This is a thread devoted to those in their 50s & 60s and beyond who don't have children or grandchildren but live rich, full lives. Please feel free to join our stroll thru life and come back often for support and to share. ************* No word on Liz. Hopefully Gary just forgot and there weren't complications.

Thanks for the start, Karen. Louisville is about 3 hours from here. They left at 10:30 am, made a stop for lunch a d rolled into the office around 2:30 pm. They had to stay until 5pm, so I saw Iggy for dinner. I made a chili and he had a little with some crackers. Apparently, the Chinese restaurant they stopped at for lunch only had fried food. He ate some and got a stomachache. He won’t speak about his food preferences because he doesn’t want to be “that” guy. The basil looks great. I hope the storm misses your DB/DSIL. How are they all doing anyway? I hope Dale has a safe and successful trip to VA. When does he return?
I hope Liz is doing okay.
Becky, I love your new avatar. The indoor thermostat read 69° this morning and we should see temps in the low 80s. I am enjoying this weather before the cooler temps set in. Enjoy your trip to town.
Kathy, I watched the weather channel for a little while this morning. The lines for gas, plywood, sandbags and water were crazy. I am glad all of you are stocked up. Good idea to fill containers with filtered water as well, just in case. So sorry for your DN’s birthday this year. It is definitely going to be a wet one. Stay safe.
Linda, I am sorry the new book was such a disappointment. Maybe the author was going through a bad time when they wrote it. You sure did a lot of house chores yesterday. They can be a grind.
The HVAC technician is here getting the furnace ready for winter, if you can believe that. He has done the checks and is now cleaning it out. I am glad he got here early, so I can get on with my day.

Linda, how are you feeling today? Are the antibiotics still doing their job? How's your knee? I haven't read any Louise Penny, but from what you said, I'm assuming the negativity is not typical. I hope this won't be a trend from here on out. However, if a lot of her readers liked it, I fear that might be the case. Basset hounds are notorious for scarfing down their food and they are also prone to bloat, which makes the behavior more dangerous. With both of my girls we give them just a little at a time. It takes more time and effort because I have to stand there and spoon it into the bowl when she finishes the previous amount, but it works. It also helps that what I cook her has a large amount of water content anyway, so she doesn't have something dry that swells up when it gets in her tummy. I have also seen special bowls that force them to slow down their eating.
I guess you're already making plans, Kathy. I'm sorry to say it doesn't look good. How crazy is it there, or are you staying off the roads to avoid the craziness? Do you have to board up the house or do anything special to get it ready? Are you hearing anything from the folks in NSB? I've seen those wine bottle crafts as well and some of them are really cute. I guess I need to drink more wine and less kombucha because most of our glass is kombucha bottles, combined with things like mayo and pickle jars. If I lived closer to Asheville, I could get my fliptop bottles refilled and wouldn't accumulate so many 12 oz bottles. From what the clerk said at Publix yesterday, it sounded like the 4 week cycle is for everything.
Becky, did you get your hair cut today? Are you stocked up for the weekend? 100 again today for your high? August ends on Sunday and I hope you'll start getting a reprieve then. How are your knees doing? Are you still liking the Inspire?
Glad Iggy got home at a decent time, Chele. Dale was very uncomfortable being "that guy" when he worked in an office and had to go out to functions. But he found ways to be rather discrete about it and did well. I think it was even harder for him when he and his DF would go places together because DF was Mr. Meat and Potatoes and he usually picked the restaurants. But Dale knew he paid the price when he went along with the others and finally decided to listen to his system. Does Iggy have time off for good behavior this afternoon? Good to get the furnace checked out before the mad rush during the first cold snap. Now you know you're good to go. And you have the rest of the day to do what you can't do with a worker in the house. DB/DSIL seem to be loving coastal living. They have just about everything set at the house and even had an inground pool installed that looks really nice. Next project is building a garage/workshop and then I think they will have things the way they want them. Dale got to the flea market around 7:30 and I expect him back by 7 this evening. I also hope Liz is doing ok.
I'm still not sure my Garmin is working properly. My body battery was at 31 when I got up this morning (until this week it had always been 90-100, with 100 being the max). I contacted tech support and the recommended a full reset, which I did. So I guess I won't know until tomorrow morning if anything changed because it loaded the same readings after the reset. When I described the problem, the tech agreed that fluctuations were normal but they shouldn't be that drastic. No kidding! I think I got everything done that needs to be done around the house today, with the exception of vacuuming, which may or may not get done. Arya has fresh ground turkey cooked, along with butternut squash and breakfasts for the next 3 days. I also did a couple loads of laundry because I need to wear my master gardener polo shirt again on Sunday and it was in the dirty clothes after wearing it on Tuesday. We have a pleasant day with high expected in the lower 80s, but expecting 90s back next week. So we got a taste of fall and that may be what we get for a while. I'll post if I hear anything on Liz.

