Ruth, if it’s silver plate, it will be indicated in tiny letters.....as it will also be indicated if its sterling. Worst case scenario, query on the internet the pattern ( on the back of a fork or spoon the manufacturer should be listed) and possible pattern. There is a web site “replacements.com”- i think- that carries all kinds of pieces of silver and china- but is helpful in determining what you have (silver plate vs silver). If its silver plate us the haggertys, and get those anti tarnish strips and you will never have to polish again. You are making good progress- getting 4 ear warmers done! Hope that you can get your errands done in a timely manner- as CJ mentioned, its going to get crazy out there as Thanksgiving approaches.
CJ- a day of less than perfect weather is a blessing sometimes....helps us appreciate the prettier days, but also encourages staying in and getting inside stuff done. I like a good rainy day from time to time also- for the same reason. those yo-yo’s are adorable. My mom once did a pillow that had many of them all over the front. It matched the bedspread and curtains and was very pretty. I have not idea how to make them though!
Ok so we babysat today again....and I took the kids back to their house at the end of the day. Then Dd (their mom) had to go back into work, so I stayed at their house awhile.....Dd#2 and I watched them for a bit. Got my hair done and then made the mistake of going to Walmart. They were pretty much wiped out of a lot of things that I wanted- so I am stuck going to the local food store in the next day or so. Very frustrating. During the kids naps I did get some work done on the Christmas tree skirt....think 6 rows are now sewn into place. 3 more to go. Night all Ginny

Phyl, I think that is such a sweet and kind idea to make the table mat for each of your dear friends! So very caring of you. Hope you can sleep well tonight and that your outing today wore you out enough so you can fall asleep easily. Ginny

I'll have to dig the silverware out tomorrow and see what it says. Thank you, Ginny, for the explanation and instructions.Next time I go out I'm going to buy some of that silver polish. I remembered that I have some silverware also that I bought at a garage sale many years ago. it's horribly tarnished so I can use that polish for that too. I can't imagine why someone would sell silver at a garage sale and I'm sure they didn't charge much because I'm a cheapskate and never paid much for anything at any garage sale. I'd expect to find that those are silver plate. I think the brand of my mother's silverware is Rogers Brothers but it still can be either mostly silver or silver plate.
Phyl, yes that is so very nice of you to make those table mats for your friends. dh just assigned me a task so will bbl

GOOD EVENING, GINNY the pattern and template are on the way. hope the machine does not do anything to the wood template. you don't want to use the wood you can always make a template from it using the plastic template stuff..
it is in a bubble envelope.haven't sent anything this cheap in along time.could not believe it when he said only 3.85. think I almost fell on the floor.
Hit the post office at the right time one person ahead of me and no one in back of me.
Larry was the man helping me. I said you have been here a lot of years.he said 27. 11 more Fridays and I will be retired. you will probably hear me shouting from outside.I told him congratulations.
knowing the government he probably can use sick or vacation days and not have to work all 11 Fridays.
this am was the chiro, the p.o, dropped 3 bags off at goodwill. aldi's and walmart.
do any of you have a speedy deliverly?? we have one at the airport. my quilting friend said she found out to send something they are cheaper then the p.o. only open certain hours . phyl

Phyl, that sure is a good day at the post office when you only have to pay under $4! I think the last time I was able to pay that little was when I sent my brother a baseball type hat. He collects them. Normally it's always over $20...if I'm lucky. The postage is usually more than the value of the things inside. I've never heard of Speedy Delivery.. It sounds like a good option for mailing things. I know that if you can print out your own postage online you save some but I don't have a printer so can't do that. Sounds like you had a very busy day.
It's a cold day here but the sun finally came out but from the clouds I see, I think the sun is going to be gone again soon. I didn't go out to do the errands today. For one thing I didn't have the info I needed to take care of the one thing and it was too cold and too much snow anyway. If I get my info I'll go tomorrow and if not will probably go grocery shopping tomorrow and take care of other errands on Monday. I'm sitting here crocheting and have a nice fire that dh made in the woodstove. Got some laundry done and have a pot of chicken soup simmering.Hello to Ginny, CJ, and Sue also. I hope all of you are having a good dayand evening

