Roof is all done, they have to return tomorrow to fix a small issue but other than that it looks great and the yard is all cleaned up.
CJ- well all of us have to do laundry, so I guess its a good thing that yours is done.and you do not have to take care of that for awhile. I am curious about the table topper! Do you have the fabrics for that and do you hope to make that soon? Its a nice small project, not too involved and fairly easy to accomplish. Would not be that hard to long arm or expensive to have someone else do it, if you like. What hand quilted piece are you working on? Was that something you worked on in class? As far as all these expensive sewing machines, I do under stand, they are very computerized and have so many functions. But I wonder what the markup on them is, because honestly it seems as though there is probably a huge mark up and they are not that expensive to manufacture. Of course that does not mean that I do not in some aspects want some of the features only found in the pricey machines. Like you, I doubt I would use it enough to make it worth the while for me.
Going to go see if I can make some sense out of the sashing directions. Have a great night all Ginny

CJ, did laundry yesterday so mine is done now for awhile too. We have a lot of clothes so I tend to leave it until a get a decent size load. Hate to use the whole machine for just a few things even though it had the adjustment for small, med, and large loads of course. I think a table topper is a great idea.I hope you can get that and your hand quilted project done and it inspires you to go back to the craft you love
Ginny, it's great that they got the roof done and will come tomorrow and take care of the issues. I think there's always something that needs a finishing touch.
I've been sorting thru more yarn again today. Having to sit in one place and not walk too much is very conducive to doing things like that that are put off for another day...another day is here.
Ok I think I'll go do a little crocheting now for the rest of the evening. Have a good night all.

Good morning! Actually it’s good afternoon.
Ruth, I’m glad that you’re feeling well enough to be able to get some crocheting done, but it does sound as though you’re suffering some discomfort. Take it easy, and try to remember the things that you did to help this pass the last time. I’m hoping and praying that this episode does not last long. Crocheting is a great way to pass time. The process of sorting through yarn is tedious indeed. I know you have identified someone that will take small quantities of yarn. I hope you can figure out what you’re going to do with all of it, although I’m sure you’ve got lots of great projects on your list.
Well I worked this morning. And now my granddaughter is here. She is due up from her nap soon. So I’m trying to get dinner made. I did get my sashing fabric ironed last night and was trying to get it marked for cutting and then the point broke on my fabric pencil. I was tired so I stopped. At least I’ve got a start. Hope everyone’s having a great day! Ginny

Hello Crafters Ginny - I'm glad they finished the roof and I hope they get everything else done today. I remember checking around the yard after my roof was done last year just to make sure I didn't find any nails that they had left. Sorry about your fabric pencil, hope you can get another one so you can finish wit the sashing. Ruth - Glad you got your laundry done too and I hope the yarn sorting is moving along. The hand quilting I was talking about is from the class last weekend. They had us trace from a stencil onto the fabric we brought and then we basted the fabric with the batting and backing and started the hand quilting, so I need to finish that. Here's a link to the pattern for the table topper I was talking about. I don't have any fabrics picked out yet. I'll probably do a test one for me before I'd try to do a nice one with Christmas fabrics to give as a gift: www.sweettreasuresquilts.com/shop/Shop-for-Kits/TablerunnerMatTopper-Kits/p/Centerpiece-Tablemat-kit---Sweet-Christmas-in-White-x42146871.htmwww.sweettreasuresquilts.com/shop/Shop-for-Kits/TablerunnerMatTopper-Kits/p/Centerpiece-Tablemat-kit---Sweet-Christmas-in-Red-x42146847.htmwww.sweettreasuresquilts.com/shop/Sweet-Treasures-Patterns/p/The-Centerpiece-Tablemat-pattern-x18602457.htmI don't know if I talked about the sign that had been on my old split rail fence or not. I think I might have -it is for a Day School Nursery that is down the road that runs beside my house. My father had let them put the sign up years ago. I took it down before they tore down the old fence and then today I put it back up again (after I'd bought a cordless screwdriver). The screws didn't go all the way into the wood, but I think it's on there tight enough. I'll just keep an eye on it to see if it gets loose. I thought about not putting it back up but I wanted to be a better neighbor than some of the people around here have been to me. I figure the sign isn't hurting anymore and I can't even see it when I look out the window since it's covered up by a tree. I threaded a few needles last night so I can get the hand quilting piece down, but I'm not sure I'll work on it today. It's a beautiful fall day here again, mild with sunny skies. Take care everyone!

