Hi CJ. I know that people say that we all need to get out a lot but I'm like you and don't agree with them. As you know I just like to stay home too. I especially don't like to drive but even if someone did come and get me to take me somewhere I'd still prefer to stay at home. The easy French bread sounds interesting so if you feel up to it could you post the recipe sometime? It's too warm for me to bake right now but it will soon be much cooler and it also would be a great thing to make when ds is here. We could make subs with it or French bread pizza.
Yesterday I started one Christmas hat but then the new pattern for this week in the crochet along was posted and it looked like it woulld be a perfect one for a Christmas hat and it is so I made two. The first I made in Red Heart with Love metallic in what I thought was green and white metallic but on the label it says the "green" one is teal. Looks green to me esp the shiny flecks and it's dark. The other was not in Christmas colors at all just trying to use up some of the yarn I have around esp that which was given to me that used to smell musty but no longer does.This pattern works up very quickly and is very adaptable to do other things with so today I've started one in which I used hdc instead of dc so it would be warmer and on the plain rows that were supposed to be dc I changed them to hdc in the 3rd loop so there would be a couple rows of ridges.It's also very easily adapted to all sizes.I'm planning on making a few of these today subject to what happens when dh gets up. He may have plans to work on organizing the family room and if so I'll help him with that. I do have to spray the thistles. It's been too windy to do that but today is calm so I'll get that done.

Hey CJ!! Gee, I am just catching up. Hope that you did not find me insensitive with all that you have just been through. Its a real emotional roller coaster for sure. I can understand your desire not to go out to face the crowds and nutty traffic. I hear you loud and clear, driving with nuts on the road is no picnic. Yesterday we saw a ton of holiday traffic, thankfully most of it going in the opposite direction. I think its a great idea to make the bread you are hankering for- baking surely is a comfort. What is the easy french bread recipe? Is it WW??
Two very busy days in a row, the beach yesterday and today jelly. We got 2 batches of jelly made, and it came out pretty well. Guess that counts as my crafting today.

Ginny - My comments about going out somewhere for the day came completely from my mind, not at all from reading about your outing, so I didn't think you were insensitive at all  I'm just glad you have family to go out with and enjoy doing things with

CJ- well leave it to me, in my haste.I did not explain myself well...I was just making sure that I had expressed enough care and support to you with the miserable week that you have just endured. Thanks so much for posting the bread recipe, and the one for pizza dough too!! I know of others who make their own pizza- and of course the key to a good pie is the crust. Have you tried this crust recipe? Is it a decent crust??
Ruth - that must be some great hat pattern if you can make several of them in one day!!! Did you and Dh make any progress organizing the family room? Gee, your visit with DS is right around the corner. And its sure hard to believe that tomorrow is September 1. I gather that you are spraying the thistles to keep them from taking over the planet? I know here when thistles grow, I have to pull them , or I will have a whole garden full of them. They sure are prolific.
I am hoping for a quiet day tomorrow.....well with church in the middle. Dh is one of those who has to be out a lot, doing SOMETHING- which might not amount to much. I can keep myself happy with a quiet day or two at home and only a short trip out, if I need that at all. I will say, that I wonder how we will manage when we head out for a week at the shore in a few weeks. I tired of the beach after only 4 hours there the other day. Oh well, guess I will pack my machine and quilt!!!
Hope that Phyl, Sue and Becky are enjoying their weekend...

CJ, thank you so much for those recipe sites! I really love the French bread one. I read a lot of the comments and most are positive ones. There is even one that says the writer of the comment tried it with gluten free flour and it worked. Well I do have a hard time believing that because a lot of people including you said the bread is dense and with gluten free it's gotta be even denser. I have made my own pizza crust from time to time and will probably make some pizza while ds is here.There are just so many possible choices to put on pizza when you make your own.On second thought I probably won't make pizza because I'm sure that on one of the days he's here we'll go to Pizza Ranch. He really likes it and they don't have one there but I'm sure I'll make some for dh in the near future. Ginny, I didn't know your trip was going to be to the shore for that whole week. Yes you better take that machine. I know how much you love sitting on a beach  Yes the hat pattern is very easy. There is one tricky part and I'm not sure I did get it completely right but it looks good so to me that's all that matters although I would love to figure out what the right way is.It is pretty much maybe a two hour hat at the most. I need to practice it with yarn that I don't care about using up which I did for two of the hats but I also did two with yarn I really like and don't want to waste making something that is made wrong. Tomorrow I do have to bite the bullet and get those horns sewn on the Viking hat. I know you all are tired of hearing me say that so I'll get busy.I want to give them to ds while he's here so I can see him laugh so have less than two weeks now to get them on and fix them if they don't end up in the right place. I have to see if dh will try the one for ds on so that I can place the horns correctly while actually on a head. |

