Cathy, I stick to a modified diet that works for me. I skip the sugar, chocolate, wheat, alcohol, coffee on and on. I haven't been told to not eat salt yet. Actually, I gave up my love affair with food. So glad that we broke up! I kicked my old attitude about food out of my life and keep it a secret that I could care less about what I eat. I am no longer chained to having to overeat and I am incredibly grateful for this freedom. This was a hard won battle for me. I love spending my days OP and skip the stuff/starve method of living now.
Thanks for sharing your fairy happenings!
Affirmation: I have better things to do with my life than overeat. Spiritual: Balance Physical: 8,251 Steps Gratitude: See above.

Affirmation: I am able to do anything I set my mind to Fitness: I walked 30 minutes yesterday and will walk 30 today Health: Eating Whole Food Plant Based without thinking about points/calories is seeing a drop on the scale and less angst over food...also feel better physically Spiritual: The universe embraces and comforts me Gratitude: abundance of our garden...made 8 jars of guava jam/sauce yesterday so even if we don't have fresh fruit we have produce made from it.
Yesterday we went shopping for groceries and I found a LOT but did not find tofu and some of the other things I was looking for. Ah well...will look again in a few more places today. I have a list and wlll add to it before we head out foraging again today. Hubby says he wants to have stored dry food for a month or more...just in case. Will look through the cupboards to see what we have and what we might need to buy. Today I need to clean up the kitchen again. I need to come up with a menu for Wednesday and get the ingredients (since roads might be closed on Tuesday) and I need to make ahead on Tuesday anything that can be eaten by us if nobody shows up. I also need to begin to clean. It will be a busy day since I also have two books, a novella and three art books I should review before tomorrow.
MICHELLE: I love your break-up with food post! I have definitely broken up with baking though I might pick up baking homemade bread in the future if I need to. I don't live to eat though I do think about what I will eat when meal time rolls around. Having healthy options in the house helps.

Affirmation: It's OK to be tired. Spiritual: Calm Physical: 9,943 Steps Gratitude: Warm clothing
Cathy, DO you like tofu? It seems to me it is bean curd--whatever that means. I like oatmeal and rice for my main staples. The guava jam sounds delicious! Do you review those art books online? I wonder what an art book looks like on Kindle--mostly curious about the pictures.

Affirmation: I am doing "this" Fitness: walked 30 minutes yesterday - today there will be cleaning and tidying and such Health: eating whole food plant based (vegan) is evidently a good way for me to eat Spiritual: Full moon magic to contemplate Gratitude: scale finally moving and I managed to avoid the kitchen after dinner last night
Hit 199 on the digital scale and 195 on the spring scale this morning. I will keep eating wfpb and see what happens. I am not counting calories but it seems even eating all I do I am within calories...or something.
The art books are a pain in the patoot to download and see on digital notebook/readers. The images are tiny and if you increase the size to see things you see part of things and move on any given page very slowly. I usually look through on the size of the screen then make pages I am most interested in larger and look more closely. It is okay on the computer but not so great on a digital reader that is book sized. This is true of cookbooks and books with maps and illustrations.
I hope that some of the ladies will show up tomorrow but with roads closed today I know at least one will not come unless the road is open tomorrow. I will plan as if they are coming and make things I will eat if they cancel OR plan things that I can cook easily in the morning based on how many show up.

Affirmation: I am pleasantly and peacefully assertive. People react very favorably to this. Spiritual: Courage Physical:11,640 Steps Gratitude: A unique spin on reality. Cathy, I looked at that full moon and asked myself "What is this all about, really? If I think backwards to the void that is there prior to the thoughts then I can comprehend (or not) the universe before it exists and before we began to exist and why did we start existing anyway and what should I really be doing. Hmm.... No more looking at full moons LOL
Thanks for discussing the art books. My DD has a ton of cookbooks on her Kindle and I can't figure out how she uses them. Maybe she can look at a table of contents and then get her Kindle to go to a specific page. I am so computer illiterate.

Affirmation: I am willing to more out of my comfort zone and experience life in a new way. Spiritual: Balance Physical: 9,863 Today and 11,282 Yesterday--but ended up sidelined with a headache Gratitude: Wonderful people!
Clair and I had a very interesting Therapy event we attended. It was put on by the airport authority and was an emergency preparedness run through for any kind of disaster or near disaster pertaining to the airplanes. So they had rooms set up for such things as waiting to be checked in (relatives looking for people involved in the disaster), spiritual and counseling rooms, general rooms for people to sit in. So Clair's job was to visit with the volunteers and relatives etc that would normally be available to have a Therapy dog come up to them. The people in the spiritual/counseling area would be off limits etc. There were people who where acting like the disaster actually occurred which made it much more life like. Also the registration desk was totally life like--for instance filling out a form with your name and all pertinent contact information and who the person was looking for. Clair and I joined the group that does this work as therapy dogs connected to the Red Cross and their evacuation shelters.
Cathy, are the roads closed because of the strikes?

