Then again, a lot more members might qualify for lifetime status and WW is having enough trouble with its financials without adding more non-paying members! In the days when the 2# rule was established, I doubt there were any products at all sold in meetings. And there was no Internet, so no eTools. if the over/under 2# was enforced then, the only downside I see WW could have suffered was LT members staying away for some # of months to avoid paying weekly meeting fees—after all, no matter how many meetings LT members miss, they never pay more than the current weekly fee when they return—no new registration fee. Nowadays, however, WW sells products in meetings. And they sell eTools at a monthly fee. If they enforced the 2# rule for those below goal they would risk angering the masses and an even bigger exodus than they suffered over the rebranding and meeting restructuring mess. I agree that being within 2# of the goal range would be far more reasonable. And I suppose, more or less, this IS what they do now.

If I remember back to the days when I still worked for WW we didn't enforce a 2 pound under rule, but if a member started dropping too far below goal the leader was supposed to counsel them. And if they dropped to a certain point below, they could be dropped as a member if they didn't get a doctor's note. I don't remember that ever happening while I was working. One friend in my meeting got threatened and had to get a doctor’s note. She had gotten notes several times, and the doctor told her when she got the note that it would be the last—he felt she was way too thin. Now she struggle to stay 2# below her goal weight. She also told me that she had had that battle with WW ever since she joined and reached goal. The solution she finally hit on was to carry a few rolls of quarters in her pockets at weigh-in when she new she was going to be given trouble. Sounds like someone had or has the makings of an eating disorder. It sometimes surprises me how people can go from obese to way too thin but then again it doesn't. The same obsession with overeating can probably transfer itself to a new obsession of not eating much. I saw it with my MiL who spent 50+ years of her life obese and then when she made lifetime at WW she would eat a peach and yogurt for lunch and practically nothing else. She started taking pride in how much she wasn't eating. But putting rolls of quarters in ones pocket to mask an unhealthy weight sounds like something an anorexic person would do. Over the top.

Over the top. I totally agree. And at one time I said pretty much that. I think, however, that since she’s hit 80 she has figured that the aging process has pretty much made it impossible for her to maintain the extremely low weights she insisted on maintaining previously.

I remember when I called goal it was hard to give up losing weight but I was concerned about how low I would go. I spent years feeling hopeless and helpless about doing something about being obese and here I had developed this power over my weight. I didn't want to give it up. I also knew (or have set myself up to think) that I couldn't get in that control of my weight again. I have been struggling a bit but have gotten a little more control lately. I'm wondering what I will do if I do creep up to the two pounds over limit. Can I get myself back down? Or, will I consider changing my goal weight? I don't want to change my goal weight although I have some room to do it. For one reason I don't want to gain so much weight I have to go out and buy new clothes (I'm a bit shopping phobic also it would be a hassle). Plus if I'm gaining moving my goal doesn't solve the problem. I hope I can dig in and get back down when needed. I know I would whine about it a lot.

Oh I didn't realize she was already 80 years old. In any case, hope she is in good health.

Oh my god! That would have made all the difference for me! I went back when the girls were 8 weeks old and was so discouraged each week having to pay. In the end, I quit WW and was more successful on my own because somehow back then even points plus was just not working. I was maintaining even while staying within my losing points and feeling so defeated and dejected at each and every weigh in. Hormones getting back in sync was probably the culprit but if I'd not had to pay and would have 6 months to figure it out they'd not have lost me as a member.

^ Exactly! It is really good marketing on their behalf.

It's huge! Major missed opportunity for them.
