Trying this out to see if I can start the March thread--but really don't know if what I am doing is right!
Just called my pulmonologist to see if he can see me today---this wheezing and bronchial cough is so bad that my whole rib cage and diaphragm are sore today and really hurt when I cough. Am afraid it is going into actual bronchitis. Then my yoga teacher told me that there is a terribly rough upper respiratory infection going around and not to wait---so we'll see---the nurse is supposed to call me back---not a good sign since they probably have no open slots.
Woke up with coughing several times in the night. Ugh!
Lovely sunny day here---wish I could be out in it.

Short and sweet goddesses is a thread especially for us "Short n' Petite Gals". As "Short n' Petites", we have our own issues. Our goals are lower, and as we all know, a 5-pound loss or gain can make a huge difference on a Short n' Petite. We are here to support and encourage one another, so please feel free to join us!

Hi!
Joan, sorry you are so sick! Did you get to see the pulmonologist? Hope you are getting some relief. I'm surprised you never read the Handmaid's Tale, I read it when it first came out many years ago. Thanks for starting our March thread.
Jojo, you are really making good use of your spiralizer!
Holly, is your BP down now?
The weather is still warm here, but they say there might be snow tomorrow. So weird.
Tuesday night we did a lot of prep for the school restaurant because we were expecting 20 people on Wed and 20 tonight. Well, there was some rain yesterday, and people canceled and we went down to 6 people! It ended up being an easy night and I got home before 9pm, yay! We'll see what happens tonight, I think it's 18 people now who are supposed to come.
Dessert and Plating class, my partner and I made black currant Bavarian (kind of of creamed gelatin) with joconde sponge cake and some fruit sauces. Today is plate up.
Weight dipped to 117.9 this morning! Good to see, I must try to keep it down.

Sue, looks like you got it right. I forgot about the month change. Thanks for starting the new thread.
Ready for the weekend. My BP is still good. I have to do some additional tests though to rule out a couple of things.
Joan, I liked The Handmaid's Tale a lot. Couldn't really get into Inferno, but loved the other books by him.
JoJo, I got a shipment in from KnitPicks. I got a bunch of different colored yarn for dishcloths. It's called Dishie, and is very soft.

Just it was Joan who started it, oops. I hope you can get some answers on the cough.
Sue, keep up the good work on the weight.

Hi!
Relaxing day for me, did not do any homework today! Now that I no longer have internship at the restaurant I have more free time, yay!
Last night we had 18 people at the school restaurant. I had 11 of the 18 entrees. This week, the trout en papillote was more popular than the pork dish. My rotation on main course is over, the last 2 weeks of school I'm on desserts. Not crazy about it since I'm not a sweets person, but I've been planning on how to make it work for me. From my dessert and plating class, you can go overboard with all the little garnishes, sauces and accompaniments, each dish we plate up has 5-7 elements on it.
I'm bringing home a lot of dessert items left over from class and SO is loving it, he loves sweets.
We got some snow today, weather is wacky, 70's during the week and now in the 30s. I went to the gym, oh, and weight back up to 119. It's ok, as long as I see it going down to a new lower number, I know it can happen again.

Morning,
Just sitting here enjoying my coffee. Going to get on the bike in a little bit.
Need to get my taxes ready for the accountant, pay bills, the usual boring stuff.
Sue, good attitude on the weight. I bet the desserts are yummy.
Joan, have you read Hidden Figures? I just started it. It's supposed to be really good.

