Good morning dear fellow crafters.
Phyl, your ideas for a safe shower are excellent. Everyone should have grab bars because even young people can slip.
Ginny, I've never watch Downtown Abbey but the movie does sound interesting. Yes two year olds do have a short attention span and I would guess that she will be interested in the doll but she had so many things to look at yesterday that she was a little overwhelmed I think. The baby is 5 weeks old now and is already up from her birth weight of 5# to just under 7#. She's a good eater. Yes the house is very disorganized and no, I'm not more organized than you and in fact I'm probably one of the most disorganized people you know. The only time I was ever organized was at work because there you had to be organized since anything can happen. I did take a bunch of pictures over to dd yesterday and have a giant box of glassware to give her. Her friend's mother in law just passed away about a month ago so the friend gave my dd a lot of the mil's dishes and things but with such a large family dd can use lots of serving dishes, etc which is what most of the things I'm going to give her are.I need to find time to go thru photos that I have and plan is to give them to the grandchildren who are in the pics. They probably won't want them but they can scan them to their "devices" and toss the actual photo if they want. I'm not going to drag three huge boxes...at least...of old photos and photo albums across the country.
So today is going to be a "rummage some more" day going thru the storage space under the stairs and maybe photos
I did get dgd's infinity scarf done last night and started a cowl for her too. It's the bead stitch cowl made in the yarn called Feels like Butta and it truly is soft. It's in a dark teal since she said she likes teal.

Phyl, you brought up some great points. All I was trying to do was illustrate how my Dh and I tried to help our mothers stay in their homes alone safely. Yes there are all kinds of different grab bars and shower chairs. Find what works best for your particular application and home.
Got some cooking done, and just spent some time in the word. Going to get my sashing directions out and refresh what I have to do so that perhaps I can start working on the quilt again. Ginny

Oh my , Ruth a yarn called Feels like Butta???Sounds amazing. So glad you finished the infinity scarf- and are now working on a cowl. Wow you do get a lot done. So glad your little DGGD is a great eater. It makes if much easier for the mom and also means that she will be nice and chunky for cold season. I always thought that little ones did better in the winter a bit chunkier to help keep their immune systems strong. Ginny

Toenails are trimmed, callus on big toe less, foot taped so big toe will lie flat. I go back next Tuesday to begin the process for orthotics. He thought having a pair of boot made was a good idea and liked my Brooks tennis shoes for use with orthotics. It's strange. I have two friends who have seen him as patients and both had a very negative reaction. I'm not sure why. He's good and has been here for a lot of years. My PCP doesn't know who he is. Odd. The podiatrist ihas added an associate to his office since I was last there about three months ago.
I talked to the IRS this morning about proving I am me. They decided I am. This was about my sister's taxes. 2017 went through fine 2018 they were questioning my identity. This seems like an endless process, but that's one more piece accomplished.
cj, your fence sounds good!

Sue, in my experience I've found that almost all podiatrists recommend orthotics to every single patient. At least everyone I've talked to who has seen one has had orthotics recommended. I've thought of seeing a podiatrist but if one told me I needed orthotics I'd just tell him that I managed to walk fine of these feet for a lifetime's worth of years so don't need them. It does sound as if you do need them and have a lot of foot issues so I hope this works our for you. I don't know what Brooks shoes are. When I wear shoes it's sneakers. I liked when they finally allowed us to wear them to work. At home I always went barefoot but now in the winter I have to wear slippers because I have Raynauds and cold toes lead to painful toes.
Ginny, the yarn is made by Lion Brand. I've had this for awhile so finally decided to use it. Now I want more. I won't get more though ...well you know why...too much yarn already and moving and even if we end up not moving I do have enough yarn. I did read online that since probably all yarn except that made by local alpaca and sheep owners and those who raise other animals who's hair can be used for yarn, is made in Turkey or from fiber raised in Turkey so there is a danger of the price going way up if there are tarrifs placed on goods from Turkey.
Just did a little outside work and now am back inside and will probaby just crochet for the rest of the day except for making egg noodles for dh's soup...making noodles in my case involves opening the package and pouring them into boiling water not making the actual noodles myself.I've never made homemade pasta of any kind. Have any of you done that
Wonder how Meg is. I should send her an email.

Hello Crafters Ruth - I'm glad you had a good time yesterday. I thought you were going to say you handmade your own noodles You did still make them though I would love to know how Meg is doing. Ginny - I'm glad you enjoyed the Downton Abbey movie. I loved the series and would love to go to see the movie, but I don't like to go to the movie theater anymore. I'll wait until it's out on DVD or cable and watch it then. Sue - I'm glad you were able to get that worked out with the IRS. I'm also glad you found a podiatrist you like, and that it sounds like you get good care there. Phyl - Hope you are enjoying the Christmas movies. Sometimes I like to wait until at least November to start watching them, it just seems like a letdown by the time Christmas comes around and I've already done so much "Christmas" stuff. We had rain here this morning and early afternoon, with temps in the 60s. The sun came out at the end of the day and brought the wind with it. I think we have a windy day coming tomorrow. I went out this morning to run some errands so that I could be here the next few days in case the guys want to start painting my fence or doing a few other things around my yard. It will be nice to get things looking better. I've really let the outside of the house get rundown looking. I did a little bit of clearing on the table in my sewing room and will try to finish it the next few days before my hand quilting class. I just put the projects I had spread out into the large 2 gallon zip bags. I still have some fabric to fold up and some patterns to file away. Maybe then I'll feel like working on something. Take care everyone!

