hi girls, waking up at 4 yesterday did not help me get stuff done.
think I WOKE UP ABOUT 5 THIS AM.
STARED on my mess in the basement late morning.Don came home and asked it I was going to the store with him today. so lunch at culver'. THEN THE STORE.
CAME OUT AND THERE WERE A FEW TINY FLURRIES COMING DOWN.THAT WAS IT.
HOME AND DOWN STAIRS AGAIN. THE OVER FLOOR ROOM(EX BEDROOM)TOOK THE LONGEST TO CLEAN.
THEN THE REGULAR SEWING ROOM.GOT DONE JUST BEFORE SUPPER.COURSE WAS GOING THROUGH STUFF AND PUTTING STUFF AWAY. KNOW THOSE SQUARE TOTES SCRAP BOOKER'S USE? I HAVE TWENTY OF THOSE. THAT DOES NOT INCLUDE A FEW I HAVE IN THE CLOSET UP HERE WITH OTHER STUFF.
NOT TO MENTION OBLONG ONES I HAVE WITH SCRAPS IN THEM . JUST TO MUCH STUFF.
I UNDERSTAND About a person wanting privacy. that was the way Don's sister was last year. it took months before she would tell us 2 fracture vertabres and high platelets.. her son finally told mona mom you have to tell them.
finally she wrote Theresa a letter. tom did say hi mom is very frail.course the nephew and niece aren't telling us anything. so our oru way to ky we did not stop in last year.
I AM going to write a letter and see if we can just stop in for about an hour.
Don has a right to see his sister.
what makes me mad their church people can/probably know and family can't?
she wants to go to the dgd wedding next year.(out o) tom said she won't be able to go.so if that is the case and they don t want us to stop there is something more going on. yes I get a suspicous/negative mind at times.
THERESA and I thin we my never see her again. phyl

thanks Phyl.
Regarding Donβs sister, well I guess each person handles their own illness differently. Some people like drama and attention, others would rather handle things quietly. I suppose in the case of your SIL maybe she finds it easier to tell friends to stay away than family, which is why she keeps family in the dark. But I completely agree with you that Don should be able to see her, assuming that they had a good enough relationship- which I figure that they do. And yes, I get suspicious and negative sometimes too....with my SIL its hard not to be that way- she is very self focused. Sounds like something for you to pray about and hope that Don is given the chance to see her. I am sure it will mean a lot to him. Hope I made some sense/ G

Phyl, I agree with you and with Ginny...Don should see his sister. Even if they act like they don't want you there you should try anyway. At least then you know you did your part. I know that your sil and Ginny's are both very sickand either the sick individual or family is trying to keep info quiet and maybe secret. My dh's sister is just the oppostite completly. She's clamined many times to have various kinds of cancer but she actully never had cancer at all. She broadcasts it to the world and I guess she forgets I am a retired nurse and that a lot of people in the groups she hangs around with are practicing nurses so we know that what she says is not true and she gets very mean and threatening when someone calls her on her lies. One of the reasons we moved 1800 miles away was to be away from all the drama...then along came facebook. I had to block her and change our account.
Ginny, your quilt top is beautiful!I also loved the rail post quilt that you used to have as your avatar...I think that's what it was called. You ladies are so talented. Yes I know there are patterns and directions and videos but a person has to have talent also and I know you do.
Phyl, it sounds like you have a large house and I know it feels good to have that work done. I don't know what the scrapbook totes are but it sure sounds like you have a lot of them.
My first potholder is done. I think this one would be more the hotpad to place things on out of the oven or quite large potholders because they're 9 inches square but look even larger. I also have one the same size that I had made before so I think I'm going to make a couple smaller ones to go with this large one. Being made in the thermal stitch seems to keep them from shrinking because I've made some with other patterns using the same yarn and also dishclothes and they shrunk quite a lot.
Have a good night's sleep everyone and see you tomorrow

good morning, Ruth no it is not a big house. built in 69.we moved in July of 70.
then the house was 1,008 square feet.
I had a small u shape kitchen .more like a one woman kitchen. then in 84 we added onto the kitchen now it is 1,184 squared feet.
the house cost a little less then 20,000.now we can get a lot more. back then they were not building big houses like now days. I think back then 50-70 thousand was for a bigger house.
our is a 3 bedroom ranch. garage is not attached.
back then they did not think about needing to make homes for people that might one day be handicapped.
November 11 TH they will come in to put the new shower in.I would be happier if I could get Don to get rid of the wall tile.he found the slip yesterday.he put the tile in 91. just can't convince him it is out dated.
backto cleaning. phyl

