We are a group of like-minded people that gather to discuss a host of topics from weight loss, to current events. Our thread celebrates liberal diversity, welcomes new friends, and respects all opinions. We count everything from calories to points but, we never count our chickens before they've hatched!

Dan Rather...... Every once in a while in Washington, the fuse is lit for what seems to be a big scandal. Much more rarely does that fuse lead to an explosion of the magnitude we are seeing with Russia and the new Administration, and frankly the Republicans in Congress. How can anybody say, with all this billowing smoke and sights of actual flames, that here is no need to at least independently investigate whether a fire is burning down the very .pillars of our democracy? The pressure is obviously starting to mount as leading Republicans are now calling for Attorney General Jeff Sessions to refuse himself from the Russia investigation. This comes in the wake of serious and credible evidence reported by a vigilant press that the Attorney General, mind you the top law enforcement man in the United States, perjured himself in testimony to the Senate about meeting the Russian ambassador during the election. Sessions is but the latest person close to President Trump who seems to be ensnared in a story that is more worthy of Hollywood melodrama than the reality of the governance of our country. Democrats are calling for Sessions to resign, and this story could move very quickly. We are well past the time for any political niceties or benefits of the doubt. We need an independent and thorough investigation of Russia's meddling in our democracy and its ties to the President and his allies. We don't know what we don't know. Perhaps there are perfectly innocuous reasons for why Mr Trump won't release his tax returns, why he has continued to speak admirably about President Putin and why his aides and advisors seem to be so close to Russia. That's why we need an investigation. If the air is to be cleared, it needs to be cleared. And if there is deep rot, it needs to be exposed. And quickly. The press is doing an admirable job. But there is only so much it can do without such things as subpoena powers. Let's just make this clear. This is about a foreign and hostile power trying to influence our election while being in contact with close aides to the presidential campaign that the Kremlin wanted to win. Furthermore, there are serious questions about Mr Trump's longstanding ties to Russian money and influence peddlers. We don't know where this might go, but it isn't going away.

If it looks like a duck, walks like a duck & quacks like a duck, my guess it really is a duck...I'm thinking this duck's poo is leading us right to some very serious Russian meddling, meetings with cabinet & staff appointees & the Oval Office itself & I hope the poo is about to hit the fan!
Happy to hear your Dad is doing better, Joyce. I'm sure each episode he has makes you just hold your breathe & try to prepare yourself for the end. Which of course, you can't. It's just hard & stressful no matter what. Remember to take care of you, too.

Haven't been able to stay as caught up with the news as I would like for the last few days, but it looks like Jeff Sessions not only has stepped in it big time, he's tracked it right in front of the fan. Sooner or later Tweety is going down in a bigger crash than Humpty Dumpty for the lying ways of him and his whole administration, and not even his good buddy Vladimir is going to be able to put him back together.
I came home from the hospital earlier this evening as my dad was resting, and I was just exhausted. He is improving, so that is good news. The kidney doctor says that even though his kidney function has deteriorated even further, he thinks that once the infection is cleared it will likely bounce back up a little. He's still Stage 4, and that's not going to change, but get him a little further away from dialysis than he currently is. And my mom has still not had a melt down during all this which I am so very thankful about. Her Alzhiemer's keeps marching steadily forward much more rapidly than I would have hoped, but I just have to accept that.
Off to lay down on the couch for awhile, because if my head hits the bed I'll be out for the count.

Things women should know by the time they're 30......Ivanka, Melania do I need to send this to you?
Know when the occasion calls for a business suit or a cocktail dress (because there's nothing worse than being over-or under-dressed at the party).
=^..^= meow.....but still

Anne, I thought exactly the same thing when I saw their pictures. They were dressed for a cocktail party. Had they never bothered to watch any President address Congress before and had no idea about proper attire?? Lovely, expensive outfits but totally inappropriate for the occasion. Which is really interesting because at the inauguration ceremony Melania's outfit was perfect.
