Just to put it out there, we give our mail carrier cash at Christmas. I know from driving a bus, where I got lots of kind and thoughtful but perhaps not so useful gifts that cash always works...it does not expire and you do not have to register it for a pin online (which some of the bank cash cards require). I used to get overloaded in Dunkin’ Donuts cards....which is ok as I do enjoy a coffee from them from time to time. Totally agree with CJ- an amazon card, or one from Walmart or Target pretty much covers a lot of things for the average person. I have heard that there are online exchanges that permit you to swap gift cards for one that you will use. I have no experience with that,however.
CJ- I just checked the distance of my LQS from my house and its a solid 30 miles....so I understand that it stinks to have to drive a distance like that for a class. I hope that the football stadium is not a problem for you- perhaps the game will end late or early and you will be able to sneak by without having to incur a lot of other cars. Driving in the dark on roads that you do not normally take (or very busy roads) is a problem...and I just hope it all works out for you. From what you are saying, this class will be a lot of fun for you and you will learn a lot. Hey, did you get your mail in?
Ruth, that is awesome that your DGD loves scarves....and now you can keep yourself busy making scarves in her favorite colors, or colors to coordinate with her outerwear. Hope you enjoyed your meal at Pizza Ranch. Just having a meal that you did not have to prepare or clean up after is a treat. I appreciate the heads up on Herrschenerrs. I get their emails, and see that they have free shipping a lot. For me to buy something new it’s really gonna have to call my name, I already have too many projects to do and not enough time for them!
Busy day- got my hair done and then to the doctor this afternoon for a 6 month check up. I am in for a few busy days of visits with Dh’s high school friends (his reunion is this weekend). think I am going to be tired of making small talk for 3 nights in a row. Oh well.
My crafting for today was receiving my fabric from my friend who went up to the LQS- she was running out of certain fabrics also.

Ginny, I'm sure you got the email also but today is one of those days that Herrschnerrs has a flat rate shipping and they also give you $5 if you buy over $35 worth.
Went to Pizza Ranch yesterday as I mentioned but yes, when I go into buffet places I feel full just walking in the door. Had a nice lunch though. Chicken thigh, stuffing (looked like Stove Top) with a touch of gravy,really nice green beans and had to taste a potato wedge and I felt stuffed.Later at home we moved a bunch of bricks...two kinds, and some concrete blocks and made a wall so got in lots of exercise.

Sounds like a nice meal at Pizza Ranch! Not sure where that chain is, but I do not believe there are any in my area. Glad you got some activity in too. And I am sure you are enjoying the time with Ds.
We are going out tonight with some friends from Dh’s HS. Most of his friends are nice enough....just will not have a lot of time to myself.

hi girls, had good intentions today and have got nothing DONE.
after lunch we went to hobby LOBBY /H.L HAS 40% OF OF FALL STUFF.. MICHAEL'S HAS 60 % AND 70% OFF OF FALL STUFF. STUFF.
Those square scrap book totes are 70 %off. I got 3 for 9.50. they work good for keeping quilting fabric and cuts pieces in them.when you want to go to guild or sew days. (michael's.)

Hello Crafters - Hope you are all doing well today  Thanks all for the thoughts and info on the gift cards. I'm going to make an effort to try to use the food ones, or else I'll give them to family members to use (hopefully not the same ones who gave them to me  ) I try to give cash now for all my family gifts, it's just easier and I know they will use it. It's another nice day here with temps in the 70s and low humidity. It's supposed to get back up in the 80s this weekend though. I haven't been doing much the last two days, but I have things to do tomorrow since I'm planning to go to a quilt show this weekend. It will be the last of the season for me, so I'm looking forward to it. Take care everyone! |

Hi all. Just got home from being out with ds and dh. Had a good time. We were going to drive out to our land to see the fire damage but they were too tired so we came home instead. Ds leaves tomorrow. I hate to have my visitors leave esp him but he does intend to come back next year with his second oldest daughter so that will be great to look forward to.
I started a scarf for my dgd that my son told me loves scarves

Hey, Ruth, what color is the scarf that you just started? Bet it feels extra special making it, knowing that she really wants a scarf and that it will be anxiously waited for.
Sorry that Ds is returning home tomorrow. It must have been a good visit.
I have a sudden onset full blown cold. Really do not feel very well, even with cold meds. Think its best I stay home so I do not share this with others. I sneeze a lot, which makes it tough to contain germs.