Good morning all Cold rainy night here last night. Seems windy today but the sun is not up yet, so I cannot see what the day will be like.
CJ is your hand quilting class this weekend?? I am excited for you and hope that you reinforce skills already learned, and add some new skills too. Its nice to spruce up the outside of the house- you have been working on yours for a year now and I hope its starting to look as you want it to.
Sue, that is good news that your podiatrist is willing to work with you. As long as he is willing to help you with your foot issues, who cares what others say- the treatments suggested all sound normal and reasonable.
Ruth, I wonder if Lion brand still sells that yarn, even though you are not interested. How did Dhโs soup turn out? I have made gnocchi - but. Never noodles. Been tempted to though
See yโall later! Ginny

good morning. I know it is early.the past few days I have been waking up at 4.30 GGGGGRRRR!
yesterday at the y in chair yoga Kathy fell and hit her head. she was bleeding bad. I WAS
going to take her to the er. then Mary said she would take kathy as she is a nurse. so I pushed her out to the car.(wheel chair)
kathy updated us by calling Eileen. first she wanted to go to walk in clinic.they sent her to the er. they did a cat scan. she was waiting for them to put stitches in.
on the way home she said she had to have someone stay with her for6 hours. jean was going to instead Kathy's dd stayed kathy fell hit her head against the window ledge, then down on the metal chair cart that holds all the chairs.
delona thought we should stay out of it and let the y handle it. heck they ain't gonna do
nothing.the girl did talk to kathy and gave her the incident papers to fill out. usually kathy does not sit that close to that area.
I AM SURE KATHY COULD USE A FEW PRAYERS.HOPE SHE DOES NOT HAVE TO BAD OF A HEADACHE.
YESTERDAY WE DID SOME BUMIN. I did find a shower curtain at walmart. the hem is weighted all across the bottom. that is what marge told us to get.then the curtain can't blow out on you.it is a light gray.wanted green but could not find one there.
you don't need a liner. can just take this one off and wash it.
hotel style fabric 100% waterproof shower curtain no- liner required .is treated with an agent to resit mildew.is what the label says if you are intrested.
as far as watching Christmas movies the other night I just happened to stumble on the life time channel. starting oct.25 they are going to have non-stop movies 24/7. wonder if they are trying to keep up with hallmark.
I think for awhile hallmark is going to do just fridays and saturday nights weekends to start.I WILL WAIT FOR HALLMARK. THEIR MOVIES ARE BETTER.
I need to get breakfast and get downstairs and get stuff ready to take to Nita's
we are going to work on my on point bias quilt top. the last boarder is way to big.doesn't want to match up with the quilt.phyl

Phyl, will be praying for Kathy and hope that she heals quickly. I totally agree, with Delona, the Y ought to handle this. I know they do a great service for all who attend classes there, but this is what they have an insurance policy for. Just hope Kathy is ok. Never was a big fan of Lifeitme movies- much prefer Hallmark movies.
Poor Tom, our outside sometimes cat, He is not too happy cause its not 65 and sunny anymore. Fall is indeed here so he will have to come in and rest up for spring.
I did get to read (twice!) the instructions for cutting and sewing the sashing for my BOM quilt. Have not worked on that for weeks....and really do want to finish it. Of course now is the scary part, I am no longer just potentially messing up one quilt block but am messing up the entire quilt. Yikes.
Got DGD in for a nap. Better take advantage of that and straighten up a bit. Ginny

Phyl, the weighted shower curtain sounds interesting. I'll have to look for them when I go to Walmart. Sorry your yoga classmate was injured. I pray also that she is ok and recovers fast with no headache. Did she lose consciousness?
Ginny, poor kitty. Now the poor guy has to be all cold! Today is our last warm day. It will get up in the 70's today but rest of the week is sounding like 40's and 50's which still isn't bad.
Just got in from working in the garage. I helped dh get his 12 fishing poles untangled from each other. It's like yarn only thinner. He wasn't used any of them in 11 years so they've been sitting out there in a corner. After that I went out and dug out one corner of the garage to find his many tackle boxes and in the process was able to bag up some things for the trash and got it out in time for pickup. Then of course had to shower to wash off the dust. So now I'm relaxing. There's still a lot of work to be done in that garage but we'll do it a little at a time. There are a lot of things out there for donating or garage sale. My dd mentioned having one. I don't know if she ever will but if she does I'll take all this stuff over, she can sell it and keep the money.Otherwise it goes to REscued Treasures thrift store or GW.
I finished the cowl. I don't like how the seam looks but there's really no way to make it any better. I've tried all the "great tips" that are on youtube and you can still see the seam. I started another infinity scarf. I found the pattern yesterday and it's really pretty so have to make one and try it.

