Last night they were reporting the whistleblower's attorney had contacted both house and senate committees expressing a desire to speak. A lot hinges on that individual's testimony.
As far as Mayor Pete, I also think he's awesome. It always seemed to me that his biggest hurdle was in not being widely known. He doesn't enjoy the same name recognition as Biden, Warren or Sanders. I have neither read nor seen anything that suggested his being gay was a non-starter. Of course there will always be homophobic voters out there but, I’d like to think Pete's candidacy alone is evidence that we've come a long way.
Not long after his impressive town hall on CNN, I do recall one individual's effusive praise for Mayor Pete followed by the comment “if only he wasn't gay”. I know the comment wasn’t made with any malice but, I remember thinking at the time, wow that's like expressing great admiration of Barack Obama and then saying, if only he wasn’t black.
Like Mayor Pete, I am a happily and legally married gay American. A happy coincidence but, certainly not a reason for my support. Perhaps surprisingly, I am not a far-left progressive. It certainly appears that Elizabeth Warren will be our frontrunner and she will have my vote if she becomes the nominee. Whatever happens, Pete should have a bright future in politics. I remember thinking the same about Obama back n 2004 after hearing his Dem convention speech.

doordie50, that was me. I stand by my remark. Obama had overwhelming minority support. Pete will not get that and he needs it. A lot of minority dissatisfaction rests on his performance as mayor, but I do think homophobia plays an unspoken part in the lack of support from that sector of the population, due to religious convictions. I take issue with conflating my statement with saying "if only Obama weren't black." On to another thing: the ass kissing by the Ukrainian president was truly epic.

I really had to laugh when I read this "transcript." Interesting isn't it that most of the so called transcript released is of the Ukranian President talking about how wonderful and great the JA is. ROTFL!!!

As for democratic presidential candidates, I think we are blessed to have such talent. My favorites are Warren and Mayor Pete, but I could easily vote for any one of them. What a plethora of talented, qualified people! The one I like the least is Castro, and that's not because he isn't talented or qualified, but rather because he turned me off with his uncalled for attack on Biden during the last debate. There's a time and a place for everything, and I thought his timing on that was way off base. As for Warren, I worry that people will think she's too far left. With Mayor Pete, I worry that people will think he doesn't have enough experience. However, every time he speaks he is thoughtful, articulate, and clearly very knowledgeable. No matter who ends up with the nomination, there are going to be some people who find something to disapprove of about him or her. But I feel that we have a Dream Team to choose from. Let's just hope that in the end we choose the one who can truly inspire people, get them out to vote, and WIN!

Lani, I was sharing my personal opinion and experience. I didn’t call you out. And though offended, I was quite careful to say I was sure the comment wasn’t said with malice. I won’t ask you to try and understand what the “if only he wasn’t gay” and “being gay is insurmountable” feels like or how it might offend. I can only tell you that my heart sank when I read those words. The closest analogy or equivalent for me (then as now), is my Obama remark. It is word for word my exact thought and one which I shared honestly yesterday. There’s not much any of us can do about how we’re born after all.
As to the unfolding scandal and impeachment... After early yesterday morning, I never got a minute to watch or read anymore news until after 11pm. I was blown away by how much more had come to light well in advance of the DNI and whistleblower testimony. This president is so corrupt, I really hope republicans will be forced to vote on impeachment.

I SO hope this JA really is coming down. For the disgrace and anguish he has brought this country, I personally would like to see him behind bars for the rest of his life.
I love our thread, and social media can be a wonderful thing. I have made friends all across the US that without social media I would have never had the opportunity to meet. The downside to it, however, is that when we only see someone's words and not their voices or inflections we can sometimes miss a lot. As for Mayor Pete, he does have a challenge in some parts of the country and among some voters just as Elizabeth has a challenge for being a woman, Booker and Castro have the challenge of race, and Kamala has a double challenge. I wish none of that were true. I'm 70 years old, and most likely I will never see a day when that is not the case. It gave me hope when Obama was elected. It gives me a lot of hope to see how well Mayor Pete and EW are doing in the polls. I have to believe that change is coming, and that my grandchildren will see a day when people are judged for their character and their abilities. Because if not, what good is any of this? I tried to instill that in my daughter, and I believe she is doing a good job instilling it in my DGKs. Surely we can never have too much love or intelligence. The Democratic party is supposed to be the party of diversity, and I am proud of that.

doordie50 , I tried not to get all defensive, but it probably came across that way. I am sorry that the political process is throwing this prejudice in your face. I donated to Pete's campaign early on and I do think he is the adult in the room. I also don't think he has a chance. I think prejudice against the LGBT+ community is right up there with racism as being hard to change. I hope for a better future. Now on to the hearing. I watched for a while. It doesn't look good to me. We already know where the Republican congress stands and I don't think any minds will be changed with you-know-who's supporters. I fear Nancy was right all along not to go down this path. ETA: After checking back at the end of the testimony, the moving of the original transcript to the super-secret server seems like the definition of a cover-up. If it didn't involve an intelligence question why put it in the most secure place?

I missed most of the testimony with the flooring contractor here for 2 1/2 hours but, from what I did see, I agree it was ugly.

I am the definition of a flip-flopper when it comes to the impeachment proceedings I suppose. But if this JA has not earned impeachment, then what the heck is the point of having the process in the Constitution in the first place? If he hasn't committed "high crimes and misdemeanors" then I don't know what that term means. In my opinion, he is a traitor to his country and would gladly sell us all out to the highest bidder if he can pocket the proceeds. Then I look at how nasty the impeachment process is going to get, how angry Republicans (or at least his base) are going to be, and ask myself if it is really worth it if we can get him voted out of office. Maybe Nancy was right before in not pursuing this. Who knows? But, then I go back to if we don't stand up for our Constitution then why bother to even have it. Gosh! I wish George, Thomas, Ben, and the rest of them would just send down an announcement on CNN and tell us what they really would do. LOL! Of course, I expect what they'd tell us is that they'd have been too smart to put this JA in the WH in the first place.

So I just learned that making the "OK" hand sign is now considered a hate symbol. The world is just getting too complicated for me.

Lol. In the land of the upside down, where we live these days,if "OK" is a bad thing does that mean the "other" hand gesture is a good thing?
Is anybody else getting a kick out of The Traitor In Chief rambling on about what was done to traitors like him in the good old days?
Know what? I do believe he could stand on a corner in NYC and do what he said he could do and nothing would be done about it. His worshippers would still support him.
Terrifying, isn't It?

I hope Biden does not win the nomination because trump will do to Biden what he did to Hilary.

OK sign: also used to celebrate a 3 point shot in basketball.
Now it appears that many of DTs transcripts have been "locked down" in the coded server since 2017 after transcripts were leaked. You know that's going to be the defense - have to outwit leakers.

I hope Biden does not win the nomination because trump will do to Biden what he did to Hilary. I think whether Biden wins the nomination or not, if he's left in office Trump is going to make it his mission to destroy both Biden and his son. Of course, he'll do the same for whoever wins the nomination as well. Destruction is all he knows, it's how he's conducted himself all his life. He has nothing to offer himself so all he knows to do is try to destroy everyone and everything else. I utterly despise him.