Ruth yes I guess its time to get the horns on those Viking hats...they sure sound adorable to me however!! Regarding the other hat, can you really tell that there might be a mistake in them- my way of seeing it is that if there is a part that you did a bit differently but not “according to directions” does it matter? If the hats look good, then let it go and leave them as is. This problem with the pattern could also be a mistake- and you have seen plenty of mistakes in other patterns. Good idea about making pizza using CJ’s recipe. I am completely uninspired with regards to cooking these days. Perhaps making a pizza will change my outlook.
Unfortunately, our trip to the shore will be for an entire week. Think that Dh is banking on that the weather will be less hot (even he is less likely to sit and bake in the sun these days). I am hoping for a time of nice walks, some machine time... some reading...and perhaps some sightseeing. Cannot say that I am particularly looking forward to going, as I will be missing just being home and some of the best weather that we see in the northeast.
Cool start today (54 right now) and a nice day on tap weatherwise. I am accompanying the church pianist this am and have had no time to practice. So I will get there a few minutes early and brush up on the hymns....which thankfully are usually not to tough to get the hang of.
Perhaps later I can take a look at that center star of the quilt and get started on that.

yes the walks, as long as it's not too hot,sound good asdoes the sightseeing. My favorite activity would be reading and of course same as at home, crocheting.I'm sure you'll do great playing your flute at church. I just got a new CD with old favorite hymns sung by George Beverly Shea. I love the old hymns

Ruth - I'm happy you are going to get to visit with your DS soon. I did see those comments on the Easy Peasy French Bread about using gluten flour. Most comments were good and I think if people don't expect a soft well kneaded bread, they will enjoy this quick easy to make fresh bread. I've been following the hurricane coverage. I sure hope our coast is not too affected. I never realized how close the Bahamas were to the Florida coast, guess I didn't pay attention to that in geography class  I do feel for them on that island it looks like they are really going to have a lot of damage. I'm not sure what I'm doing today. Not going out anywhere, but I hope I can get motivated to do something other than just sitting around. I'm so lazy Take care everyone and I hope you get some crafting in. |

CJ, I'm very often surprised at the geographic location of places. I thought I did ok in geography in school but apparently not. I do hope that neither you nor Ginny are too badly affected by this storm.
Well the fire on or near my land is up to over 16,500 acres burned now and only 27% contained. Luckily it's nothing but grass and scrub on ours. I feel bad for those that have structures out there.
Well one more Christmas gift done. I started last night and finished today a Men's checkered brim hat for my sil. Now going to make a camo stripe one for dd's youngest. He likes camo. I have some other little things to make besides theses hats for the guys and v scarves for the girls. Saw a nice idea today...mug rugs...looks like a small actual throw rug with little fringes. You can sit your cup on it and also a couple cookies.It's long enough for both. There is something else too but I'd have to look on my list. I think I'll give everyone one of those along with a mug and a packet of spiced cider or hot chocolate and a small packet of cookies.The woman that posted this is planning on making it for her dialysis team(she's a patient) which is a great idea and would be a great teacher gift or for anyone that has done something for you or who's service you appreciate maybe doctor office receptionist or a neighbor, the doctor themself...anyone with a desk
I'm glad everyone is having a lazy and resting day. It's great to have one of those. Of course most of mine are like that anyway. I'm lazy.

HI CRAFTERS,
I have not done to any crafting probably for about 3 weeks.
I got part of my playpen area cleaned .still have more to do.
My friend Nita still has not gone in for her hip.she just laughs when I try to talk to her. time to let it go. the other night I told her I care,love her and worry about her. she just laughs. told her I didn't want anything to happen to her on the road. she said nothing is going to happen. I said don't say that things do happen.. forget what else was said. I said suffer then.she said I WILL.
she was on a cart in Walmart Friday and said her
she knee and leg hurt like hell. she has not answered my email.she is very independent. probably does not like to be told.
cj it is ok to cry.I DONE IT MANY TIMES. sometimes a big reason,sometimes small reason and sometimes over nothing. I think sometimes it might just be my mood.
you were very overwhelmed,shocked and probably just didn't know what to do. we all would feel the same way.
you will get back to crafting when you are ready. you don't that is ok also. my friend Mary jo is going through the same thing. she has some serious medical problems. phyl.

Mug rugs are a great idea and something easy to personalize. Glad you finished another Christmas gift! Little by little it all gets done
Phyl, straightening the craft area counts as crafting! What a shame that Nita is so stubborn. It would not be an issue if her decision not to seek help did not impact you. I wonder what you will end up doing, if you will go to the retreat together or not.
Now speaking of geography I had to look up if the Bahamas were a territory or a country. (They are a country).
Guess I got my crafting In today talking about quilting with pastors wife.

Phyl, sorry about Nita being so stubborn. I guess we all have to do things in the way we think is best for us even though they may turn out not to be what was best. I just hope she doesn't make the issue worse by ignoring it. It sounds like it's getting worse rather than better. Ginny, you came here as well as talked to your pastor's wife about quilting so you did a lot of crafting today. I got a second Christmas present done today. The hat for dgs is done. Now for the girl's v scarves...well and the finishing work I haven't done yet...won't talk about that  |