Hello Crafters Phyl - I'm sorry to hear about Kathy's accident. I'll keep her in my prayers and hope she doesn't have any lingering problems. Ginny - Good luck with working on your sashing, I'm sure you'll get it right and then you'll be closer to finishing it. Ruth - I'm glad you were able to get some work done in your garage, it always feels good to get things done. Sue - Hope you are getting some crafting in. It's cool and windy here today. The house inside was only 65 degrees this morning. I tried to tough it all most of the day because I really didn't want to turn the furnace on yet, but I gave in and turned it on. I sure hope I won't have the problems with water draining out of it like I did last winter. I cleared off most of my sewing table last night and this morning. I also got my supplies together for the class. I just need to cut out two 18 by 18 inch pieces of white muslin and a piece of batting since I need those for the class too. I think I'll cut out double what I need and have the extra just in case. You never know what could happen and if nothing does then I'll have another set to work on a project. Take care everyone!

good evening. kathy is ok
talked to Delona a little while ago. they spent 5 hours at he er. her had quit bleeding so they waited. that is unusual for our hospitals.ago..
she got 5 clamps in her head, they did a ct scan to make sure everything was ok.
jeanne was going to spend the night with her. kathy's dd did.
kathy was at they this am. walked the track with Ron twice.i am sure she had to turn the papers in about yesterday's fall.
this is the third head injury. one time she fell off a ladder. another time she was on a bank doing her flowers and fell.
thinks she needs to take some balance classes or falling clases.
the nancy a ex ww recorder was on the treadmill with next to delona. so when jeanne and roloan updated delona, nancy got the jest it.t hen it was she shouldn't be it in that class. I'm not taking that class.
nancy is one who has the best of everything and knows every thing..we use to be friends, now we rub each other the wrong way.
i spent the afternoon at nita's. she helped me get my head straight on how to measure a quilt for boarders espically with cut on the bias.
I am doing a baby quilt on point. it is a pattern from the top outside boarder had way to much fabric to fit the top.
thank you for the prayers for kathie.appricate them. love phyl.

Good morning all
Phyl- that is good news that Kathy is ok. It sounds as though she might need a balance class or something like that. They now market some excercise platform that you can use at home to help with balance issues. Perhaps that would be good for her. Glad you spent the time with Nita to get the bias cut on borders figured out. Why do we subject ourselves to this kooky habit called quilting?? So much to learn and its not a cheap hobby either.
Ruth, my Dh has no patience for detangling fish line/ fish poles either. There has to be a better way- they always seem to become messed up. Regarding the cowl, can you actually make the seam a part of a design by creatively covering it?? Not sure how large a cowl it is, but I am thinking perhaps gathering at the seam ever so much and either crochetting or pinning on a pretty flower or pin. Hope you like the way the new scarf turns out. Thats the problem with a new pattern- you are never sure how it will turn out. Hope this pattern is a winner...
CJ- good idea cutting out double for your class. Gives you lots of room to practice. I would think that a lot of practice helps...you have taken a class on quilting by hand before right? BTW- we put our heat on too. Its a bit chilly and feels so good.
Well I am ripping the house apart looking for a doll that Dd#1 thinks is here. She wants it for DGD#1 to play with. Gotta go back to the hunt for this. Right now I do not have a good idea where it might be. See ya later Ginny

Just to add this, Mr Tom, our outside/ inside cat has made the executive decision to sleep in and stay warm. He would much rather be outside, but has a hard time fighting a nice warm bed.

Tom is a smart cat!
Phyl, thanks for updating us on Kathy. Do you know her well or just from this class? I was wondering if she has a history of falling? I agree that she probably needs balance therapy. It's great that they did a head CT. but I wonder if there's a medical reason for her falling off the chair. Have a good time at your class and I'm glad to hear your friend was able to help you with the bias cut question you had
CJ, I think that it's a great idea to have two of each of the items needed for the class. You never know what will happen even though you're an experienced quilter. I bet your yarn looks really nice now with that new fence. I hope you enjoy the class and have safe travel.
Ginny, I forgot to answer your question about the yarn, Feels like Butta. Yes they do still sell it and in fact I looked it up on the walmart site because they don't sell it at my local Walmart and online you can buy it individually for something like 5.96 to $8 or you can buy bundles of three of one color for $9. Guess which I would choose. I won't order though since I already have ...well you know....but I do really like the yarn. And thank you for the suggestion of putting something over that seam. Fantastic idea. When making earwarmers, if there's a seam and it doesn't look good I usually cinche it in over the seam and since that's trendy it works well. It could work on a cowl too I'm thinking and I could start a new trend in cowls. The do already have the moibus ones that twist so why not cinched.
Last night I started a hat that people on the crochet group said was fast and easy. Well for them maybe but it's taking me time. It's a form of a cable and I'm not real experienced in cables yet but I think I'm doing it correctly so it should go better from now on
overcast, dreary and wet day here and also colder as promised. 44 degrees right now