Thanks, Sue for adding the header post---I forgot about that! Glad I got the March thread right tho'!
Sue, I read The Handmaid's Tale when it came out in mid 80's---loved it then. I am interested in re-reading it in light of the attitude toward women's rights again in this time. Also thinking about temporarily signing up for Hulu so I can watch the new movie version they are going to air sometime this month I think. Have to look it up.
Holly, I've had a revival of interest in Dante after finding my old college notes--so I decided to do the book for that reason---I'm not terribly impressed---so, so much repetition in the book---and sometimes I feel as tho' Dan Brown wrote it just to show off how much he knows about the buildings whereas in Angels and Demons I felt that knowledge was really imbedded in the story. Still, I was in Florence and in Venice so it's been a kick to revisit the places--even found an old photo I took of the ceiling of the baptistery in Florence where they found the mask in the story--I loved that cathedral because of the green and white striped outside marble. But I'm about 3/4's through it and honestly have to push myself to finish it. Not a sign of a really good book, huh?
I didn't read Hidden Figures but so loved the movie---bought the book for my former teacher friend's 75th birthday and thought I might pitch it to Book Club.
Sue, congrats on the weight---I'd be in such trouble with your desserts--OMG I am such a sweets person. When you have so many no shows what do they do with all the prepped food?
Thursday the pulmonologist put me on 12 days of prednisone--60 mm/day for 3 days and then tapering every three days after. A Zpak of antibiotics for 5 days, Advair for 4 weeks. Then I switch to a Singulare daily to see if it takes care of the allergy thing I have going. Yesterday I had FUp for carotid ultrasound---no change in those since 2008 but because my cholesterol is 207 for the first time ever, I have three months to get it down before they will do another blood test---she gave me a list of foods to no longer have so I think I may finally drop my 10 pounds---my denial gain--can't deny the numbers any more---she said I'm eating way too many eggs--doesn't even want me to have egg whites as she claims they tend to raise triglyceride numbers---mine are not too high but they were so low before that they actually doubled---almost no avocado even---weird cause I always though that would be good cholesterol and would help the ratio---no sweet pastry, no fried stuff---she wants me eating oatmeal in the mornings--so I started today---I think they got my attention! Their goal is to never have me on meds other than my BP med which is a forever thing--and I like that plan! Have always been proud of minimal medicine prescriptions.
Anyway, after the first 60 mm of pred. I was already breathing better---went from 6 treatments a day to two! Even drove myself to the dr. Yesterday===first time I've driven in five days! Stopped at TJ's also. Last night I used my five pound weights and did about 25 reps of the different lifts---so so worried about losing all my muscle mass quickly and my arms have been getting so good. I'm going to try to plant about a dozen veggies today that are awaiting planting but not doing any more as I'm worried about overdoing and relapsing. Still coughing a bit but so different from the nightmare before! Now DH seems to be getting it---could tell he was starting to wheeze last night so I am giving him a b.treatment now---he didn't argue so I know he's feeling it too.
Holly, I have tax appointment in about a week---so I also have to start organizing my paperwork. Should be easier this year as no hearing aides purchased so I won't have a med.deduction possible. That is a ton of work figuring out mileage, cost of prescriptions, number of visits, etc.
I watched Jimmy Kimmel with George Bush last night after DVR'ing it---wish he had allowed the public to see the personality he showed on that show---he seemed so down to earth and personable---I don't think he was ever that way in public events as president. He was laughing so hard and I loved his book of veterans portraits he was plugging---two of the vets in the book were in the audience. Was really cool.

Joan- wonderful that you are feeling better! Those high prednisone doses always make you feel so much better - but remember don't let it trick you into overdoing it. I think I would have gotten better quicker if I had gone in to my own doc and gotten the Advair I usually take when I get sick.
Sue - make a good dessert for me! I love sweets! Funny, my wt. was down to 123 yesterday for some unknown reason but I figure that it won't stay - like yours Sue.
Holly I got some of that yarn to make covers for my Swifter. I really like it! I try to stay to the acrylic, cotton, or silk/nylon. Don't do any of the wool or other natural fibers that you have to be so careful about washing, shaping, and drying.
Exercises done, carpet vacuumed, meal made(homemade vegetarian soup, cornbread, and carrot cake) for my DS's BD celebration. Interested to see how the cake tastes. I used the spiralizer to prepare the carrots and the Vitamix to prepare the pinapple and dates for the cake. The recipe says tat you can substitute pureed dates for the sugar in it - so I did,. DS won't eat the icing so I only iced half of it with the cream cheese icing. Right before serving I will decorate it with spiralized carrots dipped in sugar!