Karen, thanks for the start. It looks like the landfall has shifted quite a bit south, so that it is good news for us. The bad news is that they're still forecasting it to go up the middle of the state. They are saying hurricane force gusts here and strong tropical force winds. They are saying to be in place Sunday night, but we won't feel effects until late Monday and then through Wednesday. There is still a lot of time for the track to change, but that's the latest. It was crowded at Publix yesterday, but not crazy. They didn't have any water though. I'm a bit surprised at how long it's taking the stores to stock up on extra water. Gas is out in a lot of places, but they are expecting shipments on Saturday. Guess I'll be running my car in econo mode for awhile. I have enough in there to last 3 or 4 weeks of normal driving, so I should be okay. Chele, We have plenty of water and food, so I'm staying out of the fray. I decided to just fill the jugs with tap water and we can run them through the filter if we want or use it for other things. We will most likely board up DM's house unless the track changes significantly. DN and his roommates are going to stay at DS's house. I'm sure he'll have a good BD despite the storm. I'm not sure what the NSB people will do. They haven't called for evacuations there and I did hear the weather channel saying Orlando wasn't a good place to evacuate to. That's good that you got the furnace ready for winter. I have a heat pump, so it does both the AC and heat. The heat isn't nearly as good as the furnace we had in the house I grew up in, but we don't need heat that often.
Waving to all. Hope Liz is doing okay.

Hope we hear about Liz.
Hoping for best on hurricane. So far friend , near Jacksonville is staying out. Friend near Trumps place is in high ground and staying but is going to move after this. They just got there last year in time for a hurricane.
Got little lawn mowed and Sprayed it with Miracle Gro. Everything here is looking on the yellow side from extra water washing out nitrogen. Dog is at the groomer at last. He will be happier to be cooler with humid heat here.
Need to get out and get another sympathy card as a friend's husband died from cancer...been in home hospice for a year. Anyone else have an address book full of crossed out names? Depressing..bought a new one.

Kathy, will DM be at your house or will both of you go to DS's? I just saw the 2pm update and it's been upgraded to a Cat 3. There is still a lot of uncertainty as to exactly where it will make landfall, but it defintely looks like it could head through the middle of FL. I'm surprised it's still so difficult to find water and gas there because the governor made it sound like deliveries in potentially effected area was imminent. The Weather Channel has a reporter, who is a UCF grad, in downtown Orlando right now and it looks like there has been a bit of rain. The good thing is it's not Cantore. Coastal Carolinas could get a lot as well and I have several friends living there, so I hope they are all preparing. Linda, we had real issues when DMIL died because her address book had not been kept up to date and there were some people we just couldn't get in touch with. I started keeping mine on computer to avoid all the crossouts. Good to get that lawncare stuff done. Sorry your plants are not happy with all the rain. Will you add some nitrogen or just wait for nature to take care of it, since you know they will dry out at some point?

