CJ, good to see you as always. I'm glad you're getting a nice breeze. There was a nice cool one coming in here earlier but not now. It's hot in my house.Tomorrow is to be cooler
Yes that sounds like a dream I woud have since I'm always worried about what to serve to company. I usually dream that I'm at work
I did try the hair clip thing today to hold pompom in place and it works great. The pom doesn't wobble at all and it will be easy to take off and put back on and won't catch in the person's hair.
Started a hat last night and wondered why it was turning out so very small. Well finally read over the pattern again and found that I missed a row of increasing. Usually the increases are all together but this hat has you do several rows of increase, then a row of fpsc, then another row of dc increase. I just evidentally went by rote and automatically just did a row of dc around with no increases. So I've ripped it out back to that point and will now finish it and it will be the size I intended

Oh I got pictures last night of dgd opening her gifts. One of the things I made for her was a crochet slice of birthday cake.In the picture it looked like her 20 month old brother was trying to eat the cake.

The temperature is only 56 degrees right now. We've had rain. I'm a happy camper! The house will take a while to cool down, but right now it feels good.
Yesterday at quilting I started another scarf. It's charcoal gray and purple. I'm making it wider and longer than usual and plan to file back the ends to make pockets. Should be interesting. It's a variation on something one of the other quilters is knitting. Mine is crochet. Yesterday there were more knitters than quilters!
Today I saw the oculoplastic surgeon. He's going to do the procedure in two weeks. I will be very happy. He'll be removing several chalazion (clogged tear ducts) from my left eyelid. I'll be able to drive home.
Ruth, I read that your fire is about 88% contained. Hopefully you'll get some of our rain. That would put an end to lingering embers.

Sue, it's sstill 80 here but it's clouding over and I can see rain cming this way. I'm glad to hear that you are having the procedure. I know you'll be glad to have it over with. I didn't know you had so many resources there...we sure don't have an oculoplastic surgeon here. As far as I know we still have only one opthalmologist that does any kind of surgery here. YOur scarf sounds beautiful.
I just looked out...it's already raining

Good evening!!
CJ- any news from your family in the Tidewater area?? Bet they are glad that Dorian is out to sea. (Think we all are!). Ok, we are all coming over for dinner and do not care what we eat!!! Ha ha ha....but cooking for unexpected guests is always a challenge. How were your beans and ham today?
Sue, that is indeed good news that you can have the clogged tear ducts removed in a short span of time like that. Bet it will be a relief to you when its all over.. And hurray for cooler temps and some rain. None of us are looking forward to cold winter and snow, but summer heat is so draining.
Ruth, That rain will sure be helpful to put our the rest of the wildfires in your area. The picture of Dgd looking at the piece of birthday cake (crochetted of course) sounds adorable! The hair clip holding a Pom Pom sounds like such a great idea. I have made Pom Pom hats for DGD and the Pom Pom did not survive washing....this seems to solve that problem.
Ran an errand today....and had a contractor over to investigate replacing some windows. Then we had to go to Lowes, stopped in to visit DD#2 and her Dh. Good to see them.....I did take inventory of my fabric for my BOM, and am sure that now I have what i need to finish the quilt. Just wanted to make sure as they do not have much fabric left from the BOM fabrics at the shop. Its a bit scarey thinking about finishing this massive project.
Ok time to get some sleep. Ginny

Hello Crafters I'm glad to hear everyone seems to be doing pretty well, just busy with all the things in our lives I haven't talked to my relatives in Virginia, but hopefully they are O.K., looks like they just got rain and wind. But the poor Outer Banks really got hit. I've been reading about the damage on the websites I check out for down there. My aunt (by marriage) was born on Ocracoke Island, I feel so bad for the people living there. I've often thought about moving to the Outer Banks, but I know it's not the most realistic idea for me I've been enjoying the green beans, they turned out well and I finished eating my sweet treats from the Amish Market. I need to get back to focusing on healthy eating. Hope everyone has a great weekend!