CJ, I love the table topper It's great in any of those colors. I hope you enjoy making it. Whoever you gift it to is bound to love it. Will you be doing it in Christmas fabric or in regular fabric so that it can be used all year. Yes you did mention the sign and I think it's extremely nice of you to not only put the sign back up but to buy the cordless screwdriver to put it up with.
Ginny, sorry about your fabric pencil. I hope it can be re sharpened or is it one that will need to be replaced? I'm glad to hear that you were able to get the sashing fabric ironed.
Dh and I did take a little ride out toward the lake but didn't go all the way. He needed to go to the bank then we went grocery shopping. It's 6pm now and I think I'll play a couple online games then crochet while dh naps. I know he's tired after all the exercise. We'll be home now until Tues when I have a doctor appointment so I need to finish up some projects then will be free to work on sorting and planning.

Good evening, CJ- I love the pattern for the table topper!!! Cannot wait to see what color scheme you select and if you choose to make it for Christmas or just everyday use. It looks like a nice project, not too big and overwhelming- something fairly easy to accomplish without a lot of headaches. I am glad that you got some needles threaded, a good first start for finishing the handquilting project. (A good way to prevent procrastination too!!) So nice that you had pleasant weather today, and that made hanging that sign again more pleasurable. Kudos to you for being a good neighbor and hanging it.
Ruth- hope you were comfortable driving in the car today. Its good to hear that you have an appointment on Tuesday and can hopefully get some answers with regard to your IC. Rest well tonight and hopefully rest comfortably.
Had all the kids over for dinner today, so I got nothing done in the way of crafting. DGD#1 wants me to teach her how to quilt. She is only 7 so that will be a challenge, but I will have to find some easy project to get her feet wet. Long day and I am tired. See everyone in the morning. Ginny

Hello Crafters - Hope you are all doing well today
Ruth - Hope you enjoyed your online games and some crocheting. I'm glad you were able to get out for a ride. There are days when I would just love to go for ride like we used to do on Sundays when I was a kid. But the traffic these days can sure take some of the pleasure out of it.
Ginny - I bet that was nice having all your kids over for dinner. I'm happy for you that they are all close enough to do that. How sweet that your DGD#1 wants you to teach her to quilt. I've seen lots of people teaching kids to quilt on my internet searching, so I bet you could find some projects that way. I'm so happy that there are many in the younger generations still wanting to learn to do all the different crafts. Did the roof work get done yesterday?
I might try a test table topper in some fall fabrics and then if I make the gift for my cousin it would be in Christmas fabrics.
It's a nice day here again, I'm enjoying the fall weather. I've been spending some time searching out 55+ communities in about a 2 hour (or so) radius from where I live. It's fun, but kind of depressing too. I'll see something that I like, but it's usually too expensive. Then I'll see another one that I can afford, but it has some things that I just don't want in a house (gas appliances and/or fireplace and basements). I know I won't find something that's completely perfect, but I hope I can find something that is good enough
I saw a quilt on a blog the other day that I really like the design of and I'm thinking I could use the design to make a quilt with some things I already have, I'll try to describe it all to you.
Here is the actual quilt (the Wine Country quilt):
catpatches.blogspot.com/2019/10/a-finish-and-start.html
These are some pre-embroidered lighthouse blocks that I bought several years ago at a quilt show. I think I have about 10 or 12 of them, so this gives you an idea of what they look like (they are blue thread):
www.kingstreasureswebstore.com/product_p/11-6-144.htm
(You might like looking around this website above, they have some really neat pre-embroidered blocks. I have several others of theirs that I want to make into quilts one day.
My idea is that I could put the lighthouse blocks in each square and use a blue fabric for the squares around the lighthouses. For the lighter fabric around the squares and the inner border I would use some sky fabric, maybe something like this (I have several pieces of sky fabric):
www.fabric.com/buy/0333299/timeless-treasures-beach-pass-sky
And then for the outer border I would use a lighthouse print fabric (I have several different lighthouse fabrics too):
www.hancocks-paducah.com/Quilting-Treasures-Dan-Morris-Smooth-Sailing-Butterscotch-Lighthouses?quantity=1&custcol_tt_itemoption_decimals=1
Hope all the links work. I was glad to see this quilt layout since it would work really nice for these pre-embroidered blocks.
Take care everyone!

