last evening and finished it this morning so have two more of them to do then the horns and the little back that goes around the base of the horns for each one and then sew those on so still a lot to do on these.

I know, how did we end up on Saturday already? Ruth, that hat is adorable, and Ican actually see myself making it. Looks like its not too difficult, and even I can figure out that puff stitch. Thanks for providing the links for the pattern. I know how flimsy working BLO is, or it seems that way. Have never gone into the back loop and the third loop, will have to youtube how to accomplish that. But I am glad it works out and makes for a more sturdy item. Thanks for sharing!! CJ, has your dentist suggested a warm saline rinse twice a day? Perhaps the warm salt water rinse would smooth the irritated tissues and if there was any raw area it would encourage healing. Just an idea. And CJ we just like to hear from you! Of course if its tedious for you to post, well we do not want to be a burden. But if you are reading something good, or saw a good show on TV.....well....that’s fine to post about that too. Well Dd came home today....so I did a bunch of laundry and sort of helped her pack. Seems I did pretty good with all the stuff I got for her the other day. We moved that stuff into the apartment and put a bit away. The bed was delivered and then we went on to a store to get the rest of what she needed to set up house. Her order was in 2 carts....and only a few items in my cart were mine. We got to the cashier and she asked how much I thought her order would be. I guessed $350. I was as shocked as Dd when the order total was $354!!! She has a lot of work ahead of her getting stuff put away, but her husband was home and I think it was best if I just left them to figure out their new home together. It will fix up cute enough, but I still do not like where the apartment is....have concerns for how awkward it is to get into and that its near some businesses. (Would rather it was in a more residential area). They can afford otherwise, and she kept reassuring me that they will only be there a year. I hope they are able to find something better in the same town - its a nice enough town and not too far from us. No time for crafting today. Hope everyone has had a good Saturday. Ginny

Ginny, you are so much help to your children. You are a good mom for sure. That sure was a good guess on that total for the order...only $4 off. You could win a prize. And yes, leaving them alone to figure out how to set up the apartment is a great idea. Working together will make it feel more like theirs.
Oh no, I just heard there was another shooting today. This time in an ElPaso, Tx WAlmart. 20 were killed and 26 injured and they said most of the injured are critical. Horrible thing.I can't even imagine what those family members are feeling who know their family went shopping and they haven't heard from then since
I got the second hat done and don't think I can face making one more exactly like those tonight. I'll have to wait till tomorrow to do that one so I'll work on something else.
Ginny, yes that hat is very easy...the puff one.No back loops, no front loops or 3rd loops...just puffs and dc. Finding the 3rd loop was tricky at first for me and now I'm wondering why because it's so obvious when you finally know where it is and crocheting in both those loops is even easier than crocheting in one or the other of them. Just don't bother ever trying to work in the 3rd loop of a single crchet. It's impossible and I wonder if the sc even has a third loop. People say they've done it but it was very hard..again I think it would be impossible.Half double crochet is the easiest to do a 3rd loop in.