Good evening! Phyl, thanks so much for sending the pattern. That sure is cheap postage,I am glad you did not pass out from the shock! I would not want you to get hurt on account of me.
Ruth, I will Check our Rogers brothers on replacements.com. They have pictures of each pattern and you can find out the Approximate value.
Sorry for being so short, I am so bad at responding using my phone. Got the corners and binding cut for the tree skirt. Ginny

www.youtube.com/watch?v=2XcxHQc1lyc&t=148sThis is the link for the Christmas tree skirt I am making for DD#2. Its pretty easy and comes out well. Ruth, don’t you love the even heat of a wood burner? I checked out Rogers Brothers on replacements.com- there are many different patterns listed there. Hope your chicken soup came out well. Phyl we do not have a speedy delivery here. I wonder if they are a national chain or not. Again, thanks so much for the pattern!!! I am looking forward to getting my hands on it. Seems you are also in the cleaning out the junk mode....getting rid of clothes at good will. I have a bag of stuff ready to drop at the donation box at church. Cut the border for the tree skirt and trimmed the corners. Now have to see if I can fudge the backing without having to go out for more fabric. I can order online from Hobby Lobby....found some fabric that is on sale, so if I have to I can get it through them. Hi to CJ and Sue. BBL Ginny

Hello Crafters - Hope you are all doing well today Ginny - thanks for sharing the link to the tutorial - it's really a nice project - what type of fabrics/colors are you using? Hope you can find the fabric you need. Ruth - Glad you are enjoying your woodstove and I hope you can get your errands and shopping done. Phyl - I have a lot of family who used to work for the post office, they sure had lots of "stories" to tell I'm glad you had a good experience there. Sue - Hope the weather is nice there and you are crafting. I ran some errands yesterday and did some grocery shopping. Now I won't need to go next week unless I want to. I've found the week of Thanksgiving is just crazy in the grocery stores around here. It's like there will never be food stocked again! I have several things that happen on Fridays - the MSQC tutorial of the week, a website where pictures of Scotland are posted and I love to watch Steve Hartman on the CBS evening news. I thought you might like to see the MSQC tutorial this week. The quilt at the beginning is just beautiful. I'd love to make something like that but it's a lot of work. The quilt for the tutorial is beautiful too and much easier: www.youtube.com/watch?v=AKzXamJezREHave a great day!

Ginny, I love the tree skirt! Did you get the charm packs or use other fabric? There was another question I was going to ask too but now I forgot because seeing all the available videos at the side of the page I had to view some of them. I especially like the hanging towel one that you make with a towel and potholder. I remember you telling us about that one a couple years ago. I actually bought the towel and potholder to make them but never got them made. I might actually have to experiment and try making that tree skirt sometime...Yep more plans that I may never get to. CJ I went to the site you posted too and long that quilt also. It's a little beyond my capabilities but I do love it. I'm glad you got errands done so you don't have to go out next week. Unfortunately I didn't get the info I needed to take care of my errands so will have to go our Monday early to get that done. Crafting today was finishing a hat I started yesterday which may be for my dh depending on if he likes the colors and how they turned out when made into something. I used Lion Ferris Wheel which on the package says it's a #4 yarn but it's very thin and looks more like a 3. People in the crochet groups have posted items made from it and they always refer to it as a #3 so I'm not sure what it really is but it does take a lot more stitches and rows to get a hat made than if it was a 4 and it also makes a thin hat...not warm enough for cold weather outdoors. Then I started on a earwarmer...it's the twist one in two colors which I had to try because I saw one posted made in 2 colors and when you do the twist those colors really form a really nice look. I'm going to go finish up the earwarmer now then work on some finishing work. I also need to figure out what yarns I want to take with me for the 3-4 month stay and patterns to go with them and make one of my infamous lists See you all later