Affirmation: Life is interesting - there is something to learn from every day Fitness: Might walk...kind of not so interested in exercise right now but keeping my mind nimble Health: wfpb vegan is the goal for today Spiritual: Focusing on the positive - will tap into the universe in some small way today Gratitude: Friends...internet to stay in touch with family and friends
So...the laptop that my daughter brought a year ago for my Christmas present had an adapter cord die within less than a year so we paid big bucks to replace it, bought a stabilizer and I never used the new cord without the stabilizer and the new one died in less than or right around a month. The shop is in Tripoli and it is iffy to go to Tripoli today. I sent them a message and they need to see the computer and the cord SO at some point we need to try to get there. My daughter said she might take advantage of the black Friday sales and try again to bring me a computer/laptop/whatever to replace this one. That is, if it is safe for her to come in December as she plans to do.
MICHELLE: How interesting the emergency preparedness at the airport sounds! I remember triage at hospitals type events or at least studying about triage in nursing. How did Clair do? How did you do?
The roads are closed here and there and some days more roads are closed than others. So far, for the most part, the demonstrations have been peaceful. I have a friend norther of Tripoli who spends some time here and most of her time in Colorado and she has been trying to get out of where she is to at least where I live so the trip to the airport will be easier...or at least there might be less roadblocks to deal with. Anyway, s he is making the try to get south today. A Russian friend tried to go to Tripoli yesterday and had to turn around due to roadblocks. It is kind of crazy. There are also bank issues. The banks are "on strike" and there are no counters only machines to get money from and if you want dollars instead of lira, even if you have accounts in dollars, they are not giving out dollars. Money exchangers are making a LOT of money...etc. We don't go out and about unless we have to. That said...ladies (three of them) were here for lunch on Wednesday and we all had a great time with plans to meet again next Wednesday. There is no sitting prime minister or cabinet and the president is supposed to be looking for someone to take over from Hariri. In the meantime the old cabinet and PM Hariri (who resigned) are "caretakers" for the government doing minimal things to keep the country running. It is a mess...but I am fine.

Affirmation: It's better if I am the real me. Spiritual: Transcendence Physical: 5,669 Steps so far today Gratitude: A new day every day!
Cathy, The situation sounds complex. Is there actually a solution to what the majority think are the problems?
DD came out to visit and needed some serious "Mom" time. We went over her most vexing challenges and came up with some probable solutions. This was productive since I outlawed complaining or talking about her "relationship" a number of years ago since she has lots of friends who would just love to listen to and give bad advice about that stuff. We mostly talked about her professional goals.

Affirmation: I will get caught up on the reading/reviewing (someday) Fitness: I will exercising (someday) Health: I will make healthy food choices today Spiritual: I will laugh with friends this afternoon and nourish my soul Gratitude: friends
MICHELLE: When I moved here in 1978 I thought a generation would be necessary for changes to be made...it has been that or more and after over 40 years of marriage I have a feeling that this country is mired in past mistakes and was set up in a way that sectarianism will continue forever. If they can't change the constitution so that the people in the government are any Joe Blow that happens to win rather than whoever aligns with a certain religion and then political party I don't see hope. The President is always Maronite and the Prime Minister is Sunni Muslim with other main positions taken up in ways allotted by religion. There is a way forward it one could sweep out the parliament, rewrite the constitution and make every person who stole and fiddled the books accountable and make them return ill gotten gains. That sounds rather impossible. If my children's generation were able to sweep out the old and sweep in change (as the protesters are attempting to do) it might work... Nothing I can do as an expat married to a Lebanese but...am glad my kids are out.
I am glad you had a good day with your daughter and you were able to help her make some constructive decisions about her professional goals.

Affirmation: I am happy! -- I like to do affirmations of what is going on sometimes instead of ones where I have to acquire a better habit etc Spiritual: Transcendence Fitness: 6,091 Steps Gratitude: That we are all unique-makes life interesting!
Cathy, Thanks for taking the time to explain the political situation. Working out political problems seems insurmountable no matter what country we live in.
I went to a meeting tonight called a Debriefing. Hmmm......

Affirmation: Life is better than the alternative Fitness: Hmm...mental fitness is great...physical activity could be increased Health: I make healthy food choices - mental health and agility is fine Spiritual: Cool nights snuggled under comfy duvet replenish my body and spirit Gratitude: Skype - looking forward to chatting with family tonight
Had a farewell/see you next time you are in the country lunch for a friend yesterday. We had fun and talked and one woman unburdened and shared some issues she has had to deal with. I read late and wrote the review. Today...more reading and reviewing - really want to get caught up then get ahead. I would love to be a month ahead of the game.
MICHELLE: I am not sure I have the political situation here completely understood. I am happy I am safe and away from the demonstrations and that we have plenty to eat and a supply of fresh water. What in the world is a "debriefing"? It sounds like you have been on a military operation and they want feedback.

Affirmation: I listen to my intuition and act accordingly.
Spiritual: What's it all about Alfie?
Fitness: The plan is to wash some windows on the outside before it gets cold since winter is headed back our way and rake leaves. Gratitude: Common sense!
Cathy, You made me laugh about the "debriefing". Suffice it to say that I am one of those people who needs to stay out of the drama in the administrative end of organizations and just be one of the ants in the army. I love the therapy dog work but am at the Hmmm... stage with leadership 's need to make mountains of tiny molehills and then have to be debriefed about them. Fortunately I can un-join as I call it and still have much therapy work to do without all the chit chat of the "debriefing" kind. Speaking of enjoying Therapy Dog work, I have procured all the necessary Christmas cute items to affix to Clair such as bows, collar, red reindeer horns, stickers for her earrings and am ready to make people happy! Put a smile on their face! Just for those few moments have rays of glorious dog sunshine added to their lives! Onward to wandering around as a happy ant!!!
