Well this is funny! RH still makes Aran fleck yarn?? I have some from a few years back and love this color....its subtle but very pretty. I am sure some man will love that hat, Ruth. Good to know that they still make that color, as it is a favorite of mine, and can be used for many different projects.
Hope that Ds arrives safely and on time tomorrow, Ruth. I am sure it will be a blessing to see him face to face, there are just somethings that are better said in person. Its been a year since he has visited- a long and busy year. How long is he staying?
Walked this am with Dh. Going shopping tonight with Dd#2- just a few things, not a big trip. Right now I am enjoying some lovely fall weather. If our weather station is correct its 72 degrees with a lovely breeze. Perfect weather. Now it looks like there is another storm in the tropics, with a possibility of striking where we are supposed to be vacationing. Whatever.... if we stayed home and I quilted it would be just as good for me. Dh would not like that though
Hope to stop back later. Think all the crafting I am going to get done today will be shopping in Michaels.

It's beautiful fall weather here too. I'm glad you're enjoying it with taking a walk with your dh. Have a good time shopping with your dd
Son actually was here two years ago so it's been a long time. He's also only staying a week...he leaves next Saturday.
Yes they sure do still sell aran fleck. It was on sale on Amazon awhile back and I bought a bunch. I though I didn't like it but I do. As you said it goes with most other colors,and it's also great used alone, and although I thought it was going to be a scratchy yarn, it isn't at all. I really like it now and wish I had more.
I think I have all my work done now. Of course there's always cooking, dishes, sweeping floor, etc before and after meals. I also have laundry still going because I'm washing blankets too since it's supposed to be pretty cool while son is here. Dh and I are already using our blankets. I do have to decide if I'm going to cook in advance so I have to make up my mind what to serve tomorrow. I was thinking of making calzones but they're a lot of work although I have sauce in the freezer I can use so don't have to make that part. We'll see.

Hello Crafters  Ruth - I hope everything goes well with picking up your DS tomorrow and that he has a safe trip. I'm sure that your DS will just be happy to see you and get some of his mother's home cooking Ginny - Hope all the shopping goes well today. Hope things work out for your vacation. This time of year is so nice to go away, but weather along the east coast is never certain, is it? I'll probably call a fence company next week to set up an appointment for a free estimate. If it does cost less than I got I will take that extra for my anxiety from the accident. Every time I hear a noise outside now I tense up waiting for something to happen at my house. Sounds like we are all having some nice weather today. It's cloudy here, but only in the low 70s with a light breeze. I've had the windows open all day and it's so nice not to be closed up in a hot house. Yesterday was miserable. I do love my weather gauge and wouldn't mind having another upstairs in the house. I guess I'll look into getting a new one. I got this one at Costco, so I might see what they have. The current temperature showing on my gauge today is -40 degrees (below zero) with a forecast for snow  I've been getting a laugh out of it all day especially since yesterday it was registering 90 degrees I'm going to try to decide this weekend if I'll take the hand quilting class that's in October. I noticed that there are only 5 seats left (I think out of 10). I have taken a few other hand quilting classes, so it would be nice to take a class where everything wasn't new to me. I just want to make sure that I'll still want to go when the class comes up next month. The quilt blog hop ended today, so I checked out the last of the blogs that were linked. The most popular block seems to be the Churn Dash. I really like that block a lot too. Take care everyone! |

Churn dash is a really cute quilt- and one of those patterns that changing the color scheme really can make a dramatic difference in the look of the quilt. Can you still check out the blogs once the blog hop ends?? You do find the most unique sites for quilting. When i have the time, its nice to see what others are doing. CJ -perhaps its time for a new weather station, but that minus 40 degree reading sure would have angered most during the recent heat wave! Oh, and CJ- I do hope that you decide to take the hand quilting clas. Think its right up your alley.
Ruth, wow, its been 2 years since Ds was visiting you?? Sounds like its time that you took a break and can enjoy your time with Ds. Prayers for safe travel for all- as he flies and gets to and from the airport. I hope its a great visit- and you get some wonderful memories of from your time together. Isn’t it great that RHSS is now dye lot free?? So if you wanted to order or buy more of that really versatile and pretty Aran yarn, it would be fine and everything would match.
Successful shopping trip with Dd....we both got a lot accomplished.
Now its time to get some sleep. Night all.

Yesterday was the celebration of life for my quilting and museum friend. There were probably 200 people. The activities were held at the museum in the auditorium and at the living history homestead. There is a blue spruce at the latter which was planted in memory of my late husband. Several of the docents from my years were there. What a wonderful way to come together!
hb was a basket case by the time I got home. He had gone up to the cabin with J Caregiver, and I had to leave before they returned. He thought he needed to feed the dogs and couldn't remember where I was. I had fed the dogs. All's well, but it was a good reminder that he needs someone with him more of the time.
We're going to have three days of 80+ degree weather before a week of weather in the 60s and lows in the 40s. Some of the leaves are turning gold in response to shorter days, but the best is yet to come.

