We had a few inches of snow last night, and the view out the window is beautiful. There will be a few more inches tomorrow and Saturday, but for some reason we're getting less snow than other areas. Interesting to watch and to ponder. Weather is so variable!
A few weeks ago I found some wonderful new fleece throws for use in the living room. They're claret and a claret and white pattern. Good for keeping toes warm, snuggling and hibernating! The woofers are warm and cuddly, too. The house is warm, but my toes still feel cold.
Enjoy those fleece throws Sue! They sound so cozy and warm. Don’t you love hibernation weather?? Good news that you got less snow than expected. Less to worry about and clean up. Hope you have a nice day. G
But as for me, it is good for me to draw near to God: I have made the Lord God my refuge and place my trust in him, That I may tell of all your works. Psalm 73:28
Ginny, that is a beautiful message you posted this morning. I, too, feel blessed that I met all of you and I thank both God and Meg for that. You all have added joy to my life. I'm thankful for so many things. Even when we have negative things in our lives we still all have positives things also. Sometimes it's hard to see the blessings in some situations but if we look harder we usually find there are some after all. And ,Ginny, you have a whole new wonderful blessing to be thankful for...congrats on the new grandbaby!
We're not doing anything today. Dh is down on his computer probably looking up fishing regulations in Indiana and I just cleaned up the kitchen and made mashed potatoes. I make them with cream cheese (which those that dislike cream cheese cannot even tell it's in there) and it's amazing how that cream cheese makes the mashed potatoes taste wonderful even when reheated and the texture doesn't get strange like it does if you reheat mashed tatos that don't have the cream cheese. Otherwise It's leftover pork from yesterday. I also baked some sweet potatoes yesterday and have leftovers.I plan to do a lot more crocheting today as I got very little done last night
John 14:27Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.
Ruth and Phyl, thanks for your Thanksgiving messages...indeed, living in this wonderful nation- flaws and all- is so important! Isn’t this why our great nation was founded? So we could worship as we wanted to and be thankful? (And pick out good places to fish in Indiana- and yes that is a blessing!!!).
Phyl-bet it was nice having a day off from cooking “the big meal”. Even if your home cooked food is better, still a nice thing that you had that choice. Glad you enjoyed your day.
Ruth, your Dh sounds a bit like mine....oh yes, its important knowing all the fishing regulations where you are going to live! (Good thing there are no laws or regulations on hooking yarn, however!) I am very sure your mashed potatoes are wonderful, perhaps I will try that some day. Do you use cream cheese in the place of butter? And you too (and all of you on the thread!( have added joy to my life too. Thanks.
Sue, CJ and Meg, looking forward to hearing from each of you when you get a chance...
Yesterday was nutty and I did not sit much. Its a big meal to put out, Dd did a great job but still with 3 little kids and one on the way she was a bit tired. Glad I was there to help her. My SIL stayed home as did her daughter. Neither was feeling well, SIL due to a normal reaction to chemo, and my niece had a cold. BIL and their son stopped in. Guess it was good for them to escape to a more normal existence for a short while. Going through chemo is no picnic for sure. Got absolutely no crafting done yesterday. Dd#2 is coming over tomorrow to do laundry. Hope I can finish the tree skirt today for her. Its going to take a lot of work to get it done....but I will try.
Take care all Ginny
But as for me, it is good for me to draw near to God: I have made the Lord God my refuge and place my trust in him, That I may tell of all your works. Psalm 73:28
Good morning all. Happy day after Thanksgiving. Is anyone going out shopping today. Unless there's a medical emergency I wouldn't go out no matter what. Too many people and it's snowing like crazy. Six inches are expected.
I'm going to stay inside where it's nice and warm and later have a cup of wonderful tea that is friendly to my bladder besides being delicious. And of course crocheting and reading. I might even do a bit of cleaning
Ginny, I hope you're able to get time to finish the tree skirt. your dd is going to love it. It sounds like you had a lot of great food yesterday.
I hope everyone else is also having a wonderful day and you can do some things you love to do.
John 14:27Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.
Ruth, sounds like you are having a wonderful day...some crocheting, some reading, probably a nice fire and a good cup of tea. Like you, I have some herbal teas that I rely on during the day to keep me drinking something how and yummy but will not upset my stomach. To me, it sounds like a good day not to clean! Why ruin a good snow storm with cleaning? Ha ha ha.... Glad you are staying inside where its warm and all the loonies cannot bother you. Yes, its a tough day to go out. What are you working on, did you finish the hat for Dh and the fingerless gloves for yourself?
Got a nice walk in today, stopped at CVS to get some Vicks- for some reason I cannot find mine and I have a bit of a cold. I find it comforting....nice and cool here, no snow yet. They say that is coming on Sunday. Yes I did get some work done on the tree skirt. My machine gave me a ton of headaches and was jamming....but after changing thread, bobbins and retreading several times I changed the needle. That solved the problem. Think I have about a third of the quilting done. Hope to work on it more tonight.
Knowing each of you ....I bet none of us went out today. Good day to stay home, stay safe and let the loonies have fun in the stores. Ginny
But as for me, it is good for me to draw near to God: I have made the Lord God my refuge and place my trust in him, That I may tell of all your works. Psalm 73:28
I bet Phyl went out. She's braver than me for sure.