Hello Crafters Ginny - I hope you can get your keyboard to work. I'm sorry to hear about your cold, I hope you can knock it out quickly. Take care of yourself Ruth - I'm glad you've had a nice visit with your son and sorry he has to leave so soon. It's great that he'll be back next year. It's a bit warmer here today, but still sunny. I'm hoping the weekend isn't too bad with temps in the 80s, at least we don't have any rain in the forecast. It's been so noisy outside my house the last few days. Lots of helicopters and airplanes, cars, lots of trucks and motorcycles on the road, sounds like some kind of construction behind my house with boards banging, a beeping noise like a truck backing up (but it goes on and on), and last night I heard a metal clang outside in the evening. This morning when I went outside I saw a metal pipe at the end of my driveway - might be a tailpipe - so I guess that was the noise I heard. Most of the time I can block it all out, but lately it's been driving me crazy I have an appointment next week with a fence company so I'll be interested to see how much it is going to cost to get the two fences replaced and I also need other parts of the wood fence repaired. Hopefully it will be a good price covered by the insurance. Take care everyone! |

I meant to say that I think that this year at Christmas I'll give the mail carrier cash. We've been giving him a pure silver coin each year and he did like those and said they are truly art but he's not really a coin collector to I think cash is it.
While son was here (still here till 3) I'm pretty sure that we have dh convinced that we need to move pretty close to where ds lives. So we looked at a lot of houses online and ds is going to keep a lookout for us. If he finds a good one we'll buy it now but not actually move there for a couple years..One of the grandchildren (who are rapidly becoming adults) can live there temporarily until we move...it will take that long to weed out our "stuff". So with all this fabric I have I want to make small quilts.I could also make other small things such as totebags. It's not fabric recommened by quilting experts,except for a very small amount that I did buy years ago at a quilt shop,but it will work for my great grandchildren and for donating.Or people could use them as lap blankets. So, although I have been wracking my brain to determine what size I should make the blocks I realized that as long as I make them all the same size it should be fine. I'm not going to get fancy at least not at first but I may adventure out in time and try more complicated designs.I did go to that one series of quilt top classes and there's always youtube so I'm going to try. And I have to get making those fleece blankets I talked about way back that I was going to do. Anyway that's my new plan to use up some things before we move. Of course I'll have yarn left to take but it's light where fabric is heavy.

I didn't have oculoplastic surgery yesterday. One of the chalazion started draining on its own. The doctor injected the other two with a steroid. They are on my eyelid. (Blocked tear ducts) I have to go back in six weeks. Surgery could still be an option if they don't go away. I think they will!
We've had several inches of rain, but it's supposed to stop in a while. Next weekend the low is going to be close to freezing, and it's supposed to snow. There's snow this weekend at 8,000 feet elevation. I wonder if winter is arriving early and is we're skipping fall.
Ruth, is there a child protective services there? One of our quilting group has been cranking out child sized quilts for an advocacy group here.

Hello Crafters - Hope you are all doing well today Ruth - I hope you've enjoyed your visit with your DS and that he has a safe trip home. Will the new house you'd be looking at be in another state? Your plan does sound good, I hope it works out for you. Sue - I'm glad you didn't have to have surgery. Hope your eye continues to improve. Hope you don't get any snow yet and still get your fall. Ginny - Hope you aren't getting the hot weather we're getting the next few days. It was around 90 today, but low humidity - a beautiful end of summer day. Higher humidity is expected with hot weather the next few days. Phyl - Hope you are getting some crafting in. I went to the quilt show today, it was a great show. So many beautiful quilts, I truly admire the fabric choices and beautiful work done by these quilters. Most of the quilts were more traditional styling, which I prefer over the newer modern quilts. I bought a few pieces of fabric at their guild table and also some grab bags - they were 6 for $5 and they placed items in brown lunch bags. I haven't opened mine yet, but my SIL bought them too and got several fat quarters, some patterns, and a few other things. I wish this show wasn't so far away or I'd go back tomorrow, but I don't feel like driving up there again. Hopefully I'll get to go to it again in 2 years from now. |

Ginny, the scarf I started was with Lion Brand mandala in the color "genie". However I just ripped the whole thing out because I somehow missed stitches way back so that it was getting narrower. So since I was ripping so much anyway I decided to do the whole thing because I didn't like how wide it was.Plus the color made it look like a baby blanket. Dh even said that just a few minutes ago and I was already thinking that myself.I'll go to plan B. I sure hope you're feeling better today and if there are any social activities planned that you don't have to go to them if you're not feeling up to it.
CJ sorry about all the noise around your home. Hearing loud noises like that tail pipe noise you mentioned can be frightening not to mention all the other noise grating on your nerves. CJ, we're moving to Indiana...southern Indiana on the Kentucky border
Sue, I'm glad to hear you didn't have to have the surgery and I hope that the others also can be taken care of without surgery.
DS got off safely. We watched the plane take off and he also send us an email saying he made it to Denver and was having the lunch I packed for him. Now I think he goes directly to Lousiville but doesn't arrive there until 10:30. His wife and children will be thrilled to have him back and his oldest son just got back from Taiwan a couple days ago so he'll get to see him too
Phyl, I hope you're enjoying your day and maybe getting in some crafting.