Wow, 200 people - she must have been an exceptional person. How nice that you were able to see the tree planted in your late DH's memory too. I love it when the leaves start changing color. It's still -40 degrees (below zero) here at my house Actually I think it's supposed to be in the 80s today and it feels more humid. I probably won't open the windows today and just try to keep the cooler air in the house. Not much going on here. I printed off the supply list for the hand quilting class so I can see how many items I already have. It lists a 14 inch quilting hoop and wouldn't you know I have several 12 inch hoops but no 14 inch hoop! Ruth - I hope the trip and back to the airport goes well and that you enjoy visiting with your son when he gets there. Phyl - Hope you made it back from your retreat and I'll be interested to hear how it went and what you worked on. Take care everyone! |

Sue, that sure does sound like a lovely service in remembrance of your quilting/museum friend. Sounds like she had a life well lived, and that she was an active and vibrant person. Bet it was a comfort to you to be in the company of others who felt the same way about her. Sorry that Dh took your absence so hard, but its good to see that you understand that he needs someone with him more- but are still permitting time off for yourself. That is so important.
CJ- shall I send some sweaters to you? Its so cold in your house at -40!!! Stay comfy through the increasing warmth. Hope it cools off soon. I would call the quilt shop and see if your 12inch hoop works ok. SOmetimes they will accomodate changes like that. Thanks for the link for the bloggers....will get there tomorrow.
Ruth, hope your visit with Ds is going well and that he arrived safely.
Phyl- how was the retreat??
Dd came over- so no crafting for me.....busy day, but good to see her.

Sue, sounds like a wonderful memorial to your friend. And I'm sorry to hear that your dh was so distressed when he didn't remember where you were but I'm glad you're able to get out. You need that.
CJ, that's so funny that your house is -40 degrees. I hope you can get a new weather station.
Yes son arrived safely with no delays at all and we had a great day together.I'm not sure what we'll be doing tomorrow but I guess all my dd's kids are in town so it's possible we may go and see all of them.
While visiting with ds I made a baby hat. I finished one that I started last night this morning before going to the airport. This week's pattern is so fast and easy that it takes no time at all to make one. Pattern writer said that if you want to make one smaller to use a smaller hook don't do less increase rows because theat will affect the outcome of the pattern. Well that's not true at all. It's a mulitple of two so there is no problem with increasing less rows.Same with making it larger. In other words it's easy to adjust with whichever method you like best.
Hopefully I'll be able to stop in here tomorrow. I don't see why not.Take care all

Ruth, so glad your Ds arrived safely- and I hope that you are able to enjoy a family visit. Those can be tough to orchestrate when families no longer live close to each other.
Dd#2’s wedding pictures just became available to view, and I too was struck by how we finally got “everyone together” for a picture. Enjoy the time with Ds.

Visits with family members, fixing fences, crafty activities. You all sound busy! I'm putting off grocery shopping for another day!
More about the celebration of life. My friend was modest about her accomplishments. At 75 she could still blush. She is the person who took me for my toe surgery and waited until it was over and brought me home, then took me for my followup appointment, picked me up for quilting until I was able to drive. She was the person who dragged me out of isolation and invited me to be part of the quilting group. She was very bright but never boastful. One of the very few people I know who could keep a confidence! Although I first met her 25 years ago at the museum, I didn't know her well until three years ago. Like many of those at her celebration of life, I didn't know very much about her family life. She never missed a game or event for her four grandchildren. She took each on a special trip to a big city as a high school graduation present. And she had an impish smile that was captured in countless photographs that her daughter had enlarged. Her daughter is 47 and has become a member of the quilting group. Most of us have three decades on her, but this is a really good fit. When my irises bloom next June, I will be reminded of her. The rhizomes from her yard were a gift from her in 1998 after my late husband's death. They multiplied in the back raised beds, and I moved them to the front yard about five years ago.
I've been touring the back and front yards, mainly looking at the countless aspen roots that are interfering with lawn mowing. I'm going to take photos from a variiety of angles, so I can do some planning this winter. I know what I want to do in the back, but there are two major areas in the front that need some modification. When most people remodel and update, they think in terms of their house. I'm thinking about the yard! I'm thinking about creating paths around part of the backyard, but I'm contemplating taking things one step farther and paving the road in back and the path. I need some estimates. It would be very easy to turn the downstairs into an apartment for me at some point. No stairs, I could incorporate the garage to provide more space. Just thinking. With the availability of Uber, staying in my house even if I can't drive, becomes a possibility.
I would add a lot of dirt in half of the backyard to create some variation in height. Get rid of the grass in that half. Put in a shade garden area with hostas and ferns, a rock garden in the sunny part with sedums and sempervivums. Places to sit in several areas.

Again, my condolences on the passing of a most wonderful and inspiring friend. Sounds like she really lived life well and to the fullest. What a joy and honor for you to have known someone who was so very special. Also a blessing that her daughter is in your quilting group, so that a small piece of your friend lives on and you can provide comfort for each other. You sure have some great plans for your home and property!! Honestly its a good idea to consider single floor living (unless you want a stair lift put in). Its something that Dh and I can do with our home, should that become necessary. (Would miss my upstairs though!). Love your landscaping ideas....a great thing to think about and plan when winter sets in. Perhaps you can get estimates now, to give you time to mull over things during the winter.
Another Monday is around the corner.
Hung some pictures and a lovely wreath today (got the wreath from Hobby Lobby). so that was my crafting today. Ha ha ha.
Also discussed quilting after church with my friend there...so I did get some crafting in. Sort of