I like Vicks too but haven't had a cold in years so no need for it. I bet, though, once I'm around kids I'll be catching some colds.
Ginny, I did get the hat made for dh and he loves it. He's barely had it off his head and even wore it out the other day.Since all his hair is on his face he needs to keep the top of his head covered. I almost finished the fingerless gloves..just need to do the weaving in. I did an earwarmer this morning and am about to start another and when I went to look up the video for a refresher on the stitch a thought came to me that you should use this star stitch for your new baby blanket. It's nice for boy or girl. The stitch looks complicated but it's really not at all and it's a fun stitch. A man who calls himself Mikey is the one that does the video on Crochet Crowd (Yarnspirations) site and he uses very thick yarn and a very large hook so that it's easy to follow him. It's definitely not mindless crocheting though because you do have to look at the yarn while crocheting to make sure you're getting into the stitches but, also, if you put one in the wrong place in the star it still turns out ok. and there are no holes left in it for baby to get fingers stuck in.
And thank you for the encouragement and support on avoiding cleaning on a day that's just so good for sitting and crafting or reading along with that great cup of tea.
I'm looking forward to seeing the others stop in.It would be great to see Meg again.
John 14:27Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.
Good morning, thanks for the heads up Ruth on that crochet pattern. Will have to go to that web site to find the pattern....I will say I am going to have a hard time doing better than I did for the afghan for DGD#2, that is the pattern I shared with you. That pattern, while not mindless, is also easy....and looks amazing. Anyway, will go check out Yarnspirations and see what I find there. I do love how your Dh loves what you make for him!! Gotta keep that head warm! (My dh is also a little scarce on hair on the top of his head).
Slept poorly last night. See ya all later Ginny
But as for me, it is good for me to draw near to God: I have made the Lord God my refuge and place my trust in him, That I may tell of all your works. Psalm 73:28
After doing that pattern I'm not sure I'd want a blanket made with it. The star stitch is nice and fun to do but I think it could get a little dense and heavy.
Lots of snow on the ground here. We'll be hibernating for sure
Brought more yarn down to the "winter quarters" to use for more of the earwarmers. I'm going to take a bunch of them to dd's house on Christmas and let the girls pick the ones they want.they'll also get the v scarves I made for them.
Ginny, I hope you have a good day visiting with your dd who you said is coming over today to do her laundry.
John 14:27Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.
I'm just back inside after a little pushing of snow off the back deck. In a while I may go make a short trail for the dogs in the backyard. An inch here and an inch there added up to a foot or more. The high today will be 20, so the snow is light and fluffy.
Sorry that you didn't sleep well, Ginny. After a few nights of little sleep, I slept very well last night. The inconsistency can be bothersome, but I feel much better this morning.
The sky is blue, and the view out the bay window is beautiful.
Inside the temperature and hb is sleeping to the sound of MASH.
Sue, sounds like you are in a winter wonderland!!!! Good to hear that you slept so well last night. And that Hb is sleeping well to the sound of MASH. Enjoy your beautiful view.
Ruth, welcome back to the winter headquarters. Bet that is a neat transition... Hope that your family loves all the homemade gifts you bring to them- plus they get their pick of color! Happy hibernation time to you too. Were you able to enjoy any tea today?
Speaking of tea, I have to order some of my favorite herbal stuff. Cannot get it in the store. Enjoyed the day with Dd.
But as for me, it is good for me to draw near to God: I have made the Lord God my refuge and place my trust in him, That I may tell of all your works. Psalm 73:28
ho,ho,ho ,RUTH are you kidding??? I am not that BRAVE or NUTS! no I have not gone out on black Friday in years.not any fun anymore .people can get very rude now days about shopping.
use to be fun when Bev and I would go and we bought for the kids.DON'T have any little ones to buy for.
now that they start it in the evening I don't do much night driving anymore..
our high light at the end of the day was going to perkins and have their banana cream pie.
we have been looking at washers. our neptune maytag is going out.it is 17 years old. pretty long life for that brand
they are making the front door loaders lower now. won't work for me. then it would mean buying the pedstal and that would be 269 dollars for each washer and dryer..
that set is out. it would cover our breaker box.
so now will it be a top loader, agaiator or not?? won't do anything till we com back.
time to decorate my bay window for christmas. phyl
time to decorate my bay window. phyl
personal challenge is: get to the y more often. like 4-5 days a week.
DD#1 came over with the little ones today also. I had picked up a gingerbread house kit, which DGD#1 and DGS and I made. We had a lot of fun....DGD#2 was too busy running around being a 20 month old to notice. Fun day.
And.....well I tried this am to sew and my machine died. I took it apart as best I could- followed the directions on the singer site- and cleaned it (it needed cleaning) and it appears as though the timing is off . The needle will not draw up the bobbin thread. Took the machine to the small LQS in town - her husband does repairs. So he will take a look at it for me. Sweet lady that she is, she loaned me a nice Husqvarna to use while mine is being worked on. (She knew I had a project going as I was in there the other day to buy thread). So it seemed a bit dire....but now all is well and I can finish my projects.
Cold tonight and snow on the way. Ginny
