This is a conservative thread to allow those with conservative views to express themselves. We welcome Republicans, Tea Party folks, and those who believe in the Constitution as written, not as interpreted by liberal judges. If you have liberal views we invite you to participate in a civil and respectful conversation. We would respectfully request that if you cannot post in a respectful and civil manner to refrain from doing so until you can. Good discussions are great - insulting arguments are not. We welcome discussions about our weight loss journey.

Thanks for the startup for the week Meg.
The carpet guys just finished repairing the seam between my utility room and kitchen (they put in a metal strip so the seam won't come apart again). Then they stretched my living room carpet, trimmed off the edges my cats got to, and put baseboards down to hopefully discourage them from tearing up the carpet again. Then my gf came up with an alternative plan for floor covering for my screened in porch - laminate wood flooring or something similar (I'm thinking we need to put something water resistant out there). It would be cheaper than carpet and we could get a nice area rug that can be taken up if it gets wet.

So now my porch project is getting cheaper by the minute. Now we are talking about just pulling up the old carpet, check the condition of the floor, replace any bad wood, paint it to match the décor, and find a nice area rug which can be pulled up any time it gets wet. A lot cheaper than putting several hundred dollars into carpeting out there which would just have to be replaced every few years.

I saw Ret. President George Bush tonight being interview by Hannity. He really is a very nice man. He quietly does a lot of good with the injured veterans. I always felt safe when he was President. He wasn't perfect but I thought he was pretty honest and I did miss him when he retired.
Gary, I hope you get your floor covering sorted out. How about tile that would be water resistant.

I liked President Bush too and have to respect how he honored the incoming president by not criticizing him. It must have been difficult since Obama blamed him for all that went wrong for the next 8 years! When we remember that 911 occurred early in his first term and changed the way we see the the world and how we were forced to spend our money.

Unless they have been making some that resists swelling when wet it would get ruined if water was allowed to stand or rain came through the screens.

My gf is one of the most frugal people I know. When she heard the price the carpet companies are charging for new carpet these days then she went to the idea of laminate flooring and then to some kind of water proof flooring out there to now just painting the floor to protect it from moisture and put a nice area rug out there that can be taken up if it gets wet. The old carpeting out there has been there for probably 20 years and it's been through the wringer. I had bees take up residence out there in the back of an old chair and honey dripped all over the carpet. We got as much of it up as possible but the carpet was stained, so I got an area rug to cover the stains and there is water stains all around the edges. It has accumulated pine needles, bird feathers, leaves, dust and dirt I have never been able to completely get up so it's time to do something out there.
See lurking liberals? We have a life! I could care less about the Oscars and other award shows, even less so now that they have become political arms of the liberals. I hear their ratings have been dropping because of it.

"Plenty of Oscars Drama, but Disappointing Ratings. The Academy Awards had their most chaotic conclusion ever on Sunday night, but a relatively small audience was watching it. The ceremony, broadcast on ABC, drew 32.9 million viewers, the second-lowest total since Nielsen started tracking viewership in 1974." From the New York Times.

Hi Geri, While in the car yesterday I listened to a radio show and they were discussing the numbers of viewer who watched the Oscars. It was thought that because so many actors are so political people have stopped watching. The audience look to actors for entertainment not being lectured by some liberal actor. I watched a little bit of the show but I don't even know who most of these actors are and I couldn't care less about their political views. I would never let someone like that influence me in any way.
Gary, get advice from someone at Home Depot or somewhere like that. You are the one paying for the flooring and if carpet is what you want go for it. Good luck making the right choice.
Gail, I think the Bush family have a lot of class.
I imagine you will all watch the President this evening.

I watched the speech. I'm cheering! Someone said he walked in as being the person elected to the Office and walked out being the President!
Goodnight!

The Democrats are nit picking about the number of people unemployed. They are forgetting the people who are underemployed. They count them as fulltime workers even if they work a few hours a week and earn minimum wage and have no benefits. The liberals are out of touch with the common people who struggle to make ends meet.

Nancy Pelosi and her cronies were a disgrace last night. The libs are going on about Kerry Ann and feet on a couch, what about the dems with their butts in their seats while the wife of a fallen hero was being applauded? The dems just lost more seats in the next election, they showed their true feelings, arrogance and complete disregard for the USA.

President Trump did his best to reach out to the Democrats and they thumbed their collective snowflake noses at him. If liberals keep doing what they are doing they will lose the next election big time. The American people have had it up to here with petty politics.