Hi!
Sunny day today. Did some homework, will go to the gym soon. Some food prep and laundry, too.
Holly, glad you are relaxing and taking it easy.
Joan, SO has a series of paintings based on Dante's Inferno, each painting is one of the levels. Glad you are feeling better, and take it easy, don't do too much so you can get back to 100%! We get to take the prep work from the school restaurant home unless it can be frozen or kept for the following week. For instance I took home the shaved Brussels and spinach that went with the pork dish and sauteed last night for me and SO.
Jojo, the date substitute sounds interesting. You got a lot done today already.
The past 2 days I've been eating guacamole toast with fried egg on top, yum! I learned how to flip the fried egg in the pan without using a spatula from my internship, I was so excited to be able to do it, haha.
Weight down, 118.1 this morning.

Hi all,
I watched the Duke-Carolina basketball game last night. It was a great game, and of course, I was happy that Carolina won. Looking forward to watching the tournaments.
I did the bike yesterday, and resistance bands. The cardiologist told me to get 30 minutes of exercise daily. Now that I am over being sick and past the teeth extraction surgery, I can focus on that.
JoJo, I found a knitting pattern for a swiffer cover, so I'm working on one now. Great idea!

Hi!
Nice sunny day here, but cold. First week of no internship on Sunday! I'm enjoying having my Sundays back again. Started on another research paper for school. Kind of easy for me, it is supposed to be on any restaurant in the city, and there are dozens I could write about, but I picked out the one that I think is the best restaurant right now.
Holly, glad your team won. I have the Phillies spring training games on in the background as I multi-task, and at least they're too terrible so far.
Last night we went next door to a gallery opening a new exhibit, literally right next door to our condo. We were there less than an hour, just had to make an appearance since SO has had some dealings with the gallery owner and it's good for him to show some support.
Will go to the gym soon. More food prep tonight. Tomorrow SO is getting eye surgery for cataracts, in doing so, the dr is also fixing his near sightedness, this means that while he won't be near sighted anymore, he'll have to use readers like I do now.

Wow, Sue, he's going to love his surgery results! All my friends ditched their glasses or at least their bifocals like that and they said the clarity was unbelievable---and two friends said the change in how they saw color was the greatest perk. Guess it makes sense that it would distort color since it is an opaqueness. DH found out his one eye has to have a cataract removed---it grew fast as it was only two years ago that it was just starting. Darn, wish I could have it as I would love to have my eyes improved so I could have cheaper glasses without the thin polycarbon that costs so much and limited the type of frame I can have. But I guess there has been no change on my one eye he thought could go that route. Oh I ordered an extra pair of cute glasses---I hope-- from Zenni Optical on line---have never done that before but DH said he didn't mind if I blew $100 on them as a trial---if they work right I could have a "jewelry" effect with my glasses! I ordered a red front frame with black bows---I so often love to wear red and black so I thought it would be fun. they have been processed but no word of shipping yet.
So when you write about the restaurant do you approach it from the aspect of a restaurant critic's review? Just curious.
Holly, glad you are getting bike use---I'm just not good at that stuff on my own---I think I am the social creature who is attracted to the gym friendships and get the exercise as a perk!
Did my first day being right on target with the food avoidance list---no sugar at all, wow, down a pound this morning -- probably tells a big tale about me!
DH is full into this cold thing now. I am doing laundry, cleaned out the litter box, put away clothes, dishwasher emptied---think I will rent The Heat with rude Melissa McCarthy---need a good laugh! I did start The Handmaid's Tale---it's ominous.
Very windy here today so I cannot plant my veggies and supposed to get cold tonight of all things so will bring the box of them in the house tonight. This morning my Vancouver, BC friend posted a pic on FB--it snowed like crazy again! I think we are the bottom edge of that storm and is why it's getting chillier tonight. Then by about Wed or Thursday it's supposed to be 74! Crazy.
Holly were you sick on top of the result of teeth being pulled? If so, I'm sorry--didn't realize that!
My neighbor's chicken soup is good but it has homemade pasta noodles in it---I find them just too dense and heavy---so am dishing up a bowl and fishing out the noodles and eating the rest---very tasty but too heavy for me with the noodles. DH liked them however.
