I've been watching Christmas movies since October My TV usually stays on channel 565 - Hallmark Movies & Mysteries... i love it! Me too Jeanie. Though, I usually record them and watch later. I really dislike commercials.

And, sorry, but a lot of the stuff on Hallmark are just romances with a Christmas background. Not really Christmas movies, in my opinion. Let's save the judgement of other people's choices for another time, please. I put that in mostly just to take a shot at Comcast, but you're right. Apologies.

Uh, okay. I thought Patrick Stewart was a little young to play Scrooge, and they've got Guy Pearce?! Hey, I'll give it a shot. It has some phenomenal actors in there, including Pearce. Weirdly, it will be showing in the U.S. before Great Britain. (Dec. 19 on FX)

DotRen,- I'm also looking forward to the new Christmas Carol. I think I've seen almost anyone every made- My mom was a fanatic! I've even seen a 1932 silent edition, a ballet edition, etc. I actually like Patrick Stewart- but then against I just like him overall. I don't know Guy Pearce, but I'm open to seeing it. Didn't realize it was a three parter. May have to DVR it to make sure I see the whole thing

I've already watched "A Christmas Carol" with Alistair Sim and "The Bishop's Wife" with Loretta Young and Cary Grant. I'm all for the classics but I also love the old animated Christmas TV specials (okay, they are classics too!). And of course "It's A Wonderful Life." One of my favorites that is never shown anymore is "Mr. Magoo's Christmas Carol," an animated musical versions of the Dickens story. Luckily I have the DVD.

I also have a CD of him doing a reading of the story, like Dickens used to do, where he plays all the parts. I just thought him a skosh young to play Scrooge in a visual adaptation. He's still, as always, excellent. By the by, Albert Finney was probably the youngest Scrooge, at a mere 34 when he played him.

And of course "It's A Wonderful Life.” This article about Jimmy Hawkins, the child actor who played Tommy Bailey, appeared in The Mercury News this morning. Aside from a bit of biographic info about Hawkins, the article says that the movie has been digitally remastered (mostly) from the original nitrate film and bumped up to 4K resolution and released on Blu-ray; it also includes a new colorized version.

Oh nooooo....HAS to be the old slightly fuzzy black and white version to make me happy! Accompanied by a cup of hot cocoa with marshmallows and a big dollop of butterscotch schnapps! And here is a great list of "A Christmas Carol" films! www.thrillist.com/entertainment/nation/best-a-christmas-carol-movie-adaptations

"Colorization is the devil, Bobby Boucher!" Well I’ve never forgiven Ted Turner for colorizing Shirley Temple. But that’s just me. I wouldn’t mind seeing a high-def version of It’s a Wonderful Life on a screen in a theater. Perhaps Phantom Events will do that some day.

My mother has that CD of him reading. We actually took my mom and MIL )years ago) to see Charles Dickson's great grandson do a 1 man performance of a Christmas Carol. I thought he was just going to read it. But it was a real performance and absolutely amazing. Both mom's loved it. I think the Albert Finny one is the musical where they sing "Thank you very much" when Scrooge dies. My family will launch into that song throughout the year.

TMC is showing the 1938 version (Reginald Owen, Gene Lockhart) Sunday at 11AM. I love that one---I think it is the sweetest of the earlier versions. The Alistair Sim version is quite dark, IMHO. That said, I opted out of Christmas shows this afternoon and instead watched Stephen King's "Misery." So much for my holiday spirit, lol!
