Babysitting today at DD’s, so I really doubt I will get any crafting in today. Super hot here today, cannot believe it will be almost 90 on the first day of spring.

I kind of wish it was the first day of spring but yes 90 degrees is awfully hot for this time of year. I't's really pleasant here. About 70.
I did do the first row of a crochet scarf this morning...oneof the v scarves. I actually ended up with the correct number of stitches in the chain. It's hard when you have to do 282 chains. Well then dh got up and he's obsessing about this move. He really doesn't want to move but realizes it's best for us at our age to be near someone that can actually help us when we need it. We have no intention of imposing on them when it's not necessary but for emergencies or just family celebrations it will be great.Their children are very helpful too and I'm sure would be willing to do things for us and it will just plain be nice to be able to see them more often.I did kind of fall for the first house we saw but now we've seen a lot more options so it will be fun to look at them all (online) and compare and finally pick some final choices and then make a decision. Dh of course is seeing all the downsides and thinking about all the things that can go wrong.I'm more of an optimist but I'm also easily stressed and indecisive but also impulsive and was ready to just go ahead and buy that first one.
I hope that all of you have a great day and will have a great week
Ginny, how are you feeling today?
Ginny, just saw that you posted while I was typing. Congrats on the new keyboard. I hope it makes your life easier...at least your typing

Hey Ruth, No one likes to move, the process is cumbersome and a LOT of work. What is it that Dh dislikes about the possible move? (Now mind you, I do not want to move either, but know that at some point it will probably be necessary). All I am wondering is if perhaps you can find a home in an area that will agree with Dh and what he is looking for in a home. As you are sort of off the beaten path where you are now, I figure that will be hard to duplicate in a more populated state. Its a blessing that your Ds and his family are happy to have you move closer to them. Think of it as a cost savings for all the packages you mail out to them with your personalized gifts!! I am slowly getting better. Now Dh has it. I am leaving for Bible study in 15 minutes, have given him the cold meds and know what his night will be like. I hope he sleeps well. The first night of this cold was not good for me at all, although once I fell asleep I did ok. Thanks for asking. Yes I am loving my new keyboard. I bought the same model, but the keys are a bit livelier, so its a wee bit easier to use. Good for that!! No crafting today, but I did get a great idea for a cute craft for my grandkids when I have them next month for an overnight. So that counts, doesn’t it? Gonna pack up for study. Have a good night all GInny

Hello Crafters - Hope you are all doing well today Ruth - I hope you and your DH can come to an agreement with the move. I'm having a hard enough time with myself, I'd hate to have to deal with someone else too. Ginny - I'm glad you got a new keyboard. It was hot here and humid. Looks like the rest of the week will be in the 80s but less humid. Sure isn't fall weather. I made a loaf of no-knead white bread today. I baked it in a loaf pan, which I don't usually do and it turned out well. I may have to freeze half of it since it's only good fresh for a few days, especially in my hot kitchen. I have an appointment for a fence company to come tomorrow for a free estimate of how much it will cost me to replace/fix my 2 fences. I hope they give me a good estimate, because I'd rather not have to get more. Take care everyone!

Thank you CJ and good luck with the fence company. I hope they can get it all repaired for a good price so that you have some of the money you received left over so that you can treat yourself somehow. I saw one bread recipe that I want to try...maybe you gave it to us. I have to look it up in my recipe file. We have bad luck with bread. It goes moldy so fast and it never used to do that so I'd like to be able to bake some in smaller loaves or in buns for dh to eat without having to buy at the stores because when we buy, we buy enough to last so we don't have to keep going back but then we do anyway because it molds.
Been working on the scarf between dh coming up and telling me about yet more houses that he found. I love looking at the pictures of the insides of homes being sold

HI CRAFTERS, RUHT CAN I ASK DO YOU HAVE MADE OUT WITH ONE OF THE KIDS BEING POWER OF ATTORNEY.