Karen, they are getting some deliveries, but they're snatched up pretty quickly. I keep hearing that a lot will come in on Saturday. Of course, people can fill other containers the way we used to do it, but the bottled water is more convenient. DN was planning on staying in his apartment, but DS changed those plans to having DN and his roommates stay at her house. DS, DBIL, and I will be at DM's. The NSB crowd still hasn't decided what to do, so my aunt may still come over here. Really hard to make a decision since it could be worse here than NSB. Or not. If I was her, I'd stay at one of my cousin's houses in NSB unless the track changes. I saw the report from the UCF grad and we have been getting some quick showers. I heard Cantore was heading to FL, but they didn't know where yet. Hopefully, not anywhere near here!

Enlighten me! Why don’t we like Cantore?

Chele, we LOVE Cantore. It's just that he always seems to go to the area that will be hit worst. So, if you see him in your neighborhood during a hurricane or snowmageddon, you know you're going to be in major trouble.

Chele, basically what Karen said. If you see him in your neighborhood, run! (although it's probably too late by that time) The track has changed again and now they're saying we won't start getting the impacts until late Monday and it will be Monday-Wednesday. Just saw a guy on the news that said he was in the store a second time since he'd already eaten some of the snacks he bought the first time. I left most of what I bought over at DM's, so I won't have as much of that temptation. Last time, I kept having to shoo everyone away from the bottled water. It's supposed to be for if the power and water go out, not before!
DS got gas on Wednesday and the crazies were already out. She was pulling up to the pump when a guy on foot jumped in front of her and put his card in the reader and stood there blocking the lane. At first she thought maybe he was going to fill up a gas can or something, but he just stood there. A few minutes later his wife pulled up in a truck and they filled it up. DS said she could've filled hers up by the time the wife got there.

Thanks for the start Karen.I hope Gary will let you know something about Liz.
Chele Men just won't speak up for themselves when it comes to eating out and their health.I hope Iggy feels better soon.As the 100 degree days mount up I saw that avatar and I decided I needed it.Problem is it probably won't be very cool by October. It's hard for me to even realize it's going to get cold anytime soon but some people are saying a cold winter is forecast for northern states.
Karen I decided not to get my hair cut today. If I still want to get it cut I may go tomorrow. We are as stocked up as we can do for the weekend.Yes it hit 100 for the 37th day and they are forecasting at least 100 for the next 6-7 days and since we haven't had rain for a couple of days the fire ants returned. They have been on the cat's dry food.I had Kenneth dump it over the fence twice today.I got the Raid out that's not harmful to children or pets and moved their bowl on top of the china cabinet in the LR and watching to make sure they don't come back before I put their cat treats in their bowl.I sprayed the bathroom and it even killed a dirt dobber that has been flying around today. It says it is for 20 different kinds of insects.Kenneth sprayed the Ortho outside all around the house. My knees are still the same and I like the Inspire just not the battery life.I bought a USB port that you can plug 3 different devices into the laptop and I will try that tonight.I have been looking to see if Fitbit puts the one on sale that Kathy has because they are coming out with a new version of it in Sept.I don't know if I would buy it even on sale but I just wondered if they would put it on sale as they phase it out.Since I don't sleep well some nights my Garmin would vary quite a bit from day to day on the body battery.
Kathy I hope it continues to go north of you.I heard on the news that it's moving so slowly but with such forceful winds it might stay around for awhile. The stores here were like that during Harvey. No water on the shelves and HEB got in new shipments every day.Elgin uses a different kind of water and most people buy bottled water rather than use their water.
Karen There is an ACC outside of Elgin on Hwy 290 going towards Austin. They haven't said what happened but they put out a shelter in place tweet at 10:10 this morning and there was a heavy police presence nearby but by 10:20 they cleared it.Would be interesting to find out what went on but it hasn't been on any of the local channels.

Becky, . love the avatar...same here.
The overwatering is from not having rain and constantly having to use hose and irrigation in bad heat.

Becky, it does look like Dorian is going to be very slow and they still don't really know where it's going in Florida. The latest still has it south of us, but now it may move up the coast or even offshore. I vote for offshore. I like your avatar. Can't believe you've been above 100 for so many days in a row.

ex student in Fort Pierce right above Palm Beach says it is landing by her. Worried. That is also Margo a Lago. Kind of ironic that it veered away from right on Puerto Rico and headed for Trump's place.
no liz news?
