Well I think I found out what a swing bed is...a place where you can stay after they say you no longer need acute care but aren't able to return home yet...kinda like rehab?

hi, yeah Ruth I HAD TO LOOK UP swing beds also.first they showed regular porch like swings.
then I found them. one reminds me of a lift we used in hospitals and nursing homes.
when we would sit the patient up there would be like a canvas fabric under him/her. then we would put the hooks in the gaments and then turn something to lift the patient the chair and swing the patient back to the bed. usually took 2 aids to do it.
you probably know what I am talking about.
woke up at 2 for some reason. got up at 3.took a nap at 7. woke up and getting out of bed rotated my hips.one went back and one went forward.
good thing I already had my appointment made with dr. pilito.
yes the shower is in and I love it. still not use to the tub being gone.still want a soakie when I feel cold. phyl

Ok, I looked up swing bed- and the definition i saw was that it referred to how a bed was categorized within a medical facility, that it could “swing” from acute care to rehab or back. So it was a swing or change in classification. I could be very wrong however.
Ruth, glad you got the notes written to your family, Writing notes is a lost art- most are used to phone calls or emails, but not a hand written note. When my DSIL in Florida was very sick, I knew she could not take long phone calls (and we can talk!) and sitting at a computer would not work either. I wrote her several letters, knowing that she could read a sentence or two...put it down....and pick it up when she felt able to read more. Sounds like you got some crochetting time in too.
CJ- thanks for posting all those links! I saw one adorable mini quilt on the Pat Sloan site. I have to see what I can find that I can handle with my less advanced skills and my buddy will not be bored with.
Phyl, hope your hip is not too painful! Have you gotten used to be home yet? Your avatar is so cute.... a happyThanksgiving scene.
DGD was here all day and was very good, until right before DD came. Then DGD went into a big temper tantrum. Been a long time since I have had to deal with them, so I have some research to do to reacquaint myself with the best way to help a child through them. I have her 4 days next week...better get busy! No crafting for me - my crafting was texting about a quilt with my quilt buddy at church and looking at the sites that CJ left for me. Got 3 days off from babysitting...so I think Dh and I will enjoy that break. We love having the little ones here, but a day off is nice sometime also.
Hi to Sue.... did she ever get her orthotics?

No orthotics yet! The podiatrist makes them himself, something of a lost art! I was #22 on the list, but they'll be worth waiting for. In the meantime I have gotten an inexpensive pair that helps a little bit.
The TV in the living room went out. I though hb was going to lose his mind. I may have lost mine in the process. On Tuesday I called DIRECTV and spent just short of two hours talking to a technician whose first language was not English. Years of working with ESL students and speaking two other languages helps me a lot, but I was what? While going from one tv to the other and up and down the stairs, trying to read numbers while standing on my head, plugging and unplugging cords, off, on. She finally let me talk to a supervisor who went through some of the same things before approving a technician!
I was more than a little tired. At bedtime I let out the woofers, and two of them treed the raccoon again. I had to carry one dog inside. The other I couldn't get to. An hour later I finally propped open the door to the screened deck and put a dog bed and a blanket there. Zzzzzzzz! I let her in at five, but I have no idea when she came upstairs.
The DIRECTV technician was here Wednesday afternoon. He works in this area but lives in Idaho. He identified the problem. It was the TV, but he was able to hook it up to the receiver in a different way. hb is happy and can nap again.
I ran away from home and went to quilting this morning. Feeling much better!
Tomorrow I have the follow up appointment with the oculoplastic surgeon. One of the chalazion (plugged tear duct) is still there, but it is almost invisible, and my variable vision has stabilized. I've made an appointment with my optometrist to get my glasses situation straightened out.
Progress! Sures seems slow sometimes!

Sue, well progress might be slow, but you are making it. Originally you had mentioned that your podiatrist made his own orthotics- its good to hear that the over the counter ones are offering some relief. We used to have Direct TV- and I think we all can relate to the phone technician whose first language is not english. I try hard to repeat the information back to them so they know I comprehended (and any mistakes can be corrected). But it sure does make for a long conversation, especially if the subject is somewhat technical in nature. Agreed, how tough it is to see all those wire connections, reboot this system- reconnect that....wait for the receiver to find the satellite and hopefully solve the problem. Glad your TV issues were solved however. So you snuck out to quilting group?! Ha ha ha. A much needed mental health check for you and some time away. How is your pretty scarf coming out? That is good news to hear that your vision has stabilized and that the chalazion has almost completely resolved. BTW, we solved our Direct TV problems by changing to another cable company.
Slept well last night. Hoping for a sane day today....and to start on the layout for the Christmas tree skirt. Ginny

Mostly when I've called Directv I'll always had someone that actually speaks English so I've been fortunate that way. Since I can't hear very well on the phone I can hear even less when they have a thick accent. I'm going to be cancelling Direct tv soon though anyway. Hate having to pack up and return the equipment though. There is no location near here to do that so we have to take it to a UPS or Fed Ex store which are both on the other side of town. So, Sue, I feel your pain.
Phyl, I also had to get a new phone for Tracfone. I had till the end of the year but I got one back in May. Still haven't really figured out how to use the silly thing.I finally found out at least how to answer it...I think. I better get used to it because I'll have to use it while we're on our trip.I also figured out how to send texts... with the flipphones I had no problem learning how to use all their functions but this think has me stumped. I have to look up online how to do things when I need to.My son helped some while he was here so I do now know how to find out if a place has wifi.
Going out to do errands today so I have to get ready soon. See you all later.