Yes, I can see myself making that Milestones quilt that CJ left the pattern for. It does look involved, but easy in that there are no hard shapes and its all following he same pattern for each block. Just what I need, another project!
The tree skirt is traditional dark red and green. It has a dark green border....I like it a lot, and the fabrics are a combination of a Christmas pack I bought last year (4 fabrics, 1/4 yd each) and some fabrics I had here. Right now the border is attached, and I have attached the batting using basting spray.I want this done by the end of the week. I think I will have to trim it a bit to fit the backing fabric. That is for another day....
Ruth, glad you got the hat done- I am curious to see if Dh likes it or not! Isn’t if funny how yarn companies can pretty much do as they want and there is little quality control. The same holds true for fabrics, some are wider than others....and that is a challenge.
Now, regarding the towel . Think this project works best with dollar store type potholders and towels. Fold the towel in half lengthwise.- mark the middle. The potholder should be a rectangle with a loop (to hang the potholder). Fold the potholder in half too. Center the potholder (which is folded) over the fold on the towel. Stitch along the fold line, perhaps 2 rows of stitching would be best .Sew a button on the outside of the potholder so that it can be used to button the potholder closed a around the handle of your stove. Hope I explained that ok.
Long day and I am tired. See ya’all tomorrow GInny

45 today and snow forecast for tomorrow!
The Bohemian waxwings have been very entertaining this week. They're arriving in a flock of more than 100. After a few days of devouring berries on the tallish juniper in front of the bay window, they spent an afternoon cleaning up the Canada red cherries out back. This morning they were back at the juniper. There is a crabapple tree in the front, but they've scarcely touched it so far.
Yesterday I sent hb with his caregiver to get his flu shot and pick up a prescription. J said hb asked where the were going when they were part way there. The rate of decline is accelerate.
No quilting this week. I don't know what I'm going to cook, but it won't be turkey. On Monday after my appointment with the chiropractor, I'll do some grocery shopping. I will cook a turkey sometime in the near future because I like it. hb doesn't. Anything he doesn't like he is now complaining that he can't chew it because it's too tough or too something. Sometime in the near future I'm going to start making some blender meals.
Our museum has a show in the the planetarium called Season of Lights. That might be something good to go see again. With so many hours of darkness, lights are a real pleasure. It's only another month until the winter solstice! Several of the neighbors already have lights up.

Hey Sue, that Season of lights presentation sounds wonderful- definitely something to cheer the viewer up and entertain. I hope that you go! So sad that your Dh is declining....for you its a blessing that you have a good caregiver to help. I will bet that quilting group was not well attended this past week with a holiday right around the corner. The way I see it, it you wanted to eat cornflakes for Thanksgiving dinner that would be fine! Its about being thankful, and surely not the food.
Made good progress on the tree skirt. Ginny

Hello everyone, I have been taking a long break but hopefully I can get back in action. I didn't do any crafting all summer and I had 2 afghans that I started months ago. One was for DD so I did manage to finish it for her b/day in Oct. The other one I am going to keep for myself. It is almost finished and I am starting to get more interested again. I have been watching more movies mostly on the Hallmark channel.
I just have been very lazy but I will try and check in more often. I am happy to see you all still here and I will catch up with all your news and crafting projects.

Meg, we're so glad to have you back. You sure were missed. I'm glad you got back to your crafting. I think of you often while I'm crocheting then suddenly think that I should be listening to an audiobook while doing it. You've mentioned doing that. The only crafting I got to today so far is cleaning up one of the areas that I sit and crochet in. It still doesn't look all that great but it's better than it was. Of course my other areas are a mess also. I have a lot of completed items and nearly completed ones sitting on my bed right now. If I don't get it cleared off there won't be much room for me to sleep but I'm going to make a couple of the twisht earwarmers first. Oh and I did craft some split pea soup See you all tomorrow.
