Good morning all and Happy Monday! Its a winter wonderland out there for us, and thankfully we still have our power. One tree in the back has a large branch snapped, I wonder if that is the branch that has the second bird feeder on it that I repaired yesterday. Guess we are supposed to get another 3 to 5 inches of snow today. Ds stayed near work last night but will be trying to come home this evening after his day shift. Got 80 % of the quilting done. And Hope to finish the rest today. I also want to put up our tree today. And Back to sewing will check out the few accessories the shop owner gave me, perhaps she did sneak in the regular foot.
Now how many people use the phrase “slow as molasses”. (Think the snowflakes even know what molasses is?). Sorry that the video you endured last night was so painful to watch, Ruth. Give up on that stitch or find one that you do like. I give you a ton of credit for taking on so many new stitches.

One of the phrases my father used to use is "slow as molasses in January" My dh's grandmother had many phrases...some with very "colorful" words in them. Ginny, hope you get the tree skirt done and also find the regular foot. I bet it's in there with the acessories.Hopefully with more snow coming your schools will be closed again tomorrow and you'll have another day off from baby sitting. Yes I will give up on that stitch for now. There are so many really nice ones that I do know how to do but I'm a stubborn person and don't like to give up. I don't have time for that right now though. there's so much to be done and so much I want to do that isn't absolutely needed but wanted...by me only I'm sure glad we took care of the banking on Wed. I don't think we'll be able to get out at all this week because of ,,not snow falling, but snow the wind blew into our subdivision and especially right on my part of the area. Snowplows have made enormous hills of snow and of course where they plowed along the street made big hills at the end of our driveway. So I'll get started on some of those things and see you all later. I hope everyone has a good week

Our snow was light and fluffy and very prone to blowing and redistributing itself. Today most of the sky is blue, and the temperature is 40. V
In spite of taking things easy and hibernating for a few days, I managed to catch my first cold in years. It's a doozy! This morning I set my alarm, not so I could go anywhere but rather so I could call and cancel appointments for today as well as the rest of the week.

Hello Crafters Sue - I'm glad you had the light and fluffy snow. I like that snow much better than the wet snow, but you are right that it does blow around more. I'm sure it's really pretty there with the blue skies and snow on the ground. Phyl - I'm so sorry to hear about your DSIL. It's really tough when family are ill and we aren't close by. I will hope that the medication helps her some and that she isn't in pain. I've had to visit many family members who were ill knowing it might be the last time I saw them, it's really tough so I feel for you. Ruth - I'm glad you got your banking done last week, since it sounds like you are stuck in the house. Hope you can work on your crochet projects. Ginny - I'm glad you have been able to finish most of your quilting and I hope they can repair your machine soon. I hope you don't have any serious problems with the snow, it looks like you will be getting a lot and it's a wet snow, isn't it? I'm glad you won't have to go out. I love molasses in foods, and I've said "slow as molasses" too I just bought some Molasses Crinkle cookies in the store - made by Lofthouse Cookies and they are very good. It's been cold and rainy here for the last few days, but fortunately no snow or ice. I'm actually working on some quilts today - I know you can't believe it, right? I have my fat quarters stored in one of those plastic cabinets with drawers so I went and pulled out all the Christmas ones I had. I found a few that I could use to make a small project - table topper or small wall hanging size. I've put one together and the other is using snowball blocks. I have 32 blocks made - they are only 4 1/2 inches square. So I'm trying to decide if I want to sash them or add a solid fabric block between them. I wanted to use a pretty gold fabric and I have gold fabrics, but just not quite the shade I was looking for. I still might use one that I already have. It's just nice to use this fabric I've had for so many years. Take care everyone!

Phyl, will keep your DSIL in my prayers and hope that this medication is not causing a problem, but helping. Congrats on getting your phone going.....now you can catch up with theWW app.
CJ- good news that you are getting some time in playing with fabric! It sure feels good getting to use fabric that you have had for a long time, Have you decided if this will be a table topper or a wall hanging? Happy for you that you avoided the snow and ice....its a mess up here a few miles north.
Sue!!! Feel better! Drink lots of fluids and rest up. Hoping that this cold goes away quickly.
Ruth, Yes I remember the saying as “slow as molasses in winter”- and yeah, probably a few salty language ones too. I know you like to tough it through a stitch and work your way through it....I do admire that in you . (I give up much easier!). But some stitches or directions are not worth the effort, if they are that poorly written.
Lots of shovelling today. Got more work done on the tree skirt, but I need to rip out a little bit, as the machine stitched funny. Could be I mis threaded it and will have to do one small section over. I miss my machine as I knew how to troubleshoot it.
Ds got home from work safely- despite bad snow. SO thankful.

