Babysitting today.... and just got the call that my sister in law is in the hospital. Will be heading up there later with Dh- who is very upset. Probably will not be back later on to chat.
I did finish cutting the sashing and did a preliminary layout of the blocks last night. Nice to get some time in playing with fabric. Take care all Ginny

Ginny, I'm sorry to hear about your sister in law being hospitalized. I'll be praying.
another cold day here but no snow so far just what's left from yesterday. We'll see what tomorrow brings.
Did a little more sorting of things and now am going to spend the rest of the day crocheting and reading maybe. Oh and I need to write some letters.

HI GIRLS, BEEN IN MY PLAYPEN AND AM NOT HAPPY. DID THE KITTY QUILT. SEWED AROUND AND GOT IT TURNED INSIDE OUT..WHEN I TRIMMED IT GOT A LITTLE TO CLOSE TO THE STITCHING AND CUT A LITTLE WHERE I SEWED IT. PROBABLY DON'T HAVE TIME TO REDO THAT PART. SHOULD HAVE USED A HALF INCH SEAM.
DON THINKS QUILTS LOOK BETTER WITH THE BINDING.
I GET IT APART,MAY JUST LEAVE THE BATTING OUT. HAS A FLANNEL BACKING. ALL THAT WORK.
SO FAR NO DUSTING OF SNOW. MIGHT GET SOME FLURRIES TONIGHT HALL-O-WEEN WE MAY HAVE A MIX. SO PROBABLY NOT TO MANY KIDS. OUR STREET IS SO DARK.LAST YEAR WE HAD ABOUT 35 KIDS. THAT IS THE MOST WE HAD IN YEARS. USE TO GET ABOUT 100. THEY ALL GREW UP AND WENT WHEREVER. NOW SOME OF THE NEIGHBORHOODS ARE GETTING YOUNG PEOPLE AGAIN.
GINNY PRAYERS FOR DSIL WILL BE SAID. PHYL

Hello Crafters Ginny - I'm sorry to hear about your DSIL, I hope she will be alright. I'll keep all of you in my prayers. Sue - That was a lot of snow you received, but probably your area is used to that. When that happens where I live, everything is pretty much shut down Phyl - Sorry to hear about the problem with your quilt, hope you can fix it. I live on a main road and don't get kids at Halloween anymore, but I wouldn't open the door anyway. Hope you do get some small kids, I'm sure it's fun to see their excitement and costumes. Ruth - Hope you are staying warm and getting some crocheting done. I went out shopping today with a cousin. We went to a new(er) grocery store about 20 miles away. She hadn't been there yet, so I asked her if she wanted to go. This is a southern based chain, so they have some products that we can't find around where we live. It was a beautiful fall day and we had a nice ride there and back and picked up a few groceries. We also stopped at Tractor Supply Company (not sure if you all have these stores) so I could get some sunflower seeds. They have a great selection of bird seed and I also buy suet cakes there in the winter. Take care everyone!

CJ, we have a Tractor supply here. It's been here for a few years but we've never stopped there. It's on the other side of the highway when we're going toward town and always think that we'll stop on the way home but by that time we're either too tired or have frozen things to get home. The Southern based grocery store sounds interesting. It's one of the things I like about going other places...seeing the different grocery stores. Where we're thinking of moving pretty much has the same ones we do except they have Aldi's which everyone says is a great store but I've seen their ads and it doesn't look like they have very good prices. I was under the impression that they were less expensive than other stores such as Kroger.
Phyl, so sorry about your quilt. I hope you can fix it without too much of a problem. We don't get kids on Halloween here and this year it's going to be way too cold for kids to go out. Of course they still will be out anyway but we won't see any.
I'm so excited...I learned how to text on my "new" smart phone (got it back in May...my first smart phone). I've had a LOT of other cell phones and found them very easy to use. This smart phone is a while different story..It just seems so complicated to do a simple thing like that. I was talking to a realtor and she wanted me to text her the address of the house i wanted info on. She was driving and couldn't write it down. I sent the text and she actually received it ok

Ginny, I'm sending gentle hugs for your SIL and family members.
We had an afternoon of snow. In an hour, there was close to six inches of new snow, just after hb's caregiver finished clearing snow off the back deck! Tomorrow when I wake up the temperature will be -5 degrees, a new record low for the date. This is atypical. Winter lasts a long time here, but this is my first experience with no fall. There's no telling where the snow will be in the morning. Gusty winds came up as an encore, so it could be blocking the driveway. The weather is supposed to warm up in a few days, but this could really be winter.