Just got part way through a post and poof!!!! Its gone
Phyl- housework is very patient and will wait for you. Hope you do not overdo getting ready for the retreat. I am sure you will come back with great memories and good stores to tell. Be safe and have a great time.
CJ- no my dream location for you to retire to was not the OBX!!! Think a bit more maintenance free location would be better, not one that is so prone to hurricanes. Does your aunt still live in Ocracoke? Yes, I heard that got hit pretty hard. I am hoping that the rest of the barrier island was not hit so hard, as the storm seemed to turn eastward once it made landfall at Hatteras. Glad you enjoyed the goodies front the Amish market. And they usually have such unique things to purchase,
Got some of the center star assembled. Hope to finish the rest of the star this weekend. Ginny

Hello to all. Sounds like everyone is keeping busy. Ginny, I do hope you can get the block done this weekend as you're hoping. CJ, I truly hope all your family is ok. Sue, the rain last night here didn't amount to anything. Rained for about 5 min at most
Well I've been doing a little cleaning today but also working on this weeks CAL hat pattern mostly because some woman posted saying "who votes with me that this is the worst pattern in this series".I thought that was a little rude. It's an interesting hat and uses a lot of post stitches and I guess that was her issue. I love doing post stitches and found this pattern to be one of the easiest the leader of this group has posted. It's a little more time consuming than some of the others and some have said it uses a lot of yarn. I don't know but to me that's a good thing because I need to get some of this used up so I can buy some of the newer yarns that have come out.

Hey Ruth, well the way I see it, any pattern that allows you to use up yarn that you have had around the house is a good pattern- cause it uses up yarn and allows you to buy some of the cool newer yarns. They are so tempting and pretty.... I guess a better way of referring to this week CAL pattern would have been to say that she struggled with the pattern or found it frustrating to work with. What one crafter likes the other may not....and this pattern is obviously a case of that. I am happy that for your sake, this pattern comes easily.
Well got 3 of the 4 rows done of the center star, and hope to finish the rest tomorrow. Then its on to the sashing...which will be interesting. It did not look too hard in class. Ha ha ha.
We went to a HS football game this evening, the HS that Dh attended. Time for me to get some sleep. Good night all G

Good morning Ginny and the rest of our lovely group. It's pretty cool here today..only 55 degrees right now and a little foggy.
Yes, you're right about the yarn usag.e and about how that woman should have worded her statement. Some others did mention their problems with it in just the way you suggested. My problem with it was my own fault not that of the pattern itself. I'm so used to doing post stitches where you put the front posts into the front post stitch in the previous row and back stitches the same and also alternating fp, bp that when I allowed my mind to wander I found myself doing that without thinking and ended up taking out some rows because of it so I'm still not done but have only three more rows to do. I had originally visualized myself starting another one last night. That didn't happen.Of course I had several long interruptions with going out to do some yard work, doing laundry and cooking etc. These pesky household chores keep getting in the way.
Ginny, I'm glad to hear you got so far on the center star. I hope the sashing does end up being as easy as it seemed in class. That would be great. It will be great to have it completely done too so that you can look at your beautiful completed quilt. Having a skill like being able to create such beauty is really something to be thankful for

Hello Crafters - Hope you are all doing well today Sounds like everyone has been getting some crafting in, I'm happy to hear that. I'm hoping as it continues to get cooler I can work on my crochet shawl and get that finished. There is a hand quilting class in October at a quilt shop that is about 40 minutes from where I live. I'm really tempted to take the class, but I'm just not sure. I may go visit the shop later this month and maybe by then I'll have decided if I want to register or not. I'll check out the Slow Sunday Stitching blogs today to see what everyone is working on. Ginny - I did check the blogs out last weekend too, I forgot to mention that when I posted My aunt that I mentioned passed away many years ago. She was a very nice woman and I enjoyed visiting with her when we got to see her. It's sunny and I think it will be in the 80s here today. The house is actually cooler than the outside temps for one of the few times this summer. I'm happen to get to open the curtains and blinds and let some light in and also not to have to listen to the constant noise of the fans running. Take care everyone and have a great day!

A T storm is scheduled to arrive around four this afternoon and then rain all night and at least part of tomorrow. I think I'd better shut off the sprinklers! The sprinkler guy isn't supposed to blow out the sprinklers until October 1. Maybe I'll move up the date!
I'm enjoying working on the charcoal gray and purple scarf. There isn't a pattern that's emerging, but the purple is doing some interesting pooling.

I forgot to mention that my newest great grandchild will be born on Tuesday. At least that's when they're inducing labor. If she is born that day she will be born on her oldest cousin's birthday. He will be 3 that day and the other cousin will be 3 three weeks later. I have an appointment to have various things done on my car that day. If she's born while I'm out I'll stop at the hospital to see her.
