Hello Crafters - Hope you are all doing well today Who wants some of this 100 degree heat I had this afternoon It's all yours. I have the portable AC on and the fan, so it's tolerable. Just waiting for the weekend and the 70s temps. I'm glad to hear some crafting is going on, maybe I'll get back to it one day. I have been reading some good books though and I really enjoy them. I went and had my old car serviced today. They couldn't find any reason for the white smoke I saw, so maybe some fluid was just leaking at that time, who knows. It was strange driving my old car again. It still has the gear shift on the steering column and I kept reaching to the seat for the shift every time I needed it (that's where it is in the new car) I really need to sell this car, but I'll hang onto it for a bit longer, maybe just until I move from the house if I do. If I haven't made plans by next spring, then maybe I'll sell it then. I bought some groceries today too and while my car was being serviced met with my DB and DSIL and had a late breakfast at Bob Evans. It was nice to get out and to visit with them. This is the only DB/DSIL still living in the area. Take care everyone!

Ruth, CJ and I wish we could share some of this heat!
CJ. Well the good news is that in the next 2 days we get real relief from the heat. This heat is oppressive And not any fun

In two days I'll have some relief from this cold...it's supposed to get up to 60's then 70s
CJ, I have an awful time with having three vehicles. Each one has things like the shifter in different places...also headlights, windsheild washer, heater, etc. In the new one you have to keep your foot on the brake for it to start. I always think the battery has gone dead or something then finally remember to put my foot on there.

This morning was quilting! Three were doing embroidery, three were knitting, and three were doing quilting things - hand piecing, applique and quilting. The smaller group was very nice! I'm still working on the gray and purple scarf.
There was a lot of frost on the grass this morning. We might have more snow on Wednesday!

Wow , Sue, Frost on the grass? And more snow coming?? It seems to make no sense to me, as where I am right now its still hot. But there are cooler temps coming soon! It must have been such a nice group at quilting this morning. The local library has a crafting group that meets twice a week, You bring whatever you are working on. Sort of like your group. How much more work do you have on the scarf?
Phyl-Bet it feels good to have the sewing table cleared off! Always makes starting a new project more pleasurable if the work area is clear. Glad you got that done. What is the color scheme on the baby quilt? So many lovely color schemes out there for babies now that we have branched out from just pink/purple and yellow. I am sure the quilt will look great and you can get this done by November with a simple design like squares.
Finished the table runner- complete with some small sections of free motion on the border strip. Then I went on to experiment with the quilting template that I bought. I love it!!! It begins to approximate the look of a long arm but you use your home machine. The first effort I discarded, but the second test square is better. I will still need to work with it to see if I can use it for my quilt but I am guardedly optimistic.
Got my walk in this am before it got too hot. Think the temps start to cool down tomorrow a bit and much more over the weekend.
CJ- yes its tough having more than one vehicle- keeping up with the inspection and just keeping it running. Cars like to run and not be left to sit for long. Do you use the old car much? So glad you got to share a meal with your DB and DSIL. Its nice when family is close enough to do that.
Ruth, well - CJ and I are complaining about the heat, and you are too cold. Hope you get more comfortable temps soon.
Gonna go iron my fabrics to get ready to cut for Dd#2’s Christmas tree skirt.
Take care all Ginny

Hello all Phyl, my cutting table is my dining room table and right now it's in need of clearing off too.It sounds as if you keep good track of your blood sugar which is really great. I'm sure your neighbor will be thrilled that you are making her a baby quilt. It's such a nice thing to do for someone Ginny, I'm glad to hear that the quilting template works so well and congrats on getting the table runner done so fast. I know you're looking forward to cooler weather. Here we had frost this morning too. It got down to 28 during the night and was up to 37 when I got up. Now at 5:30 pm it's up to 70!! Tomorrow will be 74 then the temps jump up and down as day after tomorrow will be high of only 56 but then goes back to 71 again two days later. Crazy weather. I finished yet another hat this morning and started another. I really need to get back to the scarves but haven't had the right mind set to do those first three rows. Working on the house buying thing we're on probably around plan n, o, or p by now. plan b was awhile back

hi, the quilt will be pink with swirls and t hen white background with kitty's on it. got this at hobby lobby. from joann's I got white background fabric with little kitty faces look like they are sleeping.course the pink swirls will break up the two white backgrounds.
the white and pink kitty back ground you an find in the baby section at h.l.it is called marie.so far not sure I will like the combination. hope it all works out.I was thinking a first alight gray withe kitty and pink. could not find any I liked for a baby blanket.
ruth what t can you tell me about the mandala sparkle yarn.was thinking of making Hannah a scarf. not sure it would be warm enough for a wi winter. would I have to double it.

Phyl, yes mandala is a #3 yarn so you would need to use two strands. I have some but haven't used it yet so I don't know how it works up. You're probably knitting it right? I think it would be easy to use in knitting. What I don't know is how it would be if you had to pull it out because of a mistake. The plain mandala works great...as I said, I don't know about the sparkle. I do know that Red Heart unforgettable is almost impossible to pull out. I made one of the v scarves with it and had to pull it out because it was too short (even though I followed directions and in fact made it a little larger) I had to give up frogging it because it was just too hard. I'll get back to trying again sometime... The only mandala I've actually used besides the regular roll was ombre and it worked great.I so think though that any mandala you use for a winter scarf, you would have to use it doubled.

Phyl, I am sure that the baby quilt will be adorable. Tone on tone white fabrics are so pretty- should work perfectly with the sleeping kitty fabric.
Ruth, some of the colors of mandala are so pretty, and they became very daring with the color combinations. Many bright and pretty yarns.....so very nice!! Yes, you wonder why they make yarns that are so impossible to take mistakes out of. One of the reasons I will not work with homespun.
I have not bought yarn in a year, as I know I need to use up what I have in the house. And I have been enjoying playing with fabric too much!
Hope to finish cutting the fabric for the Christmas tree skirt. Ginny

CJ, I was talking about putting away fans yesterday. This year we never did put our a/c back in the window. I'm going to go now to check out the video. As you know I love to see quilt sites and see what beautiful quilts the person made. If only I could make a quilt but just watching...like the old days when I used to read so many books and articles about losing weight. Never lost weight that way...action of course is needed. Action is needed to make a quilt too or anything else. It's easier to read of course.
Phyl, the quilt is going to be great

CJ- you are so right, that is an interesting quilt on MSQ. Not my idea of a good quilt either, I would not make it. Thanks for posting it as they do usually have some great ideas! i Love MSQ. Hurray for cooler temps and that you can open the windows. The template is neat, because it creates the look of using a long armer with your home machine. Much easier than just using the home machine too. I will see if I can import a link on how to use the templates, there are several youtubes out there on it. Ginny