Good morning all you great crafter friends! Well it's really cold today and snowing again. I rescheduled my appointment for next week. I really would have liked to get it over with but its looking nasty out and I'm not sure my truck will start. If course I didn't even try because...well...too cold and nasty so I'll stay in and do some things here. Have a good day all

Hello Crafters Ruth - I love to go in grocery stores when I visit other parts of the country. I think it's fun to see the different products. Sorry to hear you are having cold weather and snow. Sue - Hope your weather doesn't get any worse. It sounds like it's going to be really cold. Do you have ways to heat the house if you lose electricity? I hope so. Ginny - I hope that your SIL is doing better, please let us know when you have a chance. Phyl - Hope you are making progress getting your quilts ready to go away. I haven't done much of anything today, just not motivated. I did move my hand quilting piece from the class down to my living room (from the sewing room) so hopefully that will motivate me to finish it. I haven't done anymore with the table topper. Take care everyone!

Thanks to each of you for the kind thoughts, prayers and hugs for my SIL. We spoke to her/her daughter and husband at some point yesterday and there are still many questions. SIL has asked for privacy-so we are not calling or bothering them today. I assume that there is no change or things have improved because we have heard nothing today. At the end of yesterday I was left with the impression that she had a reaction to another condition, not the cancer that she has (either stomach or esophageal). Again, for her sake and Dh’s I hope that she is ok and pulls through this. Supposedly, chemo and radiation begin next week. (I always thought that they were administered apart from each other). There is a lot of misinformation and confusion coming from the family- and therefore many questions I cannot answer. Again, thanks to each of you for being my friend. Dh is not handling this well- today he was ok, but he is overall very upset by this news about his sister. It will be interesting living with him through this.
Aw Phyl, I am so sorry about the Kitty quilt. I have done the same thing myself., one snip too many ..think most of us who sew have had that happen and its so frustrating. Yes I agree with Don, a binding sure looks nice on a quilt but, well you might just have to attach the flannel back and be done with it. I am sure it looks great otherwise and only you and perhaps Don will notice the issue. Again, thanks for the prayers...
CJ- we have tractor supply here too- and its where I buy my black oil sunflower seed to feed the birds. They have great prices and also you can join that frequent buyer club and get some extra reductions quarterly. And yes I buy the suet blocks there too. As far as southern food chains, I have been to Publix, Harris Teeter and Food Lion. (Do not think Food Lion is all that much of a southern chain, but its surely more southern than I am). Glad you had the day out with your cousin on a nice fall day. Did you get your momentum up to work on the hand quilting piece? I do appreciate the prayers.
Ruth- congrats on sending that text!!!! Its a pretty amazing thing to do and the first time feels miraculous. Were you able to locate a good prospective house? Aldi’s is ok. My MIL loved it, she thought they had great prices. I have been in there once, maybe twice but will never go out of my way to shop there. I stick with Walmart, Shoprite (which none of you have as its a local chain) and BJ’s. So now I can harrass you about going to that doctor appointment next week. I do hope you go.....just to get yourself checked out. How is the health care in Indiana where you are considering moving?? Did you get much snow today? Your prayers are greatly appreciated.
Sue, if I am reading correctly, the 6 inches (yikes!) of snow will melt soon. This seems to early for true winter weather....hope you can get some fall days in before it really becomes winter. Glad that Hb’s caregiver cleared off the snow from the deck- I can imagine it would be difficult for you to do with a painful foot. Any idea when those orthotics will be in? I do appreciate the gentle hug....
Ok so here is my funny texting story. Ds was in HS and I had a flip phone- no qwerty keyboard....and he was out and supposed to be home by 12. It was almost 1 and I knew he was not home yet. So i picked up my flip phone (with 3 letters on each key, ouch) and texted “where r u?”. It took me 20 minutes to type it, no exaggeration. With great pride I hit send. And waited.....about a minute later he texted back “Mom?”. Big shock to him that his lame mother figured out how to text. Well I somehow said yes, and then he said ok he would be home in 20 minutes. That ruined it for him as now he knew I could keep up with him, sort of. (He was and still is a good person.....I was just worried that night).
Ok, worked this am, then DGD#2. Now she is adorable- as cute as they get, but today she gave me a run for the money. Her nap was short and she was just very silly. I gave her some homemade creamy chicken noodle soup- and went to heat up more for her, and caught her grabbing the Tupperware container to eat straight out of that. She is a great eater... I had fun with her but she wore me out.
Pastors wife came over and we finally swapped quilt fabric. Tomorrow is our road trip to the LQS, where I promise you all I will spend money. Ha ha ha. I just have a feeling I will find something good.
Have I babbled enough???
Have a good night all Ginny