Back home from errands and am tired.
Phyl, I got a Samsung but mine was a refurbished one. My son is a computer expert and knows a lot about phones and he says he always buys his kids refurbished computers and they work great. (they're homeschooled so need computers to do their work) He knows a lot about phones too and said refurbished phones, too, work just as well and for just as long as brand new and maybe better because any issues they had when new have been taken care of.
Now I have to call my home delivery pharmacy and they have no one that speaks English well. It's frustrating trying to hear and understand them.

Hello Crafters Phyl - I'm glad your shower is done, hope you enjoy using it. Your life is so busy, I can't imagine going all the time like you do but I'm glad you are able to Sue - Hope your appointment went well and I'm glad you were able to get the TV working. Ruth - Hope you can get some rest this evening and good luck with calling the pharmacy. It's really terrible that these companies are able to have their workers overseas instead of in the US - just my opinion, so I share your frustration with speaking with them. Ginny - Hope you were able to start on the tree skirt, that's going to be a nice gift. www.tuning-my-heart.com/free-patterns1.html - Here's another site with some free BOM patterns. The Just Desserts one is so cute the way she has named all the block with a dessert I went out again today to run more errands - bank, post office, car payment, Christmas flowers for the cemetery, etc. By the time I got home I was tired again - mostly from all the traffic - there is just so much of it. And then driving to all the places and back takes a bit. When I was driving home I said to myself my dream would be to have a nice small house with all the amenities on a large piece of land so I could be away from all the people and noise. I'd have a bunch of generators so I didn't have to worry about electricity and an electric fence around the place to keep out robbers Guess I better win the lottery otherwise there is not way that's happening. It was a beautiful sunset today, I love the ones in fall and winter the best. Today was milder with temps in the 50s, but supposed to be cold again tomorrow. Take care everyone!

Ruth, sorry that your errands ran you down so much. Sometimes all that back and forth in the car and in and out of stores/businesses really takes an effort. Even more if its really hot or really cold. Best of luck with the home pharmacy, its so frustrating and such a challenge when english is not clear. And if you are dealing with technical information, like pharmaceuticals, its even worse. Cannot add to the phone conversation. Dh and I will have to get new phones soon, think apple will no longer support our phones much longer..
Phyl, sounds like you had a busy day. Glad you got your flu shot- and will be protected in a few weeks. How many mug rugs are you making?? Are you making them as a gift??
Had a hard time walking away from the MSQ deal of the day. I love that fabric line, and well, its just so pretty. But I have other projects to work on here and will finish them up first. And fabric I need to use up too!!! Got started on the layout of DD’s Christmas tree skirt. Gotta cut a few more squares as I want to change the fabrics a bit for a nice distribution of color. Ginny

Hey CJ! thanks again for the link for free BOM patterns. This one is adorable, and I too love that she named each block after a dessert. What a sweet idea. I have no idea what you have in regards to a budget.....but have you ever had a market analysis on your present home to see what you could actually net? Think it might work out well for you, and is empowering. Like you, I live in an expensive area and the dream of a large piece of property for a small home is probably not in the cards. All I know is that knowing what your options are a good thing and might make you feel a bit better. And yes, errands sure are tiring!!!! Lovely that you enjoyed the sunset and sunrise......we live in a beautiful world. Ginny

Well Phyl, Glad you got your blood work done.. You have a good medical team if they do place those calls with both the good news on the A1C and the not so good news on the platelets. I know little about that (know about the A1C)-but we know you will follow orders and do what you have to do to get blood levels better. I will pray for you that you can get things under control.... Do you still attend Weight watchers??? Were you able to get all your phone issues settled with the help of this gentleman? It makes all the difference when you are served by someone who is knowledgeable and cares.
Had to cut a few more squares for the tree skirt. Think we are going out today with Dd#2 to hit a big sale at Kohl’s and so I can use my Kohl’s cash. BBL Ginny

Phyl, I'm sorry to hear that your platelets are up so much. I would think they would up your med but who knows... maybe they'll just watch for awhile and see how it goes. Yes your doctor may want you to get your A1c lower. Losing weight is not easy. The diabetic educators tell you to eat healthier add more veggies but then the "good stuff" calls us and we're off the track. I really need to start doing that though, too, because I have to take a med that causes weight gain. Got rid of all my "big clothes" so can't afford to gain so I'll have to eat right and exercise more. You can do it Phyl. On the other hand we need to enjoy life too and a big part of our enjoyment is enjoying food.
Yesterday was such a beautiful day. It was over 60 I'm sure and nice and sunny with just a little wind. Woke this morning to cold temps and it was raining, overcast and gloomy, and is now snowing. Guess I'd better get used to dark and gloomy days with rain because in Indiana there are many days like that.
I need to get myself motivated so that I'm not rushing at the last minute trying to get things done... I need to do them now.

Good evening, Ruth, I would guess that packing one box or one small area a day would leave you in a good position to make this transition. Yes it sure would be nice if you did not have to rush at the end. I had no idea that the climate in Indiana was was dark and gloomy....I know there are areas like that. I guess you will have to adapt to living in 2 different climates. Perhaps you will like the change- and being able to avoid the really cold winter where you are now. And I am sure it will be a blessing to be closer to Ds and his family.
Yeah I gotta get back on program....been doing some reading to see if I can inspire myself. Got to Hobby lobby today and did get new fabric for the Bible cover. Both Dd and I really like what we ended up getting Take care all Ginny
