Hi all,
I have fallen off the bandwagon with the bike with last week's travel and working late last night. Looking forward to getting back on it tonight. I really do feel a difference when I don't get some form of vigorous exercise.
Sue, that's not good. Does your dad have a lifeline button to wear in case he falls or something happens? I turned in my taxes yesterday to the accountant.
Joan, I hope DGS16 likes his new school. We had to walk through some shady areas. Serms like there were a lot of people high on something.

Well we are finally home folks! Had a great time. Went to the Rodeo and saw Brad Paisley concert on Sat. Friday night we went to a concert for DGD5's school. It was their band and dancers from the school. It was held in a brand new concert hall south of them- a huge place! I was VERY impressed ! The band is drums and bagpipes and they have won all kinds of awards nationally. Both the band and the dancers(tap and toe) were very professional! They have two dancers in their school that are seniors- one has placed 2nd in the nation and the other 7th. It was called "The Sounds of Scotland"-a 2 hr program! They advertise all over Houston and sell tickets and had about 3500 people there! They were so good. I probably enjoyed it better than the Rodeo.
However, I won an I-Pad at the Rodeo! Signed up to win at one of the booths when you first come in. I was soooo surprised when the guy called to tell me- at first I didn't believe him. I'm using it now. It is a small one - smaller than my Surface and no keypad like the Surface but will be handy to stick in my purse. Also great for FaceTime with the kids.
While I was there I had an abscessed tooth and had to find a dentist there. So have an appt. here tomorrow with an endodonist- ugh.
I have tried to scan read the posts as I hardly looked at a computer on my trip.
Joan- my heart goes out to you and all your family about your DGS. Thank God that he is safe and getting treatment. What an ordeal for you all. I had a 16 yr old nephew who jumped from a bridge at the Atlanta Omni and did kill himself - he would be in his 30's now. It is such a vulnerable age for them. Right now all of you need and deserve a little "peace" in your lives. I'll keep you on my prayer list.
Holly- great that all your tests are negative! Treating essential hypertension can be tough sometimes but good that you don't have any other causes.
Sue - congratulations on your honors in your graduation! We all knew you were the "best". Hope the cataract surgery went well. He must be glad it is over.
Will try to post more regularly now I'm home

Welcome home, JoAnne, how exciting to win an iPad mini---you know you can get a case for it that has keyboard. I never use the touch keyboard on the screen---I am a fast typist so type all my posts, recipes in my Pages app, etc. I can't stand touch typing on a screen. When I text on my phone I use the microphone and just dictate it. The school concert sounds amazing! Love things like that. Always wanted to go to Scotland when they have that week long celebration and the drums and bagpipes perform---one of my teacher friends went to Edinborough that week and said it was just amazing.
Sue, how fun for you to get to wear regular clothes daily again!! What day do you leave? Will you buy wifii or will we not hear from you for three weeks?
I went to bed at 9:30 again last night--8.5 hours of sleep---day before was 9 hours---maybe I'll finally catch up.
I made my mom's favorite old cookie recipe last night---ranger cookies---they have Rice Krispies and coconut and oatmeal in them--so of course I had some sugar last night---will freeze them today for this weekend when DS and his SO are here and we have everyone to dinner Saturday.
DGS16 starts at the new high school today---hope, hope he is okay and can do this.
Made Chicken barley soup yesterday and had that for dinner last night--made DH a big steak.
It is beautiful and still out but we are predicted to have 50 mph wind today---hard to believe at this moment and there is not a bit of breeze for a change. I should be out walking! Might go to the park on the way to yoga and walk first.
All I did last night was read this Gaskel novel Ruth---Gaskel lived in mid 1800's and wrote such awareness of life as it was for women--this one about illegitimacy shows how the women in society participated in the men's hatefulness toward women who became pregnant out of wedlock---the shunning and the forever scar on the child--makes me think again about Hamilton and his story--
Holly, hope you can get your exercise routine back---I hate it when I go away and don't have my classes or get sick and cannot keep up the routine---I worry about our universities after you said how much enrollment is down---with foreign students unable to come and with the cut in Pell Grants that is pending, this could be disastrous for higher ed---it will make it more expensive than ever and already it is prohibitive. Not good.

Hi all,
Yes, the BP issue is scary, particularly since I'm having to deal with it at a young age. Turns out that there's evidence of it in my family history that's is not just linked to smoking, as I previously thought.
Welcome back, JoJo. Congrats on winning the iPad!
Sue, hope you were able to find some clothes you like. I dislike shopping also.
Joan, wow, that is windy! Online education is really changing enrollment as well.