Well looks like it's going to be an interesting night. Possible wind chill of -30 they say and right now at 9pm is 5 below zero already. So lights are on in an attempt to keep pipes from freezing.
I was sure surprised when they gave me an appointment for next week. When I called for the appointment that was scheduled for today I had to wait two weeks and sometimes you have to wait even longer. The woman i talked to at the appointment desk was the same on both times. Shes wonderful. they have about four I think that make the appointments and the others are not as helpful and friendly as this one. She told me that if the weather is bad next week too to just call back and she will reschedule me again. And she talked about how awful the weather was and that it was a good idea for me to stay home. I'm going to make her one of my "famous" hot pads, and two sizes of potholder because she's so nice.I hope she likes them.
Ginny, sorry to hear that your sister in law has cancer. I hope they can find the right treatment for it and it is for a cure.
CJ, there are some days where I, too, just am not motivated to do any crafting. Today I did work on a hat but for some reason it was too big in the actual hat part. Brim was perfect so I ripped it out back to the brim and will make a different hat or use a smaller hook...not sure yet. I remember back when we used to camp in the Adirondack mts and would go into the town for groceries. I loved the Grand Union stores there. I've been to one Food Lion store and wasn't impressed.Even in Arkansas we didn't have any of the stores I've heard of that are the southern ones like Winn Dixie or Piggly Wiggly. They had only a local store there in the village and in the town was a Kroger and another that I I think might have been Price Chopper but I don't know if we actually went in that one.
Ok I think I'm going to make an earwarmer. I wanted to get some exercise today so went out and shoveled a little snow and forgot to wear gloves! My hands were really cold but evidentally my Raynaud's didnt act up because my fingers didn't hurt then and still don't.anyway I didnt wear a hat either so need to get some earwarmers and gloves ready if this is going to continue to be a horrible weather winter. I had hoped to be out of this area by now...house hunting is not going like I expected. I would have had a house long ago but dh keeps picking strange ones and thankfully they didn't end up being something we wanted to buy. He has a really strange one that he's looking at now.

Oh and Ginny, yes I have heard that recent research has found that giving concurrent radiation and chemo works the best for certain cancers. They say the chemo enhances the benefit of radiation. They didn't used to do both concurrently. Now there is radiation, chemo, surgery, and immunotherapy and they used to be done one after another. Of course Immumotherapy is the newest

I don't know that it actually got as cold as they forecasted and there was no wind so the wind chill didn't get that bad. About 1am the temp actually went up from -5 to -3. I don't know what happened later.
I have a pot of homemade chicken soup simmering right now. The soup you mentioned, Ginny, that your grandaughter was eating sounds good. How do you make it creamy? And speaking of your grandaughter, again I have to say that she sounds so cute and a fun child to be with. They are tiring sometimes though even though they are cute and fun.
Well today I'm going to start on the gift for one of the receptionists at the clinic. With this cold weather I'm wondering if an earwarmer would be a better gift than hotpads and potholders but you never know if a person uses hats or earwarmers. I know I never do. I just never have except probably back when we used to take our children sleddling and maybe not even then. What do you all think?

Ok so yes I have also been in a Winn Dixie....and the Grand Union closed as a corporation about15 years ago. We used to have on in town here, and there used to be one in Warrensburg NY- on the way into the Adirondacks. (You are right Ruth!) Once you get into the Adirondacks - well there are no stores for at least an hour drive.....so you have to stock up at the anchor stores at places like Warrensburg and that is it for the week. We also have Price Chopper here in town. That chain is limited to NY and a tiny amount in Pa....nice stores but a little pricey. Good specials though. Ruth, I am a big fan of headgear- but do not know the age or style of this really kind person at the doctors office. I would vote for the hotpad/potholder. The ones you make sound so nice and thick- really useful!!! To thicken my soup, unfortunately I use a roux- butter/flour combo....which will not work for those who cannot tolerate gluten. Yes DGD is a lot of fun to be with- although yesterday she gave me a run for the money. I tried to put her in for her second nap. After 10 minutes I knew that was not going to work as I heard her bouncing around the crib. WHen I checked on her she had thrown everything out of the crib (all her stuffed lovies) pointing at them when I walked in as if to say “how did that happen? ” What a character. Think my SIL is being released today. I think. Maybe. Lots of misinformation of lack of information coming from them. I did text my BIL and they still do not know what stage the cancer is in or what kind of cancer it is. Dh and I went to Walmart this am. I was supposed to go to the quilting shop this afternoon with my buddy but she got called into emergency babysitting duty by her son who put his back out. We will have to reschedule another day. BBL Ginny