Yes it is sure a lot different nowdays in the way they build houses.Back then they saw no reason for more than one bathroom and they didn't feel that people needed closets the size of a very large room. They had the basics which was a functional kitchen, bathroom just large enought to take care of the call of nature and to wash hands and take a bath and the bathroom didn't have two sinks, no master bedroom "ensuite" No garden tub and no gigantic shower that six people could fit in. then a living room and minimal bedrooms.Maybe there was a dining room.People didn't buy six bedroom homes that had 8 bathrooms when all they had in the family were two or three people. Laundry area was the bare basement.no actual laundry room, The bedrooms were usually upstairs and you're right that they didn't make them handicap accessible. Mine was built in 1980 but it's pretty basic and not at all handicap friendly which is one reason we're planning on moving. One of the houses were were looking at online had the "50's" tile in the bathroom. Sure reminded me of my home growing up...same plastic tiles. Guess now they'd call that retro.
My dh is the same Phyl. He thinks a house should just be a house and doesn't care about any updating at all.We were watching HGTV the other day and he was constantly commenting on the people having to have the whole house "updated"...he kept yelling at them saying "the house is fine you don't need updates" or "it works why are you replacing it" And he was right actually because the houses that they were updating were already what I would consider very updated.Mostly today people buy just to impress others or just out of pure greed, envy and coveteousness
A highschool friend had 10 children. there was one bathroom. We had eight people in our family when I was growing up...one bathroom
We didn't buy a house until about 1984. It was an old one. Had what they describe on tv as a galley kitchen.Basically as you said a one person kitchen. I think it was built in the 1920's.

Hello Crafters I haven't been feeling well this week so I hope you'll forgive me for not responding individually but I did read and agree with what everyone is saying about family and medical issues Ginny - I did want to say your quilt is beautiful, that is going to be stunning when you have it finished I've had a slight headache/migraine every day this week, but my medication hasn't been helping much. I also feel some sinus pressure and today I had one ear a bit clogged, so it could be a sinus thing or maybe just migraines. Yesterday was a bit worse so I laid down for several hours in the afternoon and then felt better in the evening. Hopefully this will go away soon. The weather here is mild (70s) and we're supposed to have strong storms tonight. I don't like them at night since you can't see what is happening. After these storms go through it's going to get into the 50s for several days. Hope everyone can get some crafting done. Take care!

I can't complain to much about Don. he has keep the house and outside updated pretty good.something would happen to him there is no way I could keep up this house.
not like one of his brothers.a few years ago had to have new wiring put in.think they still had fuses.had to get rid of wood burning stove, something to do with the fireplace upstairs.something to do about burning wood and having it go up the chimmney through the fire place. so now they have propane and still burn wood in the newer wood stove.
the shower downstairs is an old metal shower put he just keeps painting then laughs when dsil and I call it the scuzzy's they should update the upstairs bathroom. dbil would not put in a shower because of plaster walls. Don would have helped him..
the br upstairs is mauve walls, what ever that plastic stuff they put on walls back then.before fiberglass.starts withe a m.don't want to poke a hole in it.
dsil has back issues. dbil has a light heart problem. they need to take out the tub. only thing in the tub is a basket for towels to take down stairs. tub.
kitchen walls could be updated .remember the old 70's paneling with palm trees/plants on it.she has that behind the stove and on a wall going downstairs.
we are not like our parents and grandparents keep everything the same till we die.
hgtv we can not understand buy a house for 100,00 or more then spend several thousand dollars to make it all the way you want, and they are so young.
a couple getting a run down house with good bones yet, cheap,we could see it.