Hi!
I have a cold...yesterday I started to get a sore throat and today it's more sore and I'm congested. Ugh, I hate being sick. Started with the Airborne yesterday.
Holly, it is so easy to have work interfere with exercise. I think we will have to get him something like a lifeline button soon. I think in Baltimore the best area is by the Inner Harbor, but I haven't been there in ages.
Jojo, sounds like you had a great time. Congrats on winning the ipad
Joan, I hope the new school works for DGS16. Why did he not like the old school?
I went to about 5-6 boutiques in my neighborhood all within 2 block radius of my house. Bought a bunch of stuff, also returned 6 of 9 items I bought from Neimans. So much better to be able to try things on in stores, I just hate shopping though. I was out for about 4 hours yesterday shopping.
We have 2 sets of friends coming today. One couple who have been here borrowing SO's paintings are coming back for another round, returning some and looking at new work. Another couple that we haven't seen since last year, is coming for a pre dinner drink and look at SO's work before we go out to restaurant. I didn't want to cancel, hope my throat doesn't bother me too much.

Sue - Hope the cold soon resolves - It sounds like your SO is finally really moving some of his art work. He must feel good about that! and you too, since most is in your condo!
Joan - those cookies sound so good - all the things that I like!
Holly - There do seem to be so many online college programs now - and so many people that take advantage of them - especially since it gives you flexibility in working and going to school. I do see how the online courses can be good. I probably learned more from my books than any of my professors in college or nursing school. I never did get much out of listening to lectures and had to do much self study - ofcourse everyone learns differently. Nursing school was different though, in that you had to have the practicum - but the online nursing courses that I have heard of separate the practicum at the end.
Did my exercises this morning and then after lunch had the root canal done. Glad that is over. Have to go to my regular dentist in 2 weeks to have her replace the temporary filling that he put in the tooth. It was a molar with a gold crown. He drilled through the crown to do the root canal.
So much to do around the house here. Always is when we return from a trip!

Congrats on getting right into your exercise, JoAnne! I went to yoga about an hour early and walked in the park by the community center before yoga. It was not windy at all until the last five minutes and then the breeze started---now it is really wild out there---a huge gust just went through that had to be about 45 mph. I broke the first three large purple iris so I went out and rescued and have them inside in water. It's pretty brutal.
Sue, I'm sos sorry to hear you feel as tho' you are coming down with a cold! Take care of yourself---hope it doesn't turn into that stuff we had! If you start a wheezy cough---cough when you exhale--get to a doctor sooner than later.
Holly, the dr. Thinks my BP is genetic hypertension---it's not as high as when I was heavy but still too high to go off meds completely so losing weight and exercise didn't fix it all the way. Way better than it was, though.
So I just finished cleaning out my pantry---dare I admit to finding a couple things dated in 2014 and 2015? Ugh---way up high in the back. So now it's clean and organized---I just recycled the darn paper bags-=--hate grocery bags and I hardly ever get them now cause I use my own but if I ask DH to go to the store he will not used a reusable bag! So they were accumulating.
DH did a Target run so I don't have to do that today---we were running out of paper products around here.
JoAnne, now that you're back I'll send you my bread recipe and also these ranger cookies---they are delicious. I'll Text MessGE ON FB. WOW I think Vegas will lose some trees or big branches today!
Sounds as tho' your shopping was successful, Sue, even if you don't enjoy it. It's when you don't find anything that it gets to me.
Just don't know what to make for Saturday night --there will be eight of us---toying with doing ribs since the boys both like them--just not sure.

Joan - that would be wonderful if you can send the recipes - can't wait to make them.
I have to get out an do some yard work. It is a mess - they must have had a storm while we were gone. We have so many tress that there are always branches, pine cones and such everywhere after a storm.
We will have DGS4 tomorrow for the day. Excited to see him after so long. (Guess the yard will have to wait til Sat. unless I can get him to help to do a little in it)
Had Salmon and Stir Fry veggies tonight. All good.
My new book came while we were gone. I'm presently reading it - "The Brain Warrior's Way" - about how to take care of your brain with clean eating. I also have the cookbook that goes with it.
Holly - just got a new Knitpicks catalog and there are so many new threads that are so pretty. A lot of cotton for the summer. Wish that I could buy some but I have so much to do (crocheting) now that I need to finish some before ordering more. All the books are on sale for 40% off!

