I would also point out that the winners are the elected officials in D.C. who are scheming to take away our insurance, Social Security and Medicare.
They get free, premium health care for life. We get the shaft. I would like a dart board with Paul Ryan's disgusting face on it.

I'm just damn scared & sick to my stomach with worry that no one will step up & get this insane lunatic, his family, his Breitbart & Russian friends out of the Oval Office. I wonder how KAC, Spicer, Huckabee ( whatever her other last name is), Priebus, & others like them can look themselves in the mirror & think it's ok to have sold their souls to the devil. And the way it looks many Republican leaders & others in the party are doing the same. I'm beyond mad & totally scared for this country. SIGH!
Pam...LOVE. Your simple few words in every intro to describe what's what...You nail it every time.
Joyce...hope Dad is back to AL & doing ok & that you are feeling more rested.
Pat....hand me a dart...:-)
Think HEALTHY & HOPE there is a sane person out there to take charge of the mess in the Oval Office!

Good morning! On my personal front, my dad did get released from the hospital yesterday, so hopeful we can establish some normalcy again until the next roller coaster dip. He is weak, but overall I think doing as well as I can hope. My mom is doing as well as I can expect too I think. She made it through this better than expected, but she sundowns pretty much each evening. Some days she's pretty much "got it together" until late in the day, others not so much. But that's just the way it is going to be until it goes even further downhill. I read a very scary statistic this morning, "Every 66 seconds this year, an American will develop Alzheimer's disease, according to the Alzheimer's Association annual report, released Tuesday. By the year 2050, that number is expected to double to one every 33 seconds. That means, says the report, that by the middle of the century, over half of all Americans 65 and older will have Alzheimer's." Yet, we are doing very little to try and understand, treat, and prevent this horrible disease. I know it's too late for any research to help my mom or Linda's mom, but it is far past time that we need to get serious about this. We can put a man on the moon, we can cure some cancers, there is no reason that if we put effort and funding into research we can not eradicate Alzheimer's. So instead of increasing an already bloated military budget, building a totally useless wall, sending Tweety to play golf in Florida every weekend, we need to redirect that money towards funding this vital research, IMHO. But, it will never happen until we as a people stand up and demand it. As for the fiasco that is the White House, it just becomes more ludicrous every single day. When will Republicans actually grow a backbone, put the good of the country above their personal partisan politics, and do something about the lunatic we have allowed to take control? Does the entire country have to go spiraling down in flames first? I heard a commentator last night saying that he predicts within the next two years Bannon will be out. TWO YEARS? ? What will be left by that time?

I totally agree!
Linda, the only way you can sell your soul is if you have one. Look at Ryan's eyes, or any of the other cowards, what do you see? Darkness or insincerity? Nothing? It's been said our eyes are the window to our souls. So, if there's nothing there...

Joyce, I hope you get some rest. I also wonder why Alzheimer's remains such a mystery. It seems to be more and more prevalent. Nowadays every one knows at least one family struggling with the disease.

So, it's going to be "RyanCare"... And I hope this name sticks!...Kicking Medicaid back to the states will be a sad state of affairs for special needs, elderly, & the low income is going to be a disaster.

I have really serious concerns about what is to become of both Medicare and Medicaid. If Ryan has his way, both will be extinct. He's been pushing for that for a very long time. A lot of people in need really depend upon Medicaid, and for many, many seniors facing long term nursing home care, it is an absolute necessity. Most of us have heard this kind of care is very expensive, but until I had to start searching for care for my parents the term "very expensive" didn't hold a lot of meaning for me. Now I know it is VERY expensive! My parents are more fortunate than many. They worked hard all their lives although never made a lot of money. They did save very frugally, and right now are able to pay their own way but that won't last. Who knows how long they will be needing care? My family's situation is far better than a lot of people's. Care for seniors is very serious, and our country seems to not be paying any attention to it. We enable people to live longer, but we don't provide for that life. No one of my parents' generation can possibly have saved enough money for long term care unless they don't actually have a very long life. So all these right to lifers, what about the elderly, the sick, the frail, the poor, the helpless? Does life only count if it hasn't been born yet?

I think ND and Kansas have the highest Nursing Home care in the nation. My mom was in the Alzheimers unit here & other than her Alzheimers, she was very healthy physically. Her bill each month was rising to almost $8000 & more a month. This was about 3 years ago. Because she was self pay, that figured into her high price . Basically getting charged for those on Medicaid to make up for the caps on Medicaid pay. She too was frugal, has NH insurance, retirement pension & SS to cover her bill, plus her savings. As the bill constantly kept rising for the same amount of care here, we decided to move mom to a NH in Montana, close to my sister. A much smaller NH, but with very good quality care. Her bill went down, overall, $36,000 a year. This is such a dilemma for so many elderly. Very few can count on the quality care given by their children, like Joyce has done for parents out of the goodness of her heart. No reimbursement for caregivers of the elderly or adult special needs kids. It really is such a shame we treat our elders this way. The worry of it all for them after working hard their entire lives is heartbreaking. We were lucky to find a cheaper, quality care home for mom, & I plan on caring for Jason as long as we can, but I shudder to think of the sub standard care so many elderly & special needs receive because they are dependent on capped Medicaid because they just don't have the means for self pay.

Janice...worth repeating....thx so much!
I have tried to restrain from posting politics on facebook, but my cousin posted this, and I think it's worth thinking about no matter what you believe: In case anyone got overly sidetracked by the Russian spy drama, the following bills HAVE been introduced: 1. HR 861 Terminate the Environmental Protection Agency 2. HR 610 Vouchers for Public Education 3. HR 899 Terminate the Department of Education 4. HJR 69 Repeal Rule Protecting Wildlife 5. HR 370 Repeal Affordable Care Act 6. HR 354 Defund Planned Parenthood 7. HR 785 National Right to Work (this one ends unions) 8. HR 83 Mobilizing Against Sanctuary Cities Bill 9. HR 147 Criminalizing Abortion (“Prenatal Nondiscrimination Act”) 10. HR 808 Sanctions against Iran Please copy/paste and share widely. Call your House Representative and ask them to not only vote "NO"...but to speak up for our rights, health & safety, and our beautiful country. Makes me think a lot about my values.

Yay for Anne's grandson! Enjoy his visit. My DGKs will be here next week Sun-Mon as well while they are on spring break and DD and DSIL are working.
Linda, I may have to move to Montana. When I looked at NH care here it is more than $8,000 per month which would make it over $16,000/mo for both my parents, plus the odds are they would not be able to be together and that is not for a private room but a room shared with another person, and a bathroom sometimes shared with 4 others at the NH. AL is expensive, but much less than NH. And with both NH and AL, the patient is still responsible for the cost of their medicines which in my dad's case is a LOT. I think most people don't have a clue about the actual cost. I didn't until I was forced to learn, and I was told by both to expect that costs will go up at least 3-5% each year. I don't want to sound like a broken record, but it really is a serious situation that is getting more serious as our population gets older. Yet neither political party ever talks about it.
Had to really laugh out loud at the photo of Tweety greeting visitors to the WH, and where does he stop, right in front of the big portrait of Hillary. He just can't get it right no matter what. If it's not his Tweets making him look ridiculous, then like a clumsy oaf he will still manage to find a way to step all over his own moment.
DH is going out of town tomorrow on rental business, and I'm going to take the opportunity to go along for the ride. Have a change of scenery for the day.