Good afternoon CJ. The things you mentioned in your lighthouse quilt is excellent info and it sure sounds like a great quilt to make. It will be beautiful so I hope you can get that made and maybe show us a picture when it's done. I'm thinking of using that concept for a quilt using my Peanuts fabric. Of course, as you know, I'm not a quilter so it will be a "nontraditional" quilt. I'm just the opposite of you in my preference of appliances. I would absolutely LOVE to have a gas stove. I'm not all that fond of gas heat. And my electric dryer so far has lasted for 32 years so I'm not sure if I would get an electric or gas if I had the option. We don't have gas here so we have no choice but to use electric. I've wanted a gas stove though ever since we moved here. In all but one of the houses we've looked at so far it's been electric all the way.
I really haven't accomplished a thing yet today except for calling the prescription part of my advantage plan and signing up for mail order..that way I can get 3 months at a time which will solve the problem of figuring out how to get my meds while in Ky or Ind. I don't know about dh's though. Still have to look into that. I don't know how these ins companies handle meds for "snow birds" while they're in another state.I would guess they would still go by your primary residence but I actually have no clue.
Oh and I did look at a project I started 10 years ago which was a knit hat. I'm not sure if I'll finish knitting it or change and make something in crochet with the yarn instead. It looks like I only have maybe three rows done on it so far so ripping out won't be a big deal. Back in I think it was 2007 I made a lot of knitted hats one of which which was for dh and he's been wearing it ever since. I really need to make him another because that one is all stretched out and he can only wear it in the house which he does because he has a "naked" head.I've made him crochet hats but he likes knit better.
Ginny, it's wonderful that you had all the family over for dinner. I used to do that on holidays but haven't done it in years. Only meals I've cooked for family since then have been the ones I made for my son and whoever he brought with him for a visit and also for my sister of course while she was here. I'm not much of a hostess.

hi,
I am alive and feeling a lot better.3 days of being stuffy and the first day I felt like my eyes were going to drop out. never felt like that before.
still stuffy.
as for markers, Lori Kennedy said one of the markers she likes is a crayola utlra marker. she said it washes out. she has heat set it and it came out. wish I could try one before buying the box. you have to go into the crayola dept to buy them. no wonder quilt shops did not know what I was talking about and look at me like "what the hell" is she talking about.
yey Ruth depending on the marker they can be sharpened.
this am I went to my playpen.almost got the top for the neighbor's baby quilt done. tomorrow hope to sandwich it.I AM GOING TO SANDWICH SOME OF THESE PROJECTS AND QUILT AT THE RETREAT.
we leave on the 4th.that is coming so fast. phyl

Good evening, Phyl, so you will be doing your own quilting on the play quilt and the others you are taking with you? Are you free motioning them, or stitching in the ditch- or something similar? Hard to believe t hat this retreat is right around the corner. Good that you are getting your projects lined up to work on at the retreat - so you can pack up now or very soon and not have to make last minute decisions. I have never heard of the crayola ultra marker, but know that most web sites have reviews by users. You could check it out online and see what others think.
CJ-I am glad you are looking for a nice community to move into. I watch shows like House Hunters a lot, and well, for the average person, they have to make concessions sometimes. When we bought this house, I wanted to convert the dryer to gas (its electric). The practical side of me did not force Dh into it, so we have had an electric dryer all these years. I would not like to have an electric stove ( fortunately we have gas for the stove). Guess we all have our particular likes and dislikes....and if I were in your position I think my #1 and #2 deciding factor would be good location and affordability. THanks for posting the links for the lighthouse panels and fabrics. Think you have some great ideas for this quilt, and I Hope you get the opportunity to put the quilt together. I think it will be adorable- and all the fabrics would coordinate really well. That table topper you posted yesterday would be lovely in fall fabrics. I am sure it would be heartbreaking to have to go to Joanns to pick up some fabric for that.
Ruth, guess its time to make a new hat for Dh! Do you know what color you will crochet a hat for him from? Or will you knit this one? That is a good idea figuring out the mail order situation and how they will provide meds for you and Dh in different states. I am sure that they have a way to deal with the situation, and that you cannot be the only one with this concern. How is your IC today?
So....yes they finished the roof and it looks great. I am really happy with the color and the style of shingles. Actually got to cutting the sashing for the quilt, did not finish cutting it but started cutting and got 3 strips done. Hope to work on it some more tomorrow. Have a great night all Ginny

Ginny, when we bought our dryer it was ab about a year before moving andthe sales person told us we shouldn't buy an electric dryer because they didn't last but we knew we had to get electric because we had no idea if the house we would be living in would have gas or not. and he was wrong anyway...as I mentioned it's lasted 32 years. I hope it lasts for three more years because at that time I'm just going to be leaving this house and that dryer so don't want to have to buy a new one to have to leave
Phyl, you have great plans for the retreat and I hope you can get your quilts sandwiched and do whatever it is that comes next...quilting then binding?
Been gathering things together and packing some up but then I ran into a dilemma...where is my set of new pans? I bought them a couple years ago and thought they were in the little room off the master bathroom where store extra things but they aren't there. Looked in the two other places we keep things like that and they're not there either. Well they have to be in this house somewhere. The box hasn't even been opened yet but I don't even know where to look next