Hi!
Today is coughing and congestion. I was supposed to go out to dinner with my hs friends but one of them is also feeling sick so we are postponing it Sun or Wed.
Jojo, actually, SO has only sold one piece - out of probably 300 that he has done. Yes, so much work to be done getting ready for going away on vacation and also after coming back. I need to start making lists.
Joan, haha, I know I have things in my pantry even before 2014, that is one of the things on my list to do when I finally have the time. I've been slowly getting rid of some but still need a deep going through. What do people in your area think about the Raiders coming? What about a roast of some sort for Sat, stuffed pork tenderloin?
Holly, what's up for you this weekend? Hope work wasn't too stressful this week.
No gym today, or yesterday. Last night with friends was nice, they are our oldest couple friends. He was one of SO's first clients when SO first came to work in our office, 31 years ago.
The restaurant we went to has been around for at least 15 yrs and SO never really liked it. But they recently got a new chef and the local critic gave it a great review. Well, most of the food was good, except SO's Caesar salad was loaded with oil and tasteless, and his pasta dish cacio e pepe was way too salty and didn't have a pepper taste. I think they were understaffed last night, service was extremely slow - although they were very nice - and we saw one of the servers working at a cooking station - so I guess they were short of cooks. I had too much pasta last night...weight at 120 this morning.

Sue, I think there are many who are psyched about Raiders coming here---I wonder about a town of 2m supporting a team---especially when so many here are support staff people in the casinos and could not afford to do so. I wonder if they think that the tourism will be supporting the games and cash in at the casinos as part of it. I know Vegas movers and shakers have wanted this for a long time. I am just relieved and very thankful that the stadium will NOT be up near our new mall which would only be about a mile or so from us and would be absolutely devasting on traffic---so I'm okay---Cruise BF's DH is a Raiders fan for years so am sure he will be thrilled but also a bit remorseful that he will not be living in Vegas much longer---I think he and she plan to be in Florida by this time next year. However, they travel so much wouldn't be surprised if he were coming back here and staying at our house for games!
DGS16 just left---I invited him over after school for cookies---I timed them so they were baking when he came but one sheet was done-=--OMG, he ate two sheets of cookies---about 24 on a sheet--they are those lacy pralines---I don't make them very big so it's like eating sweet chips---he loves them. So I have about 24 left--will need to store them in freezer soon as they are very yummy.
Did my dance and weights class today---it is quite cool---only about 54--and cloudy and breezy---wow, the damage done yesterday was pretty big---the pictures from the wind storm were something else.
Did you see the video that James Corden did of Beauty and the Beast in the streets? If you haven't check it out--should be on uTube---I posted a copy on my FB site--it is hilarious. I just love him!
We are going out to dinner early tonight with cruise BF's since DS will be here either late tonight or early tomorrow. So I don't have to cook---yay!
Decided to make pork tenderloins for dinner tomorrow, Sue---with slow roasted veggies on my silpat and holy pan---the kids love those---will make two pans full of 3 kinds of potatoes, red pepper, onions, shallots, b. Squash and green beans or asparagus--whichever I can get the best fresh of tomorrow. Bought all the other veggies today. Need to make a salad also.

Hi all,
Glad it's Friday. Going to get dinner with my brother tonight. I might check out the Farmer's Market tomorrow. My brother's heading back to Ocracoke to work at a restaurant in a couple of weeks.
JoJo, I ordered a bunch of yarn about a month ago for dishcloths, etc. They do sales all the time. I saw in the news that i85 in Atlanta collapsed due to a fire. So bizarre.
Sue, when do you leave? I bet you are excited. Wow, 300 paintings.
Joan, I'm glad he liked them. Sounds like a yummy meal for tomorrow.

ummmm - you two are making me hungry talking about pork tenderloin! I had a sandwich. DH wanted to go to a movie and I didn't feel like it; so stayed here. I have been having headache this afternoon and tonight - strange since I am taking Ibuprofen 800mgm every 6 hrs since the root canal. They told me to take it for2-3 days for the inflammation even if I didn't have pain. I think it is sinus problems as my sinuses are draining too. The pollen counts here are off the charts - my front porch is covered.
I think that tomorrow I will switch to alternating Tylenol and Ibuprofen. Feeling a little nauseated too and I know that is the Ibuprofen high dose.
Today had DGS4 - lots of fun as usual. Someone posted a thing on FB that said that Keeping your grandchildren is not babysitting but a playdate! How true.
Sue - just seems like a lot of people have had an interest in his work and I thought more had bought them. Is he still painting. Your cold sounds like will last a while longer. Wed. will probably be better than Sun. for your dinner date. BTW your trip will be fabulous. I know you are excited about going. Let us know all about it!
Think I'll take a hot shower and go to be and watch a little TV. Don't feel like doing anything else.