WHEN THE KIDS GOT OLDER WE HAD A NEW WILL MADE OUT AND JEANA BECAME POWER OF ATTORNEY. OUR LAWYER ALWAYS SAID IT IS BETTER TO HAVE SOME ONE CLOSE.
NOW AUNT JO AND UNCLE GALE NEVER HAD KIDS.THEY LIVED ABOUT 30 MILES FROM JIM AND THERESA.
WHEN DON'S MOM WAS DYING SHE HAD THERESA PROMISED HER THEY WOULD LOOK AFTER JO.THEY DID.
AUNT JO HAD NEIGHBORS THAT CHECKED ON HER EVERYDAY. AS AUNT JO GOT OLDER AND SOME MEDICAL ISSUES. DICK TOLD JIM AND THERESA IT WAS TIME FOR FAMILY TO TAKE OVER.
AS THE MEDICAL ISSUES GOT WORSE THEY MOVED AUNT JO TO THE NURSING HOME IN THEIR TOWN.
AUNT JO WAS HAVING BAD PROBLEMS WITH LEG ULCERS. SHE LIVE FOR 5 YEARS. NOW IF SHE HAD BEEN ALONE (even with dick going over once or a day) WHO KNOW WHAT MAY HAVE HAPPENED.
MY FOLKS WERE LEFT IN LINCOLN ALONE WHEN ALL OF US KIDS MOVE STATE.THEY MOVED TO AZ. 4 MONTHS LATER DAD HAD A STROKE IN THE BRAIN STEM.
MOM CAME OUT OF THE BATHROOM AND DAD COULD NOT TALK AND WAS POINTING TO THE PHONE. MOM THOUGHT AT FIRST HE WANTED THE PATIO DOOR OPENED.SHE CALLED MY DBIL WHO CALLED 911. DAD WAS PUT ON LIFE SUPPORT. HUNG ON TILL WE GOT THERE AND THEN LET GO.
DAD KEPT ASKING DID YOU CALL PHYLLIS. SHE HAS A LONG WAY TO COME.
IN THE HOSPITAL HE WS SLEEPING .I TAPPED HIS SHOULDER AND HE CAME TO LIFE. WAS SO GLAD TO SEE ME. YEP I WAS DADDY'S GIRL.
IN AUGUST WE HAD GONE HOME.DAD KEPT SAYING WE ARE MOVING TO PHOENIX. DON'T WANT TO BE WHERE IT IS COLDER.I BEGGED HIM TO COME HERE.
WHEN WE FIRST PULLED INTO THE DRIVE WAY DAD WAS PUTTING A FOR SALE SIGN IN THE YARD AS WE GOT OUT OF THE CAR. I RAN UP TO HUG DAD IT HIT ME NEXT TIME I AM IN PHOENIX IT WILL BE A FURNAL. I JUST DIDN'T KNOW WHICH PARENT. .
MAYBE IF YOU READ THIS TO DH IT WILL HELP. DOESN'T MEAN IT WOULD HAPPEN WE JUST NEVER KNOW.PHYL

FORGOT TO MENTION WE ALL BELIEVED DD KNEW HE DID NOT HAVE LONG.
HAVE NOT DONE MUCH TODAY . WENT TO PT EXERCISES GOT TWO MORE TO DO.
RIGHT NOW I CANNOT FIGURE WHAT TO TAKE TO SEW DAY. SO MAY NOT GO.
I THINK NITA MAY BE GETTING THE WRONG EXERCISES OR WRONG PT PERSON. SECOND WEEK.SHE IS NOT GOING. SAID IT HURTS LIKE HELL TO LOAD UP AND CARRY ALL THAT STUFF .EVEN IF IS JUST HER ROPE STUFF.SHE MAKES BOWLS.
STOP SITTING AT THE MACHINE. STAY HOME AND REST..WALK AROUND THE HOUSE.

Phyl, we've actually been pretty stupid in that we've never made a durable power of attorney for healthcare, haven't given either of the kids POA for anything and don't really have a will. After my daughter in law's mother died both my son and daughter in law asked us to make a will and fill out papers but we still haven't done it. I once saw a doctor here refuse to follow a wife's wishes for her husband who was on dialysis but it was useless, he was in a coma and she just wanted him to go peacefully. As I said, the doctor refused to stop dialysis. So even spouses have to have DPOA for healthcare so that they can make decisions for each other. Dh and I did have that but the clinic we went to lost the papers so we need to get more. Yes, as I said this is a very stupid thing and I really thank you for mentioning this because we need to go very soon and have this done. I'll write something out and make dh go with me to have the paper notorized for the DPOA for health care than we'll take care of the rest after that since that's most important. We did sign papers at doctor's office that our kids can get info about us if we get really sick and can't tell them ourselves
Yes Nita should have gone sooner. I can't say much because back in Jan when I hurt my back I didn't go either but thankfully it eventually healed on it's own.