Oh No ! Mid stream through a long post and poof! Its gone.
CJ- take good care of yourself. See a doctor if this does not clear up soon. I have heard of a nasty upper respiratory infection ( a neighbor has it) with a very bad cough. Take good care of yourself. I would bring over some soup it I could.......glad you got your errands done the other day so now you can stayi home and get better.
Phyl- you are so blessed with Don. (Think you will keep him after all these years?) I have the same situation with Dh, he does nothing inside the house.....but does a lot of home maintenance outside.
Ruth, what color is the potholder you are working on? That thermal stitch sounds so neat- is it difficult to do. (For you I am sure its a breeze, you are so good with a crochet hook).
Sue, stay warm.....hope you did not get any more snow.
Will stop in later on when I get done with email. Worked this am, then babysat all day- and now its Halloweeen so Dd#2 and her Dh came over for dinner. Busy day of cooking and babysitting.
NIght all Ginny

CJ,, yes you mentioned sinus pressure, could be a sinus infection and you may need antibiotics. I'm sorry to hear that you haven't been feeling well and sure hope you're ok soon
Phyl, yep I'd hold onto Don if I were you. I think I'll keep my dh too. He's the one that stays up all night making sure pipes don't freeze and the one that takes care of things that need fixing. He doesn't care much for working with electricity but he does it anyway if something electrical needs done but we mostly save those things for when ds visits if we can. He's excellent at working with electrical things. And I'm fortunate in that he will pitch in and do things inside too like vacuuming and cooking. Only thing he doesn't like to do is wash dishes and fold clothes
Ginny yes you had a busy day again and long too. I'm making the potholders in a variegated brown because I think it would go with almost any kitchen. Sorry about your post getting lost. I sure hate when that happens.
Sue I hope you're not too cold up there in Montana...we had extreme winds for two days...and nights straight. We very, very often have high winds but this was really bad. No one believes how much the wind blows here until they come out here and see it for themselves. There was a huge ground blizzard today

Good morning! Not so sound like an ungrateful monster (and remember my original post got lost last night)- Dh does a great job of maintaining the outside of our home....he is very good at home maintenance and can handle some difficult renovation projects too- has saved us a ton of money over the years. Yes, I am blessed.
Its 40 degrees cooler here than it was last night! Wow what a change. I much prefer this weather. But its very windy. Guess that system that brought high winds to Ruth has migrated here.
Decided to make a simple and easy quilted Bible cover for my quilting buddy/pastors wife. Looks like something I cannot maul.....now just have to find some pretty fabric that I think she will like. Somehow have to do this in my spare time.....along with working on BOM and making a tree skirt for Dd#3. Think with BOM I will get the sashing done, then move onto the Christmas projects.
Off for a short walk in this glorious cool weather. Ginny

Ginny, a quilted Bible cover sounds like a perfect gift!! You do have a lot of projects going right now and not much time to work on them. I do remember when you made the tree skirt for your other daughter and had her use it before it was completely finished because of the binding issue and maybe this year you may have to do that with your dd#2 skirt but I know it will get done and the gift for your friend too. They will both love their gifts. They are both truly gifts from the heart. I think it snowed again last night.Looks like more is on the ground to me but then it could be just from the ground blizzard we had. I'm glad you're enjoying your cooler weather, Ginny. I'm not all that thrilled with ours. I'm a summer person as you know since I seem to mention it all the time

We had another three inches of snow last night, but the temperature will be above freezing today and tomorrow. Feels like a heat wave! I told the lawn and snow guy not to come do the driveway this time. More snow is in the forecast on Sunday and Monday, but the days will be above freezing.
I'll probably do some grocery shopping tomorrow when the roads are completely clear. Yesterday I took a ski pole with me to safely navigate the driveway to get to quilting. Probably wasn't necessary, but I don't trust my ability to stay on my feet!
Last night I wound a scrumptious ball of yarn. 50% wool, 30% mohair 20% acrylic. It's variegated with browns, grays and teals. I'm looking for the right pattern for it. I have enough for hat, scarf or cowl and hand warmers. The yarn is part of my shipment from Ice Yarns.

Yes Sue, please do be careful. You don't want to fall and break something. your yarn sounds beautiful. I checked their site after you mentioned it. They do have fantastic yarn and good prices but I have way more yarn already than I need so will have to wait to try theirs
I'm on the third potholder of the set so I'm nearly done with that. After that I really need to get some other projects completed. I have so many that need finishing touches including those Viking hats that I intended to give my ds when he was here...so much for following my plan. You all may have noticed that I'm not good at sticking to plans. So now Im going to go and finish this last potholder.