So much to reply to that Im sure I'll miss some of what I was planning on saying.
Sue, I hope the cold is gone soon.I imagine you have a lot of things that need done and having a bad cold really keeps a person from doing much
Phyl, I'm not familiar with that med. So many new ones have come on the market since I retired but most meds have a long scary list of horrible side effects. On this med most of the really bad ones have occured in only about 4% of patients taking it but if you end up in that group it's not good. some others which are also very serious though occured in about 1/4th or more of patients taking the drug and your sil has already had one side effect that's serious and that is her afib. That being said though if taking that med is your only hope well I might take it in that case.It would be interesting to know what the illness is that she suffers from that necessitates her taking this. Some are more serious than others. For instance CLL is a leukemia that is chronic and most people still live a fairly long life. Others are much more serious and even with this or other meds, there's not much hope
CJ, YES! Glad to hear you're back to crafting! You are very talented and even though I haven't seen your work I just have a feeling that it's beautiful. If you're like me you don't like to show people your work for fear that they may have even a small criticism.
Ginny, I'm so glad that your ds made it home ok. I was praying and now sent a prayer of thanks

Good afternoon, At the moment, babysitting at DD’s. They decided to close schools today and it made more sense to come here. This town got a lot of snow, but ours got quite a bit more. Last night around 8 pm we heard a VERY loud bang- I thought for sure it was a tree falling on our house.. Turns out the neighbor, across the street had a tree completely take down their power lines, and the transformer blew. The noise was the transformer in the process of tripping. We lost power in 2 bedrooms, the laundry room, mud room and kitchen. Thankfully my stove is gas so I can cook stove top using matches to start. And our refrigerator (new last January) is ok- we have it running on a heavy duty extension cord from another room. Thankful we have heat, hot water and all the TV’s/computer equipment. If I lost appliances due to a power surge, it would be the dishwasher, stove, washer and dryer. I put a call into an electrician this morning to check our wiring and the airconditioner.
Anyway, last night Dh went to the neighbor, whose house was dark- to inform them what happened. They are old (88 and 94) and were in bed. He woke them up- they did not seem concerned. I called their son who lives about 10 miles from us and told him what had happened and that his parents had no heat. (I also called the utility). Their son came about 45 minutes later, and I assume took them back to his house.
Called in a claim to the insurance company just to get the process started.- in case we have to replace appliances or wiring. This could have been worse, Just around the corner they have no power at all. Because of all the damage from the storm, I guess we could be like this for a few days. At least we can stay in our home.
Got a text back from the shop owner, her husband fixed the timing on my machine, and is working on getting the feed dogs to engage. Gotta say I miss my machine and do not want to take on a new project like the Bible cover until I have it back. The Husqvarna is ok but seriously not nice enough to justify spending $1200.
Enough babbling from me. See ya later. Ginny

Ginny, I hope your power is on soon and I sure hope none of the appliances are damaged esp that refrigerator you job not even a year ago.
It's much warmer here today. I hope some of this snow melts but it does look like we'll be able to get out of our driveway with our 4 wheel drive. I'm so glad we bought it even though we did have all that trouble and expense to actually getting it running.
I messaged with my friend (daughter of my friend that passed away last year) She's the one that has ovarian cancer. She's taking one of the new highly dangerous drugs but only side effects so far have been extreme fatigue and constant nausea. She mentioned what we talked about yesterday about all the side effects but that since it's either taking that med or dying she'll take a chance on the med. She's only 46.
Speaking of appliances, yesterday I put some of the bacon you can buy precooked (that stuff tastes awful, got it on sale and with a coupon and nver will buy again) and as soon as I pushed the button for the microwave to start it started making a horrible noise and inside was filled with sparking whatever you call that thing that makes the waves...bright intense light. I thought maybe I had accidentally put something metal in there...no I didn't. So took the bacon our of course checked everything. So dh tried heating something else and it worked fine so he tried the bacon again and it did the same thing...flashing lights filled the micro...We've made bacon in there before so I don't know what the deal is. I haven't covered it when I put it in but dh did and that didn't help either. Luckily it didn't damage the micro. It's still working. Of course microwaves aren't that expensive like fridge.
After I finished talking with my friend I started on earwarmers again. I did three yesterday and would have had them all done if dh hadn't woke up when he did. I'll finish them today (the main part) and then will work on sewing them all into the twist and weave in ends. Then I'll be pretty much ready for Christmas except for a couple little joke gifts for dh which I have no idea right now what they will be.