Phyl, you are very wise and gave great advice to Ruth and her Dh. After a long saga with my mom- when she stubbornly refused to graciously grant me POA, I did finally get that, and had her revise her will. I know in my mom’s case she had mild dementia and was fighting for her independence. What she did not know was that I was already taking over her financial affairs- paying her bills etc....and just signing her checks with my own signature. (No one ever questioned it). Of course, eventually it became all legal. If you are going to move, perhaps its a good idea to wait till you move so that your forms are consistent with that states requirements. I do know that getting DPOA was an easy process, filling out a form and getting it notarized. There is also a web site (used to be called Legalzoom) that allows a simple will to be drawn- by you- and apparently its legal. In absence of another will, I suppose its a good idea. Our wills need to be updated, but are not horrifically outdated. The updates would be more to protect the estate and make it easier for our children to inherit what they will get anyway.
Yes, Phyl- Nita should go back and be reevaluated. Sounds like something wrong is taking place.
CJ- good luck with the fence company. Hope they can repair things as you would like and for a reasonable price.
I have an awesome and practically fail safe recipe for white bread, will post it later. It makes a wonderful loaf of bread.
Been on the phone a lot. All 3 grandkids are sick. Dd is taking the two younger ones to the doctor now, the oldest went last night. Looks like strep and pink eye for all 3. Now lets see if grandpa and gramma get any of this. Dh has the cold I had. He is napping now.
Getting my small projects together- my quilting buddy borrowed my 12 1/2 inch quilting square to square off her blocks. So I will take a break and start on either the table runner (fall) or Dd#2’s Christmas tree skirt. Both are easy projects and should keep me out of trouble for awhile. Ha ha ha ha
Hi to Sue....
Off for my walk. What a kooky day Ginny

Hello Crafters - Hope you are all doing well today Ginny - Sorry to hear the grandkids are sick but I hope that you and your DH do not get sick. Phyl - I've read of many similar stories to the ones you shared of people aging and having health issues. Ruth - I hope that you will be able to get your will done and a medical directive too. My father had those for several years before he passed away and at the end of his life (and after) having those documents helped the family so much. It was such an easy process because of them. A few months after my father passed away I went to a lawyer and had my will and medical directives updated. It cost me $500 and I think it was money well spent because I didn't want to leave a mess for my family if something happened to me. As it is I have several property items that are only in my name and I guess if I died now they would have to do probate for me (we didn't have to do that for my father). Also if something happened to me medically I wanted my brothers to be able to carry out my wishes. I might need to update my legal documents again, but I'd like to wait until after I would sell the house I'm living in. The fence company guy came and gave me a great quote on just replacing my whole split rail fence that goes around the outside of my front yard (instead of just fixing the bad parts), so I agreed to a new fence. They will also replace about a 40 foot section of chain link fence and put in a gate like it had before. He said the chain link fence was probably 50 years old because they didn't make it as heavy now as they did back then. They will also clear up and take away all the old fencing. The cost was less than what the insurance company gave me so I was very happy. I may use the extra money to get some junk pick ups done since I have several heavy items that are hard for me to get rid of. I'm hoping to meet a goal of getting rid of more things that are in the house by the end of this year and then hopefully I'd just be left with what I want to take with me when/if I go. It's a beautiful day here, around 80, low humidity and breeze. I have the windows open and I'm enjoying it. No crafting for me today, but it's nice to get some of these business/house things done. Take care everyone!

CJ- I am so very happy for you that the fence estimate was reasonable and will actually give you some money left over! I am sure that a new fence will add to the curb appeal of your home, so that if and when you are ready to put it on the market it will look its best. Nice to have the windows open!!! Enjoy! And yes, house business is sure time consuming....taking care of a home is not for wimps. It takes a lot of effort to stay on top.
Got a lot dumb stuff done today, one of which was making sure that the building permit for our new roof (to be installed in a few weeks) was in order.
Got the fabric out for the table runner today, and the directions. Looks like a fun and easy project. My friend from church has my special cutting mat, so that will keep me from working on the quilt for another day or so. Ginny

Depending on what state you are in and what your assets are, a will may not be enough. California, Nevada and Montana need a trust to keep things out of Probate Court if assets are over a certain amount which varies from state to state. That's why my sister's estate is such a mess. She didn't have a trust, and her will was 25 years old. Then she signed a domestic partnership shortly before she died. I'm still working on things with the help of a good Probate attorney and a CPA. Taxes hadn't been filed for two years, so the CPA was invaluable and had access to 1099s through the IRS. The dp gets 50% in spite of being a stubborn obstinate uncooperative nasty and threatening jerk.
I have been to Office Depot, the supermarket, and an appointment this morning. The weather forecast said 0% chance of rain today, but my joints are telling me otherwise. It's very cloudy.
The rain from last week has caused our landline to act up again. We're going to have five nights of temperatures in the 20s so the leaves should start turning. There's a touch of gold here and there but nothing consistent.