Hello Crafters
Phyl - I've read lots of recommendations for the Crayola Washable markers - the fine point ones. I haven't tried them yet, but I might if I'm doing some more hand quilting so I could use them for marking. Hope you can get several quilts sandwiched to take with you.
Ruth - I think getting those prescriptions set up was something big that you did. I remember all the hassles I had with my father's prescriptions and keeping up with ordering them and getting new written ones from the doctors when needed. Hope you can find your pans, they have to be somewhere
Ginny - I'm glad the roof looks good and I hope you were able to get to your sashing. I'm trying to "buy" all my fabric in CJ59's stash
Sue - Hope you are getting some crafting in.
I tried the table topper pattern today and it went together pretty quickly, cutting the strips took the most time. It is a little bit tricky putting on the first strip of each row around the center and I needed to make sure to have enough fabric overhanging at the start for when I made it all the way around the center and finished sewing the last strip.
I only put 3 rows around the center (instead of 4) and for the last row I used the same fabric as the center (it's a fall fabric with red, green, gold and orange leaves and a bit of brown in it too). I used those same colors for the strips in the first two rows. This made it about 2 inches less than the size indicated on the finished one in the pattern, but I think it's plenty big enough. My center is a bit puffy and doesn't lay flat but the fabric is very thin and I think that's part of the reason. I figure it will lay flat after quilting. I need to find a backing fabric and cut some batting and then figure out the quilting.
It's cloudy and cool here today and we're supposed to have rain tomorrow. A nice weekend to stay home.
Take care everyone!

Phyl, I meant to say that I'm glad you're feeling better. It would be a shame to have tomiss the retreat because of being sick
CJ, the table topper does sound beautiful and I'm sure it's a good size. "Buying" from your stash sounds like a really good plan. I'm trying to do that with yarn too.
Well I finally got busy and cleaned out the storage area under the stairs...No pans there either but I did get out a LOT of Christmas stuff I'm going to give to dd. I never decorate for Christmas but I did keep some little ornaments to set out at Christmas this year. I have a whole bag of Christmas lights that dh bought a couple years ago. I don't know why he bought them since we never put lights anywhere but he still wants to hold onto them so we'll see what happens. As far as the pans go well I'm sure that any day I'll find them right in front of my eyes somewhere.
Now I'm going to go and do some crocheting. At least that's my plan

Lots has been done, I can see! Fence replaced, roof replaced, down sizing with lost new set of pans! Creative thinking and crafty planning!
Our weather has been schizophrenic. Sunshine and 70 yesterday and six inches of snow at 27 this morning, going down to zero for a low one night this week. It's confusing!
This morning I had breakfast with my breakfast pal. On the way home I stopped to pick up two prescriptions and a few grocery items. The pharmacy had six doses of the senior flu vaccine, so I finally got my shot. I'll call in the morning to make sure they still have one for hb before I leave the house.
On Friday I received a box of variegated yarn from Ice Yarns (Turkey). It's been years since I've purchased anything from there. Someone on Knitting Paradise was complaining about all the variegated yarns. One response was a photo of some she had just received. They have the same excellent service. Although shipping is high, the cost of the yarn is VERY reasonable. So I have a box of new goodies to work with!
Prescriptions: I use the three month mail order component of my prescription plan, but there are always a few that have to be picked up at the pharmacy.

Phyl, how are you feeling? Hoping that you are doing much better and are able to get organized to go away on your retreat.
Sue, that box of yarn sounds perfect! I have never heard of that company, but its always nice to hear of a good company to buy from and especially one with great service. Enjoy your new goodies and all the neat projects you will make! Got specific plans for this yarn? Glad you got your flu shot...
Ruth, now are the new pots in my daughters garage? (That is where the doll she had me looking for). Golly I hope you find them, and I think each of us knows how frustrating it is to have to tear a house apart looking for something. I am glad you are saving some ornaments to put out for Christmas. ITs a nice way to cheer up a house in the winter. Hope you got some crocheting in.
CJ the table topper sounds so very pretty!! Glad you figured out the intricacies of putting it together - I am sure it looks great. Were you able to find a fabric for the back in? Bet the topper is going to look so pretty and I hope you will enjoy it!! (Or did you make it for a gift?)
We too are in for the rain that CJ will be getting. Busy day today, which included laundry, a walk with Dd#2, a quick trip for leaf bags, raking some leaves, and then vacuuming. I tried to get a lot done today so that tomorrow I can hopefully after church get back to my sashing. Nice to see everyone here today....hope that Phyl is ok. Ginny