Back home here.
Especially in the treatment of some cancers there are so many new therapies/drugs out there. For the sake of your friends daughter, I truly hope that this new drug can save her life, Given the choice of being tired and nauseous over losing her life, think most would make the same decision. Ruth that is called arcing, which is when the microwave energy bounces off of metal. Makes no sense to me at all why that would happen with that precooked bacon. I have never bought it, and know nothing about it. It does sound as though the microwave is ok, as you have used it without further problems.
Well, our electrician actually called me while we were babysitting at DD’s. Dh drove back home and met him here. It seems as though the transformer (which we know failed yesterday) is now only putting out 110 volt instead of 220 service, therefore explaining why only half my house has power. He checked everything and thought we were safe to be here. Supposedly the utility will restore all service by 11 pm which seems impossible. Its no problem for us, we have heat and hot water, and using two extension cords the refrigerator is working fine and I have a lamp in the kitchen. The only circuit that works in the kitchen has the microwave on it, so we can heat food using the stove top or that. There are many homes just around the corner that have no power at all....we are very blessed. If I have to go another day or two like this its not a big deal. there is a nice challenge about “roughing it” a wee little bit.
Not sure if I will get any sewing done....I checked the machine and it still works. We figure out that everything will work when the power is restored.
Ds is working a double tonight and will be getting home at 12..... hope that he travels safely and the roads are all good for him.
Take care all Ginny

Ginny, hearing that loud noise late at night had to be very frightening. Hopefully they will get everything restored by the promised time and your life can get back to normal. As you said sometimes it's kind of fun to 'rough it" for a short time. and thank you for reminding me what that was called. I couldn't think of arcing.I know I didn't want to eat any of that bacon. I wonder if somehow it got metal shavings in it. This was a new pack from the ones we've used before. This was the first time we bought this...bought several packs...but that will be the last for sure now. If it hadn't been such a good price I would never have got it. If I remember correctly, after the coupon it ended up being free. I remember because the cashier acted like we shouldn't be allowed to get that many packages of it. You would think that some of these cashiers owned the company but I guess they're just trying to do a good job.

Good morning! Phyl- prayers for safe travels as you go visit Don’s sister. Not sure if this trip will involve being gone overnight- but I pray for a good visit and that this medication works well for her, with a minimum of side effects. Its a good thing that you are going, even though you do not feel ready. Just one of those things that sometimes its best to spend the time with family and show your support for them. I also pray that you and Don are blessed by this trip.
Ruth, I would contact the manufacturer of the bacon about the problem. I am thinking that it’s what they sell here, and that precooked bacon is a major national brand- who should know if their product is faulty. Of course they might end up sending you coupons for more, which I doubt you are interested in but they might also send generic coupons for their products in general, which could be useful. Actually I just did an internet search and you are not alone....others have had trouble with Oscar Meyer products arcing. I saw no response from the company however. As I said, if it were me, i would contact the company.
Took a super short walk last night to survey the damage....and my small development is a mess. Think most homes had power, But there are 2,possibly 3 that do not. And our partial power situation. I checked online last night and somehow the utility took our situation off of the list for outages, so I resubmitted it and the neighbor across the street too. I know they are still not there as someone was their last night (thinking it was their son) and they were out there with a flashlight. They probably came back to get more supplies for the elderly couple. I did get a call last night from the utility, after I placed the outage notification online, asking if our problem was resolved. It was a robo call, but at least the first indication that they actually know what is going on. On the local news they said my town was the hardest hit by this storm. As of this morning the utility is saying that we will have power back by 11 pm tonight. I am really not tired of how we are “roughing it”- just tired of wondering if this utility will actually fix the problem
Got some errands to run this afternoon and am helping out with Pioneer girls tonight at church. And Ds did make it home last night....so very thankful for that.
Have a good day all Ginny
