Today I was just reading over the old Core list of foods from around 2004, and I'm wondering, Why the heck didn't I try it? Just about everything under the sun is on the list...except for bread, of course. Two teaspoons of healthy oil required. All FF dairy, whole grains galore, F&V, potatoes, lean meats including beef. On top of everything, you got your 35 weekly points for whatever you wanted. I believe that when Core became Simply Filling, "lite" bread was added.

I believe that when Core became Simply Filling, "lite" bread was added. The light breads and muffins never did us any good in California because no such thing is sold here. It was at one time, but disappeared from shelves due to low demand. I have a firm memory that fat-free half-and-half was on the Simply FIlling list at one point, but it disappeared. That had made SFT doable for me becauase I could use FFHH in my coffee. Skim milk just doesn’t cut it for me. I’m waiting to see what the Purple plan zero-foods list actually contains. With 300 foods and a daily allowance of at least 16 SPs it is conceivable that I could be happy with that plan. 28 days to the roll-out.

zazzles I was thinking the same thing. It would depend on how many weeklies I would get though.I do need 28 days to get some of my current foods out of the house.LOL.

Sorry about my news

In my opinion, Core was the most solid plan...simple, easy and manageable. It had/has everything, plus the 35 weeklies. A couple of common sense rules like if you have pasta for lunch, you don't have rice at dinner. Mike, half and half is 1 point for 2 tablespoon 😆😆😆

The Core Plan was my favorite weight loss eating plan of all time. Though my husband has never officially dieted in his life, he adored when I was following the Core Plan. I enjoyed using many Core foods I had not before then (i.e. quinoa, polenta). On Core, a serving of avocado (1/4 avocado) was allowed as were olives in brine or counting any oil. I used points for low point foods like Wasa crispbread or other foods I'd eat as a treat, like a small amount of real Parmesan cheese. I did miss some desserts, but fat free pudding and fat free no sugar added smoothies and espresso drinks helped satisfy that. I remembered making a yummy brown rice "Core pudding" I liked.
I can't speak for others that followed the Core Plan, but I felt that Core was most enjoyed by hubby and me because I've always been an enthusiastic home cook. I never saw it as one good for a person who likes quick convenience food. I know that I would benefit greatly from more Core eating in my life. Unfortunately, there have been times when "enthusiastic cooking" has not always been possible.

My favorite was Core too. I loved the sugar free pudding.

Agree to last years comments, just cancelled my online membership and am going back to the old core diet, easier to remember, cook and follow. Really wondered what ever happened to it. Always works for me when I follow the food lists from the old book which I still have. Yay for 2004, that was a good year!

I never fully followed Core, but I got some great ideas from that list that I still use today. Like whole grains. I started to try many different types of whole grains, and I eat them often, and frequently instead of bread.

@ knuckles491, IMO, WW ruined Core when they added the light breads. The original Core was unbroken. I loved being able to not count avocados and olives. The restriction on one serving per day of brown rice pasta, potatoes or rice I think? Made it more accountable. The Core message board was fun too - all the creative recipes and food combos we came up with. So many members were distrustful of it though. A lot of people couldn't comprehend the "enough to feel satisfied" and zero points for things like meat and fat free dairy, and interpreted it as "all you can eat of free foods." Those who did well on it were very successful and felt health benefits from it, too.

PS - a lot of us from the Core Plan board used Heather's Recipes. Heather took the site down, alas, but here is a discussion about it and some of the recipes: Heather's Recipes
